MANCMALE78's SparkPeople Blog http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal.asp?id=MANCMALE78 MANCMALE78's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community SparkPeople.com http://assets2.sparkpeople.com/assets/nav/logo_spark.gif http://www.sparkpeople.com/ Injured and loosing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5420443 So here we go again after a bit of MIA time. Ruptured the cartilage in my knee and so am unable to exercise properly. With overeating an no exercise the weight piled on. SO back i came and logged everything and a 10lb weight loss. on my first week. Bit high but it is my first week after nothing for months. Does give me a buffer on my plan so any plateau weeks should balance out. Sun, 14 Jul 2013 06:49:56 EST Back to the running.. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5227409 Have started a training program that should have be running a 5k in a decent time. It is set out with three runs a week but I am trying to fast track and I have a bit of a base level of fitness so I did the first two sessions. Out for an hour and feeling better than when I was trying to run on my own.

Some times it is worth going back to basics Mon, 28 Jan 2013 15:46:12 EST Running...or at least trying http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5215756 SO went for a jog on tuesday and went out again tonight. Spend more time walking than jogging at the moment but I'm out and about. I have an app on my phone that breaks up older play lists so it makes being out a little fresher every time and fun. There is a 5k training app I have as well so instead of the gym I have these.

Have also treated myself to a pair of running shoes. I have some nice gear to keep me warm so even if there is a little more cold weather to come I have no exc... Sun, 20 Jan 2013 15:41:15 EST Beep test... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5205097 So went out today and did the beep test over a 15m distance. Wet grass, snow falling and still did it. Didn't do very well though, got to 6.2. That gives me a Vo2 score of 33.6. The range for people my age is 44-47. So another challenge is set for myself. Sun, 13 Jan 2013 13:53:41 EST Illness and recovery http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5108681 So been ill with a virus for a fortnight and getting back to fitness now. Going to leave insanity for a little longer but back to rugby training (only missed one session though). Mon, 22 Oct 2012 15:46:44 EST Insanity Day 4... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5094329 Stretches done today... was more like a power yoga session hard work but a break from the massive cardio work. Still keeping on it and going strong Wed, 10 Oct 2012 17:37:38 EST Insanity Day 2.. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5091595 Just finished the first insanity workout. Was hard but not really bad. I think it is comparable to some of the boxfit or rugby training sessions I have done, the difference is this is scheduled for 60 days every day. The other is this is a 40min sessions where as the others are an hour so you do work harder for the time you put into it. In the second month the sessions get longer.

Will wait and see what happens as the week goes on.

Mon, 8 Oct 2012 16:42:16 EST Insanity Day 1... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5090381 Just done the fitness test for insanity. It's hard, but I did a bit better than I thought I would do. The good news is as this is a base line test I can only get better as well. Recovered fairly quickly as well so the rugby training I have done recently is showing.

Add to this a 7lb weight loss for the week all seems good. Sun, 7 Oct 2012 18:59:53 EST Rugby training week 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5066411 Tackling training last night. Nowhere near as sore today as I was last Wednesday. and that was only a light contact night. Due to the weather staying in and doing some home workouts. Wed, 19 Sep 2012 13:14:54 EST Day off work.. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5062656 But not the gym, been there and done the stuff. Back in tomorrow morning and then rugby training in the evening. Just keeping rolling at the moment. Mon, 17 Sep 2012 07:07:53 EST Rest Day... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5061194 So last weeks training went dance central, rugby, gym, rugby, circuits and boxfit and then running the line at a rugby match.

Today after pushing my body I am having a day off. Covered in bruises and full of aches and pains, same again this week. Sun, 16 Sep 2012 06:44:08 EST pushing on http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5058002 Back to rugby training tonight did a light gym session last night. Biking to work as well. All going well with the weights. Onwards and upwards. Thu, 13 Sep 2012 18:03:51 EST Back on the pitch. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5054802 So back from my first rugby training session, and the claret has run. Split lip but not dead as I thought I might have been. So back on thursday and gym for the rest of the week.

rugby twice a week and boxfit as well as gym and other kinect stuff, if variety is the spice of life I'm on curry!! Tue, 11 Sep 2012 17:10:04 EST Dancing bear... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5052817 Had a blast tonight embarrassing my eldest girl with dance central. You can teach a bear to dance....it ain't pretty but it burns calories. he he he!! Mon, 10 Sep 2012 15:29:42 EST Starting Sept http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5050637 So the kids are back in school and the chance to settle into a routine is here. The start of the week and I have been out on the bike and heading to the gym later. I am looking to get to rugby training twice a week and still head to the gym. Another trick I want to try is to get tea planned the day before to help me plan calories for the day. Sun, 9 Sep 2012 07:43:50 EST Starting September http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5041326 so August was an up and down month. Lost a stone in one week and put 8lb back on. The kids are back in school this week and a routine should be easier to settle into. Time to adjust the weights in my strength training and try to get a meal plan going...at least knowing what will be for tea the night before will help me on the calorie front. Sun, 2 Sep 2012 15:21:22 EST Temptation and motivation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5027463 So you go to the gym you count calories and see a result, but then the naughty foods start calling and the gym seems like a grind. I had one of those days yesterday but watched the food and then dragged myself to the gym. When I got there some one that had come to a class I did for a while was leaving and said I looked as though I had lost weight. RESULT!!

Workout done and back home makes the sweat worth it. Thu, 23 Aug 2012 07:48:28 EST Weight Seesaw.. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5022025 After being disappointed last week with a three pound gain, logging calories and doing my gym workouts I have just weighed in. I have lost a stone in a week when I missed the gym...admittedly calories have been counted and I have been better at staying within range but my diet didn't suddenly get that lower.

I have found in the past diets are funny things and I am happy there is a loss this week. That it is bigger than I expected is even better. Sun, 19 Aug 2012 16:15:01 EST Exercise may be good for you..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5021597 But getting to the gym and back can be bad for you. In the rain today as I was coming back from the gym I managed to come off my push bike. Coming round a corner I rode over a wet manhole cover 230 , or some iron work, my bike skidded out from under me and I ended up lay in the road. Result one bent brake lever a few rattles and squeak's but one fairly safe me.

Thanks to a hard work out, 104 , and a jaccuzi and steam room followed by a hot shower I think I avoide... Sun, 19 Aug 2012 09:51:10 EST Working things out.. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5019591 Had a hectic week and have managed to keep a calorie journal even if the gym has been missed. Last time round this would have been the sort of thing that would have derailed the effort. Hopefully there will be a loss on sunday Fri, 17 Aug 2012 14:31:37 EST Week 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5013833 Starting to feel really hungry during the day on the shakes. Hopefully I can work through this and my portion control will be improved. Will have to do a workout at home tomorrow night, can't get to the gym and couldn't do it tonight. Mon, 13 Aug 2012 15:50:53 EST Weigh-in 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5012419 First weigh in after re-boot and gained 3lbs. Bit gutted but had a bad week in general with at least 3 days calories over total. Started to lay the foundations and now time to fine tune things.

Onwards and downwards, for the weight that is!! Sun, 12 Aug 2012 17:56:37 EST Skip a day... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5011223 Was at a rugby match last night and blew my calories. Have learnt a lesson and will try to get either a slow cooker meal when going out or have quick meal staples in the cupboard...Had to switch gym to tomorrow but not a real issue.

Starting to feel really tired as not being able to sleep properly due to the hot weather. Hopefully this will change soon, like summer but also like sleep!! Sat, 11 Aug 2012 18:40:51 EST Blogging on... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5008536 Was out today early did my strength training and a 30min X-trainer warm up, after riding my bike for a mile to get to the gym. After a shower and dry, which by the time I got home looked like I hadn't dried off, slobbed around for a bit and then spent a bit of time out with the kiddies. Got nice and red in the sun and also found out that I quite like Nordic Walking.

Will have to do some web crawling to find out if there are any people near me that do it. Around £30 for a pair of p... Thu, 9 Aug 2012 16:50:34 EST Reboot continued http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5007111 So did ok today. Logged everything as and when I ate it and came in under my calories. I have started to use shakes. They make the logging easier as I know what I have had for breakfast and dinner. These are also rather filling when hunger is hitting. Hopefully they will help me reduce my rather large appetite. Wed, 8 Aug 2012 18:22:49 EST Never Quit http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5006107 Never Quit Pledge
Tuesday, August 07, 2012

Today, I promise I will not quit.

I pledge that no matter, how many ups and downs I pass through, I will continue on my journey.

I pledge to make a NEW START today, and forgive myself for my past, and to stop being so critical of myself.

I pledge to take control of myself, to stop making excuses, and stop blaming other people or situations.

I pledge to treat myself as I would my best friend,... Wed, 8 Aug 2012 05:10:40 EST Reboot Day 3 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5005542 So second day of weights and wasn't so bad today, can really tell the difference in strength between my arms.

Fell into an age old trap yesterday, log everything you eat or drink when you eat or drink it!!! I have the diet app on my mobile so there is no excuse, but I had a fizzy drink with some medication and forgot to log it. Come the end of the night all calories tracked and desert eaten when the fizzy drink rears it's head and my calories are blown again. Still lesson learned.... Tue, 7 Aug 2012 18:12:14 EST Stumble http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5003640 So second day of reboot and guess what, feeling off again. Dodgy stomach and temperature. Feeling better later on in the day. Will be trying to get to the gym tomorrow, better late than never....better avoiding injury as well. Had a nightmare resetting SP page and over ran calories for my weight loss it kept resetting calorie intake from what I had set. Ah well got a week to make it back. Mon, 6 Aug 2012 14:42:15 EST ReBoot.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5001707 So having started the reboot yesterday and starting the week as I mean to go on. Tracking calories and got a strength training program set up. Did it for the first time yesterday and it was OK, feeling it today but not as bad as I thought it would be. A little stiff and sore but feeling good. Sun, 5 Aug 2012 09:54:00 EST Working... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4430980 So having blasted through calories eaten today, but also having blasted through calories burnt for the week (may have to change this!). Not worrying too much with four days biking to and from work with another session at the gym and some stuff at home. The odd treat doesn't hurt, as long as you don't go over board or beat yourself up about it! Tue, 16 Aug 2011 17:21:14 EST Mondays.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4428789 So kids are off....overslept for swim in the morning and other half works late. Still did New U workout ate under cal count. All in all a good day. Walked into town centre and back, around a mile each way, with kids so not a total couch potato day!! Mon, 15 Aug 2011 17:24:28 EST Tracking http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4424934 In the past I tracked exercise and food in different areas. The route planner is great as it allows me to show my route and then uses my weight from the site to work out calories, things I have used in the past just seemed to pick a figure out of the sky that did not take weight into consideration. Sat, 13 Aug 2011 16:59:10 EST 5K run http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4422445 So the other sunday completed a 5K charity run. Time was around 45 mins and completed evry obstacle that was on the course. Target was below 1 hour so very happy. Also kicked off a return to the gym after working away a bit and being ill. Fri, 12 Aug 2011 09:07:38 EST Holiday off http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3760104 Autumn half term has been and gone. Kids off and the other half ill all week it was had to keep up with the gym. This slipped and my weight gained a pound. Getting back on track now but the weather has been against me, using some home stuff to work out but need to go for a swim... Wed, 3 Nov 2010 18:29:20 EST Week 5 end http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3739464 So after a harder week than the rest I still managed to loose another 6bls. Now tipping the scales at 19st 12.5lbs. Only 9lbs of the 10% target weight loss for the course I am doing. Hopefully these changes are becoming set for when the course ends. Rather than being a diet the course is a lifestyle change with the education and support to make it stick. The duration is twelve weeks.

All is going well so far so hopefully things will stay this way. 9 Mon, 25 Oct 2010 15:30:55 EST Happy sunday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3736256 WHat a great sunday so far. Been to the gym, working at 5mph on the treadmill now aiming for 30 mins. Up to 40 lengths in the pool. The sun is out, caught most of the F1 and now an afternoon of football watching my two hometown sides play.

Pork for tea as well. Good days. Sun, 24 Oct 2010 07:49:48 EST Day of rest http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3730971 So after a hectic start to the week it's time to have a rest. Have done a bit of something every day this week. Managed to do 3 sets of 20 arm exercises yesterday. Will struggle to fit that in tomorrow so will make a determined effort to do them on saturday.

Aside from that not a lot to report today. Thu, 21 Oct 2010 13:16:16 EST Going Swimming...ly http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3726534 So today I have done some strength training. 2 sets of 20 reps of resistance band exercises for my triceps and biceps. Nipped to the gym and got 40 lengths in 20-25 minutes.

Things are going well on the fitness front. Tue, 19 Oct 2010 17:38:43 EST Stone gone!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3723250 Eight pounds gone this week with 1st 1lb lost in total. After one month the numbers are getting big. Now it might be time to look at toning up as hopefully the inches will start falling now as well.

244 Mon, 18 Oct 2010 12:25:43 EST gym improvements http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3721130 Had a shorter gym session today but have increased the speed on the treadmill to 5mph only a slight increase but three weeks ago I wouldn't have said I could run 15 mins on a treadmill.

Tried a little trick as well, visualised a rugby player running away from me with the ball. Green and red hoops on the shirt, number 9. It's amazing how fast I was running, limited by the speed of the treadmill. Right at the front of the treadmill for 20 mins.

Guess some of the tricks do... Sun, 17 Oct 2010 15:30:26 EST Chilled http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3719337 So a nice chill at the gym. So far I have been concentrating on counting calories and working out. Tonight I was going to the gym to get an extra workout in but ended up talking a friend I have not spoken to for a while, and then just had a gentle swim and then a pamper time in the spa and steam room. After last week with no weight lost this has been a nice change and a bit of a re-focus as well. Sat, 16 Oct 2010 15:49:34 EST Me Time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3715458 I was at an award ceremony today. During this I thought about how we perceive ourselves. This started for me with a reminder of why I moved into my field of work. I work for the health service. A lot of the talk on here is about diet changes but people only really talk about image changes after they have lost a fair bit of weight.

I have been asked/told about image changes but I can't see it. When you stop and check things clothes are looser and other thing are noticeable. Just bec... Thu, 14 Oct 2010 15:44:06 EST Worked out http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3713447 So bit of a hard work out today but feeling good for it. Hopefully get another one in on saturday. Feeling like a nice long bike ride, weather permitting. Wed, 13 Oct 2010 17:39:58 EST Plodding on http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3710882 Back on the wagon after yesterdays disapointment. Went ot the gym but was late so missed out on swim. Going tomorrow for gym and swim. Got a busy end of the week coming up. Still enjoying the gym so thats half the battle I guess. Tue, 12 Oct 2010 16:40:56 EST Back http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3708039 So after missing the weekend blogs here we are after having a weigh in and not havign lost any weight.

Bit annoyed about that not knowing what went wrong. Counted calories and not cheated, after all your only cheating yourself if you do. Been to the gym and done some hard work there not just hanging around.

Ah well on to next week. Mon, 11 Oct 2010 14:48:55 EST Moving http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3699462 Quick one, am starting to notice clothes fitting better. Also think I can see a change round my shoulders and arms. Not sure about that though.

anyhow early night tonight. not got one in yet this week and could do wih one! Thu, 7 Oct 2010 13:49:46 EST Staying focused http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3696637 At dinner it looked horrible. Thunder and lightning and lashing rain. The gym looked like it would have to wait tonight, it's a long walk to get soaked and my gym bag isn't waterproof as I found out on sunday. I also don't have a waterproof coat at the moment, but a can of waterproofing spray will soon sort that out. As it is the rain stopped and off I go.

It would have been swimming only as my swimming kit will fit in my bike pannier and I wouldn't have got as wet. There is alway... Wed, 6 Oct 2010 12:17:54 EST Rest days. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3694583 So a day of rest from the gym, but not the bike. One of the good things about commuting on a bike is that my activity level doesn't drop too much of I don't go to the gym. Still around 1hr 20mins of exercise.

Avoiding public transport saves money as well. Tue, 5 Oct 2010 16:07:25 EST Another step.. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3691936 Up early to get into the gym. 45 mins cardio and then a swim in the evening. 30 lengths in 20 mins. Another 10 lengths in the same time. This time I'm not setting proper targets, to avoid being disappointed and getting demoralised, and just seeing what happens. So another step forward. Mon, 4 Oct 2010 16:26:31 EST Back to it http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3688416 After my treat night, which was good, back into the gym today. The lifestyle change I am doing with the help group is a calorie counting one and yesterday is the first time I have gone over the amount I can have. Not that I am beating myself up over it. Every other day I have been under by a couple of hundred calories. Weigh in tomorrow so we shall see if any damage has been done.

Today I have beat a little milestone I had set myself. A 45 minute workout means that I have worked o... Sun, 3 Oct 2010 08:45:40 EST
