MEXGAL1's SparkPeople Blog MEXGAL1's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Learned something new from our attorneys yesterday First of all I really do appreciate all of you comments and good wishes regarding this stupid law suit. I do want you all to know though that I am a very strong woman and do not let this get under my skin. My DH and I are fortunate that we have the resources to fight this all the way to the supreme court if need be. And our attorney told us at that level the law would hold and we would be again found innocent. The higher court system can not be bought by bribes. And we have been reading ... Wed, 4 Mar 2015 10:42:36 EST Happy Tuesday Not a whole lot to report. I am at my goal weight of 105 today which is nice.

We have several meetings today. The first with our attorney regarding the "endless" lawsuit from the crazy people next door. Again, we have done nothing wrong and their claim is all lies again. For those that follow me, you know this has been going on now for 4 years. The first suit was a criminal one where they said we took gas tanks off their property(they were hidden in their garage). They also... Tue, 3 Mar 2015 09:54:57 EST Friend Greg came in second place for margaritas Got a call yesterday from his new wife with the news. the one that won was from a restaurant and two of the owners are young gals who really work it. They are adorable and were calling their margaritas Huggy Margaritas and giving of course free hugs as they passed out their samples. Way cute. So if Greg had to come in second to anyone it would be good if they won. He agreed.

Nothing else to report all is good here.
Hope you all have a terrific week.
Sallie
<B... Mon, 2 Mar 2015 13:52:15 EST Nice time at the chili festival
Had a really nice time at the Chili Festival yesterday. We had to go to support our friend, Greg, and vote for his margarita. Haven't heard yet if he w... Sat, 28 Feb 2015 10:49:37 EST Had a wonderful birthday

Had a great time with dear friends for my birthday dinner. The food was awesome and even our picky friend Lee thought the food to be great. I kept celebrating yesterday when I got my facial as a gift as well as another lunch out with dear lady friend....but of course today I am a bit slow due to too much sugar and salt. When you are not used to eating it, it sure plays havoc with one's body. It makes me feel lik... Fri, 27 Feb 2015 10:40:46 EST Please, special request for prayers! Hello dear friends,
I was going to blog today about getting older and write about funny things that happen to one's body and that I am celebrating now one whole year on Social Security. Yes it's my Birthday.

But I would rather ask all of you to please pray for a dear little girl who is the granddaughter and only grandchild of a friend of mine. I received the following email this morning. So please pray and ask others to pray for dear little Ava. She is an adorable little b... Wed, 25 Feb 2015 09:40:56 EST My Oscar review LOL Well, a bit tired today as I stayed up to watch the Oscars and it threw my sleeping routine out of whack….very funny how that happens. If I don’t do lights out at 10 I can’t get to sleep. Oh well it was fun anyway. I can’t believe that Birdman won for best picture. DH and I turned it off and just couldn’t watch it. And then the other one that won a lot of award The Grand Budapest Hotel, we also turned off after about 20 minutes. Both were not our thing. I think that it is so funny what... Mon, 23 Feb 2015 11:57:47 EST Nice time celebrating BD with neighbors My neighbors wanted to celebrate my BD early(not until Wednesday) as they will be away on the actual day. It was a great time. Yummy salad and pizza and the owner who has a wonderful voice sang a song for me and gave us a bottle of Champagne. Then everyone sang Happy Birthday over my Tiramisu. I ate a lot and yet was surprised that I didn't gain any weight...woo hoo nice present. Oh and my friend Toni gave me a neat necklace that when you look close is made out a fork....very fun.
H... Sun, 22 Feb 2015 10:52:49 EST Carnaval in Ajijic, Mexico Yesterday was Carnaval day in Ajijic, Mexico, or Mardi Gras as it is known in New Orleans. I have lived in Mexico for 10 years now and every year I see more and more efforts in the floats and parades. We were headed to a meeting yesterday and forgot that it was carnival and were wondering why there were traffic jams. well now we know. It appeared that throwing flour on spectators is replacing confetti.
The Mexicans say, “Carnaval, carne va.” which loosely translated means , for “Carn... Wed, 18 Feb 2015 10:21:35 EST FIL Someone recently asked about FIL so I thought I would give a quick update. He hasn't made any progress to get up and move about. All the doctors and nurses say that there is nothing wrong with him accept he is completely lazy. the nurses do everything for him. change his diapers, help feed him, shave him, etc. They all just say he is lazy. It is sad to say but we don't expect him to work at it and therefore he will be mostly bed ridden. We are frustrated to say the least but it is his ... Sun, 15 Feb 2015 11:40:07 EST Happy Valentine's Day to all! I started my morning with a fun ecard from DH. It really made me giggle. He said he was sending me two things that I really love.....disco and mexico. It was so funny. It was a mariachi band playing a disco song...Get Down Tonight and they were funny looking guys some with big bellies dancing. Really nice way to start the day.

Today is the day that we go to the wedding of a dear friend who is getting married to a wonderful Mexican woman that we love. there will be 120 people ... Sat, 14 Feb 2015 10:12:04 EST Appreciate all the friend feedback but.... I get like 200 emails a day notifying me of someone "liking" something that I did. It has just gotten out of hand so I think I have clicked off the link that notifies me. I hope that I do not offend any of you, but it just got out of hand. I will try and remember to go to the friend feed and see what's going on occasionally but for now I won't get notice if you "liked" something. I do love you all though and will continue to blog and keep in touch and will do better to follow all of your... Thu, 5 Feb 2015 10:20:06 EST Making a costume for roaring 20's party A dear friend of mine has married a wonderful Mexican woman and they are having a big party. She wants us all to dress in Great Gatsby or Roaring 20 outfits. I am making one and I think it is turning out well. I have a great hat for it that looks like it came from that era. The hardest thing will be dressing my DH as he has no long pants here accept blue jeans and only one white shirt...nothing else. He usually just wears tee-shirts. And here in Mexico it's not like you can just go to ... Wed, 4 Feb 2015 10:26:09 EST A little sad here at Casa Watson as our Hawks lost <img src="http://photo... Mon, 2 Feb 2015 12:41:23 EST Super Bowl Sunday. Finally! Go Hawks! I thought this day would never get here. It feels like Christmas to me to have a team I love in the big game. I love you Elizabeth(Sparks friend) and I know you are a Patriots fan, but GO HAWKS!!!

We are having a party with all Seahawks fans so it should be a blast.

I hope you all have a terrific Sunday and my beloved Seahawks win their second Super Bowl.

Go Hawks
Sallie Sun, 1 Feb 2015 11:16:38 EST Tried to watch Grand Budapist Hotel Like said "tried". It was awful. My DH got upset and ripped the dvd out and said some nasty words about how awful it was and not even "watchable" in his opinion. He is a funny man and gets upset over silly things. So we watched Wild. I like it. Very thought provoking.

Today I will walk the doggies and then Pita gets delivered to her new home. She is all fluffy as she got a bath. Both dogs will be happier living apart. Then I will go buy brats for the super bowl party. w... Fri, 30 Jan 2015 10:06:14 EST Watch the Theory of Everything This is the movie about Steve Hawking. We Loved it! We think that the actor should win for best actor. It was done very well. So we recommend that one.

FIL is in the new house as of yesterday. Mina the nurse moved her nursing home into the village in a new place that is less rent and therefore she can afford more help and have two nurses on duty at all time. Very good for her. FIL has a nice room with his own bath. There is still a lot to get done but things are looking goo... Mon, 26 Jan 2015 10:08:16 EST DH and my opinion so far on Academy nominations. American Sniper – very good. Sobering.
Selma – just OK in our opinion.
Boyhood – terrible. Long, boring, we couldn’t wait for it to be over.
Whiplash – not very good. Maybe just barely OK.
Theory of Everything – We have this but haven’t watched it yet. Probably tonight.

We will most likely see the others before the big night and I will give you my opinion of the remaining. I think it's funny that DH and I don't realize why some are nominated. I think it ha... Sun, 25 Jan 2015 10:51:59 EST Having a bout of esophagitis First of all I must say that I feel really blessed to have been healthy now since my last bout of esophagitis and bad flare which happened last May and my DH had to bring me home. For those that follow me that is when I went in the hospital in the states and the IV did no good. Unfortunately the last couple of days I have been having the symptoms of when I had the bad bout of esophagitis at the end of May last year.
That is when I had an endoscopy and went on meds. I still have some... Fri, 23 Jan 2015 10:25:47 EST Better today Feel so much better today. Yesterday was really rough. I hope I learned a lesson. thank you all for your comments and well wishes. I am already thinking of something healthy to make for the superbowl. Think I will do something with chicken in the crock pot with lots of veggies. I will search some recipes. For sure though I am committed to not eating all junk food all day!

Nice bright sunny day today. Will get out and walk the doggies and then do some errands.

Hop... Tue, 20 Jan 2015 10:29:22 EST Yeah Seahawks!!!

Here are photos of us all cheering hard from Ajijic Mexico for our Seahawks. Not sure who saw the game but it was incredible. The Seahawks were down so much that many here stopped watching the game. Even my DH gave up. But myself and two other guys stuck with it and got the treat of a lifetime. Seahawks won in over time with a touch down.
... Mon, 19 Jan 2015 10:19:49 EST Go Hawks! Big football day today. We need our Seahawks to win to go to the Super Bowl. Having a party here at Casa Watson but only Seahawk fans invited ; )

I had a nice lunch with a new friend. I met her when I was walking the dogs. It turned out that she and her DH are big Seahawk fans and will be here today. Also turns out that they will be looking for a house to rent for 2 years or so after their current lease is up in September. My DH still wants another adventure and would like to... Sun, 18 Jan 2015 10:04:00 EST Knitting So I started a new hobby. With my hands becoming more "crippled" with the connective tissue part of my Sjogren's, I figured that I should exercise them and use them as much as possible. I am already dropping things more often then I used to and the strength also has weakened.

So when we were up north I bought some yarns and different size knitting needles. I learned to do the basic cast on stiches, regular knit, and the purl stich. I will continue to practice and who knows perh... Wed, 14 Jan 2015 13:57:30 EST Yeah Seahawks!
We hosted the Seahawks playoff party yesterday. DH grilled some brats and I made baked beans(cooked all day in crock pot), and salad. I didn't eat a br... Sun, 11 Jan 2015 13:59:25 EST FIL's pain in foot Thought I would blog about this to see if anyone here has ideas. My FIL continues to complain about pain in his one foot. Two doctors have looked at it and couldn't find anything wrong with it. He is obviously using this as an excuse not to try and walk and such. It can't be anything that has to do with overuse as he never uses it. He is not diabetic so I doubt it is neuropathy. So, any ideas???

Otherwise life is good getting back to all my routines. Looking forward to tomo... Fri, 9 Jan 2015 10:23:18 EST Best part of getting back into my routine And that includes getting facials here in Ajijic. I have a wonderful gal who gives you an hour facial for like $35 and that includes tip. It is so relaxing and she is a lovely person. She always has the room nice and warm and soft music playing. Very nice!

DH and I watched a kind of cute movie yesterday with Bill Murray. It was called Love thy Neighbor. I would recommend it.

Other than that life is good getting back into routines.
Have a great day.
Sall... Thu, 8 Jan 2015 10:32:34 EST An idea I had an idea regarding our granddaughter and her being overweight and addicted to sugar. As I mentioned her Daddy gets it and we talked on the way to the airport about it and he welcomed our input to try and influence our DIL. But as I have said, she agrees in principle but then doesn't follow through. So I told my DH that I had an idea to see if I can find a Nutritionist/Dietitians in their area that we would pay for to work with our DIL to assist her with our granddaughter. I just can... Wed, 7 Jan 2015 10:17:01 EST Love getting back into routines Just finished up the second day of walking the doggies their 4 miles. DH has been joining me. He wants to once again eat right and exercise. He too was a little relaxed with both up north. I just let it go as we both are good about getting back to basics. I came home weighing in at is that is all good. Today we are taking friends out to lunch who watched our dog Morgan while we were away. We are going somewhere that I know I can order what I want.

Went t... Tue, 6 Jan 2015 13:04:36 EST One final vent about GD First of all it feels so good to be home. It was such a long day yesterday traveling. I hate having to get up at 4:30 to leave for the airport. I worry about getting up so I don't sleep. The good news is that we only had one flight that was late taking off. Only one other problem and that was on the flight from Houston to Guadalajara I sat in the middle and the man next to me was simply awful. I have never sat next to someone so inconsiderate. He was coughing and of course I was wearin... Mon, 5 Jan 2015 10:56:12 EST Grrrr So here I am blogging again about the granddaughter and her sugar addiction. Both my DH and I are very concerned. My DH wants to write a letter to his DIL and tell her how concerned we are and how they need to get all the sugar out of the house.

Last night she kept asking for a "treat". Just now her mommy was "making breakfast" as Lyla kept saying she was starving. I saw she was making toaster waffles so I took the opportunity to tell her about me babysitting the night before a... Sat, 3 Jan 2015 09:48:41 EST Sugar Addiction I am still off "the stuff" but still craving it. It truly is a drug to me. I also feel so sorry for our granddaughter as today they went to visit our DIL's parents and they give into her and feed her tons of candy and junk. When they came home she was in the bathroom with her Daddy sick to her tummy. then the parents went out to eat and my DH and I were in charge and feed them dinner....and wouldn't you know, she came up to me after dinner wanting a sweet. Poor thing is so addicted. I t... Fri, 2 Jan 2015 19:27:38 EST Still off sugar! I think I can safely say that I am once again off sugar. Yesterday was day four and yes, I still craved it but when I did, I did the old trick of brushing my teeth. That really helped as well as going to "bed" early and ready on my kindle to get my mind off it.

DH and I had a very low key New Years as it was way too cold here for us to go with the kids into Philadelphia for the fireworks. DH and I watched Gone Girl and it was good. I had read the book first and thought they did... Thu, 1 Jan 2015 11:25:13 EST Happy New Year Dear Sparks Buddies Another year is about to end and I believe I have been on sparks now for like six years now. I can't believe how time flies. Thank you all for your constant support. I wish you all happiness and most if all health for 2015!

Happy New Year!
Sallie Wed, 31 Dec 2014 12:46:14 EST Sugar Monster got me! So for someone who rarely eats was totally off it for a couple of years.....I gave in and had some homemade Christmas cookies. So now I remember why I opted to give it up!!!! It is like a drug to me. Once I start eating it, I can not stop. So one little cookie turned into like 6 or so...lost count. So today I have a sugar "hangover". I don't know how people do it that can have just one portion and stop! So I am trying really hard again today to not have any sugar. It's s... Thu, 25 Dec 2014 14:53:04 EST Family drama..what would Christmas be without it? Weird??? So for those who have followed me for some time you will get a kick out of this. For those who just dropped in some brief background(sister moved my Mom back to PA from Mexico and had mom spend 130,000 to build a MIL suite onto her house and then takes her SS check every month, has total control of Mom's money and has big parties using Mom's credit card and such. Mom really doesn't know that Sister is "stealing from her"...and only reason sister's husband puts up with it is that he wants he... Tue, 16 Dec 2014 17:52:26 EST Taking Grandma Jane out to lunch today. My Mother has been waiting patiently for me to go and see her...just so busy with the grandkids and after school duty and such. Anyway today we will take her out to lunch with the grandkids. She is looking forward to it and so am I. And the good news is that my DH suggested it and is going with us. For those of you who have followed me for years you know this is a big deal. As my DH and Mother had a big fight years ago and that is when my mother moved back up north to live with my sister... Sun, 14 Dec 2014 09:56:24 EST Snow in Philly makes it even more Chilly! I must say the white stuff is pretty but it sure makes my connective tissue issue due to my Sjogrens ache. Keeping busy and keeping my mind off it helps.

Grands are keeping me busy. Yesterday DH and I went and bought a sweet bike for the granddaughter for Christmas....Purple and Pink of course! I know she will love it. And for the grandson who is a sweet nerd we are getting him his first microscope. He is a riot...he comes home just about everyday wanting to do a science pro... Mon, 8 Dec 2014 11:07:26 EST All packed and ready to go! Not sure you all will hear from me tomorrow. It depends on how much time we have on our layover in Houston.

We went out to take our smaller dog to the home where Mina said she would look after her...well actually we are doing what we did before and pay her two boys to look after her. FIL still in bed and is complaining to Mina all the time about pain everywhere. it is really sad that he doesn't understand that he will be sore if he doesn't get up and move around. I have stopp... I love this site as I get many ideas and hear stories of things that you all have done and such. Many good ideas on how to make "spoiled" grandchildren have empathy for those less fortunate.

Chilly here in Ajijic this morning but the sun is shinning and it will warm up. I am working on organizing things like pay envelopes for help while away, along with their Christmas (yes I use that word!) envelopes with bonus. We went out yesterday and bought 32 cans of dog food for Morgan an... Wed, 3 Dec 2014 10:53:49 EST Commercial Christmas is hitting Ajijic Had to run an errand at Walmart and I was shocked to see all the Christmas stuff. When we first moved here 9 years ago I remember having to really hunt and search for things like xmas lights. It was kind of fun to go on the "treasure hunt". Now that we have a Walmart here they hit hard on all the holidays and way before it's time. this year there were even Halloween costumes in August!!! The Christmas stuff went up like 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. I kind of feel sad about it as I was a... Tue, 2 Dec 2014 10:22:32 EST Wow, Happy December! I can't believe it is the last month of 2014!!! Time sure does fly by. It seems to fly quicker as I age ; ) Looking forward now to heading north on Saturday...well accept for the weather.

Today we are meeting with a realtor to get an appraisal on the house we own next door that our friends who we bought the house for to hold for them. It is sunny but chilly here in Ajijic....but I am not complaining as this time next week I will be very chilly in Philly!!! Looking forward to the trip though. I wanted it to be a surprise for the grands but this family is terrible with surprises. Back when Tom jr. had his big release show for his new CD I wanted to just show up in the audience but his brother told him we were coming....grr...this time we told the son that we wanted to surprise the grands and their Mom told them we were c... Sun, 30 Nov 2014 10:29:51 EST Had my fill of Thanksgiving food. I mentioned yesterday that I was roasting a small turkey to have for leftovers here for DH and I. I made some healthy sides and it all turned out good. But I did over eat and am feeling it today. It is so funny how food can really affect your energy level when you over do it. It's chilly here today for Ajijic but I will get out and walk the doggies and that should warm me up. Funny though just when you need the exercise most (due to over indulgence), is when you have a "food hangover" an... Sat, 29 Nov 2014 10:20:48 EST Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I cooked just about all day and took out all the old fashioned side dishes that everyone loves to the "old folks" home where FIL is. We had bought the turkey and the cook there roasted it. As I mentioned before I was a little nervous as Mexicans don't often make turkey as it's so expensive. I instructed him in my "Spanglish" about not stuffing it so it would bake quicker and told him temp and approximate time but also gave him a meat thermometer with a photo of a bird at the right temp. <...
