MARTILLINI's SparkPeople Blog MARTILLINI's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Meal prep Although making the meal the day of doesn't really count as meal prep, I'm going to try to put together two lunches and see how it goes. I've wanted to do meal prep for a one time, but never did it. Honestly, I think my motivation is stronger now. I'm starting super simple and building from there. If I have the meal or set snacks, I think it'll be easier to stay on track. The lunches I'm making are baked chicken (cutting into small squares so I can see the proper amount instead of guessin... Tue, 6 Jan 2015 10:56:39 EST 30 day workout plan. I'm using my Jillian Michaels videos right now for a 30 day workout plan. Next month, I hope to add, and buy more, SparkPeople dvds. Below is a modified version of a workout plan I found on Pinterest.

Key: 30DS - 30 Day Shred (Lvl 1 or 2), Abs - Killer Abs DVD, Legs - Killer Buns and Thighs DVD

** If I substitute another DVD in, it will probably be the SparkPeople cardio DVD I have (if you don't have it, please consider getting it. Great for beginners to advanced. I had ... Thu, 6 Feb 2014 12:19:14 EST Early to rise.. Or at least trying to! This morning started off with an argument. I got in a fight... With myself.

*alarm goes off*
Sleepy me: Ugh, it is too dark outside, I can't run at 6 am.
Exercise me: But you'll regret it if you don't go now. Will you really want to run at 7 pm?
Sleepy me: Bed. Warm. Comfortable.
*roll over and face plant into pillow*
Exercise me: Stop being a whiner and get up. Now.
Sleepy me: But...
Exercise me: Fine, I'm leaving.

So Exercise me won ... Tue, 6 Aug 2013 10:03:48 EST I love this site. I just love it here at SparkPeople. I read through comments on past blogs and I have to say, I'm grateful for all of you. Thank you.

Update:

I have a plan. I'm doing C25K every other day. Yesterday, my second day of the plan, Friday was the first, I was in SO much pain... Hobbling everywhere. My husband was trying not to laugh as I nearly fell down when I tried to stand up. Don't worry, I got back at him. The house smelled like Icy Hot all night. (Evil Laugh)

... Mon, 5 Aug 2013 12:46:20 EST The hardest thing... I fell off the wagon. After my mother-in-law came to visit in May, I had a week break in my workouts and I didn't pick it back up again. Today, I started again and I discovered exactly what the most difficult thing about this journey toward fitness is: starting over.

Once you get started, it gets easier to keep going.

So day one all over again, but I just have to remember to keep going. Tue, 2 Jul 2013 13:44:40 EST DONE! I finished 30 days of 30 day shred. I started March 1 and my last workout was this morning.

I know you're supposed to take rest days, but I wanted to do this for myself. As a teen and young adult, I always had goals and worked to reach them. Lately, that hasn't been the case. Finishing 30 day shred in 30 days was something I had to do for myself, to prove that I could set my mind to something and accomplish it. And I'll be honest, it feels amazing.

And, really, I ... Sat, 30 Mar 2013 10:44:05 EST Turn a negative into a positive. Yesterday, I finally put batteries back into my Wii balance board. I figured, hey, I've been exercising a lot over the past month and a half, watching what I eat (slipping up now and then, but it happens) and drinking lots of water. Maybe I should weigh myself.

It said I had lost 6 pounds. I was a bit deflated, but I thought, "Well, maybe the balance board is not working well." So this morning, I went to my son's school and asked the nurse if I could weigh myself. 180. So, not 6 in... Tue, 26 Mar 2013 20:27:41 EST I'm afraid... ... of running.

My family doesn't really understand, because none of them are interested in fitness. I'm really worried. I want to tie on my shoes, go for a run and feel great and/or worn out when I come back. And I want the benefits that go with it.

I used to run. I was in the army, 11 years ago. At my fastest, I ran 16:08 for 2 miles. I desperately wanted to break 16:00. I injured my back (herniated disc) and never really recovered. I was medically discharged from the ... Mon, 11 Mar 2013 19:12:21 EST Nutrition label If you're on this site chances are, like me, you have been paying more attention to your nutrition labels. I had been getting these boxes for dinner, they come with almost everything in them for a main dish. The meat and some sauce comes in a can. Quick, tastes okay and I can go easy if the calories are too high.

So as I'm making this Cheesy Chicken dish tonight, I start reading the label. I opened the can with the chicken in it and it looked like the chicken was in a milk-like li... Tue, 26 Feb 2013 17:31:11 EST I think I've figured it out... Two things:

I have to take things at my own pace.
I need to work on a goal.

I've been tracking my food on this site, that has been SO helpful. I'm also working on a challenge from a FB group. The goal is 1300 jump squats, 1000 burpees, and 120 minutes of planks. First, let me say, burpees are one of the most evil things ever. I'm kinda cheating, but not because I want to cheat. I'm doing the pushups on my knees, because I'm just starting out and I'm not sure I can k... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 18:36:32 EST Happy November! Good morning :)

So I have a question to anyone who might read this.. What are your goals for this month?

I saw on facebook a group that is going to walk a mile a day this month. I think that's a great goal, so I decided to join. I walked 3 this morning because I had time.

Remember, it doesn't matter what happened yesterday (Halloween is finished, and the candy is gone, or at least hidden where it isn't a temptation), what matters is what we do today. Make Nov... Tue, 1 Nov 2011 12:56:07 EST Back on track Every day is a new start. I think that is my new motto. In the past, I would have gotten frustrated over a couple of days of bad eating and no exercise and I would have quit trying to get healthier. Thank goodness I can start over at any time. Not just every day, but I can get myself back on track in the middle of the day if I realize I've slipped up.

Last night, I made Avgolemono soup. While it's not bad for me, I usually eat way too much. The night before I had made this cassero... Sat, 29 Oct 2011 17:31:54 EST Sunday... I woke up this morning and felt awful. I rolled over and pulled the blanket over my head. My son brought a cold home from school and we've both been fighting it for almost a week.

I know in my head I should have gotten up early this morning and gone for a run. I decided to do the 30 day shred dvd instead.

One thing I would like to share, positive, today is that today marks my last day of drinking soda. Well, I hope. I read an article today, and I don't know how legitim... Sun, 23 Oct 2011 18:03:13 EST Happy Saturday! Hi there! I just finished my exercise for the day. I'm nearing the end of my time in Level 1 of Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred. I've gone looking for motivation to keep me on track. One of the most important things I've seen is that it takes 4 weeks to see a change in yourself once you've started exercise. It takes 8 weeks for your significant other to see a change. It takes 12 weeks for everyone else to see a change, so give it at least 12 weeks.

It's so easy to get frustrated wh... Sat, 22 Oct 2011 15:50:25 EST Rest today I had every intention of getting up at 6:30 this morning and going for a run (okay, walk/run, because I'm not quite there yet). My son was sick: fever, coughing and even threw up. So I'll be just doing 30 day shred today. Maybe I'll try and get out and run after the husband gets home.

My son hadn't been sick very much at all until school started, now he's been sick at least half the time. Poor kid. So I was up at 6:30, giving him juice, cough medicine and he couldn't sleep unless ... Sun, 16 Oct 2011 14:21:39 EST What a week! It has been good though, I think. I need to stock up on more Icy Hot. This week I alternated between doing the Couch to 5k running (well, walk/run) and Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. For both I'm in the first week/level.

My food hasn't been that great. I've been falling back on old habits as the week went on. Eating something then writing it down. If I'd written it down first, I'd never have eaten it. Like those chips I had for lunch. Never too late to start over though, right? <... Fri, 14 Oct 2011 18:28:32 EST Ow. Morning folks :)

Thank you for stopping by to read my ramblings the last couple of days. I love getting input and suggestions from people.

So today is L1D2 of 30 day shred. I felt like my 3 lb weights weren't quite enough, so I used the 5 lb weights. I definitely feel a difference in my biceps. I know it'll feel better eventually, but right now I just want to dunk my entire body in a pool of Icy Hot. Side note, I do have an Icy Hot back patch on right now. Feels really... Mon, 10 Oct 2011 13:33:24 EST Quitting is forever. Maybe. I read a quote on twitter a while back that has pushed me to keep going on my exercise. "Pain is temporary, quitting is forever." While it motivates me when I'm working out, is it really true in the long-run? I don't think so.

I quit eating right, quit exercising and gained weight back. Now that I'm more motivated to be healthy than ever before, I'm proof that quitting isn't forever. I need to push myself to not quit individual workouts, but until my last breath, quitting will not... Sun, 9 Oct 2011 15:45:07 EST From Yesterday... I posted this last night on a blog site, because I had completely forgotten about Spark People! Shame on me! I love this site and I'll be spending my time here, but I wanted to share the blog I wrote and my reason for (finally) being serious about my health. When I was here before (earlier this year), I was only concerned about how I look, not for the long term. It is different now. I want a permanent change. So here's what I wrote.

**********
Hello, my name is Valerie. I'm st... Sun, 9 Oct 2011 13:57:47 EST Exercise So I'm tempted to join a gym. I was part of one last year, but limited hours made me cancel. There's another gym in town, a 24-hour gym with treadmills and stationary bikes, so that's the one I'm considering. I want to try to get back to jogging/running again, but an injury from my Army days makes me hesitant. Stupid injury on my part, but I have a messed up disk in my back. If I try to run in my neighborhood, and my back starts hurting, I'll be a half a mile away and curled up in a ball on t... Tue, 26 Apr 2011 13:40:57 EST Tracking food/Exercise So this week, I've been doing the dvd stuff, and the strength exercises that they recommend for me on this site. Yesterday I got a big red notice at the bottom of the page that if I exercise this much I need to eat more, or it will mess up my weight loss.

I need to research this, but I'm not sure what I should do. I'm doing a semi-Weight Watchers thing. My mom gave me some old books and I'm trying to do what I can to stick to that. I feel that if I eat any more I'm not going to los... Fri, 15 Apr 2011 19:11:00 EST DVD Weight loss I don't go to the gym anymore. I used to go to curves, but the local gym cut down its hours dramatically, and hours they were open were increasingly taken up by zumba. It wouldn't be bad, except you had to pay extra. Anyways, that's in the past.

Here's my plan. I started yesterday. I am going to try and lose weight by using DVD workouts ONLY for cardio. I will be using the sparkpeople workout for my strength training.

Yesterday and today I used the "Pussycat Dolls Worko... Mon, 11 Apr 2011 14:52:53 EST
