MCDEANE52's SparkPeople Blog MCDEANE52's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Sad for me but happy for Mom... Hi friends. I had to let you all know that I lost my mom yesterday. She was 79 and until a year or so before her death was in good health. She developed severe dementia but still knew us (my sister, brothers and me).
My sister had taken her from Columbus, OH to Dallas, TX to live with her and she was in and out of the hospitals for various things. Luckily, she was at Kathy's house when she went to bed and died sometime in the night. What a peaceful way to go.
Mom always t... Sat, 26 Mar 2011 14:53:21 EST It's Been a Long Time... Hi friends,
It's been a very long time since I've been online and even longer since I've blogged. But I have to tell you what's been going on.

Last time I was on my Ron and I were living in a trailer in Albany, OH. Turned out our neighbors were regular monsters. We couldn't wait to leave there. In our wanderings we took an "Ohio Byway" shortcut and came across this house we're in.

We are in amongst the forest and have hills on all sides of us. We are on... Thu, 3 Mar 2011 14:49:50 EST So close ~ yet so far away.... Hi friends,
Although there are many things that fit the title of this, the one I am referring to is reaching my goal. I've been hovering between 173# and 168# for 6 months now and my goal, 165#, is laughing at me. But I WILL get there, of that I am sure. Just not sure which month it will be in.
In my personal life, my mom moved away ~ half way across the United States ~ and I really miss seeing her! I know in my brain that she's better off and has WAY more help, which she ... Mon, 2 Aug 2010 19:05:36 EST Hey Y'all, It's Really Me..... Hi friends,

Has it been a long time or what? I've been around, just not on the computer. And I wanted to, while I AM here, tell you all that I miss you ~ a lot. Now, I'm not saying that I'll be on here every day, but what I am saying is that I will start trying to. ;)

I haven't gone to my weight tracker yet but I am at 170#, just 5 short of my goal. I won't say that I've been perfect in that department, if I had I would be WAY under my goal. There are months when m... Tue, 8 Jun 2010 18:37:32 EST It's Been a Long Time..... Hi friends,

I hardly know what to say, it's been such a long time since I've blogged. I've been reading a lot and playing the silly games (but I LOVE 'em) on Facebook and just hanging out with the family.

Well, Shady, my Akita 'son', is doing pretty well on his phenobarbitol. He's tired a lot and takes lots of naps but if someone comes to the door, he's johnny on the spot! LOL And, best of all, he hasn't had anymore seizures! Thank You, God!

Ron a... Sat, 5 Dec 2009 02:16:29 EST Another One Bites the Dust.... Hi all,

I haven't blogged for a while as I've been settling in. But yesterday was my monthly weigh-in and I just HAD to let y'all know that I lost another pound! YEEHAW!!! So now I'm 8 pounds from goal ~ and I must tell you, I never thought I could do it! It's just something about this Spark deal that is like magic for me.

Okay, enough with that, I have another piece of this blog that is just as fitting to the title as the first part was. You know that I moved t... Tue, 13 Oct 2009 13:07:43 EST What Up Wi' Dat??? ;-) Hi all,

I've had some thoughts rolling around in the vast empty expanses of my brain 135 and I thought I would get shed of them by putting them here. Thanks for reading it.

Since moving to the country, and in spite of the fact I have to move again as this place won't be here, my mindset has really changed. I started using the computer back in July of 2006 and ever since I've been doing one thing or another every day. Now, living out in nature, my comput... Sun, 20 Sep 2009 13:02:40 EST Bummer! I Have to Move Again.... Hi all,

I just went to pay the landlord the rent, the 3rd one, and he informed me that as of "very soon", he'll be getting rid of both the mobile homes he has on this lot. He intends to build a duplex and raise the rent. Come On! A DUPLEX? In the COUNTRY? Oh, no, he doesn't! I'll move first and find somewhere else where I'm not attached to someone else's home!

I'm NOT depressed by this, I know it's only temporary, but I am bummed out for a minute. LOL I alr... Fri, 4 Sep 2009 19:24:18 EST Two Great Days in a Row! Hi all,

I've had a couple of great days and I wanted to share with you all. Yesterday a friend of mine that I hadn't seen in 40 years and her husband came to our house. I had such a wonderful time trying to catch up on the years! And both she and her husband are SUCH nice people, it was a fantastic visit!

Today, my Ron and I went fishing at Lake Snowden, which is about 5 miles from the house. I got some well-needed walking in as well as my 'green' thing I always ... Mon, 24 Aug 2009 22:19:36 EST Dollar Store Reading Glasses Are Better Than None.... Hi Y'all,

I wanted to update my last blog and let you know that I took the trek to Family Dollar today for reading glasses. Family DOLLAR? I think not! They were $6.00, but worth every penny! LOL

I'm an avid reader and I love my computer time so there was no choice in the matter, I HAD to have 'em and I'm glad I got 'em. hehe

You'll see me around ~ wearing my dollar store glasses! And I'll see you, too, thanks to them.

Hugs,
Sandy Sat, 22 Aug 2009 17:48:07 EST Oh My Gosh! My GLASSES broke! Hi all,

I went to bed last night and put my glasses on the coffee table and this morning when I got up they were broken. I mean the metal part is broken. Worst part is that I won't be able to replace them till September.
You ought to see (I would post the pic if I had the nerve~LOL) me now. I'm wearing my previous pair and they're "granny glasses" for sure! LMAO!!! They're BIG, like 70's big, and they look like hippy glasses. That's okay, I am an old hippy but my e... Fri, 21 Aug 2009 15:03:27 EST Death in the Family..... Hi all,

Just had to get this off my chest and onto paper (so to speak). Thanks in advance for readin' it.

My Ron's nephew, Charlie, passed away night before last. He was only 24, WAY too young to die. But Charlie never knew anything but the "hood" in Columbus, OH. He was 10 when I met him and he was a normal boy. His 11 year old brother, Rojo, has down syndrome so Charlie was like a big brother to him. Their dad died when Charlie was 14, which left them with their ... Wed, 5 Aug 2009 17:33:44 EST Can I Get More Relaxed? Hi all,
As you all know I've been pretty much inactive for quite a while now and it was really getting to me. But one of my teams ran a thread that really made me think and now I'm seeing things a lot differently, but in a good way.
I was on the verge of overwhelmed with my email, my teams, moving, etc. but I did a couple of things to diffuse that overwhelmed feeling. I went to my email preferences here on Spark and stopped all my notifications thus cutting my email load by a ... Sun, 26 Jul 2009 22:44:23 EST I Gotta Miss My GHI Marathon! :-( Hi all,
I just wanted to come here and tell y'all that I'm moved in ~ the stuff isn't situated yet. We moved from a 4 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom mobile home so it's stuff, stuff and more stuff! I guess I'm gonna go the Craig's List route, maybe make a buck on some of it.
Anyway, I'm sore as heck as I ran out of my pain meds and Ron's stamina is GONE with his emphysema so I had to just work on, which hasn't been easy with only one arm that works. But, in spite of the major p... Tue, 7 Jul 2009 19:38:29 EST Going Offline For a Few Days... Hi All,
I thought I would come here and let you know that the move is nearly complete, 3 more days of it and we'll be in there this coming Friday. So, as of Wednesday, I'll be offline until I get hooked up at the new place. I have them coming on the 2nd to hook up the service. So I will be back online on probably Saturday, the 4th, and by Sunday, the 5th at the latest.
I'll be thinking of you guys and drinking all my water and, Lord knows, I'm getting plenty of fitness. LOL ... Sun, 28 Jun 2009 22:18:12 EST Ahead of Schedule...... Hi friends,
I thought I would let you know that nearly all the small stuff is packed and in boxes waiting to be taken by car down to the new place. We're ahead of schedule on that thanks to my Ron. Him getting that blood and taking his meds really has made a difference!
Now that I have stacks of boxes, crates and mesh bags, all I have to do is somehow come up with the money for gas to get there and back about 5 times. But I'm an inventive person, I'm not EVEN worried, I know ... Mon, 22 Jun 2009 20:13:55 EST Oh Heavenly Day!!!

I had to come here and let y'all know how happy I am to have Derek, my grandson, here visiting Grandpa and me. And, as you can see, Shady dearly loves him, too!

Tonight, our first night, we're gonna relax and watch a movie or 2 but tomorrow we're starting in earnest to pack and get this stuff moved! Derek is a VERY sweet-natured kid and he loves and respects his Grandma and Grandpa, which is a rare thing ... Fri, 12 Jun 2009 19:36:37 EST Finally ~ A Place in the Country!!!! Hi all,
I thought I would come here and let you all know that all your good thoughts and prayers came in mighty handy. We finally found a place.
It's a trailer, but it's in good shape, 2 bedroom with all electric. The yard is BIG, which was one of the things I wanted, plenty of room for a garden, my Shady and a clothesline! WOOHOO!!!!
It's about 2 miles outside a very small town. We stayed in the same county we're in now, only at the southern end, where the hills are ... Fri, 5 Jun 2009 18:49:02 EST Up Close and Personal.... Hi all,

I wanted to share with you what happened here on my front lawn this morning. We have a big tree and 2 squirrels live in the base of it. Well, this morning I had to go to the store and when I returned Ron was putting Shady out but he signalled me to stop. He pointed to the front section of the lawn and there, in all it's glory, was a BIG Red-Tailed Hawk. Ron said the bird had swooped down when he was on his way to Shady's tie-out and grabbed one of the resident squirre... Fri, 29 May 2009 18:11:20 EST Oh I Love a Rainy Night..... Or should I say day? LOL I'm sitting here gathering points listening to the rain and thunder as it rolls back and forth between these wonderful hills. I don't know why but my whole life I've loved thunderstorms. Hmmm.....wonder if I'm warped? ~grin~

I may just be, the 2 things I most wanted to be when I was a kid were a storm chaser and an astronomer! One thing can be said, I keep my eyes ever upward ~ in more ways than one.

Hope you're enjoying your day as much as ... Tue, 26 May 2009 16:24:48 EST Found the Problem..... Hi All,
I thought I would come here and let you all know that we finally found out why Ron lost all that blood. Not only does he have an infection in his stomach, he has a slowly bleeding ulcer. It's bleeding so slowly that it was impossible to see it in his stool and it took about a year for 4 pints to leak out.
So he's on strong antibiotics and he's decided to make a BIG change in his life ~ he's giving up drinking! He's 56 and has been drinking since he was 11 so he has qu... Sat, 23 May 2009 20:16:40 EST Nearly Perfect..... Hi there!
It's so nice to be posting this on a quick computer! What a difference it makes. That part of my life is perfect......but I still have one little problem.
I haven't gotten a single email notification from Spark since the beginning of March. I subscribe to lots of blogs and I don't know when they are ready. There are many discussions in the teams I'm in and I don't know when a new thread starts. I don't get any point emails.
All this is making it kind of r... Mon, 18 May 2009 11:46:52 EST Me? A Motivator? But..... Hello, all,
I wanted to bring you all up to speed on a couple of fronts before I tackle the Motivator part.

First, Ron is feeling a LOT better since they gave him those 4 units of blood. He actually has color to his face, which is so nice to see. They are in the process of giving him lots of tests to find out where that hemoglobin loss is. So far he had an "upper bowel follow-up", their way of saying Ron had to drink 2 glasses of chalky, milky stuff. This while he wa... Fri, 15 May 2009 00:14:02 EST An Update to my Friends Hello,
I wanted to come here and let you know that I was unable to buy the computer, bills came up. I won't be able to get one till the stimulus checks are mailed. I did find out that they will be mailed by the last week in May. And, OMG, I await, with bated breath, the day when I can finally get a new computer ~ one that actually works.
Not a day goes by that I don't think of y'all and wish I could get back to active. I hope that will happen very soon. But I did think I ow... Mon, 13 Apr 2009 20:17:02 EST Failing ~ Yes?, No?..... I'm waiting till I get this done to give it a title as I'm debating on how to proceed. Okay, since y'all are my friends and really want the best for me (that's one of the BEST things about Spark, don't you think?) I'm just gonna say it. I feel like I'm failing here. I don't mean "the weight loss", I'm still drinking my 12 a day in water, doing my 60 minutes a day in fitness and eating right. As a matter of fact I went to the doctor today and didn't gain any weight. LOL, I didn't LOSE any... Fri, 20 Mar 2009 22:21:07 EST I'm Resigned..... Hi All!
Well, after weeks of trying to catch up on my emails, most of which are Spark, I've come to the conclusion that I just have to be satisfied with what I CAN do! I've been beating myself up over something I can't do anything about and that's wrong. I must concentrate on the positives I am able to do and not on uncontrollable situations. So I'm just going to do them as I can and I QUIT being mad at me for not doing more. All I can do is all I can do, I must remember this.
... Fri, 6 Mar 2009 21:53:28 EST I'm Resigned.....
Well, I'm still on this slow computer. I must really be hard on them. I think it's because I've never had a new one and by the time I get them the processors have already been put through the wringer so my demands must just burn them out! LOL

Tomorrow I'm going to the library and use their fast computer! So I will get all the blogs read, all the point emails done, all the threads caught up. OMG, that will be so wonderful! I will be so happy about that and will try to stay cau... Tue, 3 Mar 2009 18:45:58 EST Whew! Not Enough Hours in the Day...... Hi friends!
I wanted to come here and tell you all that I am not ignoring you, I just cannot get caught up with my emails, 80% of which are Spark! I do surveys, which sometimes pay, and I'm even behind on them. For one thing I'm just getting over cellulitis in my nose. While it was at it's height I couldn't wear my glasses because my whole face was swollen. I looked a lot like Jimmy Durante because my nose was as red and big as his was. LOL Anyway, I'm on the mend with that and I... Fri, 27 Feb 2009 20:05:32 EST 9-11 Journal ~ Part 22 For those of you who haven't read any of my journal on 9-11, this will be a strange blog. If you read it and it interests you, please check back toward the beginning of my blogging, that's where I started it.

Monday - December 17, 2001
Dow Jones Up 80 points. As y'all know, I'm both a Stephen King fan and a Ghost Hunters fan but what you may not know is that I'm also an avid Nascar fan. I especially root for Tony Stewart and have for the past 11 years now, ever since he started out in 1997. Today is the culmination of what they call "Daytona Week" (yes, it's in capitals! hehe). Today is the Daytona 500! The first of 36 races.
So now, not only do I look very for... Sun, 15 Feb 2009 15:03:51 EST One Year on Spark! Hi All!
I would have been remiss had I not blogged on this milestone for me. I've been plugging away now for a whole year, making changes IN my brain and getting healthier as each day passes. I'm into the water now and I know what size portions are. I'm also actually getting off the computer chair or couch to get fitness in every day.
But the biggest change in my life has been the confidence I've gained by being here. I didn't even know what a blog WAS, much less write one. ... Sat, 14 Feb 2009 09:01:21 EST Circle of Friends....... Hi All!
As usual, I'm sitting here at my 'puter, thinking weird thoughts. LOL But I was thinking, isn't it strange how you get into certain teams where you "feel at home" and you're a part of things but yet you may join another team and feel none of those welcoming feelings and you just don't meet anyone? I have 5 teams that I feel a part of, and a majority of my friends have come from those teams, although thanks to you who read my blogs, I've met yet more people I respect and c... Fri, 13 Feb 2009 16:20:50 EST WOOHOO, the power stayed!!! Hi All!
Oh, my, we really had a storm go through last night and all through the daylight hours today! The first line of high wind came through about 6:30pm and I thought for sure we would be without power, something would blow down. But, although the wind was VERY strong for hours, I was able to watch my normal Wednesday Ghost Hunters! The "Ghost Hunter room" used to be a porch and the wind was so hard I could feel the room swaying. A very strange sensation for sure.
Today w... Thu, 12 Feb 2009 21:33:55 EST Uh-Oh......Tornado Watch! I thought I had better write this before the power goes out! Here in southeastern Ohio the temperature is up around 67, which is too springlike for February. They're calling for "tropical storm" winds and on our cable system they're running all the counties under this tornado watch. Of course, my county is in that group, as is the county where my family lives. But they're in a city and I'm hoping they don't lose power.

But here in this dinky little town they're not so professio... Wed, 11 Feb 2009 15:08:57 EST I've Soooo Branched Out..... Hi All!

I just got off the phone to my library and I got to thinking, since I've been on Spark and in the teams I'm in I have really branched out in so many ways! Before I joined, I was a Stephen King 'snob', I wouldn't read anybody else. LOL So I started a team on it and we have a SK Book of the Month Club so I am reading even more of him but I also lead the Ghost Hunters Fans team and we also have a BOMC. We recently revamped it to include fiction but I am now not only read... Mon, 9 Feb 2009 11:33:37 EST 95% Good ~ 5% Bad..... Hi All!
Well, the weather has finally broken here in southeastern Ohio and my Ron and I took full advantage of it. We live about 55 miles from the Ohio River and the new bridge between Pomeroy, OH and Mason, WV. So we drove that and stopped by our friends house and then went to her brother's. While we were there, Ron stayed and talked to him while his wife and I took a 35 minute hike. And this was in very hilly terrain, too, so it really got the ol' ticker going good!
On t... Sun, 8 Feb 2009 22:28:12 EST I Been Blog Readin'..... Hi all! As a number of you already know, I subscribe to over a dozen blogs and I was so far behind that this morning I read 11 blogs.

It is unbelievable how much you can learn by reading others' blogs! I learned different ideas on being active on the teams, I learned that I'm not the only one who 'flips' to the nutrition info on the food I buy, I learned that some of us are down-in-the-dumps because of the cold weather and lack of sunlight, I learned that to some of us the scales... Sat, 7 Feb 2009 14:23:56 EST Successful Trip..... My Ron and I went to Columbus yesterday to go to our doctor. Pretty much everything went just as planned as the roads were clear and the temps were above freezing. I'll get to the doctor in a minute but I want to tell you the rest first.

My daughter gave Ron a haircut, which he needed so badly. He's a fox again! LOL My grandson presented me with a set of mini ornaments that are orange and have my favorite Nascar driver's number on them. They are keepers, that's for sure ~ I'm... Sat, 24 Jan 2009 09:40:46 EST It Got Me Off My Butt! I have a fused right ankle. The doctor had to put a plate and pins in it to secure it and as soon as I could I had the plate removed. But the pins were left in and have been, in the last 6 years, trying like heck to back out through the skin. They haven't broken the skin yet but they're getting close. And I have lots of pain from them but I wasn't making a move to have them removed.

Our neighbor brought both my Ron and me a new pair of boots. I love mine and they fit great BUT... Wed, 21 Jan 2009 13:42:08 EST Deer Meat Blues..... I hate deer meat! Can't stand the look of it, the smell of it or the taste of it. But as the old saying goes, beggars can't be choosers. We have a wonderful church in this town and they help us out with food boxes at Christmas and other times. The last time we went, there was a 2 pound roll of ground deer meat so....... Now, what do I do with it? I'm thinking the best way to use it up and not taste it is to put it in some Manwich and some in a pot of chili. So, for those of us that get... Fri, 16 Jan 2009 20:47:10 EST Biding My Time....... Hi all! Today I was thinking about this silly computer I'm on and what a hassle it is to use it. It has problems, to be sure, with pages loading "in error" and the Internet going away every 10 emails or so. I've been babying it along wondering what I could do about it. I've tried disc cleaner, virus checking, registry cleaning, defragging, losing the temporary files, history and cookies and none of those have helped one iota.

So I thought of Ron's Aunt Flo. She is salt of the ... Thu, 15 Jan 2009 12:49:15 EST And a Very QUIET Sunday I'm sitting here glad that I cut my fingernails so I'm not clack-clacking away on this keyboard. My soul-mate, Ron, is taking a nap. He has emphasema and it's beginning to really take it's toll on him. I see his lack of energy and his struggle to breathe and it breaks my heart. I don't want to lose him, although I KNOW he'll be in a much better situation, but I'm selfish like that, I need him here. I try to do as much as I can to alleviate his stress and workload but I don't know if I'm ... Sun, 11 Jan 2009 17:09:54 EST A Rainy Saturday Well, winter hasn't decided what it wants to do here in southeastern Ohio so it's raining, a very cold rain, today. I may not get to walk my mile outside today but I won't let that stop me from getting my fitness in. I have an 18-step stairway and I oftentimes walk up and down that 15 to 20 times. I figure that's better even than walking as I'm lifting my 176 pounds up through half of this workout. I also have a circle that goes from my kitchen to the spare bedroom to the hall and back. ... Sat, 10 Jan 2009 11:47:32 EST An Interlude.......9/11 Journal ~ Part 21 Hi readers,

First of all, I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the wonderful people who read my blogs. Y'all make it worth it! I'm sticking in as my blog today a part of a journal I kept back when 9/11 happened. I kept it for over a year and it sat in a notebook on my bookshelf for years until I decided to put it in this forum so others who wanted could read about what I wrote back then. I hope you will at least read this part, if, that is, you are able. I know people wh... Fri, 9 Jan 2009 10:30:03 EST Truvia ~ To Try or Not to Try Hi there. I just read a blog in the Daily Spark about Truvia (Stevia). They had 4 taste testers try it and 2 of them didn't like ANY artificial sweeteners (like me). Those 2 didn't like Truvia, they said the aftertaste was way too sweet. But the other 2 loved it. Their favorite way to use it was in coffee. "There was no difference in the flavor of the coffee".

Now I need to cut my sugar OUT as I have diabetes that is semi-controlled. I really hope this Truvia stuff is the ... Thu, 8 Jan 2009 11:09:46 EST Ahhhhh.....I Feel So Much Better I have to tell you, having 2 wonderful co-leaders on my 2 Ghost Hunter teams (one's GHI) has really taken a load off me. We have overhauled the big team's site, gotten our Stickys in order, changed our Team Goals and totally redid our BOMC! I also started a thread to be a Guide to New Members/Which Threads Are Active tour of the team. And, thanks to Janet, my one co-leader, I wrote an automated welcome which is VERY helpful as the membership is speeding up. I also solely lead another team... Wed, 7 Jan 2009 10:33:57 EST A Quiet Sunday..... Hi all,

I got out and took a mile walk since it wasn't freezing, just cold. So that's good. It's a cloudy day, threatening rain so my walk will be my only outdoor fitness today. I have laundry to do and I make that into a fitness routine, too, by bending for EACH piece of clothing while putting them in the washer and dryer. When I fold them, thanks to my Spark Buddy's excellent idea, I stand up and keep my feet apart. Then I stretch this way and that to fold and put in piles. ... Sun, 4 Jan 2009 13:36:31 EST I Love, Love, LOVE My Teams I thought I would put into words how much my teams mean to me. As I enter this new year, I appreciate the members even more. All of the members I deal with on a daily basis inspire and motivate me and make me want to be a better person. I hope they all know how much I appreciate their strength and positivity!

I'm not in that many teams, I wouldn't be able to be active on any more than I am in now. But I would have to say that the teams I AM on are some of the best that Spark ha... Wed, 31 Dec 2008 11:38:57 EST How I Did in 2008 Well, it's just a couple of days till the new year and I wanted to put down in writing how I did in 2008.
