MARY_ATHERTON's SparkPeople Blog MARY_ATHERTON's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Not really in to the swing of things right now.... Been a long time since my last post. Am I too busy? Probably not, but hey at least I get my Spark Tracking done daily. I do believe it helps to keep me on point.
41 Wed, 22 Jan 2014 18:19:40 EST I'm off to Program Manager Training today I was asked to be a program manager for our county emergency management programs. It really is just a program to keep our emergency volunteers organized. I've managed programs before so I'm not sure why I'm doing this. Oh yeah I do. Our volunteers here in the county need someone to try and corral them and give them some kind of reporting structure. Plus the county/state AmeriCorps volunteers have a specific way they do things.
521 Tue, 15 Oct 2013 10:28:19 EST It still holds true....I'm not a very good blogger Had a jammed packed day today. Wood was delivered by Home Depot this morning so we can finish one side of our fence we have been trying to do in the back yard. They were early and quick. Then off to a meeting right after. Once at the meeting I was told my presence was needed at another meeting at 1pm. Wow. I've been immersed in emergency prepardedness and I'm getting ready to lead a CERT training course. Today I was asked to be a Public Education Coordinator for our county preparedness... Tue, 10 Sep 2013 21:21:10 EST blogging might not be my thing... I took a little trip this past weekend and was surrounded by un-healthy folks. I love them dearly, but my word............ I think I absorbed 4 pounds just being in a different environment. Not really, I just ate some bad stuff I knew I shouldn't have. Off the rails but ready to get this train moving again.

I did attend the NW CERT Expo and had a really good time. They did provide some healthy snacks and lunch was sandwiches and those unhealthy Costco cookies and muffins. Yep... Mon, 12 Aug 2013 10:38:25 EST busy day today Work this morning. Out to lunch with my "besties", and then on to play golf. Making a good soup when I get home. Yep, it's going to be somewhat busy today. But that is okay. Will be excited to see my girls art work when I get home, though I hope she takes it a bit easy today. She got plumb wore out yesterday and hasn't been sleeping well. Get some rest my dear. I know you are going to read this. I'm feeling pretty fit and losing a little bit. Oh funny, I'm using a "fit bit".
... Sat, 3 Aug 2013 10:03:09 EST It's a day for cleaning and working Not much special today. Going to do floors today....sweep/mop/ vacuum that sort of thing. Working this evening. Also going to work in the garage a bit too. It's a constant chore out there, but it needs to be done so that it doesn't get trashy and stays organized. Just knocking it out. It will be a "sparking clean day" today.
326 Thu, 25 Jul 2013 10:33:08 EST finally got to golf Yep, I finally got a round of golf in yesterday. It was breezy as all get out, but I got to golf. Busy day today. Tap Dance this morning, fixing Sweet Potato Curry soup, then going to work. Doing the "happy dance" before I go dance. Life is pretty good. I look around me where I live and I'm constantly reminded that my life is pretty good. Plus I'm feeling fit, losing a bit of weight, and continuing to eat "sparking good food".
4 Wed, 24 Jul 2013 10:26:00 EST going to try to golf today The weather just doesn't seem to want to cooperate with my golf schedule. It's very cool/breezy/cloudy again here at the SW Washington coast. It's supposed to clear up this afternoon, but it isn't happening very quickly. It is about 55 degrees right now. I was hoping for at least 60. Oh well I'll go and try to golf anyway. The little course is somewhat sheltered by big Douglas Fir trees on most of the course. The fareways are pretty open, but lined with trees. Here's hoping I can get ... Tue, 23 Jul 2013 14:34:33 EST not blogged in a while....not sure why? Had an extremely busy night at work last night. I was kind of pooped when I got home. I did get 10K+ steps in yesterday. I'm still loving my Fitbit. One thing I really like is being able to track my sleep patterns. I sometimes think I don't sleep all that well and some nights that is true, but I've been sleeping an average of 6hrs30mins a night and waking up between 15-25 times each night. It's never for very long, but I sure do like the nights where I wake up 2 times instead of 22. ... Mon, 22 Jul 2013 10:52:51 EST Having a good far Interesting thing, I don't feel all that motivated today or right now. I did go in and work a few hours at the little resort. It was busy and almost all check outs were done by 11:15a. However, I did go back and help the housekeeping laundry section until 12:15p. I swear I can work twice as fast as most of the folks in housekeeping. I really didn't have to do much. Mostly, I just motivated a few people to keep them on track. See I used all of my motivation up already. LOL It's all go... Fri, 19 Jul 2013 16:44:28 EST Sad....didn't get to golf yesterday Off to tap dance with my "besties" this morning. I did not get to golf yesterday. It started misting then turning to rain on my way to the golf course. Of course it cleared up a couple of hours later. Oh well, I'll just keep trying. I love golf. Well I'm not a fanatic...who wants to watch golf on TV. Not me. I'd rather enjoy the walk in the park and try to hit some golf balls correctly. The geometry of putting amazes me. I'm not good at it, but it still amazes me. Just like most fo... Wed, 17 Jul 2013 10:04:45 EST Golf today It's a beautiful day here in SW Washington. The sun is shining, the temps not too hot. Should be perfect for my little golf outing today. Been out to feed all of the blue jays some peanuts. They make me laugh when they are trying to select the right peanut. Today looks to be a most excellent day. My friend calls golf "a walk in the park"....mostly because we aren't good golfers, but enjoy the walk.
278 Tue, 16 Jul 2013 11:03:13 EST Been out and about in Portlandia I spent Fri. night in Portlandia. I love that city. I did so much walking. By the time I got to bed Fri. night I had over 11K steps on my Fitbit tracker. I'm sure it was a bit more because I didn't have my tracker on right away when I got up on Fri. morning. I attended a camera class on Sat. and it was so enjoyable. Glad to be back home at the little beach house. Good times with the "besties", but great to be home. Ready to start my Sparkin' good day.
134 Sun, 14 Jul 2013 12:20:36 EST Beautiful sunny day on the SW Washington coast It just looks lovely outside this morning. We'll see if it holds. You never know with that marine layer. It just sits off the coast and taunts. Got to go to the store and pick up the one thing I couldn't find across the river yesterday. Simple thing. BREAD. I'm off to work for a bit tonight. Not a big deal. Getting ready for a little trip out of town too. Going over to Portland, OR for a girlfriend outting tomorrow then on to a digital camera class on Saturday. Really looking forwa... Thu, 11 Jul 2013 10:06:10 EST stuff to do today Off to tap dance here in a bit. Then off to shop across the river (the mighty Columbia). We live in a somewhat rural area and the closest big shopping is in Astoria, OR. We don't have chain stores here on the Long Beach Peninsula on the SW Washington coast. Only do it twice a month so that is good. It is about 28 miles each way. Don't mind it though because we can get better prices and more selection. We try to shop locally as much as we can, but there comes a time when you just have t... Wed, 10 Jul 2013 09:48:42 EST golf and zumba in one day Off to Zumba here in a few minutes. The ladies I Zumba with are lots of fun. Crazy dancers! Then it will be off to golf here this afternoon. Hoping the gray skies lighten up just a bit. I don't mind if it stays in the low 60's for the afternoon, but a little partly cloudy here in the PNW equals mostly sunny to us here on the coast. It's all good. Just need to the fairways and greens to be mostly dry. However, I have seen folks wear their rain boots/mudders to golf. It looks pretty fu... Tue, 9 Jul 2013 11:48:28 EST busy day I feel like I've been moving a bit today and Fitbit indicates I've been moving a bit. Go figure. We have a really nice Cowboy Studio light kit. Haven't set it up since we got it. Today it went up fairly easy, but man do I have a lot to learn about doing portrait photos. Hey, at least I tried. I think a couple of photos might have turned out okay. Oh well. I'll keep trying on the photo thing. I finally get to golf tomorrow. Probably by myself, but I'm okay with it.
278... Mon, 8 Jul 2013 19:03:05 EST morning tennis Going to the tennis center this morning to use the ball machine. Got my little Fitbit on and I'm ready to move. Also hoping to take some portrait quality photos for someone this morning. Hmmmmm......maybe I'd better check and see if the battery is charged up in my camera. That would be a bad thing to get all set up and not have battery.
388 Sun, 7 Jul 2013 11:26:42 EST Off to work quite early I think I'm operating at a calorie deficit or something. I took off this morning and didn't eat breakfast, then ended up staying at work most of the day and didn't take a lunch. Need to be careful about that sort of thing. I was hungry when I got home so I had toast and jam. Don't want to overdo before dinner. Back on track tomorrow. Also didn't get much activity in today, the job ended up being kind of sedentary. A little activity, but not much. I'll go for tennis in the morning. <BR... Sat, 6 Jul 2013 19:27:52 EST work and tennis Worked just a tiny bit this morning and then did 40 minutes of tennis after I got off work. I'm loving my Fitbit. I guess the thing I like most about it is the tracking of nutrition and exercise. Did the sleep thing last night and was surprised at the results. Some nights I don't think I sleep so well, but Fitbit proved me wrong...well at least for last night. Will try it again over a period of time and see how I do.
100 Fri, 5 Jul 2013 15:47:06 EST Fitbit rocks! Got my Fitbit One yesterday. Played with setting it up. Had some difficulty. If I had one complaint it would be that the instructions are kind of weak. Makes you think just plug it in and get moving and Fitbit will sync everything. NOT! Watched a few You Tube videos to see how the heck the thing really works. I suppose when you have so many folks using so many different systems it would be impossible to address all of the issues that come up. Looks like it might be easier with an iPho... Thu, 4 Jul 2013 10:47:54 EST Zumba and Working Going to try Zumba this morning after not having done it for a while. Also working for about 4 hours this evening. I live in a little beach resort community and sometimes work....mostly on call or if someone if unable to work. It's fun. Nothing really exciting, but hey it keeps me active.

198 Tue, 2 Jul 2013 11:11:02 EST shopping day Off to do the "first of the month" shopping. Stocking up on items that are hard to find locally. Oh, I have to travel about 28 miles to shop at major stores. It's okay though. We do buy a lot of stuff locally...but the selections are limited when you live in a rural area. Great weather here in the PNW. Maybe I can finally get the car washed.
433 Mon, 1 Jul 2013 09:36:43 EST Routine is good My days are sometimes so mundane, but enjoyable. Off to tap dance this morning with my "besties". I think we will have a full compliment of dancers this morning and with any luck we will make it through all 11 dances. It feels so good to be able to dance. I was not a dancer as a child so I kind of feel accomplished being able to tap dance my little heart out. 355 Sat, 29 Jun 2013 10:09:32 EST today is a good day! Just finished my weight and fitness trackers. Blood pressure is really good. Weight....I should be please with 5 pounds, right? Everything is looking pretty good for me. Don't really have any fitness activities for today, but I'm teaching to CERT courses this afternoon. Looking forward to it.
150 Fri, 28 Jun 2013 11:07:24 EST rain.... Was supposed to golf today, but it's been raining since early morning. Doesn't look to be letting up. Sad. Well I'll just have to put that on the schedule for the next almost sunny day here in the PNW. 46 Thu, 27 Jun 2013 10:53:58 EST Tap Dance fun Heading off to Tap Dance here in a bit. My "besties" are so much fun to dance with. We have 11 dances that we do twice a week and I know at least 8 dancers will show up for todays fun. WoooooHooooo! 354 Wed, 26 Jun 2013 10:19:41 EST not sure what to do for exercise for today I really do have a pretty active life. I mean tap dance on Weds. and Sat. Tennis or Golf on Thurs. and Sun. I have the ability to move quite a bit but right now I'm not really in to walking. Hmmmm...not sure what that is about, but I might try to get out and do some photography today. Still to early to have mapped out my day.
278 260 311 Tue, 25 Jun 2013 10:44:45 EST 6/23/2013 Well, been doing tennis lessons twice a week, but today I actually called and scheduled a tee time for golf on Thurs. Now if the weather cooperates it will be good. I call it a "walk in the park" because I'm not very good, but do enjoy the walk around the course. Here's hoping for a spot of sunshine Thursday afternoon.
260 Mon, 24 Jun 2013 15:40:39 EST
