She loves crab so we went to a place called Big Fish and... Thu, 17 Apr 2014 08:35:55 EST Last day 5 celebration with granddaughter So the tradition that I started with grandson a couple of years ago where we go out to lunch just he and I to celebrate the last day of whatever year it is, is now something my granddaughter requested to celebrate today her last day of being 5. Tomorrow is her real birthday even though we had to have the "parties" last week end due to Easter. Anyway she loves crab so just she and I will go out to eat for a crab meal. Kinda cute that she insists that she just wants it to be "Nama" and her. ... Wed, 16 Apr 2014 09:53:27 EST Today is "Grandma Jane" day The grandkids and I will go visit awhile then go out to lunch. Should be fun. I definitely have some cushion weight as I weighed in at 104 this morning. So we are going to a cafe type place that has GF pizza which I will have.

Started reading the book, Salt Sugar Fat How the Food Giants Hooked Us and already am appalled. I bet by the time I am finished it I will boycott all packaged foods, which really won't be a big deal for me as I don't really eat them anyway and since I cut... Tue, 15 Apr 2014 09:06:51 EST Got a new book! I am always interested in various things and saw a book on amazon called Salt Sugar Fat - How the food Giants Hooked us. by Michael Moss.

I know I have blogged before about how my number one tip to anyone trying to lose weight is to treat food like drugs and get off of those things. It really worked so well for me and I wish that I had learned this lesson when I was that fat teenager. Once I went "cold turkey" and got those things out of my system I felt great and have so much m... Sun, 13 Apr 2014 09:08:55 EST Feeling better today So my doctor got right back to me in email and told me to up my prednisone a little again to 15mg per day.....5-5-5 three times per day. I woke up feeling human today and excited about granddaughter's birthday party. I am taking my Mom as well as it is being head at a cute little girl's beauty saloon where they play dress up and all and I really didn't want to miss it!!! Funny how just upping the prednisone did the trick. I know I will have to figure out how to live with the sjogrens and... Sat, 12 Apr 2014 07:42:49 EST Feeling a bit off Yep, not sure what is going on....crazy autoimmune crap!!!! I know I have to expect some challenges while away from home...need to get used to a new routine and such but really it is a pain in the butt when your system doesn't want to cooperate. I have just been feeling tired even though I do sleep. I don't think my body is absorbing enough vitamins and nutrients from my food....and I losing weight again and no appetite(hate when that happens). I dropped down to 103 and that is even with ... Fri, 11 Apr 2014 08:01:15 EST Grandson has a bit of the "give me, give mes" He loves his legos and is very good with them. But he continues to ask us to buy more for him....and these days these darn things are expensive!!! The one we bought him for Christmas was like $150 dollars...some Star war spaceship or something like that....and his is turning 8 and the thing was for like 10 and up and he follows the directions and does an amazing job with putting it together....but now the next one is is bugging everyone for is like $500.....I kid you not!!! Lego sure is sm... Thu, 10 Apr 2014 09:52:42 EST Woo hoo got my PA driver's license today. It's been like 30 years since I had a PA driver's license. So it's kinda fun to have it again....and the photo actually turned out better than my 15 year old Seattle driver's license. So now I have a Mexican driver's license and a Pennsylvania drivers license. So I am good to go. Next will be getting Pennsylvania plates on the Honda Pilot. We just figured since we will be here in Pennsylvania for several times for several months at a time then we should get the license. I am sure we wil... Wed, 9 Apr 2014 17:30:55 EST I have a question first of all....our grandchildren get their showers at night right before they are clean. They also wear underwear to bed. When I was a child growing up we got to change our PJ's every Sunday as my mother was a "mother earth" kind of gal and didn't want to run the washing machine too much....we also didn't have a dryer so there was that too...hanging things out was a chore. But my DIL has them change their PJ's every night.....I did the laundry yesterday and it was awful.....the... Tue, 8 Apr 2014 08:20:32 EST Nice party for DIL Great food and great people....but so sad for DIL...her family is a bit different. Her Mother, sister, brother, father and MIL(my husband's ex wife) did not come so none of her family....but our son's siblings all came(accept other son in Seattle). I felt a little sad for her as I could tell she was hurt. but it was a fun time.

Families are funny.....aren't they.

Hope you all are doing well.
Have a terrific day.
Sallie
<img src="http://photos-ak.spark... Mon, 7 Apr 2014 08:29:10 EST Good day Eating is a challenge again with the grandkids.... They didn't stick with our program that we taught them the last time about low sugar and junk food..... So I just had a little talk with them when they were whining about wanting the sugar cereal. I told them that Nama was really fat once and she had to take charge of her "taste buds"....I explained what taste buds were and how they get addicted to bad foods because they at first taste better but then once you train them the right way they ... Sun, 6 Apr 2014 15:00:40 EST Natural Bridge Photos from trip Wanted to share some of the photos from our I will share the Nature Bridge photos from our drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We stopped and did a 2 mile short hike to the falls. It was a beautiful day. I love nature and am thankful that I grew up in the countryside of Pennsylvania on 5 acres with a creek and much fun chasing frogs and having so much wildlife around.
Enjoy and have a great day.
Sallie
oh and today is our DIL's 40th birthday and we took t... Sat, 5 Apr 2014 07:10:28 EST Made it to West Chester Pennsylvania Didn't blog yesterday....just too much excitement with surprising the grandkids a day early. We arrived at the house right after they got home and rang the bell and hide.....when they saw us they started jumping up and down and streaming happy yells. DIL told us that they just had the conversation in the car about when we were coming the next day and exactly what time and would we be picking them up after school? Then there we cute.

So long trip but fun trip all the w... Fri, 4 Apr 2014 17:59:08 EST Beautiful travel day This will be short as I am pooped and going to eat something in the room now.
We traveled like for 4 hours on the Blue Ridge route and saw the mountains and lots of country. We just got back from eating an early dinner as we only had snacks (me apple and almonds) in the car. Ate at a Ruby Tuesdays and they had a Gluten free had chicken and salad bar and took my own salad dressing. Still feeling good. Tomorrow I am excited as we are taking the scenic route up the blue ridge mountains. Should be fun. Tomorrow night will be staying in Gettysburg and will tour that on Thursday and then will suprise the grandkids Thursday nigh... Tue, 1 Apr 2014 18:29:33 EST Great day in Nashville. Wonderful weather first of all..not too cold for this thin skinned gal. We went to the Opry...totally cool. Took the backstage tour. then we went to what used to be Barbara Mandel's log cabin...very cool. Made me miss my lodge home in that style of house. Then we went downtown and ate and saw street singers. Oh and we went and took our photos outside of the Bluebird Cafe which is featured and many scenes shot in one of my favorite TV shows...Nashville. Very weird though..... Mon, 31 Mar 2014 19:37:10 EST Finally made it to Nashville. We left Baton Rouge this morning around 8am and just got to Nashville at 5pm long drive day. We don't feel like going out to eat...just don't want to get in the car again. So I called Dominos to see if they had gluten free pizza and they do. so I will have a small plain pizza which won't be too bad as I ate totally on plan yesterday and so far on plan with yogurt in car today. It will be interesting to see what it taste like. the only thing I wish was that dominos would have salad... Sun, 30 Mar 2014 19:41:52 EST Made it to Baton Rouge Have a nice morning with dear friend Sylvia in Houston and we left around 11:30 and headed back on the road. We made it to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. we aren't doing and touring and because my DH is a silver member of the Marriott we were upgraded to a suite when we arrived. So we took our overnight bags up to our suite and I asked my DH if it would be okay with him if we just found a grocery store with a salad bar and got salads for the evening and have them in our suite. It's just that I ... Sat, 29 Mar 2014 18:54:34 EST Photos from yesterday. Was a fun day yesterday....visited the Alamo and the riverwalk. Then hooked up with dear friends for lunch that used to be our neighbors in Ajijic.
So far my health is hanging in there. We are now at another dear friends house whom we haven't seen in like 20 years but have kept in touch. We have been wanting her to come and visit since it's an easy flight from Houston to GDL to see us but she kept making excuses. Now I know why. My dear friend is very overweight now....I am totall... Fri, 28 Mar 2014 11:02:44 EST Fun time at the Alamo Just hanging at the hotel now in San Antonio waiting for dear friends to do lunch.
Have a great time at the Alamo. Very interesting....cloudy and wet but still fun later.

Health is holding out fine. for the free breakfast they had hard boiled eggs so I took my gluten free bread and toasted it and added gluten free peanut butter and then took the egg whites and layered them on it to make a sandwich.....not bad....and got good fat, protein and all wa... Thu, 27 Mar 2014 12:24:01 EST Back in America! Well, we are in American!!! Woo hoo. We made it to San Antonio without too much trouble. Got the import sticker for the Honda turned in so now it's an official American car again....first time in like 8 years.
cold and rainy here though...not used to that...pulling out some sweatshirt and socks and such. Burr to my thin "Mexican Blood".
Tomorrow I am excited to see the Alamo and riverwalk and such.

I did sleep well last night which was needed and fell asleep like at ... Wed, 26 Mar 2014 17:44:33 EST Made it to Saltillo Mexico. Well what a heck of a very long day!!!! We got up around 5am and got on the road around 6:30 and it' now just about 6:30 and we just arrived at our hotel. We are still in Mexico, Saltillo. Tomorrow it will take us about 3 hours to the border and then another two hours to San Antonio. We will stay two night there and hook up with the couple that used to live on the 3rd floor of the house next door. Bill and Sylvia. It will be nice to see them. But boy am I tried. We are going down for ... Tue, 25 Mar 2014 20:36:14 EST All packed short blog as still things to do to get house ready for other couple.
still feeling we should be headed north tomorrow.

Thanks again for all your support and encouragement. you rule!
will keep in touch when and where we have internet.
Cheers
Sallie Mon, 24 Mar 2014 18:13:24 EST Hapy Sunday Feeling really happy today. Happy that the prednisone is doing it's job. Happy that as just about always it is a bright and sunny day. Happy that I am feeling better. Happy that I am just about all packed for heading north. Just Happy.

so, will not let the 1.5 pound gain on the scale screw with that happiness...I have room to play with anyway. My goal is 105 on my small frame am I am eating the same thing every day.....and have been maintaining close to the 105...although did... Sun, 23 Mar 2014 10:53:55 EST Any youtube experience. My FIL is doing well in and all settled in in the assisted living place and when we visited yesterday he seemed happy. we take him lots of DVD's to watch on his computer which he likes. We have taken him many TV series that have been fun for him. He only has his computer to watch things on which is working well as we got him a nice one with a big screen. He asked me about NCIS and Dvd but they didn't have any down here. So I went to youtube to see if you can watch full shows on it....and... Sat, 22 Mar 2014 10:40:50 EST Must be doing better...Pedometer said 19,014 steps yesterday Yep, that prednisone is doing it's job for now. I couldn't believe it when I looked at the pedometer last night when I took it off to go to bed. Woo hoo.
Of course I am feeling good enough to do things to prepare for our driving trip from Ajijic, Mexico to Pennsylvania. Since we are taking the car I am packing many things that I want to take and leave up north. So thankful that I am feeling better and more like myself.

My hunger still hasn't come back. I am obviously no... Fri, 21 Mar 2014 11:12:09 EST Happy Thursday Finally feeling happy again although not thrilled with having to take higher dose of prednisone. It's a shame the drugs can lead to so many side effects as it does it's job well and fast when needed. but I am just happy to be feeling like myself again. Will have a long 40 day process of tapering off of it the right way. And I have to understand with my Sjogren's it will most likely be necessary to go on and off it when I have flare ups. I pray that they can make a new med that works as w... Thu, 20 Mar 2014 11:13:14 EST Thank you all again for your input I really do learn so much from all of you .... thank you so much. It's so nice to not feel all alone. I am doing better on the higher doses of the prednisone. Had a good day yesterday and plan on having a good day today.

We are still without power(thank goodness for generator). I have called the electric company which is always a funny experience as they speak spanish and I speak "spanglish"...some how we get by but it is frustrating when you can actually see the problem on ... Wed, 19 Mar 2014 10:33:05 EST Any prednisone takers out there? First of all I am feeling a bit better today. My doctor decided to put me on a higher dose of prednisone. Then of course I will then have to taper off again. I am on 15 mg per day taking 5 mg 3 times per day. This is for a week. It amazes me how quickly I felt better but of course there is the insomnia that comes from taking it. I also know that it screws with your cortisone levels and adrenal glands. So my question is for anyone out there with experience and what suggestions you migh... Tue, 18 Mar 2014 14:00:25 EST Still feeling aweful I soooo want to feel better!!! I want to get healthy enough to have fun on the ride up north to Pennsylvania and to enjoy my grandchildren!!! I am just a bit depressed that timing wise this happened now.

Thank you JudyAMK for telling me about the site with the autoimmune diet on it. According to it, I was actually eating some wrong things....bananas, canned tuna, my cream of buckwheat cereal, etc. So I printed off the new diet which is even more restrictive and will give it a ... Mon, 17 Mar 2014 11:15:23 EST another day. Trying so hard to be positive. But still not right. I emailed my doctor to see what she thinks and if I need to go back on IV again. we will see. I am trying so hard to keep my mind off how yucky I feel. Walked the doggies with DH their 4 miles. I really didn't feel like it but I keep telling myself it helps with my digestion which I am for sure having issues with.
I am also going to get dressed and run an errand or two with DH. He is frustrated as well that we really just don't k... Sun, 16 Mar 2014 13:05:21 EST Tummy really upset today think I am having a little set back. so nauseous. but trying to remain positive. And even though I was not feeling like it due to the upset tummy, I walked the doggies with DH. I told myself that I might feel better if I just moved....I do feel a little better knowing what I accomplished. but now am going to drink lots of water and chill out....could be just a movie day. Just want to feel good again. I feel like my body just isn't taking in the nutrition from my food again, therefore n... Sat, 15 Mar 2014 12:33:58 EST Fake it until you make it I feel I am getting better each day. Now am sad that I am not on the trip. My friends email me where they are and what they are seeing...but not the same. Bummed we couldn't make it but happy I am getting better.

So yesterday I went along with DH when he walked the dogs and once I got out there did the full 4 miles. They went on errands with hi just to keep my mind off feeling yucky and then went to visit FIL.....he said "you don't look too good"....funny. I said yep for sure ... Fri, 14 Mar 2014 10:55:20 EST Little by little Just a couple of things......missing my kitties while sick...they have always been here for me to cuddle with while spending so much time on the couch. Just had to say it!

I am working on being positive and focusing on taking care of myself and taking the meds. The crazy thing about autoimmunes is that nothing really shows up in your blood work to say "yep this is why you feel so bad" still drives me crazy. I am the kind of person that does better with defined answers..... Thu, 13 Mar 2014 11:46:53 EST not going on trip I am sitting here bummed as I woke this morning feeling sick still. So my DH said it would be better if we just stayed home and focused on getting me well so I can be feeling good to make the driving trip up north to see the grandchildren. So we canceled going. My DH is so sweet though...he said not to worry about the money we will lose just to focus on getting well. Part of the problem is that I am on heavy antibiotics that make me feel sick. I guess it's them doing their job. But I a... Wed, 12 Mar 2014 08:52:50 EST Still on IV but feeling better I sure am "juiced" up. yesterday before I got on IV, I was 105.5 and this morning I was talk about being "puffed" up. They pumped me with antibiotics as well to fight what infection I might have had in my stomach. I will now be on two different types of antibiotic pills. One for 14 days and one for 5 days. I guess that will help to keep any infection out of me while traveling. My only problem is that the antibiotics do upset my tummy so will carry lots of gluten free bread wi... Tue, 11 Mar 2014 11:23:58 EST today warnants a second blog Okay so I was really trying to just be positive and "think away" my symptoms of tummy distress, burning eyes and dry tongue and just get on with things.....but I mentioned my concern to my DH and he said to call my I did and she knows that we are going away on Wednesday and she also thinks I might have a stomach infection so she talked to my nurse and sent her to the house and they have me on IV which has fluids and antibiotics. They are so great down here....when I call they com... Mon, 10 Mar 2014 15:12:14 EST Admit I have a challenge My digestive system has been wacky ever since I ate out the other day and had the vinegar and cauliflower. So I have been researching what I can eat that is easiest to digest. Finding out that the raspberries and blueberries that I eat almost every day aren't the easiest to digest. So giving them up for a while. I was feeling so incredible good and that is why we planned the upcoming trip. but I am not going to worry and am taking a lot of my own foods so I will have things to eat that... Mon, 10 Mar 2014 11:17:29 EST Sharing some Ajijic Marti gras photos <img src="http://photos-ak... Sun, 9 Mar 2014 17:30:42 EST Tummy is feeling a bit better Thank you all again for all the tips and advice. I am feeling good. Must have been the vinegar and cauliflower. Boy was that scary though with all that I have going on.
We have just about everything personal out of FIL's house and moved over to where he is living. He seems happy to be getting all his things around him. He also admitted that he is happy that he won't be living on his own anymore. So that was good and he says he loves the attention and all the gals that care for him.... Sat, 8 Mar 2014 09:58:04 EST Thank you all for your advise and support I am always amazed at how so many people here on sparks step up and take the time to write responses to one's blog. Especially when we need advice or help. I got some good information regarding my digestive problem the other day. My tummy is still a little rough today but watching carefully what I eat. I am going to cut out the almonds for a couple of days. didn't realize that nuts are hard to digest. I will miss them as they add the protein and flavor I like but not worth it if my dige... Fri, 7 Mar 2014 10:16:40 EST Anyone else have this Yesterday in the middle of all the packing and such my DH and I stopped to get a bite to eat at a good restaurant. I had grilled sea bass with toasted almonds, cooked carrots and cauliflower. I added a bit of vinegar to the fish as well as lime on the veggies(they were a little dry)...tasted good and then I had a normal meal at night of Greek Yogurt and raspberries and blueberries and almonds. All seemed well until around 8:30 a night and I got the worse pains in my gut. I mean really ... Thu, 6 Mar 2014 15:16:24 EST Follow up doctor visit went well I had my 6 month check up with my wonderful doctor who insists on being called Dr. Veronica....yep doctors down here go by their first names. I think it's all part of their "bedside" manner. And they always hug you hello and good bye. I think if we ever moved from here I would miss the special attention so much and also would miss their on time schedule. I was scheduled for a 4:30 appointment and she was there and ready at 4:25. Oh and did I mention the appointment was only $500 pesos wh... Wed, 5 Mar 2014 10:30:16 EST Packing up a household is mucho exercise! Worked yesterday to go through FIL "stuff" at the house that we will list. It's always so hard going through others things and making decisions. My FIL got into taking photos and had like 40 boxes of slide carousels full of slides from when he went to gardens and zoos. No one ever looks at them and we have no projector. So they will have to place to store them and no photos of people. Today we need to go through like 50 big photo albums. He went a little overboard with the photo... Tue, 4 Mar 2014 09:36:29 EST with FIL went well We told him that we wanted to sell the house he was living in and in the event he makes a miraculous recovery and wanted to be independent again we could always find a furnished rental. He understood and was fine with it. He says he likes where he is living and loves the care takers. So big stress off our shoulders. Now the work begins. We have 9 days to get his personal things out of the house and get the house ready to sell. We will sell it furnished so won't have to move much furnitu... Mon, 3 Mar 2014 10:35:10 EST Can't take the girl scout out of me Yep, the motto of "be prepared" must have been drummed into me something fierce. But I am glad as now with the autoimmune disorder if I am prepared and for some reason have a "flare up" like I did before we left on the big Disney World vacation in June at least I am packed and ready to go. Remember right before we were to leave I had to go on IV for 3 days 24/7. But it worked and I got juiced up and had a wonderful time. I know my DH thinks I can be a pain in the butt but I want to get th... Sun, 2 Mar 2014 10:29:54 EST Lots to do! I think today is the day we tell my FIL that we are selling the house he was living in. My DH took him to his doctor appointment yesterday and the doctor continues to give him the "go ahead" to exercise and walk and such. He just really isn't taking charge to do it. As I have said before he also seems to like being bathed and such. I think he likes the touch and such. I don't blame him. He and his wife who passed now almost 10 years ago were so close that they showered together every da...
