MEXGAL1's SparkPeople Blog MEXGAL1's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Sun is gone in Seattle Crazy how I can sleep in Seattle. The darkness makes me want to hibernate. In Mexico just about everyday the sunshine wakes me. But here it's dark and I just want to hibernate.

Last night was a nice evening at Marie's parents house. Her Mom was having some fundraiser and had the ladies from her church there for a demonstration by a chef to make tapas. It was fun. Her mother was so gracious and introduced me to everyone as the future MIL. I am not shy so I made my way aroun... Fri, 17 Oct 2014 15:00:33 EST Great day yesterday First and foremost I was thrilled to met in person 3 sparks buddies. One I had met one of the ladies two years ago but the other two were new "met in persons" for me. We got together for lunch. It was so great to met in person. And after being in touch so much on Sparks I just knew I would love them in person. I was not disappointed at all. Just wonderful ladies and I felt blessed to met them and have them in my life. Here we are at lunch.
<img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeople.c... Thu, 16 Oct 2014 14:32:56 EST Been so very busy I haven't bogged for a couple of days as I have been so busy! So many people to see during our short visit here in Seattle. We have been eating out way more than I had planned but I have just decided to eat what I can and not worry about weight but health. I have been feeling good which makes me so happy as the last time I traveled I ended up in the hospital on IV....darn Sjogren's!

Yesterday DH and I went to Bellevue, Washington to a fancy Jewelry store owned by a friend of o... Wed, 15 Oct 2014 12:35:56 EST First day activities in Seattle
Got together with dear friends and Tom Jr and his lovely fiancé Marie and hung out for a bit then went out for a late lunch. We wanted to show off Marie to our friends. Of course they loved her...what's not to love. I had Caesar Salad as it was the safest thing. It was one of those "fu fu" places with crazy menu. So at least I knew what I was getting.

Today is a great football day and we get to see bot... Sun, 12 Oct 2014 12:30:28 EST Made it to Seattle Very long day! Nice though that all flights were on time and we arrived around 5pm. then the guys headed off to the Sounders soccer game and Marie(tommy's fiancé) and I went out for a salad. It was nice for me to have her alone for a bit. Such a sweet gal. Stayed up to get on the Seattle time zone...but slept great. Don't even think I got up the whole night.

Today we get together with dear friends whom we were so close to for the 18 years we lived here. We owned our first ... Sat, 11 Oct 2014 12:18:57 EST Shame on me for my thoughts Well we made it to Houston and have about a two hour layover so we are in the United Red Carpet club where we can get on line and have drinks (tea for me) and eat snacks if we want. I was "admiring" the big home baked chocolate cookies but of course would never have one. Then this really big gal just sat down in front of me with a big plateful and ate them all as well as a big cup of trial mix, cheeses, etc. So I said to myself in my head....."see if you ate like that you would look like t... Fri, 10 Oct 2014 13:29:14 EST Seattle here we come! Was all packed and ready to go so went and had a facial. Then washed my hair. Now I get to just chill out. Will go to be early as we need to leave at 5:45. Remember the old days when you could get to the airport like 1/2 before flights. And remember when your friends or family could come to meet you at the gate. Geez, things sure have changed.

I am getting excited to see folks. Will also try to work it out that 3 sparks buddies who live there can get together with me. Hop... Thu, 9 Oct 2014 15:10:26 EST Happy to see bright sunny morning Nice to have blues skies for my doggie walk. Will get my sun in today and hopefully tomorrow before heading to Seattle on Friday where it is much cooler and overcast. But my disposition will be sunny while in Seattle as we are scheduled to see many dear friends. And of course it will be great to see step son and his beautiful, lovely fiancé. They will pick us up at the airport and then the guys will go off to a soccer game and the gals will play it by ear. Will be nice to get some alone ... Wed, 8 Oct 2014 10:38:51 EST More photos So here are some more photos from the party the other night. I share these as I wanted you all to see the huge flower arrangement that the Mexican family brought over for my friend Gail's birthday. They also brought me the mum arrangement that looks like a little poodle. Some of you might recall that on my birthday in February the same family came over and brought me a huge arrangement on my birthday. This is the family where all of us neighbors hire the father and sons to do projects at ... Mon, 6 Oct 2014 18:12:46 EST Nice time last night
Had a really nice time last night at neighbors. We all got together to celebrate all those who have birthdays this month(4 people). My girlfriend paid particular attention to the foods I can and cannot eat and made the meal totally "friendly" for me. Very sweet. I stayed on until the tequila came out and folks were started drinking that after Champaign and wine and beer. the party started around 3 and I left at 8. ... Sun, 5 Oct 2014 16:08:21 EST Back from Guadalajara My DH and I just got back from meeting with the oral surgeon who will extract my 4 wisdom teeth on October 23 after DH and I get back from Seattle. It was funny when the doctor walked in both my DH and I looked at each other as this doctor looked just like my Rhemy doctor. Turns out they are brother and sister. And they have another brother who is in infectious diseases. What a smart family. Three doctors. I feel very good though that this doctor will preform the surgery as we have grea... Fri, 3 Oct 2014 14:06:43 EST Cloudy day this morning Living somewhere where we brag about our constant good weather, it's weird to have so many cloudy days. The good news is that it usually burns off and we have bright afternoons. I am waiting for the showers to stop before I walk the doggies. It's funny when we lived in the Seattle area I never thought about the weather...I would just grab my rain gear and off I would go. But here I don't like the dogs to get soaked and then they really stink. We don't get them a bath too much as the drye... Thu, 2 Oct 2014 10:51:18 EST Just checking in Been busy so haven't blogged everyday. I hope you all are doing well.

DH has a cold so I am running around using hand sanitizer and washing my hands and not touching my face. Last thing I need to do is get sick so I can't travel. So being very careful. Since he is coughing so much I am thinking about wearing my face mask as well. Do you think I am crazy? I am wearing this air cleaner thing around my neck as well. Being on these crazy immune suppressant drugs sure makes you w... Wed, 1 Oct 2014 14:33:05 EST ISIS sure is scary It is just so hard to understand their culture and beliefs. It makes me so sad to hear about the very young who are signing up to 12 years old. I am praying that ISIS can be stopped before any major event.

On a positive note, I am feeling stronger each day and seemed to have brought myself out the flare before it got hold of me.

I haven't written about FIL lately as we are a bit frustrated with him not trying to help himself. He is getting everything po... Mon, 29 Sep 2014 15:16:06 EST Celebrex might have worked When I went to my Rhemy doc on Wednesday complaining of body and joint pain getting worse, she gave me a prescription for Celebrex and told me to use it when needed. So I took it for the last two days when I thought I was going into a full blown flare up and I think it might have prevented it. I am feeling better today and good enough to walk the doggies. So perhaps Celebrex might help as well as just giving in and completely resting. So happy to report that I am feeling better. Thank ... Sun, 28 Sep 2014 11:17:35 EST Our minds sure can be determined. As it turned out yesterday, I ended up on the couch and unable to go to the dinner and show with friends. I just wasn't able to get enough mojo to get out. I found my brain/mind going nuts shouting out things like "you are always the party pooper, and such a loser". It's so hard to quiet that voice in your head. But finally I simply told myself that it just isn't my fault and I needed to just give in and embrace the "quiet time on the couch". I am very fortunate though that I have a wond... Sat, 27 Sep 2014 11:08:10 EST Might be getting a flare up Yesterday it started. I started feeling flu like...burning eyes, muscle aches, tired. It's so hard to tell with this autoimmune just when something is going to be a flare up or something else. I emailed my doctor whom I just saw on Wednesday and at that time was feeling so good. I asked her is there is something I can do to "stop the flare". I am sure she will say nothing and if it's a flare I will have to start taking the prednisone again. Bummer. Not walking the dogs today as I don'... Fri, 26 Sep 2014 11:26:17 EST Busy day today Getting the final things organized for my doctor's appointment. It turns out that I need many things signed or filled out by her to submit to insurance company. Geez it is hard to get paid by insurance companies.

So I will get my dog walk in this morning then will get ready for our big trip down to the city(about an hours trip). will meet with my rhemy doc and then will be meeting with a new dental surgeon to see about getting all four of my wisdom teeth pulled. All four had ... Wed, 24 Sep 2014 10:39:02 EST Love fall and checking out new and returning TV shows. You can tell by the title of this that I am retired. So happy though that some of my shows are back. Love Blacklist, Good Wife, and Big Bang Theory...and more but won't bore you.

Amazing what a good night's sleep will do. Feeling so much better today and have more energy. DH still doing good with me cooking and serving and counting calories for him. Says he isn't hungry.

Not a whole lot else to report today.
Hope yours was a great day.
Have a great eveni... Tue, 23 Sep 2014 18:04:00 EST All three teams won this week end! Yes, what a happy camper I am. All three teams won! I think that's a first. But the Eagles game and the Seahawks games were very close and cliff hangers. The Seahawks even went into overtime.

We had 8 people over for the Seahawks game. One couple was a new couple that I met on my walk with doggies yesterday who are totally new here in Ajijic. I chatted with them and they didn't know anyone and I found out that they were big Husky and Seahawks fans and they were into wine an... Mon, 22 Sep 2014 11:27:26 EST Still working on getting computer all set up I am loving my new computer accept for the fact that I have forgotten how to do some things that are necessary when you live out of the USA. I am trying to set up Google chrome as a browers but it only opens it in Spanish/Mexico. I can't find out how to change it for good. It's funny as I can't even navigate the opening page as it is in Spanish. crazy how that works.

Today I worked all day long on trying to get insurance claims ready for submitting for all the tests, biopsy, et... Sat, 20 Sep 2014 18:31:50 EST Working off my new computer DH worked really hard all day yesterday and last night and got my new computer all set up with files transferred and such. Geez though with just that short time not checking in with sparks I had like 120 emails from them. That's a lot!!! Finally got that all cleared up but now need to catch up on buddies blogs. I will try and do that later on this evening.

On another note. FIL is doing okay but still doesn't have that drive to get better and doesn't do things to work on gettin... Fri, 19 Sep 2014 17:06:27 EST Blogging for my streak I am on our IPad as my DH brought home a new computer for me and is transferring everything and such. he has been working on it all day. anyway I didn't want to lose out on the blogging streak that I have going on.

I do hope you all are doing great. I am chilling out for a little bit after nice facial and before making dinner.

cheers
Sallie Thu, 18 Sep 2014 18:37:14 EST Thank you all for your suggestions for DH. Thank you Blazingsword! She emailed sparks for me and found out that I can open another account using my own email address. This will be fine as I can set it up to private and also check off no mail from sparks. I have to do that as I get a ton of mail from Sparks. Every time I think I have my sparks mail caught up and read a bunch more comes it. I seem to have a lot of followers. Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I got over the first hurdle of having my DH realize that he ha... Wed, 17 Sep 2014 15:46:54 EST Anyone out there use the "family" sparks feature? My DH asked me if I would help him lose weight. He's about 220 and six feet and wants to get down to 185 before the wedding next year in July. So I told him "sure" and am tracking his calories in an old little book designed for tracking. I used to use this little book before I found Sparks. I thought though that Sparks had a family feature where you can track another family member. Anyone know anything about that?

The one thing I did use today to track for him was the add a re... Tue, 16 Sep 2014 17:06:33 EST Bummer about the Seahawks! I couldn't believe how awful they looked against San Diego. My goodness but they looked like anything BUT Super Bowl Champs. I won't even go into the language my DH used while watching. He cracks me would think he was the coach. Anyway there is always next time. The good news is our Washington Huskies did fine on Saturday and killed Illinois.

Tonight is our beloved Eagles who have never won a Super Bowl. They have gotten there twice in my lifetime but had a very pour... Mon, 15 Sep 2014 13:09:34 EST DH coming home today and the Seahawks are onTV here. Yep what a great day for me! I am excited to see my DH but also excited to see the Seahawks. I have it taping as I won't be here when it starts. Will be on my way to the airport. I also noticed that the Miss America program is on tonight so I will set that up to record on the out door living room system.

I wonder how DH will be with me letting the doggies in our casa a bit now that we don't have kitties. They just lay on the tile floor so no harm done. I told him I was doing ... Sun, 14 Sep 2014 11:01:53 EST Question

So my question is were you disciplined as a child with a smack on the butt occasionally when misbehaving? I grew up with the fear of "the fly swatter". If we were really bad we had to get it and Mom gave us a whack or two. Nothing that really hurt or left a mark but it was the process that made us remember not to do what we did again. My girlfriend had to go find her own stick in the woods for her father to wha... Sat, 13 Sep 2014 11:22:02 EST Getting excited that DH is coming home. My DH comes home on Sunday. I will pick him up from the airport as he gets in, in the afternoon while it's still light. He is bringing me some things that I ordered on line that I can't get here.

He will only be here in Ajijic until October 10th when we head to Seattle to visitit number one son and fiancé. We will stay there until the 20th. Then we are coming back to Ajijic and will be here for a couple of weeks before we head to Pennsylvania where other son lives and grandch... Fri, 12 Sep 2014 15:56:44 EST Doggies got into a fight again. I had them out walking our walk this morning and low and behold as I was waiting on the opposite side of the road to let another woman with 3 dogs go by, my big dog attached my little dog. It is awful when they go at each other. But I just dropped their leashes and went to the other side of the road and started walking away from them. I wasn't going to put myself in the middle of it as I didn't want to get bitten like my DH did. Funny thing about it they pulled themselves out of the fight... Thu, 11 Sep 2014 18:22:35 EST Counting my blessings today. The scale has not been nice to me lately. I keep trying to figure out what is going on with my body. I know I can't do well on the low carb thing with meat and veggies as I just don't feel well and have no energy and get the nasty GERD. So I have gone back to my old way that always worked for me to drop a couple of pounds. It's mostly vegetarian. It used to be that I could eat on this plain and drop a few of the pounds that have sneaked on.....but now my body is not reacting like it used... Wed, 10 Sep 2014 12:58:08 EST Family project So I am a bit bummed as I thought I took a "before" photo but I didn't have a "card" in my camera. This photo is a "mid way" photo and not a finished photo of the Watson family painting. We had 15 contributors. The bottom right is granddaughter's hand and the other left side with the big sun/moon (not sure) is grandson's work. There was a ton of white canvas left for me to start filling in. the canvas is large....40" by 30". The tree in the upper right was done by Tommy Jr's fiancé as s... Tue, 9 Sep 2014 15:30:54 EST Ouch! Well as we age we sure don't bounce back as quickly as we would like from taking a fall. I sure fell hard and it seems to have jarred everything. I actually had a hard time sleeping last night as I couldn't get comfortable. It was hard to find a position that didn't put stress on something that got whacked! Seems I jarred my whole body and my butt hurts as well as twisted an ankle, knee and wrist. I fall like this would have been nothing at all when young but I was surprised for someone ... Mon, 8 Sep 2014 10:48:15 EST Sorry link didn't work I am a bit bummed that I can't get the "Add Link" to work here as I really wanted to share the Ajijic video. For those that are really interested to see our little village you can go to my facebook page....Sallie Veser Watson and scroll down and you will see the link posted there. Hope that works.

I am a little bummed as I was doing things in the kitchen this morning moving fast and slid on some wet water and fell on my butt. Hate when that happens. It happens so fast. I feel ... Sun, 7 Sep 2014 11:16:36 EST Good to get together with a dear friend
Really nice time with my dear friend Georgia. we went to a new place that everyone is talking about here in Ajijic. Living in a village when something like a new good restaurant opens word spreads fast. I had salmon which was just so fresh and wonderful and the pesto sauce on top was wonderful. It was really good to catch up with my dear friend. My... Sat, 6 Sep 2014 11:10:16 EST Sad about Joan Rivers I really thought she would pull out of it. Was shocked actually to hear of her passing. So sweet that she said she was happiest when she made people laugh. Laughter is just so good for us. RIP

Quick update on FIL....I am so glad that I found the PT that I did. He studied some in the states and is originally from Spain. His English both spoken and written is awesome. He sends me very detailed reports stating what was accomplished and what the goals are. Right now I have him ... Fri, 5 Sep 2014 11:30:27 EST A big thank you to a sparks buddy! I had mentioned here that I was trying again the AIP diet for people with autoimmune disorders. If you follow me you will know that I tried this before and ended up after 4 days with severe heartburn and ended up getting an endoscopy and diagnosed with GERD and put on drugs to get rid of it. I was on meds for weeks to get it settled down. I went back to my normal eating which mostly is vegetarian. I occasionally eat meat but not most days. And I was feeling fine. Well once again I kept ... Thu, 4 Sep 2014 17:46:51 EST A couple of photos for today Thought I would share step son Tommy's engagement photo. I just think it's the cutest photo. So nice that they both finally found each other. He is 41 and she will turn 40 in November and he is taking her to Europe to celebrate. So nice to be young and in love. They really do suit each other well. DH and I are so thrilled for him. They have picked their venue for the wedding next July. It will be on a Seattle ferry boat that is in retirement and doesn't go out on the water. It is moo... Wed, 3 Sep 2014 12:38:48 EST Still missing my kitties Since my DH has been gone I really notice how much I miss my kitties. they were such awesome company. I am not going to get any new kitties as it makes it easier to travel and not have to worry about them. This is the first time in my life though that I have been without kitties.

So to help with the missing of the kitties I have let my two doggies "cheat" a little and come inside for visits and naps. They think it's real special and they both would love to be lap doggies but ... Tue, 2 Sep 2014 19:56:00 EST Happy Labor Day and first day of September! So where has the year gone? I can't believe it is September all ready. Wow.

Living in Mexico you don't really even know it's Labor day as it isn't celebrated here. But I am going to take the day off anyway (just joking as you all know I am retired). I miss the cook outs and such and days of the past when we did celebrate. I do have a nice steak (grass feed beef with no hormones) for dinner. Hey, you know those 2 pounds that I took off when I started this new AIP(autoimmune di... Mon, 1 Sep 2014 10:57:53 EST Sitting with banana, coconut oil and coconut milk on hair Yep, when DH is away I try new things. I read on line that the combination of those three ingredients is excellent for your since my hair is really dry I decided to give it a try. So I sit here smelling like a yummy treat. It said to let it sit on your hair for like 20 minutes. I decided to get in the steam room after I write this blog to let it soak in deeper. I also thought the steam room would help my aching joints. Isn't it funny how we get into routines and then forget to... Sun, 31 Aug 2014 13:28:18 EST Again did the doggie walk when not feeling like it So glad it is over. I plan to take the rest of the day off and do very little. I will of course prepare meals and do a little laundry but not even going to leave the house. I might even catch a movie or two.

I am pleased to report that the meat and veggie diet I did yesterday must have taken some inflammation out of me as I was down 2 pounds. Will keep it up today.

Talked to my Mom today and she is still very tired which is unusual for her. She had a scan done and sh... Sat, 30 Aug 2014 13:41:52 EST Don't know where my mojo is today. Just one of those days. I really didn't feel like walking the doggies their 4 miles but pushed myself out the door. Of course I felt better afterwards. I then had to get dressed and go to FIL's and leave money to pay the PT. So accomplished that. FIL seemed well today and sitting up in chair. He still isn't eating enough so we discussed that and he said he would try to eat more. But he is only eating like tablespoons of things. Not enough to give him the energy he needs for the PT. ... Fri, 29 Aug 2014 14:51:08 EST FIL is on his way to getting stronger
So yesterday I made up some "motivational" signs to hang in FIL's room. When the PT doctor was there he made a comment about the Food is Medicine sign and said we needed one that said Exercise is I made one of those. Then I made a general sign that simply said You can do it... Thu, 28 Aug 2014 10:51:34 EST Again Many thanks Sparks buddies for your comments. I just love this site. I know I have said this before but I feel I must say it again. I do go to the effort to blog just about every day as it helps me put things into prospective and also get much needed advice and suggestions. I took what many of you said and had an extra magnesium pill and ate a banana last night and slept granted it might have been because I was exhausted from not sleeping the night before but whatever. So nice to get a good night's sleep.

I a... Wed, 27 Aug 2014 10:58:46 EST Restless leg syndrome...any tips So had another restless night with feet and legs hurting and RLS. I took a leg cramp pill and rubbed Icy Hot all over them but nothing seemed to work. Not sure why this is happening again, but it's a pain in the butt. Anyone know anything about this? I will also talk to my doctor about it.

So Sparks must have read my blog yesterday....LOL as they added back into the sparks points 3 points for posting a blog. I bet they had a lot of complaints. but happy they put it back in. <... Tue, 26 Aug 2014 11:24:10 EST Arggg! Some of the things sparks does to their pages make sense and are easy to get used to, but then some drive me crazy. It used to be that there were links down the right hand side of many screens that you could click on to move back and forth between things. now even to get to your own sparks page is tricky. And now no more points for blogs. what's up with that ? I thought it was such a good idea to encourage folks to blog and express themselves. To me it was part of the total "make over".... Mon, 25 Aug 2014 19:15:13 EST Back from visiting FIL when I got there he was being feed by a nurse a piece of cheese cake. I asked Mina the nurse what time tomorrow will the physical therapist be there. She said the doctor wanted to wait another week. This is the new geriatric doctor he just saw a couple of days ago. I was sitting next to FIL and said out loud to Mina that I didn't agree with this. I asked her to talk to one of his other doctors. I said we have been waiting far too long for this and he isn't getting any better. I went on... Sun, 24 Aug 2014 16:53:04 EST Living here you always need your camera

Yes, I find that I see so many fun and different things living here so I always carry my camera. Here is a photo of a "goat jam". We have horse jams, cow jams, chicken jams. Just part of the fun of living in a Mexican village. I do enjoy it here.

This photo reminds me of my neighbors who "over serve" themselves all the time

... Sat, 23 Aug 2014 11:25:49 EST Thank you all for the anniversary wishes. I had a busy day. I ended up meeting with one of FIL's new doctors who practices both homeopathic as well as western med. I was thrilled and he agreed with me that FIL is on too many drugs and getting so many side effects and that is why he has no appetite and dizzy, etc. So he coached the nurse, Mina to taper him off the antidepressant and he is already off the antibiotic. Turns of the antidepressant he is on had all the side effects he is suffering.

Then I made it a mission... Fri, 22 Aug 2014 11:40:22 EST
