MEXGAL1's SparkPeople Blog MEXGAL1's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Getting back into some old bad behaviors And I need to just cut it out!!! In Mexico it's easy not to keep junk foods in the house as they are so expensive and we just don't buy them so they don't tempt me....but here at the kids house they have sooooo much junk. Tons of it. My DIL is awful about keeping things on hand that really shouldn't be eating. I feel bad for Lyla as it constantly temps her and she is always asking for junk. I have been indulging as well and it makes me feel not up to speed. so I have had it and no more.... Thu, 12 Nov 2015 10:11:26 EST Great time at 45th Reunion <img src=" Mon, 9 Nov 2015 10:13:02 EST Boots found Lyla's Mommy admitted to hiding them as Lyla is so hard on shoes/boots and the weather has been so nice that her Mommy didn't want her wearing them. too funny.

Tonight is my highschool 45th class reunion. Where does time go? It doesn't start until 7pm. Hope I can stay away...LOL. My DH is me. He doesn't want me driving alone at night. Such a nice guy. He is just thankful that I am willing to go alone so he doesn't have to be bored.

Hope you all have a great week ... Sat, 7 Nov 2015 12:00:27 EST Case of the dissappearing new boots. So we bought granddaughter new boots. She wore them out to play but then got in trouble as she and her girlfriend were ringing doorbells and then running away. So I had to go over and get her and send her to her room. She had them on then. She is supposed to put them in the laundry room. We have searched everywhere and can't find them. in closets, under beds, outside on gone, can't seem to find them

So how many of you have had things just walk off. Aliens from Ma... Thu, 5 Nov 2015 16:38:47 EST Loving being with the grandkids. Thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions regarding grandson, Sean's constant coughing. His parents said that they did talk to his doctor and they did a blood test and he is allergic to apples, peaches and some other fruits. They said that he gets this way during spring and fall mostly. So at least it gives me some comfort that it's not a cold. We gave him a little over the counter allergy cough syrup and it seemed to help. I like the idea of giving him a tablespoon full of local hone... Wed, 4 Nov 2015 09:37:45 EST Grandson and constant coughing. So having an autoimmune disease and taking immune suppressants is a pain in the butt when you have a loving grandson who coughs constantly. We are pretty sure it's allergies. It is so hard for me to relax around him as I am soooo afraid of getting sick. He is 9 years old so we just had this great conversation and I told him all about my disease and how the medicines lower my immune system and that is why I am so careful not to get sick. He was so cute. He said that on the meds I have an ... Tue, 3 Nov 2015 09:56:10 EST Great Halloween fun! <img src=" Sun, 1 Nov 2015 10:35:09 EST Hurricane Pat

We not only "survived" the hurricane, but we didn't even lose electricity. Go figure! So many times here in Mexico we will lose power over nothing and here it was a hurricane and we didn't. As you can see we all prepared the best we could bringing things inside and tying things down. Then the 3 couples here on the mountain(the mountain people) together for a hurricane party. we ha... Sat, 24 Oct 2015 11:36:03 EST Father-in-law For those of you who have been through this you know how hard it is when you are losing someone dear to you. My father-in-law is still hanging on but refusing to eat. He drinks a little water but not much else. His daughter is here from California which is really a good thing for my husband as support. On Thursday it was my DH's birthday so we took a cake over to FIL's room. Mina, my friend and owner of the nursing home set out some snacks and we had a small "party" in his room. They ar... Sun, 18 Oct 2015 10:44:43 EST long time no blog Been very distracted with my father-in-law. For those of you that follow me, you know my father-in-law had back surgery two years ago now. We have done everything to try and get him to work at getting well but he just didn't try. We are now at the stage where he is passing away. We had last rites administered yesterday. He is only eating a little yogurt and that is it. very weak. who knows how long he will be with us but he is ready to go and we have respected that. We are keeping him... Wed, 14 Oct 2015 19:42:57 EST Been a while since I blogged. Well, let's see again today we only have half the house with power. My DH goes crazy. I will be happy when we get through our final testimony of the stupid law suit that has been going on now for 5 years so that he can travel whenever he wants. that way he can spend more time up north living with the grandkids. I can just let the no electricity thing go and realize that it's something of which I have no control over and when it happens, I count my other blessings. Like the beautiful weat... Fri, 25 Sep 2015 10:59:10 EST Catching up with photos about a week ago went out with neighbors who kept talking about this new place that has awesome ribs. so we finally went. but wow, as you can see by the was a huge plate of ribs. but so yummy and hardly any fat. I ate about 3 of them and rest came home for dinner for my DH the next day. but as always good fun with neighbors and loved the new place.
hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday. Make it a great day.
Sallie
Oh and my ribs were like $7 us Tue, 15 Sep 2015 11:04:00 EST Finally Seahawk Sunday...the season has begun! I was a busy, busy gal. My DH kept inviting more people over for the kick off of the football season and the first Seahawks game and therefore I crocheted like crazy so that each of the 16 people would have either a hat(made 14) or headband. Did them all in the Seahawk colors of blue and green. Even though our team lost we all had a great time.
Hope you all have a great week.
Sallie
... Mon, 14 Sep 2015 12:59:26 EST Busy day Went to Home Depot and got supplies to hang our big Eagles and Seahawks flags...and got all the burgers and brats and rolls and such. should be a fun time. yeah football season. going to these places is a full takes about an hour from our little village to get to GDL where these stores are.

I crocheted the whole time so it helped the time go by quicker. I am finishing one more Seahawk hat to have one for all our guests on Sunday. I hope the photo for kick off of Seah... Fri, 11 Sep 2015 19:22:52 EST Getting ready for football season So my DH has now invited over 16 people for football kick off season beginning with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. I have enough hats and/or headbands for all so it should make for some fun photos. The problem is that the darn teams keep changing the green of their teams uniforms. I think they do that so that they can sell more of the "stuff" to fans. Anyway I started with one color of green and then it switched but that's okay we will all have blue and green anyway. And I like the gree... Wed, 9 Sep 2015 10:18:43 EST Sure am exercising my hands!! I know that sounds funny, but with my Sjogren's syndrome, I have connective tissue disorder and pain in hands and feet. the pain management doctor told me that it is really important for me to exercise my hands and feet. So I took up crocheting. I don't really do anything complicated just things that I can do while watching TV. But I put in about 3 hours off and on all day. I can't begin to tell you how many Seahawk colored hats and Eagle colored hats I have made. and I have made many, ... Mon, 7 Sep 2015 12:42:06 EST New necklace We have so many artists here in our village. I have noticed that I have been drawn to wearing teal and brown recently. I saw this necklace and earrings and had to have them...LOL I had fun wearing them out to dinner the other night. Went to dinner with my dear friend Georgia. I have known her now for over 11 years. We are still such dear friends. Isn't it wonderful when you really "click" with someone and get along very well? Her DH though has been getting grumpier and grumpier as he ... Sun, 6 Sep 2015 11:18:51 EST Happy Thrusday they call it Throw back Thursday.
So for today, Thursday's Throw back Thursday, I scanned a photo of the swim team I was on as a kid. This was taken when I was around 11 or 12. I took the main photo and digitally blew it up and cut it into two photos... Thu, 3 Sep 2015 19:17:56 EST Have you heard of Hibiscus tea?

weight-loss.html

So at the pool party this week end the hostess had a big container of red tea. I asked her about it and she said it's a typical Mexican tea made out of Hibiscus flower that is common down here. She said that it is very healthy for you. So I went and bought a big bag of the dried flowers and made myself some yesterday. I had tried hers at the party and loved the flavor.

so anyway went on line... Tue, 1 Sep 2015 10:53:37 EST Fun time yesterday at friends pool party

Great fun at friend's home yesterday. It was one where the hosts grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and then we all contributed dishes to go with them. I got up early and made a big crock pot full of old fashioned ... Mon, 31 Aug 2015 11:12:32 EST Fun Fashion Show yesterday

I had a wonderful time modeling yesterday at the Ladies of the Lake luncheon. The clothes I modeled were made by local Mexican women who learn skills so that they can make a living and improve their situations. ... Sat, 29 Aug 2015 10:15:55 EST Another fashion show today I have been asked again to model. This time it's for a really good cause. I am modeling clothes that are made by local Mexican women and sold in a little boutique. The women who make the clothes are usually women who are in a bad situation and they are taught to sew and make clothes to earn money to improve their situations. So I am happy to help out. I just heard from the woman organizing the show and she has asked me if I would go out first. I told her "no problem". It's funny I gues... Fri, 28 Aug 2015 10:40:44 EST Planned splurges I find now that I am in maintenance I can plan a splurge and totally enjoy it. This is such a blessing knowing that I can have something I desire and not feel guilty or afraid that it will lead to a full out binge that I have a hard time recovering from.

Our neighbor and friend, who's wife has been away for a month(due to brother passing), normally eats low carb. He and his wife have been doing this for years. The thing is that we have watched them continue to put the pounds on.... Wed, 26 Aug 2015 10:55:15 EST Very Interesting article I rarely post things that are political but this article touched me this morning.

My family came from humble backgrounds. My grandparents on my father's side were immigrants coming through Ellis Island. My grandfather died when my father and his brothers were young and the three boys went to school but also worked to support their mother who had diabetes and had lost a leg(eventually both).

My mother's mother was a single mother who raised 4 children by opening thei... Tue, 25 Aug 2015 11:01:22 EST Without power yesterday We woke up without power yesterday no internet. Around 6 am there was a big boom so another transformer blew. It's amazing how dependent we are on our creature comforts such as TV and internet. My DH and I sat and read our Kindles(good thing both were charged). It sure was peaceful and quiet. We could have started the generator but we just wanted the quiet. So glad though that it came back on in time to watch the golf tournament. We had invited our neighbor and friend over... Mon, 24 Aug 2015 10:21:57 EST Lovely evening for anniversary. For some reason I have been very took a lot to get going yesterday...I still walked the dog her 4 miles but it was tough. But I pushed threw and once I got showered and dressed I started getting some of my mojo. We invited our neighbor and dear friend go out and celebrate our anniversary with us as his wife is still away in Canada. He brother did pass and now she is staying on to help her sister-in-law.

we went to our favorite steak house that many of you have seen ph... Sat, 22 Aug 2015 11:06:46 EST 27 years ago today! I married a terrific man and his boys. I went through my photo album from that day this morning and had some good memories from the day. We had 85 people on a yacht on Lake Union Seattle. It was a beautiful day. The Yacht went all around Lake Washington with Mt Rainer in the background. Hope you enjoy them as well. And yes ladies big sleeves were in. LOL
Hope you all have a terrific weekend.
Sallie
<img src=" Fri, 21 Aug 2015 13:28:43 EST Counting my blessings One of my greatest blessings is having all of you sparks friends out there. For sure I never feel alone. And I learn so much and get such good suggestions. Thank you all for your well wishes for my esophagitis. I count my blessing that at least I am not in a major flare where I am completely bed ridden. At least with this, I still walk my 4 miles and move around.

One thing for sure when I get this is that I miss my coffee or tea in the morning. They are "no nos" and can aggra... Wed, 19 Aug 2015 10:20:16 EST A bit bummed. Not sure why but my esophagitis is back with a vengeance. I was lucky and when I was away for all the celebrations and such it didn't bother me. I really haven't changed anything. But boy, oh boy does it burn in my chest and throat. I started back up on the meds but also made an appointment with the doctor for Monday to see if there are other meds I might take on a regular basis to keep it at bay.

Anyone out there have GERD, etc and taking anything that works?

Kin... Tue, 18 Aug 2015 19:27:41 EST Feeling lunch other day was not worth it So on Friday I went to the Ladies of the Lake luncheon. This is a group of ladies(now upwards of 100) who take over a restaurant to try different places but more importantly to meet new folks living here in Ajijic. I have met many nice ladies through this group...and of course a few who have a feeling of "self-importance", if you get my drift.

Anyway, this is the time I save for my two light beers. they weren't the problem on Friday, nor was the food particularly(brought most ... Sun, 16 Aug 2015 12:20:59 EST Loved all the responses to yesterday's blog Thank you to all who chimed in yesterday. Many good points made. I agree that each of us is different and our "drug of choice" is different for each and everyone of us. I love that tortise110 said that honesty is so important. For sure we can't help ourselves if we lie to not only ourselves but others. To stand up and take responsibility for our weaknesses doesn't make us weak, to me it makes us even stronger! I applaud those who say right up front..."I can't have that, as it will trigg... Fri, 14 Aug 2015 10:33:18 EST Having to admitt you are an addict. My DH tapes the show Extreme weight loss. I really like the show as it shows a whole year of someone's life and how they lose weight. Recently they had a woman on who admitted openly that she was a food addict. She didn't pull any punches and said that she fell prey to binging and just couldn't understand why she did it. she felt so guilty. she knew she had to do something and went to a therapist. It was there I believe she learned that the things she binges on are caused by a chemical ... Thu, 13 Aug 2015 19:24:13 EST Someone stoled my mojo! Don't you just hate it when you wake up tired? It really takes a big effort on my part to just put those work out clothes on and sneakers and push myself out the door. Today I wanted to use every excuse I could to not walk Morgan the dog for her 4 miles. But took it one step at a time....put those work out clothes on, then the sneakers and then pushed myself out the door. So managed to get the 4 miles in and feel good that I pushed myself.

Now I am not really feeling like doi... Wed, 12 Aug 2015 13:15:42 EST Now wedding photos So now for some actual wedding photos. I ended up wearing the top that I recently modeled here in Ajijic for a very creative designer here. She said she made it with me in mind. I wore it with the plazio(sp) pants that almost look like a long black skirt. these were the same ones I wore way back when our other son got married 12 years ago. I had a wonderful time at the wedding. I even stayed up way past my bedtime dancing the night away.
Hope you all have a terrific week.
Sa... Mon, 10 Aug 2015 13:29:04 EST Rehearsal Dinner To continue with updating you all with photos of all the activates I am posting about the rehearsal dinner. It was supposed to be held outside at the bride's parents home on Lake Washington. They have a lovely home and it was supposed to be a garden dinner. The young couple picked this particular date for all the ceremonies as it statistically rain free. It hadn't rained on this day or the wedding day for 55 years. But low and behold, after having so much sun in Seattle for the whole su... Sat, 8 Aug 2015 13:20:25 EST Catching up with blogs So I am back and still trying to catch up with unpacking and organizing and such after being away so long.

I know many of you know about my health challenges with the Sjogren's and it's insistence to try and upset my life....but I am winning!! I refused to give in while away. I was prepared and had all the "stuff" to take care of the symptoms that kept creeping up and trying to ruin all the festivities. I managed my pain by continuing to keep up with the crocheting everyday an... Fri, 7 Aug 2015 16:03:35 EST Off to Seattle Onward to all the wedding festivities! I hear that the bride is going a bit nuts pulling everything together. I offered to help but she likes to do it all. My DH told me he is having a hard time "bonding" with her as she is a bit of a control freak. the other night the sink in the kitchen had a leak. my dh diagnosed the problem and was on his way to home depot to get supplies and she told him to let it go as she called her dad. my dh doesn't think she trusts him. that is so weird as my... Tue, 14 Jul 2015 10:44:39 EST Mina's web site

So we finally finished Mina's website. It was fun working with Mina and a the wonderful gal who put this together. Let me know what you think.

I am all packed and ready to head out tomorrow for the festivities in Seattle. Going to be very busy.
Cheers everyone!
Sallie Mon, 13 Jul 2015 15:20:43 EST Interesting Link So excited about this link. This is where I live!!! This segment was shown on PBS TV. Mina's(my friend the nurse and owner of the nursing home where FIL lives) web site is just about done. I will share as soon as it is complete. I have decided to become a Senior Care Advisor like what my friend does in the Seattle area. With 10,000 Americans becoming 60 per day, I think we will see even more folks wanting to spend their "golden years" here. Since I know the area(10 years living here) a... Fri, 10 Jul 2015 10:32:36 EST Yeah USA! What a terrific game 4 goals in the first 16 minutes. We had friends over to watch the game and have steaks on the grill. BTW is beef expensive in the states? My DH and I went to Costco to get good rib eye steaks and were shocked to see how much they cost. it was like $100 for 4. But they were large. My DH grilled them just right. I hadn't eaten meat in like months so it really tasted good to me. I feel full still this morning. didn't gain so must have eaten the right amount.
<... Mon, 6 Jul 2015 10:28:52 EST Nice lunch yesterday with Ladies of the Lake
There were about 70 of us ladies this time. I always try and sit at a table where I can meet new people. I know many ladies sit with the same gals all the time, but I like meeting new interesting people. Had a great time.

I did some networking for Mina at the lunch and handed out several of her... Sat, 27 Jun 2015 10:47:50 EST Happy Father's Day to any Dads out there in sparksville

We went out to visit with FIL today for Father's Day. We had told the nurses it would be good to get him in his wheelchair and wheel him where there was good internet so we could call his daughters who were waiting for us to call. So when we got there they were putting him in his wheelchair. We got to call each of his daughters but after only 15 minutes or so he start throwing up so they ... Sun, 21 Jun 2015 18:58:08 EST checking in. Still feel like I am stuck so I decided to switch it up and went out and bought lots of veggies and some tofu. I made a stir fry with it and ate it on my tortilla napals. Filled me up and satisfied me. I went on line this morning to review again anti-inflammatory diets. I am going to try and stick to that and see if that helps move things. So eating totally clean for a few days.

Not much else to report. I do hope you all are having a great week end.
Enjoy!
Sallie Sat, 20 Jun 2015 16:25:54 EST Big storm this morning
These photos are taken by our next door neighbor's weather station. Fri, 19 Jun 2015 11:15:54 EST A bit dicouraged but not giving in I thought I ate really light yesterday...calories say so but was up in weight. yep I know salt, etc can have an impact but really didn't expect a gain. I only had air popped popcorn for dinner with butter spray(without calories and salt)..and a 90 calorie fiber one bar. Oh well not going to give up. going to keep the faith and do the right thing.

So this is my short checking in as I committed to do everyday. really want to get those cushion pounds off before heading to Seattle... Thu, 18 Jun 2015 10:16:40 EST Good eating day yesterday I am happy to report that I stayed in line yesterday eating out with my friend. I had a tossed salad with chicken and asked for the dressing on the side. The salad was so delicious that I didn't need the dressing. And then for dinner had my yogurt and fruit. so not bad.

My friend has a rough road ahead. Her DH admits that it was all his smoking and eating wrong that caused his throat cancer. He is now on a feeding tube but still gets out and about. He has obviously lost weig... Wed, 17 Jun 2015 12:01:43 EST Stayed within calorie range yesterday As promised to myself...blogging everyday to keep me honest.

I stayed well within my calorie range yesterday but I think too much salt in canned veggie soup. so need to make homemade if I am to eat it. Isn't it a pain in the butt as we age how slow our metabolism gets. Just not fair!

I have a lunch out today with a dear friend who's DH is in stage 4 throat cancer. I really didn't want to eat out but I want to support her through such a hard time. I will order salad ... Tue, 16 Jun 2015 10:13:23 EST Slipping into some old bad habits So have any of you found that you have been maintaining just fine for years and then you slowly start into some old bad habits? I have no idea why I am slowly doing some things that I haven't done in snacking between my meals. I haven't done that in years but have been doing that. and with complete crap. My DH buys things "for him" to have around to snack on and they are calling my name. Stuff with way too much salt and sugar....and the whole cycle thing starts ... Fri, 12 Jun 2015 17:57:21 EST Scary travels Going to Seattle I was held up in Houston an extra 5 hours and coming home the trip took 24 hours. To say I was tired was an understatement. If you watch the news you will see that I was in the middle of a record breaking storm. My cell phone knew where I was and kept sending me notices of tornado warnings and flash floods. I had flights canceled and then got onto one flight that stayed at the gate for 3 hours but we were not allow off the plane as they wouldn’t let us on the runway due... Wed, 27 May 2015 13:01:56 EST
