Do approved ST to strengthen my legs and back (without further injuring them).

Continue to volunteer teaching English to adults in my apt on Sunday nites and to children at Iejima once a month.

Lose an additional 15-20 lbs.

Meet with my new Spark buddy once a week. Wed, 17 Sep 2014 07:41:09 EST Camp WannabeFit Kickoff to Summer Scavenger Hunt I dare say I am a bit behind. Being 13 hours ahead of ET, it was after work Thursday when I got the kickoff info. So, I took pics Friday by phone and yesterday by camera while on our mission trip to another island. We usually get back by 6 pm, but got back later due to crowded ferry and heavy traffic back home from the port. The phone pics, I'm not sure how to transfer to my computer, the camera ones will be okay once I find my card reader. My computer is broken on that side, but the card rea... Sat, 21 Jun 2014 23:50:36 EST Recovery Blog As I said in my last blog, I only blog when I have to to so-to help my team in some way. This blog is to write about m action plan for after a setback. The only action plan that ever helps me is to tell myself to stop the poor choices and get right back on track the next meal. That minimizes any damage from the poor choices and better ingrains my new lifestyle eating plans. Mon, 12 May 2014 08:03:28 EST Christmas Goals If you know me, you know that I only blog when I have to do so. But it is important to have goals and to have them where I and others who will hold me accountable can see them!
Holidays are renown for wrecking the best diet and fitness efforts through unresistable treats and family and friend fellowship activities that draw us away from our health plans. So,...
During the holidays (November/December) I will:
Do my fitness activities-ST Mon/Thurs. walk/stairs at lunch, swim laps... Mon, 11 Nov 2013 04:49:53 EST Whew! Day 7 of 7 Question Anything you would like to share with your team?

Yes, I would like to thank you all (+plus other responders) for the helpful suggestions, the encouraging words and support-you are subarashii (awesomely wonderful)! Fri, 8 Mar 2013 06:38:15 EST Day 6 of 7 Question 6) Do you need some motivation or advice? Ask for it! I think that those who have suggestions have made them. If not, please do now. Wed, 6 Mar 2013 23:26:03 EST Day 5 of 7 Question-5) What can you improve upon? Well, let's see-there are few options on an island this small, especially since I have only completed a few years of Japanese. One Firecracker suggested body weight exercises-that was a good suggestion, one that I have tried. But I wanted to kick it up a notch. I can increase the weights I have at home a bit to do exercises that my trainer in the States already showed me; I can wait till I furlough in the summer; I can try more Spark videos. The "want to... Wed, 6 Mar 2013 04:15:14 EST Day 4 of 7 Hi again,
Day 4) How are you doing day by day? Well, I found a number for a gym off base that speaks English (at least their ad was in English) tonight and plan to call tomorrow. Swam alone on Sunday, got ST on Monday with a friend and swam with a different friend right before. Swam and exercised yesterday and today, and scheduled in my calendar for the rest of the week except tomorrow when I can't exercise except walking before work and at lunch due to other ongoing commitments. Tue, 5 Mar 2013 08:27:01 EST Okay, Day 3 of 7 Question 3) What are you doing to encourage yourself and keep on track?
I am hanging out with friends who also do ST-usually with me. It is more fun to work out with a friend, and makes me more likely to go work out instead of making excuses myself-like being too tired, etc. I am less likely to let down a friend than to forget a promise to myself! Back tomorrow, same time, same place. See you then! Mon, 4 Mar 2013 09:29:11 EST Okay, second of 7 blogs Not because I want to, but because I want to support my 5% team with the point it earns, I am writing my 2nd blog in 2 days (yes, to be followed by another 5 blogs-sorry!) Today's question is "How will you do that?" I touched on that a bit yesterday and received quite a few helpful replies. One was mentioned by several friends: try calling the personal trainer again. This is a good suggestion because English speaking personal trainers are hard to come by here-if you Google it, you get many en... Sun, 3 Mar 2013 00:35:10 EST What? Another Blog? I know-it's way too soon to have another blog-but duty calls!
As a new habit, I need to work on increasing the intensity and/or repetitions for my strength training. I swim most everyday, but was ordered not to do other exercises by my orthopedic surgeon when I herniated discs in my back several years ago. But my back is better; so, it's back to the gym for me. I tried to enlist an English-speaking personal trainer for a few sessions to make sure my form was good and that I was not re-in... Sat, 2 Mar 2013 05:51:16 EST Blogging for a Bingo square I am trying this once again. If something kills it, next time I will just accept the blank square instead. You can tell by the date of my last blog that this is not my favorite activity. It is to get points for my team (because they are challenging me to go past my comfort zone, which hopefully will result in weight loss and a healthier me-thanks for the challenge!) I have a very low BMI since I take medication for my heart that slows my heartrate. So, even when swimming a mile without stoppi... Mon, 4 Feb 2013 08:54:47 EST Back to work Well, I went back to work today. Felt a bit puny, but no pain and breathing fine. Made it through the day, even walked at lunch. Though I have to be honest that I am glad that next week's challenge is alot easier for me-I never use added salt! And the blessing that came from being sick this week is that my friend, Heidi, gave me an herb that I thought they had taken off the market. I used to take Kan Jang, then they changed the name to Kold Kare, then the last time I tried to buy it; they sai... Fri, 20 Jan 2012 09:52:47 EST Sick Day Number 2 Well, I went to the doctor today, and he said that I have sinusitis and gave me an antibiotic which should make me good as new in record time. My friend brought over homeopathic remedies that I thought I should postpone till after the doctor. One is something I have had success with in the past, but thought that they stopped making it-at least the health food store stopped selling it. It used to be called Kan jang, but now is called Kold Kare. In 30 minutes I could breathe! I had not used my ... Wed, 18 Jan 2012 06:59:42 EST Plans gone awry What a day! I rolled out of bed, got my poles and started to go outside. It was drizzling steadily, so I opted for a rain poncho and headed for the soccer field. But it was not just a drizzle, it was heavy winds+a drizzle. So, the poncho wound up in my face with the drizzle on my lower body. I made it over to my room and decided to call my grandson on gmail phone. He did not answer, but while I was trying; a friend came in saying that she had planned to walk to the clinic for her ear, but the... Mon, 16 Jan 2012 09:09:26 EST Healthy Habits forming I didn't rise as early as usual this morning, but still had enough time to do an hour walk with my poles before breakfast. When I was still in the States, I would always rise early to be at the pool at 5:30 am sharp to be sure to get a lap lane to swim before work. But that meant that I had to have everything ready the night before so that when my laps were done, I could shower and dress for work and then drive 45 min to get there.

I did Volksmarching then, but that was a weekend a... Sat, 14 Jan 2012 21:51:28 EST Grand Canyon Habits Blogging is not and has never been "my thing". If you look on my page, you will see that my last blog post was over 2 and a half years ago as part of another challenge. I just never think that what I have to say is that earth shattering or of interest to busy people.

But here I am again blogging as part of a challenge! I am to write about a habit that I want to develop. I have already begun a habit that seems quite valuable to me, and that is exercising first thing in the morning. ... Sat, 14 Jan 2012 04:33:33 EST Rocky Connections It's amazing to me sometimes how God gives the same verse or message to different people in my life (who then pass it on to me)-it's like stereophonic messages. Katrinia has been motivating us with her Rocky quotes, one of which was going the distance and another about stretching ourselves-like out of our comfort zones. I am reading a book by Laurie Hall where she writes, "God consistently answered my prayers, but His answers were always much bigger than I thought they would be. He had to enl... Mon, 29 Jun 2009 01:48:58 EST Sleep anyone? I added a new goal to my quiver-8 hrs. of sleep/night. I get so close some nights, but 8 seems to be an unattainable number! Last night I got way less. I had someone covering for me today since I was off. It always takes more time to prepare for a sub than to do it yourself. So, I was at work until 2 am getting things ready to be off. Needless to say, I was not rested this morning (even though I did not set the alarm). I get so tired during the day! I have tried mini naps-15-20 minutes, but ... Mon, 18 May 2009 09:02:58 EST Convention-Thanks for sharing! CareWren from one of my Spark teams shared on her blog about the convention in San Diego. She included a list of Spark people who were there, including the 5 on the panel of success stories. Some had already been featured as a motivator since I've been here, and I had already checked out their Spark pages. But one had not (or I had missed it!) On checking her page, I found out that she had joined Spark people only 4 months before me. Her weight loss was 4 times what mine is. She is obviously ... Fri, 8 May 2009 23:45:14 EST Swimming in Slow Motion I was swimming laps at my regular pace with two other swimmers in my lane. In the other lane were 4 young men I had not seen at the pool before. As I swam, I saw one after the other pass me like I was standing still or "swimming in slow motion". Shortly, they passed me again going the other direction, and I had not yet reached the wall. One was doing butterfly kick with no arms, so the waves in the pool were noticeable. After an hour, I got out, dried off, and went to the massage chair for 15... Fri, 24 Apr 2009 23:48:14 EST Oh me of Little Faith Oh me of little faith (of little patience as well). I finally lost another kilo. It is hard to read individual pounds with my eyes and the scale so far away from my eyes. I had lost 7 kilos in January, nothing in February, 3 kilos in March, and then nothing again. Now this makes 11 kilos (24 pounds)! I am thankful that I was told about this site and for all the support my Spark teams give me. I am truly blessed! Tue, 7 Apr 2009 03:20:39 EST
