MARY831's SparkPeople Blog MARY831's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community So proud It has taken me a couple of extra days to get to week two day three on the couch to 5k program I am doing. I fell off the treadmill the other day. Don't ask me how but I did. Anyway, it was hot today...and my little voice was saying all sorts of negative things...but I pushed that little voice down and did what I had to do and finished! I sweat like I never have before but I finished and that is why I am proud ! Thu, 11 Jul 2013 11:23:39 EST my best buddy! Today I wanted to share how much I appreciate my dog. We got him as a puppy two years ago. He was and is still so cute. A pug and a jack russell mix. Curly tailed and kind of barrel chested. The reason I appreciate him so much is he is a great workout partner for me. We both have short legs and are a little on the round side. We are able to walk together and when we run we are able to keep up with each other. He loves our daily walks and our jogs so much. I couldn't have asked for be... Thu, 4 Jul 2013 13:32:12 EST YAY!!! Started the couch to 5k rookie running program tuesday! Day two down today!!! Signing up for the color run in Providence RI in October. Will give me plenty of time to train before then! I am feeling so good!!! Ditching the scale and just taking care of me! Maybe this was the secret all along! Thu, 27 Jun 2013 10:56:34 EST Feeling great!! Eating primally, exercising daily. Finally seem to have a handle on everything! Feeling better than I have in as long as I can remember. Wanting to make these . permanent . Just want to live the rest of my life with health and vitality! So happy! Fri, 21 Jun 2013 11:21:55 EST Wow Just read my last blog post from over two years ago...wish I had continued to think that way. I have stumbled since, got back up, and stumbled again. I have learned from my mistakes. I know that lower carb/primal is the way to eat for me if I want to feel my best. Given up the scale. Eating non processed fruits, veggies and meats. Feeling so much better. My sinuses are clear for the first time in I don't know how long. I mean without having surgery! I am determined to continue this ... Tue, 18 Jun 2013 07:42:24 EST Taking control... For so many years I have been out of control. Not in many obvious ways, but internally, with my eating habits and with my health. At 43 years old and with 3 almost grown children I wish I had regained control earlier. I regret them having learned alot of my bad habits, my poor coping mechanisms. I feel as if I am finally in control now though. I am eating in a way which is healthy for me, whether everyone agrees with it or not. My headaches are gone, I have more energy. I am exercis... Sun, 20 Feb 2011 11:08:11 EST Thank you Leslie Sansone! So I have always been pretty pudgy and not at all athletically inclined. Watching my try zumba, or step aerobics or tae bo is a rather funny somewhat sad sight. Thankfully though, I have found exercise that I can do, that makes me sweat, makes me smile and helps me feel better. When I first discovered Leslie Sansone it seemed a little silly to me but I thought, "what the heck" its alot cheaper than a gym membership or a treadmill! I alternate now between the four and five mile walks dail... Wed, 16 Feb 2011 12:25:09 EST Answers This may be a little controversial but I have to write about it. I have been struggling with my weight, with fatigue, with chronic miserable sinuses for about as long as I can remember. I have dieted, given up and dieted again more times than I can count. I have made some attempts before at low carb but gave up soon after starting thinking I just couldn't live without certain foods (mostly sugar there I said it) Anyway, I started Atkins after reading New Atkins for a New You, two and a ha... Tue, 15 Feb 2011 10:40:11 EST My life So lately, as I have been changing the way I do things I have been doing alot of thinking. I love my job. I am a licensed practical nurse, have been one for 22 years. Until recently I have always said I could never think of doing anything else with my life. Now, it seems like I take care of people, often times people who really shouldn't be in the situation they are in, when the choices they make have led them to very poor health in life. I have been wondering if eventually I can find a ... Wed, 24 Mar 2010 06:45:10 EST Happy I am so excited...even though the scale moves slowly. I have been using my elliptical just about every day for about three weeks now and I have noticed such a big difference in my stamina and endurance! I went for a three mile walk with my daughter up and down hills and she had to struggle to keep up with me which is a huge change...usually she is urging me along!! It feels so good to have energy! I love that machine even though its noisey! It has helped me so much!!! Sat, 20 Mar 2010 19:54:11 EST low carb So once again I am trying to adjust my way of eating to suit my needs. When I went to see the nurse practitioner the other day regarding high blood pressure and weight she suggested low carb which was much to my surprise. She stated she felt I had metabolic syndrome (which really wasn't a big surprise) and that the best dietary treatment for it was low carb like Atkins or South Beach. I am hoping that this will help me in the long run. With the blood pressure and pre diabetes and everyth... Thu, 18 Mar 2010 11:44:27 EST Done playing. So here I am...42 years old (almost 43) but in no rush to get there. Faced head on with the consequences of a lifetime of bad choices and knowing what I have to do about it. Was having headaches and not feeling so well and went to the doctor's the other blood pressure was sky high! (170/100) . Was put on blood pressure meds but know that the only way to really improve this is to improve my weight and my lifestyle. I have been playing around too long working out hard one week, let... Fri, 5 Mar 2010 06:54:41 EST So Proud Yes, I said it. I am so proud of myself. I am working a double today, after having worked third shift last night...instead of hitting the snooze for an extra few minutes or setting the alarm clock later I got up early enough to put in my 20 minutes on the elliptical! That machine has sat dormant in my basement for a couple years now and this week I am so glad I decided to dust the beast off and face it head on. I am tired of being the one who doesn't do it because its "too hard" the batt... Sat, 20 Feb 2010 14:17:48 EST serenity Being raised Catholic there is one thing I can always remember seeing and can still see to this day in my parent's house. The serenity prayer, on plaques, wall hangings etc. I never gave a thought to any of them really until recently. Now when I am feeling overwhelmed and unsure of what to do it is the first thing I think of. I have a plaque my Dad and Mom made (yes made) for me with those words on it in my dining room right above my reading chair. This journey toward health is tough at ... Fri, 19 Feb 2010 07:50:50 EST love that elliptical!!! Well, got on the elliptical today for the first time in forever, put in twenty minutes, stopped to catch my breath once but it felt so good! My goal is to increase by five minutes every two days until I reach an hour! It kicks my butt, leaves me shakey but is so good for me!! Yay!!! Wed, 17 Feb 2010 11:16:10 EST so done! I am so aggravated with myself. I did a wonderful thing today( at least I think its wonderful) I got out and walked with my daughter, two miles, mostly uphill. It was killer but felt so good! So why, in the back on my head is my little voice saying..."you didn't do it fast enough!" "you only made it two miles?" All things that I think are good to some extent to push me further but why can't I just let myself be happy that I got out and did it? I want to make it further, and faster and a... Sat, 13 Feb 2010 16:50:44 EST feeling so much better So for years, and I mean as long as I can possibly remember, I have had terrible sinus problems. Constantly drippy nose, headaches, sinus infections. Had allergy testing years ago for environmental allergies and received allergy shots for some time. Anyway, I never remember being tested for food allergies, so I decided to give the whole vegan thing a shot and it is amazing how much better I feel. I also eliminated gluten from my diet and lo and behold, runny nose is so much better, not pe... Thu, 4 Feb 2010 16:41:11 EST four pounds!!! Yay, I weighed myself today and am down four pounds since last week!!! I still have a long way to go but I haven't been this weight in years! My goal is to be down thirty more pounds by my oldest daughter's birthday in May! That would put me out of the 200's for the first time in years!!! Thu, 7 Jan 2010 12:33:58 EST more resolutions to finish the eat to live and the 21 day vegan kick start challenges! I know this is the best way of eating for me but sometimes old habits die hard. I feel so much better when the animal products are eliminated from my diet! This time I will do it! Sun, 20 Dec 2009 15:28:31 EST New Years Resolutions So excited about the New Year and a Challenge on my team, Walk Away the Pounds! Really got me here are the resolutions so far

1. Sat, 19 Dec 2009 13:42:48 EST away for awhile Been away for awhile, letting things slip, getting discouraged. I have decided though that I worked too hard for too long to go back to where I was. I have gained back about six of the nearly thirty I lost but I won't let it become more. I know what I need to do, I know it won't be easy, but I know I can do it! My health and well being are too important to play with! So today I start again. Exercising every day and eating right! I can do it! Wed, 9 Dec 2009 17:46:36 EST stuck My scale has been stuck at the same weight for over a month! I am frustrated but not giving up! I read about the Alternate Day Diet in Woman's World a couple weeks ago and have decided to try it! Today is my first down day and I am weighing in at 230. I am going to do this for a week and see what my results are and how I feel! I am praying for this to be the way for me! Fri, 21 Aug 2009 10:05:50 EST Feeling good. Don't know what the scale will say on my birthday but I do know this. Last year I did very little in the way of exercise, was always tired, and just felt blah. Now, I just got done four miles with Leslie Sansone and I feel better than I have in years! The scale isn't the only measure of success! Sun, 9 Aug 2009 16:59:28 EST monthly I decided yesterday and after my mini temper tantrum, that I need to go back to weighing monthly and focusing more on the positive changes I am making daily. That way the scale won't be such a big focus! Heck, last year at this time the most exercise I got was walking to the fridge and back! Today I just finished four miles with Leslie Sansone! Big improvement in my book. Plus loads more energy and just a better all around outlook! Today is another day! Sat, 1 Aug 2009 15:24:56 EST frustration Got on the scale this morning and found it only down a pound from last week! Stuck to the plan, exercised every day. Just can't seem to get the scale to move any quicker. Drank my water. Need to track my calories more closely maybe. I don't know. But a pound down is better than nothing and better than a pound up! Patience is something I need to remind myself to have. Fri, 31 Jul 2009 14:42:18 EST birthday present I know I said I wanted to lose all my weight by my 43rd birthday and that is still true but I was thinking, what about this year? So I set a mini goal to be down 12 pounds by my birthday and also to have walked 120 miles! Started today, walked only 2.5 but tomorrow will do three. Then three every day after that! Happy birthday to me! Sat, 25 Jul 2009 17:21:16 EST Wow Have been away from this page for quite awhile! Good news is I have lost some weight bad news not nearly to goal yet! But twenty pounds is twenty pounds and I'd rather be down twenty than up! Have been using a diet plan for about four months now and that has brought me down twenty. Exercising regularly although not every day. Lets see, lots of news, engaged now for almost a year to a wonderful man. Getting married on Feb. 14th. Kids are good! Life is good. Reset my goal so that I los... Fri, 24 Jul 2009 10:44:01 EST
