I'm very excited, but getting out the door is always a challenge. I am kinda freaky about having the house in order before we leave. It will be about a 7 hour drive today. We will pick up our daughter tomorrow in Seattle and head to the lake, about 2 hours from there. The weather is supposed to be nice, so I'm thankful for that. I have lots of healthy (and some not-so-healthy) snacks packed. I'm hoping I can talk my boys... So here's how I did in March:

March 1 Weigh-In: 165.4 lb
April 1 Weigh-In: 162.4 lb
So, down 3 lbs for the month!
I also lost a 3/4" from chest and 1/2" from waist.

My goals for the month were:

1. I met my friend for coffee this morning and now I'm back home catching up on my computer life. My hubby will be home early and we are going to take a LONG walk on one of our favorite routes (about 6 miles). The weather is so beautiful~blossoms are out on the trees and the daffodils are popping up their yellow heads of sunshine all over people's yards. I LOVE spring!

What is you... Wed, 19 Mar 2014 12:20:39 EST Checking in... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5649756 I did ok this past week, but it's time for a serious push. I haven't tracked the past several days. I'm not sure why I'm not consistent with the tracking since it really keeps me accountable. I guess that's why I don't do it~I don't want to see how many calories a particular treat adds. My exercise has been sporadic, but not non-existent. I am not seeing the scale move when I am consistent and I get frustrated and get rebellious. I KNOW I just have to keep making my healthy choices and the re... Mon, 17 Mar 2014 09:27:47 EST Update after a hectic week... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5602060 Last Tuesday, I flew up to Portland to help my brother after surgery. I was supposed to fly home on Sat afternoon, but the plane could not land due to the fog. They sent us back to Portland and I tried again for a flight the next morning and the same thing happened. My hubby and son were on a snowboarding trip, so I flew to a little town close to where they were and they drove about 40 min out of the way to pick me up and we all drove home together. Whew!

We got home Sun night and... Wed, 22 Jan 2014 08:44:58 EST Super Saturday :) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5590308 I love weekends! Hubby is home and it gives us time to catch up from the week. We got up early today and watched a movie on Netflix while drinking our coffee. We had a yummy, healthy omelet that we shared, then went for a walk/jog 5K. I think we should have exercised before breakfast, but it was raining and had stopped by the time we finished eating. We are quite a sight with our headphones on a splitter and waving our arms to the music.
<img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeople.com/nw/9/0... Sat, 11 Jan 2014 13:36:01 EST Moving Forward After Yesterday... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5589205 Yesterday was the first day that I didn't track due to some out of control eating :(
I had a healthy breakfast and lunch which was great. Then I saw some cookies in the freezer that just called my name. I had baked them during the holidays and meant to send them home with my daughter or to the office with hubby, but never did. So, I ate some...not even sure how many which is sad to admit. Then hubby called and said he thought we should meet for a movie date which I thought was a great i... Fri, 10 Jan 2014 12:36:31 EST It's Monday... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5584921 Saturday was busy, but good. We ran a few errands~groceries, returns from Christmas, library and dropped off donation to Salvation Army. In the evening, we went to our neighbor's for their annual holiday open house. She always has amazing food, but I had determined to just visit with people and not eat anything since it seems that once I start, I can't stop. I was able to resist and drank a protein smoothie when I got home.

Yesterday, we went to church early. We usually go out for ... Mon, 6 Jan 2014 21:22:35 EST Blogging More http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5580744 I am going to try to blog a little more this year. I try to check in with my book club team daily, so I will likely re-post that in my blog. It will become a journal of sorts to keep track of what I'm doing, progress I'm making as well as the struggles I'm having. It won't be too personal or deep as I have a writing journal I keep for my innermost thoughts/feelings. So, this blog will mostly be for me, but if my spark friends read it, I hope they will give me ideas and feedback when appropria... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 12:34:56 EST January Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5578239 I kind of went off the rails toward the end of the year, so it's time to get back to basics this month and focus on healthy habits. Here are my goals for the month:

1. Complete Book Club monthly challenge
2. 30 minutes exercise daily
3. 5,000 steps daily
4. Track food/stay in calorie range
5. It also helps me re-focus for the next year. 2013 was a good year in so many ways, but we also had some bumps in the road which caused a lot of emotional stress. God is faithful and although I didn't meet all of my goals, I am thankful for the strength I was given to accomplish quite a few of them. Here's the recap:

2013 Goals:
1. Get to goal weight ~ NO!... Wed, 1 Jan 2014 10:31:08 EST Almost the New Year... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5574880 Our daughter flew home to Seattle yesterday and it's down to just the 2 of us~so quiet! It has been very foggy in our valley, so we drove about 30 min south to the local ski mountain (which has no snow on it so far) and took a 1 hour hike in the sunshine. It was nice to be in the fresh air and the view was amazing! Even though we enjoyed the hike, we are praying for snow soon as it will make for a miserable summer without some snow pack in the mountains to fill the lakes/rivers around here. <... Sun, 29 Dec 2013 18:17:34 EST Check in for Friday and Saturday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5543030 I didn't get a workout done on Friday. I don't usually work on Fridays, but I went in extra to help and then had a hair appt in the afternoon. I got distracted by the computer and a couple chores and before I knew it, I had used up the whole morning and it was time to go. I thought I might get a workout in after I got home, but it was late afternoon and hubby and I had plans to meet his parents for early dinner.
That brings me to part 2 of my goals for Friday~I tracked everything except... I tried the SP Cardio Blast 80's Aerobics workout. It was just 20 minutes with the warm up and cool down, but I still got my heart rate up. Then I did one of my short yoga dvd's.

I went to the dentist today, then to work just for a few hours. Made another new recipe for dinner~Chicken Spaghetti Bake~very yummy! Hubby went to the golf course and invited me to go, but it was just too cold for me. I wish I would have because I j... Fri, 15 Nov 2013 00:45:11 EST Wednesday Check In http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5540611 I didn't have to work today, but I had to be home in the morning waiting for the Sears repairman to come to fix my washing machine. I got my workout done, showered and then spent time catching up on emails and SP.

I usually struggle with eating when I'm not hungry on days I'm home, but today I kept myself busy and just didn't go to the frig or cupboard. I made a new recipe for dinner~Butternut Squash & Spinach Lasagna Rolls~and they were pretty tasty. While I was cooking, I had a s... Wed, 13 Nov 2013 23:03:49 EST Tuesday Check In http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5539731 I am sticking to my plan for the most part. I put my workout clothes on first thing and then down for coffee/quiet time and computer time. Hubby went back to work today, so when he went up to get ready, I put in my workout DVD and got moving. I was a little sore from yesterday, but only did cardio today, no weights.

I thought about walking to work, but it was raining and I'm just too wimpy to venture out in the cold (hence, the workout DVD's). Unfortunately, it was super busy at w... Then I had my coffee/quiet time and a little computer time. I had my workout DVD all ready to go last night and told myself I had to start my workout no later than 7. My hubby stayed home sick today, so I knew he would be a distraction, but I made myself go into the other room and do my workout. It was kind of tough, but I pushed through it~only 27... Mon, 11 Nov 2013 23:53:52 EST My Plan For The Week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5537806 I have not been motivated lately and it is taking its toll~on the scale and in how I feel. It's time to get out of denial and realize that I have to make healthy choices every day or I will end up where I started and never get to my goal. With that in mind, I finally planned a menu for the week and went grocery shopping. I spent quite a bit of time prepping veggies and have dinner ready to go for tomorrow. I have decided that I am going to try to blog a little more to keep myself accountable.... Our fight arrived just before 9 AM, we picked up our luggage and took a shuttle to the rental car building. Everything went smoothly and we were excited to drive to Disneyland for the day and then to our final destination, Huntington Beach. It was while we were at Disneyland, we found out about a tragic shooting at LAX that occurred around 9:30 AM. The worst thing is one person was killed and 6 injured. The trage... Sat, 2 Nov 2013 09:06:52 EST September Goals Recap http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5502543 I never posted my goals for September, but I did make them. I kept them simple because I knew I was in a struggling mode. I didn't do too well, but I am not giving up!

My goals:
1. Workout 10 min/day~Well, I only worked out 17/30 days, so did not meet this goal. My fitness minutes for the month were 785.

2. Book Club Challenge~I have never not completed a challenge before and I could go back and fill in the final week + 2 days, but I did so poorly that it's not wort... Wed, 2 Oct 2013 13:50:12 EST This Week... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5480363 I am challenging myself to no sugary sweets~not even the low-cal variety. For dessert, I will have a piece of fruit or a smoothie. I have been craving and giving into the cravings for sweets and it's taking a toll on the scale. It's time to be strong and have some self-control in this area.

On a positive note, I have 7 days of consistent exercise under my belt! I am excited to be making this a daily habit again. 104

Here's to a great week! Mon, 9 Sep 2013 09:34:13 EST July Goals~Recap http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5442280 July was just an ok month. I am not going to move on from these goals until I can push myself a little harder to achieve them. Here's how I did:

1. Complete Book Club monthly challenge and get at least 500/775 points~YES! I got 520 pts!

2. 900 fitness minutes~NO. Only 790 minutes, but better than last month :)

3. Fri, 2 Aug 2013 12:32:55 EST It's Friday! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5426452 WooHoo! So glad it's Friday!

I didn't work yesterday, but had to make a last minute road trip to Portland to meet my daughter at the DMV as she lost her license and I have her birth certificate here at home. It was 4 1/2 hours each way. I had packed healthy snacks for the road, but ended up buying candy when I stopped for gas~oh well.

We are very short staffed at work right now, so I am going to go in after lunch for a few hours just to help out. So, this morning is "m... Fri, 19 Jul 2013 12:51:34 EST July Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5411392 I like posting my goals so I can look back and have a record of this journey. I've never really been a goal-setter and I'm not sure it actually motivates me to push myself harder, but I do like keeping track to use it for evaluating my progress toward my healthy lifestyle. Even though this is a few days late, here are my goals for July:

1. Complete Book Club monthly challenge and get at least 500/775 points
2. 900 fitness minutes
3. Finish 2 books
4. At least 5,000 s... Fri, 5 Jul 2013 10:21:07 EST June Goals~Recap http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5411385 June was not the greatest month. I was struggling with motivation and really didn't push myself to achieve my goals. About halfway through the month, I decided to try the 2-week plan in the Spark Solution book. A new Spark Solution challenge started on the 24th and things started to get a little better. Here is how I did on my goals:

1. Complete Book Club Challenge~Yes, but did not score too many points.
2. Track Every Day~No. I only tracked 14/30 days
3. 900 Fitness Minu... Fri, 5 Jul 2013 10:15:14 EST Spark Solution Challenge Days 9 & 10 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5410722 Day 9 went well. I substituted the breakfast from day 8 because I liked it so much and it sustained me until lunchtime. Lunch was the philly cheesesteak and it was very good. I couldn't fit all of it in the pita, so I just ate it out of the container. Dinner was Speedy Turkey Chili and I had decided to put it in the crockpot before work so it would be ready when I got home. When I got home I was surprised the house wasn't filled with the aroma of spicy chili. I checked the crockpot and realiz... Thu, 4 Jul 2013 14:42:47 EST Spark Solution Day 8 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5409101 Yesterday was Day 8. It was also Monday and I did my official weigh-in. I lost 3.4 lbs! I am very happy with the results of following the Spark Solution plan, but what I really like is how I feel. I am seriously not having cravings for sweets and I have rarely felt hungry between meals. Except for a few substitutions, I have followed the book closely for meals. One big change for me is all the milk I am drinking. They have you drink at least 1 cup of skim milk every day and sometimes 2. I don... Tue, 2 Jul 2013 23:01:15 EST Spark Solution Challenge Days 6 & 7 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5408059 Days 6 & 7 fell on the weekend. I wanted so badly to stick to the plan as written, but I had to adapt according to the plans we had.

First, Saturday's breakfast was supposed to be a healthy version of biscuits and gravy. I planned to make it and give it a try, but I don't even like "real" biscuits and gravy and just couldn't bring myself to make it. We had the bacon swiss scramble from day one instead. My hubby really wanted me to go fishing with him for the morning, so we spent t... Tue, 2 Jul 2013 00:33:54 EST Spark Solution Challenge Day 5 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5405752 Day 5 went pretty well. We both really liked the Mexican Breakfast Burrito! I was so excited to use the black beans I canned myself last week. Lunch was supposed to be Better BLT sandwich, but since I was at work, I made it into a salad and ate the sandwich thin on the side. I spent quite a bit of time in the morning prepping lunch and it was just ok, not great. I did like that I got to have 2 dark chocolate Hersey kisses! The snack listed was to be light beer~um, not really the best thing to... Sat, 29 Jun 2013 20:17:02 EST Spark Solution Challenge Days 3 & 4 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5404399 Day 3 was a day off work for me and I usually struggle a little more because things aren't all packed and ready~I have to open the refrigerator or cupboard and see other choices, but because I had the Spark Solution plan to follow, it went really well. The spinach feta wrap for breakfast kept me satisfied until lunchtime. I made the Caesar salad for lunch and it was ok, but the dressing was a little too tart for me. We loved the Inside-Out Burgers which was a little surprising as neither of u... Fri, 28 Jun 2013 09:17:38 EST Spark Solution Challenge Day 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5402717 Day 2 went well. The oatmeal for breakfast made a HUGE bowl~way more than my normal serving! Unfortunately, oatmeal never sticks with me like they say it should. I'm usually hungry mid-morning and the same thing happened yesterday. I held off until lunch at 12:30. The lunch was really good~I wasn't sure about curry tuna with craisins, but the combo worked. I had cooked the chicken enchiladas on Sun, so when I got home from work, all I had to do was heat them up. They were very good and fillin... Wed, 26 Jun 2013 17:55:55 EST Wednesday To Do: http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5402433 I am working extra days this week, so today is my only day off until the weekend. I have things I need to get done, but it's rainy out and all I want to do is snuggle up on the couch with a cup of tea and my book! I decided to post my to-do list to keep me accountable:

1. Laundry
2. Clean master bathroom
3. Pay bills/clean off desk
4. Iron
5. Cook ahead for Thurs/Fri dinners
6. Walk/Jog 30 min
7. Yoga DVD
8. Read 30 min

I have so... Wed, 26 Jun 2013 12:44:49 EST Spark Solution Challenge Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5401113 I decided to try the 2-Week Spark Solution Challenge because I have been lacking motivation and struggling to get the 10 lbs off that I have gained since October. I have never been able to stick to a "program" or follow a book in its entirety, but since this is just 2 weeks, I am going to go all in and see how it goes.

The Spark Solution requires a ton of planning~the menu plan covers 3 meals a day plus 2 snacks. It was a BIG shopping trip! I already have a lot of the pantry items... I decided to put them in a blog so I can have a record of how I was feeling during this time. I am truly lacking motivation!

Friday June 14, 2013

First the positives:
1. I got to have coffee this morning with my bff~so needed!
2. I started the 5K Your Way again (25 min of 4 min walk/1 min jog).
3. I had my mammogram today.

Now the negatives:
1. I am not motivated about my diet right... Sun, 16 Jun 2013 09:42:47 EST My Week So Far... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5380254 My goal this month is to blog weekly. I don't really have a plan for what day, but I just want to keep myself accountable. I started out really strong this week, but had a struggle yesterday. I had leftover pizza for lunch and then baked cookies to take up to my daughter this weekend which proved to be way too tempting. I didn't eat a "real" dinner~just leftover pulled pork (no bun) and no veggies or anything. My stomach is not very happy with me today and I realize how much better I feel whe... Thu, 6 Jun 2013 11:21:05 EST Wake up call~June Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5374820 Got a major wake-up call from the scale this morning! I never set specific goals for May and although I got over 900 fitness minutes in, I basically gave up tracking/good food choices and it showed up on the scale. I know the scale isn't the only tool to determine success, but I know I have been sabotaging myself and justifying some poor choices and it has got to stop NOW! So, I am setting goals for this month and I am going to push myself to reach them. There really are no excuses~either I d... I didn't plant as much this year because we had way more than we could eat/share last year. I also planted snap peas and a small herb garden. In another part of the yard that gets better sun, I planted 3 zucchini, 2 tomato, a cucumber and a bell pepper. I LOVE having fresh produce from my very own garden!

My lettuce and snap peas~I still have room in this bed for ... I guess blogging is not my thing, although I enjoy reading other’s blogs. Well, here’s how I did in April:

1.Track daily~I tracked 20 out of 30 days. Thu, 4 Apr 2013 09:15:55 EST March Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5270082 This month I am going to focus mainly on tracking. It is what works for me because I am accountable to everything I put in my mouth. It is also what I struggle with the most in my perfectionism. If I’m not sure about the nutritional info/calories, then I don’t track it. I am going to let go of that mentality and really track this month. I am also participating in 2 different team challenges which each emphasize healthy habits.
Here are my goals for March:

1. Track food every... Tue, 19 Feb 2013 09:17:42 EST My Walk Today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5244028 Today is our 9th day in Maui and I feel blessed to be enjoying tropical weather while much of the country is in the midst of cold winter. I took a walk alone today because hubby is not feeling well (some kind of chest cold/fever). I decided I would walk/jog on the road from our condo to a little beach park up the way where there are a lot of surfers/paddle boarders. It was only 20 min round-trip with about 6 minutes total of jogging intervals. Not sure what the distance was, but I sure got my...
