I started out small with 10-15 minutes a day. Since then I have completed four sprint triathlons. I also did my fastest 5K run/walk last month in just 40 minutes. This time is a huge improvement over my average of 62 minutes two years ago. Many small improvements.

However, despite the hard work I still qualify as obese although no longer morbidly obese. I can see being "overweight" in my near future as I... Tue, 10 May 2016 22:27:13 EST First Triathlon of 2016 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6148935 Today I did my first triathlon of 2016. It was spur of the moment. I received an mail a week ago encouraging last minute registrations and I said "why not." I have not been training like I should be have been to do a triathlon. I haven't been in a swimming pool in 6 weeks. I did well despite that. I did m fastest 5k run/walk ever! I usually average 50-55 minutes for a 5 k. Today I did it in 40 minutes, 38 seconds. 40 334 . I was very shocked when I got my time... Sat, 23 Apr 2016 23:23:39 EST Crazy Workout Pants-OH MY! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6142850 As a present for breaking through a weight los plateau I bought some crazy workout pants. I have never owned crazy workout pants for two reasons. One being able to buy them in an appropriate size 101 24 234 . It is very frustrating to have to buy workout gear two sizes larger than other clothing. I am sure that other people have felt this as well. The second reason is that I always considered myself to fat and unfit to even consider getting into the sk... Today is day #446 in a row.

This year I set a new goal. To get at least 10,000 steps a day for 2016. I have succeeded in taking at least 10,000 steps a day for 90 days in a row and even have one day with 20,000 steps. I haven't done that many steps since my half marathon in January 2015.

To think I started this process with walking 10-15 minutes a day. It use... Thu, 17 Mar 2016 11:31:16 EST 20,000 Step in One Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6105925 On Thursday I recieved bad health news. While I'm not ready to share that news with my spark friends I realized I could go one of two ways after the news. I could push towards to successfully completing my Olympic length triathlon on May 8th or I could use it as an excuse to give up and get a refund of my registration. I admit that I gave some serious thought to using the diagnosis as an excuse to give up, because I'm still significantly slower than I want to be for the triathlon distances... Sat, 27 Feb 2016 08:48:25 EST Mindful Eating is SOOOOO HARD! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6079058 This week in the 5% weight loss challenge, we are supposed to focus and spend at least 20 minutes to eat a meal. I hadn't realized how often I plow through my meal in 10 minutes or less. I don't slow down to savor and often eat while doing other things. Some of it is to many years being a nurse and grabbing food on the run. The rest is the normal rush rush rush that most people push themselves too.

I find myself actually looking at my plate before it is empty wondering do I rea... Mon, 25 Jan 2016 19:24:54 EST 365 days of Exercise in a Row! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6053572 Today I hit a major milestone. I have completed 365 days of exercising every day. I started with 10-15 minutes every day. Now most days are at last 30-45 minutes and I don't even count anything less than 20 minutes a day.

I have three new goals. One is to exercise everyday for two years or 730 days and to get at least 10,000 steps a day for one year. I am only 11 days into 10,000 steps a day. My previous streak was broken when I caught a GI bug. I still walked 20 minutes e... On December 28, I will be a whole year of exercising every day. I cannot wait to meet that goal.

Now for the sad day #1. Today I have gone back to strict meal tracking. Nothing is off limits, but I have committed to tracking everything that goes into my mouth for the next week. I am going to start with just one week. With strict tracking I lose weight. But I admit it makes me sad. I would like to be at the point whe... Sun, 8 Nov 2015 19:05:30 EST Two goals Busted!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6021037 Today I broke through and surpassed two goals. First today was #302 of exercising every day. My old record was 301 days. The next goal is 365 so that I have a full year of every day.

The second is that I participate in Day of the Tread today. These events occur all over the country and my local one has distance options from 12 miles to 100 miles. Today I bicycled 26 miles with only a brief stop to strip out of layers when I got too warm. It took me 2 hours, 2 minutes and 58 s... You don't think you will ever be able to do it. You have a co-worker who first put the idea in you head a couple of years ago by saying. " it's just a sprint. You really don't even have to train, I just went out and did it." Well I wasn't quite that foolish but yesterday I "SURVIVED" my first sprint triathlon. I really do mean survived not thrived or did well.
A little background. In December I decided I was going to get into be... Sun, 14 Jun 2015 10:22:40 EST 19.3 miles and 15 pounds http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5919929 I completed two big milestones today. First I did my first ever spin class. If you have never tried one it is usually full of skinny little people who make all of the up and down look easy. Believe me, it isn't. Sweat runnng down my nose and right off the end. But I Did IT!!!! Now the 15 pounds comes in. I have lost 15 pounds in the last 60 days and for the first time in more than 10 years I am solidly under the 250 pound mark. Now I have another 40-50 pounds to a good place for me. W... This is a big step for me. I can do the 5k at a fast walk and will work on some niter al training to improve my time but I have to work on my bicycle. Today I rode just under two miles and had to fight my asthma when I returned home.

I am open to advice to anyone who has gone from inactivity to participating in a triathlon.

Most people I talk with have trouble with the swim and for me it is the bicycle.... Mon, 19 Jan 2015 19:43:00 EST Two miles in 35 minutes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5846113 Today I did my first interval training outside instead of just on a treadmill. I am very proud of myself. I walked with a few short bouts of jogging just over two miles in 35 minutes. This walk usually takes me about 40 minutes. This is a big improvement in my time. I am not setting any specific weight loss by a specific time type goals. It is time to try something different. This year I am setting a health goal. I have watched several of my fellow sparkers go from little or no activity to competing in a triatholon.

I can do a 5k walk and the 400 meter swim required of the triathlon but right now I can't do the bicycle.

So my goal for the next 118 days is to get rea... On July 2, my very good friend Nathan passed away. He was only 31 years old. I am forcibly reminded how unfair life can be. My friend was far from perfect but he had a very rare quality. He loved me unconditionally. It didn't matter to him that I am far far from perfect I am. I know that he is in a better place because God wouldn't dare to keep him out of heave... Sat, 5 Jul 2014 10:45:43 EST 5k in 70 minutes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5680644 Tonight I did a practice walk. I was only planning on two miles but once I got moving I decided to see how long it would take to complete a 5k. Well it took me 70 minutes at a comfortable pace where I could still converse with my walking mate. So I didn't break any speed records, but after stretching at the end other than my feet being a little sore, I feel very good about it. One tiny step toward the mini triathlon I am working towards in August. It is the 10k bike ride that is going to... Sun, 23 Sep 2012 22:41:20 EST What Have I DONE?!?!?!?!? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5039493 Today, I drug myself (kicking and screaming on the inside) sooooo far outside of my comfort zone that I am going to have to completely redefine that zone. Some days are only about 15 minutes and others are more like 55 but I am moving again. When I first lost weight I was moving almost every day and tracking my diet. It is time to go back to basics and other than the fact that I will have wedding cake tomorrow (I also pl... Fri, 29 Jun 2012 10:14:44 EST Day Shift. However, my body can no longer take the strain of rotating between night shift for work and day shift for the rest of my life. I haven't slept well in a very long time. I am well aware that there are many studies that tie the lack of sleep to weight gain and depression. So I get to ... Wed, 6 Jun 2012 07:33:03 EST
