MATHMAGICIAN's SparkPeople Blog MATHMAGICIAN's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community It was my hormones Today's coaching challenge was to post a blog about my menu plan for tomorrow. That's taken care of for me because I am following a plan to improve hormone balance. So, I thought this would be a good time to reflect on that.

At the height of my frustration with the plateau I'd been on since November, synchronicity happened. I subscribe to Hay House emails because I am always interested in good deals that allow me to add to my Dr. Wayne Dyer collection. Reading his books, I've ... Sun, 17 Mar 2013 16:17:36 EST Scaling back and moving forward Things haven't gone the way I planned so far this year. I was really consistent until I took on the project of reorganizing the kitchen and wore myself out. It's seems I've also been fighting a head cold for weeks now. Monday, I was all set to get on track again. I had gone to the store the previous day and bought all the food I needed to stick to my menu plan. Monday morning I went out for a fifteen minute walk with the intention of doing my strength training after the walk and a brief ... Thu, 14 Feb 2013 10:39:43 EST Are my plateaus caused by PCOS or something else? In November I hit my lowest weight yet, since recommitting to SparkPeople, 181.4. This was during my "two weeks notice" time frame for quitting my job. I was certain that once I was away from that stressful job and staying home that I could stick to the program better and really start seeing some results. One of those things turned out to be true. I have followed the program diligently. Unfortunately, I started gaining weight. I chalked this up to gaining toned muscle and or water weigh... Sat, 9 Feb 2013 12:42:58 EST Mindful eating This morning's coaching session was about mindful eating. While I was watching the video and reading the articles, I argued that this wasn't my problem. "I've always eaten slowly." "It's been a long time since I decimated a large bag of Twizzlers or a familybsized can of mixed nuts in just two days." But then the quiet voice in my head said, "You usually eat while doing something else." I remembered a passage from Deepak Chopra's book _The Way of the Wizard_ in which Merlin explains to a... Wed, 6 Feb 2013 10:49:25 EST All or nothing cleaning. This time around, I definitely have a healthier mindset and attitude. In the past, I've fallen victim to the all or nothing mentality when it came to diet and exercise. I've finally come to terms with the fact that I can't do that to my body. Working out too much or too hard just sets me back and I end up having to rest for days and end up getting off track.

I have found one area where perfectionism rears its ugly head; organizing. Last week I decided to take advantage of the f... Sun, 3 Feb 2013 18:29:00 EST I'm looking forward to getting to know the me I am becoming! When I was college there was a woman that I admired. I didn't know her, but there was something about her that inspired me. She was an older lady with long, silver-white hair that she wore in a ponytail. She was slim and attractive with really nice skin. There was just this youthful vibrancy about her, despite her age, as she bopped along campus. You could tell by her demeanor that she was happy and exactly where she wanted to be. Watching her gave me a different perspective about aging... Sat, 26 Jan 2013 12:55:31 EST Enjoying the journey I've been a SparkPeople member since 2008. I worked the program steadily the first time until I hit a plateau and gave up. I came back every so often to start again but it didn't stick until now. I see, with that clarity that is hindsight, that it was because I had a lot of emotional issues that I wasn't facing. Because of those issues, I made decisions that lead me to a situation in which I had to face those issues. I think of that time as "the year of tears." I finally was in a space... Thu, 17 Jan 2013 10:02:15 EST Tweaking My 2013 Goals as I Go Along 1. I set a goal to start a 12 week, walking, training program on January 1st.

I am in week two of my walking program, which means I've increased my time for 15 minutes (5 minute warmup, 5 minute fast paced walk, 5 minute cool down) to 17 minutes. It's amazing how long 2 more minutes can seem when you're walking at a fast pace! I have increase my mileage from .7 to point .9 miles! I've also joined quite a few walking challenges in different groups to keep myself accountable whil... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 11:31:21 EST Facing my ghost I've been taking a hard look at my tendency toward perfectionism. It used to be something in which I took pride. Over the last few years, though, I've been working to release my ego. As Dr. Wayne Dyer says ego stands for "edging God out." That's not something I want to do. I have seen first hand how letting go of ego's demands has allowed me to admit my faults and thereby heal my relationships. There is one relationship that still needs my attention; my relationship with myself.
<... Fri, 4 Jan 2013 10:53:29 EST Perfectionism Struck Again Last month, I went to the Christmas luncheon at my former place of employment. I quit working there just before Thanksgiving. It was so good to see everyone and we all talked about opportunities in the near future to get together again. Somewhere along the way, I came up with the idea of hosting a New Years Eve party.

When I got home and the reality of this set it, so did my perfectionism! Part of my reasoning for staying home was to get my home in order and to work toward st... Tue, 1 Jan 2013 16:08:32 EST I have something to look forward to now! When I joined SparkPeople in 2008, I had a nine month old daughter. I was also grieving for my mother, who had passed away three years before. I was so sad that she wasn't here to enjoy this beautiful, baby girl. She'd been so involved 12 years prior when my son had been born and I had become a mother for the first time. I dearly missed her presence and support this second time around. I started the SparkPeople journey back then to make sure I would be healthy enough to play with my daug... Tue, 18 Dec 2012 09:48:59 EST Pain used to be my excuse not to exercise When I was 12 years old, I had surgery to correct severe scoliosis. I had a 72 degree curvature of the spine prior to surgery. Afterwards it was 14 degrees. The doctors were even surprised at that outcome. They were just trying to stop it from getting any worse. I grew a little more in the next few years and my curvature increased to 22 degrees. That's about average for people who aren't diagnosed with scoliosis!

As I recall, it took a year or two until normal activities di... Mon, 10 Dec 2012 10:36:46 EST Decluttering Christmas Like many people I've been fascinated with pinterest for a couple of years now. I've been collecting inspiration for holidays and really wanted to incorporate some new ideas into my Christmas decorations this year. Yet, I found myself hesitating. The reason why finally occurred to me Friday night as I was falling asleep. I was dreading pulling out all the old decorations. Many of these were ceramics that I had inherited from my mother, who had inherited them from her step-mother. We did... Sun, 9 Dec 2012 10:47:31 EST Observations My SparkCoach assignment for today is to blog about the differences I notice as a result of my healthier life style. While its true that my weight hasn't gone down all that much recently, I am noticing changes since I renewed my commitment to getting healthy.

1. My clothes are fitting better and in some cases are looser.

2. I wake up sore and achy but not in the same way. Before it was pain that needed to be managed. Sometimes it was so severe that I had to take mus... Sat, 8 Dec 2012 12:30:16 EST After effect of stress I read this article last night: "10 Natural Ways to Defy Your Age"

s_articles.asp?id=1780
It mentioned the effect of stress on aging. I had always taken it for granted that I had nice skin. My mother did as well. No one believed she was in her 70's when she died.

Over the past three years, however, my skin has really been aging. I started buying Avon products from a lady at work in the hopes of reversing and preventin... Sat, 24 Nov 2012 12:32:54 EST Wait a minute! Wed, 10 Oct 2012 09:05:13 EST Getting fit by the yard! I read this blog on Daily Spark a couple of days ago talking about making exercise fun by doing things you enjoy.

rn_to_love_exercise
Thursday DH told me that the man who mows our yard had decided that he no longer has time to fit us in. We discussed it and decided that we could do it as a family with the right equipment. Talk about synchronicity! I love doing yard work! I'd forgotten that because I haven't been able to do it for ...
