The official times are not out yet but when I crossed the line the clock said 59:19, so it'll be something around that. I'm pretty pleased with that, for a first one. I know I can go faster next time.

The run was on Borth beach, so a bit different to my usual road running. It was at low tide, so the sand was pretty firm, wet sand, not horrible shifting dry sand. It was nice and flat, too.

My friend I went with was faster than me, sh... Sun, 5 Aug 2012 19:46:55 EST Best run so far http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4971261 Today my friend and I ran 7.5 miles at an average pace of 6mph. I'm really pleased with that, especially since I had to walk up a big hill, so the actual running pace must have been faster than 6mph. Next challenge will be running up that hill, but hills make my hip twinge a bit. I've started taking a tablet that's meant to help joints though, so hopefully that will improve things. Sun, 15 Jul 2012 13:01:26 EST Running V http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4955311 Today I ran my second 6+ mile run this week. We stopped a couple of times for breathers, but not for long, 30 seconds to 1 minute. There was one big hill I had to walk up, but that was partially because it's right at the end of the run, and my hip was aching, and rather than over-exert it I walked. We usually manage an 11.5 minute mile pace, even with the walk up the hill.

I've also cycled to work every day so far this week. I'm dithering about buying a road bike (my current one ... Wed, 4 Jul 2012 16:07:07 EST Running IV http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4923554 Tonight I ran 3 miles in one go. A month ago I would have thought it was pretty nearly impossible.

It might not have been the fastest of jogging, but it was substantially faster than walking, but allowed me to breathe comfortably, so I'm going to count it as a success. Tue, 12 Jun 2012 15:47:06 EST Running III http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4913483 Today I jogged 1.85 miles in one go! I am really pleased with myself. Not sure how pleased my legs will be in the morning though.

In my last blog a week ago I said I wanted to be able to do one mile by the end of June, I have beat that already.

My total route was 3.4 miles and I actually jogged most of it, just the first few periods of jogging were interspersed with walking.

I still jog fairly slowly, about 5mph which some people probably won't class as pro... Tue, 5 Jun 2012 16:07:51 EST Running II http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4904623 Went for another run tonight. I updated my phone app so it would interrupt my music and tell me some stats as I went.

My average pace was 4.6mph, which isn't bad, considering I half run and half walk. When I was running my average pace was just over 6mph, which is pretty good, I think. I also managed a whole half mile of running, which is the furthest I've managed, so I'm pretty pleased with that, too. I hope I'll be able to run a whole mile in one go by the end of June. Wed, 30 May 2012 16:11:45 EST Starting to run http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4901422 I always hated running when I was younger. Now I want something to complement my cycling, to improve my cardio and to work different muscles. Especially since cycling doesn't do much for the stomach muscles.

I went to a town 2 hours away which was the nearest place with a proper running shop, to get assessed for the type of shoe I'd need, since I have had foot problems and over-pronate.

I have been for two runs (or rather walk/jog combos) since having the new shoes and... Mon, 28 May 2012 15:25:02 EST Back on track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4867628 After two weeks of being rather poorly and breaking my low-carb diet (though staying within my calorie allowances) I am feeling much better, and trying to get back on track with the low-sugar.

I went for a nice 6 mile hike with some friends this morning, and tomorrow I think I'll get on my bike. Sat, 5 May 2012 12:27:54 EST Taming my sweet tooth. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4853637 For the last 4 weeks I have been doing the "tame your sweet tooth" challenge. I decided that when I started it would be a good time to start trying a low-carb diet. It went very well. In fact I hve a bar of lindt chocolate in my house right now that I bought after a day of cycling and hiking as a treat, and I have only eaten 3 squares. Previously it would have been eaten on the journey home from the shop.

I find that I don't crave sugary things any more. It is good in two ways, it... Thu, 26 Apr 2012 16:20:53 EST
