I am still working at staying active and healthy. I have only one New Year Resolution - track my food and exercise. I hoping with tracking I will see patterns that I may need to change. Last year I did this with my money and realized how much I was wasting and I changed my behaviors and I am hoping for the same with my nutrition. Then will see what happens with weight, flexibility and strength. But the goal is just to track. I have a journal in case... I was especially pleased that what I served for lunch - gazpacho - was made from my garden veggies- tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers ! Even the tomato juice soup base was from my tomatoes! It tasted so great. Another friend brought a salad and then I baked some breadsticks to round out the meal. Dessert was rhubarb sorbet and I used my own rhubarb! It was an organic home grown meal. My Father in law died so that was unexpected - heart attack. My Mother in law took it okay (they were divorced) but she is not always taking her medications correctly which leads to confusion and a recent hospitalization. Things are improving slowiy but there are still some struggles to go through. <BR> <BR> My 92 year old mother is beginning a slow decline -- I can see it more now. She still has life left but it is hard to see her become more de... Thu, 4 Jul 2013 10:19:41 EST 5/18/13 knee pain - dang This last week I tried to be more active and get back into a routine of exercise. I did water aerobics twice and 1 round of circuit with some bike riding and elliptical training (15 min each). So I only exercised 3 times at the gym. I did one round of yoga too. I was on my feet more though as I did some extra volunteer work. <BR> <BR> So all was well until last night - knee pain. I was in the play A Flea in Her Ear.... during which I gained some weight and really felt it in my right knee. Also was so very very fatigued. The community theatre play is done and I LOVED my part, but it is a lot of work too. I know more calories but the handicapped restroom is so much easier for Mom with her wheelchair. So we visited after the dinner at the rest home. Mon, 26 Nov 2012 14:21:56 EST 10/25/12 Arthritis commercial was motivation I have been saying I need to get moving again and this morning I saw some good motivation. It was a commercial put out by the Arthritis Foundation. The ad showed a very overweight man dancing - he was quite good and really had some fun moves. Then the words came "For every pound you lose, you take 4 pounds of pressure off your knees." <BR> <BR> That was it!! My knees have been killing me so I have used that and the gym canceling a class I liked to do less work!! Therefore gained 4 pounds... Fri, 5 Oct 2012 19:59:12 EST 10/4/12 Mammogramo and making props Today was the old mammogramo and all went well with that. The specialist or technician whatever she is called is so very very nice. She keeps me laughing! <BR> <BR> After that I stopped at several stores, arts & crafts, fabric and then fly fishing - looking for a chicken pelt. I need to use the chicken pelt as a prop in the play - we are going to make a realistic chicken that gets swung around during the performance. We slip the pelt over a rubber chicken and sew it up! Felt good to get back to a routine of exercise. Years back when I was in college I walked everywhere as I could not afford a car. BOY WAS I THIN!!! This is the first time my husband has ever gotten one, and it is because I convinced him that with his Mom's health he should not take the chance of passing anything to her!! His mom also got her shot so now that chore is almost taken care of. <BR> <BR> I still have to take my mom in for her shot and then we are done. Thu, 23 Aug 2012 11:45:37 EST 8/20/12 31 flights of stairs I used my fitbit to as I walked my 3 miles around the park. The park's path is a .6 mile loop so 5 laps is 3 miles. We live in a hilly little town and the park reflects that - but I was surprised to see that my fitbit said I had climbed 31 flights of stairs as I finished my walk!! It's not just my imagination that the last lap is a bun buster! She is pregnant and they needed help. while they waited we had a nice conversation about having kids - the differences between boys and girls - just congenial conversation. They got a good sized amount of food and then asked for directions to the pregnancy care service. I gave them directions and out the door they went. (At the Pregnancy care services they can get more help so the woman has a healthy pregnancy). <BR>... I had previously paticipated in a workshop on tai chi. The instructor also had each of us try some mind body exercises that seemed simple but were challenging. It is 32 laps (down and back) to a mile. I used my glasses on the bricks to count the laps. I would do 4 laps of one stroke and then switch to another for 4 laps. <BR> <BR> I did pretty well. Had a nice visit with Mom and she did her bicycling pedaling - she did 100 pedals. A new record for Mom!! Mon, 28 May 2012 15:30:16 EST 5/27/12 The garden wall My husband has been putting in a new raised garden spot for me made with retaining wall bricks the big heavy ones. I have mentioned it on a few of my spark team messages and huddles. I have tried to be a good helper by moving bricks into the yard for him and some other as needed jobs.
