MAMMABEAR-THIRY's SparkPeople Blog MAMMABEAR-THIRY's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community I DID IT!!! I walked the full route around the lake this morning.

I have never been an active person. As a child I wasn't allowed to go out run around and play as it was believed that I had a heart problem and that the stress of running and playing would be too much so I was taught to sew, crochet, knit to keep myself occupied as well as playing with barbie dolls, paper dolls and other sedative activities. I gained weight with each of my pregnancies and really didn't do much of anything to... Fri, 25 Nov 2016 00:55:01 EST Our anniversary dinner Our anniversary dinner

DH and I went out for supper tonight (5/20/15) for our anniversary. We talked with the waiter who asked if we had gone to the Garth Brooks concert when he saw my t-shirt. I told him yes and that we had eaten at the Outback for Mother's day before the concert. We also said that we were so impressed that when discussing where to eat for our anniversary we chose to return to the outback. He looked at us and asked if it was our anniversary and we said yes. He th... Thu, 21 May 2015 01:30:47 EST MY FIRST 5K Yesterday I walked my firs 5K. Anyone who knows me and my history over the past year will know what an accomplishment that is. Anyone who doesn’t know the history and is interested can check out the following past blogs: “near death experience”, “I have been sprung from the hospital today” and “Back in the Hospital again”.

The plans for this 5K started just before the first of the year when my BFF asked me my goals for this year. I told her that I wanted to rebuild my endurance... Sun, 22 Mar 2015 20:45:39 EST BACK IN THE HOSPITAL AGAIN Well I am back in the hospital. While I was in rehabilitation I was complaining about my calf muscles being so tight and was given stretches to do. I would do them but it didn't relieve the tightness much. As the week at home went on my calf kept getting more and more tight. Thursday night I noticed that my knee was starting to swell. I have had this happen before so didn't think too much about it as thought I might need a muscle relaxer and pain pills to get past the tight calf muscles.... Sun, 9 Mar 2014 21:59:40 EST I have been sprung from the hospital today To start, for anyone that read and commented on my blog “My near death experience”, I thank you all. I did post a comment in response to all your comments on the blog as it was taking a lot of energy even to type so in an effort to conserve energy I just did the one post.

After 3 ½ weeks in the hospital I finally got to come home today. It will be a long road to recovery even though I am home but sleeping in my own bed will be so great. I didn’t sleep well last night (awake abou... Sat, 1 Mar 2014 22:06:11 EST my NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE My daughter and I made a couple college visits on 1/29/14. I got really short of breath walking across campus that morning. I wasn’t bad at the afternoon visit. The next day I really didn’t feel well and only worked a couple hours before heading home to bed. On Friday I worked about 5-6 hours before heading home. On Saturday I went to the clinic and saw the doctor. I was given an antibiotic which I started taking right away. On Monday I didn’t go to work as I still wasn’t feeling well.... Fri, 21 Feb 2014 20:32:23 EST ONIONS The following article is long but very interesting. Since reading it and doing what it says with the onions none of us have been sick. I don't know if it is because of the onions or that we just haven't gotten infected by any "bugs". In addition to the article one of my co-workers also heard the same information on a talk show.

ONIONS! I had never heard this!!!
PLEASE READ TO THE END: IMPORTANT

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Do... Sat, 19 Jan 2013 01:34:41 EST MY MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND First off I want to say I hope all you mothers had a great Mother’s Day yesterday.
I had a very busy and emotional weekend. We left Norfolk Thursday (5-10-12) morning to head to Colorado for my son’s graduation from Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO on Friday. We checked into out room Thursday evening. Bethannie and I promptly changed and headed to the pool/whirlpool area for a while.

Friday morning we got dressed and headed to the school for the graduation. While sit... Mon, 14 May 2012 23:02:08 EST RAIN ANYONE????? My daughter had a soccer game scheduled at 2 pm this afternoon but about 9 am we got notified that the game was being postponed due to severe weather threat and the other team needing to travel about 2 hours to get here. About 1 pm I woke up to loud banging on the house due to rain & hail. This was about the time that the team would have been warming up if the game hadn't been postponed.

We just had a rain storm here this afternoon but looked more like a blizzard. We could bare... Sat, 14 Apr 2012 17:05:52 EST SOCCER SEASON HAS STARTED AGAIN Yesterday 3/20/12 was my daughters first soccer game of the season. It was a home game and they played on the new turf at Veterans Memorial fields here in town. It was the first time the girls played on the new astro turf. My daughter was apprehensive about playing on this new field but has decided that it was all right after all. The girls played a great game and won 4-0 in their season opener. My daughter had a good game although she didn't have much to do as the rest of the team kep... Wed, 21 Mar 2012 23:36:37 EST SIGH…..WHAT A DAY!!! I woke up this morning excited as this was homecoming day for my son. I got ready and left for work taking my daughter with me as we figured it wasn’t worth taking her to school and then go pick her up in an hour or so. We were turning off Norfolk Ave to head south to the office when the car in front of me slowed down and stopped instead of adjusting her speed and merging with the oncoming cars on the south bound street that we were entering. After the car passed the car in front of me sta... Wed, 7 Dec 2011 21:59:23 EST MY GAME DAY EXPERIENCE Saturday my co-worker took me to my first ever Nebraska football game. She came by the house and we left for Lincoln in my car since I get better gas mileage than she gets in her truck. We got to Lincoln about 2.5-3 hours before the game was scheduled to start. We parked several blocks away from the stadium and walked toward the stadium. We took a detour and went to the university bookstore. On our walk to the bookstore I just couldn’t believe all the people on the street. Some of them ... Tue, 8 Nov 2011 00:59:45 EST ANOTHER FALLEN SOLDIER We have had another soldier in the area die. This makes 2 soldiers in three months. The first one was a member of my son's unit who died while home on leave for the birth of his daughter. The baby was only a month old when he died of unknown cause. There has been an autopsy and other tests but they still don't know what caused this otherwise healthy 27 year old soldier to loose weight and die so suddenly.

Last Saturday another soldier, 22 year old Josh Mann, a 2007 graduate of... Thu, 4 Aug 2011 19:46:17 EST 2 WEEKS OVER ALL READY It has gone by so fast. It is so hard to believe that is has been 2 weeks since my son came home on leave from Afghanistan. It has been a really busy 2 week between his plans and activities along with my 2 jobs which had me working every day that he was home so we didn’t get to see him as much as we would have like to. I took him his mail the Wednesday evening that he checked into the motel here in Norfolk, and had supper with him the next evening but then didn’t see him until the family g... Wed, 6 Jul 2011 18:54:48 EST WHAT A WEEK!!!! This has been a really wild week. I always say it has been a zoo at the office but this week has been a triple zoo. On Monday my daughter and I went to the office at the normal time as when I was talking to my assistant she said that the boss said we were going to be open. We got there and nobody else showed up and the most surprising part was that the phone didn’t ring at all in the first 2.5 hours while we were there. About 10:30 my sister came and picked us up so we all could attend th... Thu, 2 Jun 2011 21:59:19 EST NOT A GOOD REPORT AT THE DENTAL COLLEGE Monday (May 23rd) my daughter and I went to the dental college in Lincoln. She was there for her dental procedure which involved a graft behind her lower teeth. I wanted to see about see about getting a new cap for my front tooth as the one I currently have is broken. Sun, 29 May 2011 18:23:32 EST EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER It has been an emotional week for our family. Last Wednesday we got news that my husband’s oldest son and his wife had a new baby boy. This is their second child. They have a daughter that will be 4 in August. When I got off work Saturday morning we headed for Blair to see the baby and the rest of the family. We also had hopes of seeing his other boys while we were there but his one son had worked overnight and was sleeping so we didn’t get to see him before we had to leave for my 2 meet... Wed, 18 May 2011 22:23:16 EST FRUSTRATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just can’t believe how the last few days have gone. Tuesday we had my car to the shop because the sunroof wouldn’t close so needed to get it fixed as it was raining every day. Wednesday started off as usual. I took my daughter to school and headed to work but that is when things changed for the worse. I was just about to work when I noticed that my car was overheating. My water level light has been coming on a lot over the last month or two but every time the levels were checked they w... Fri, 22 Apr 2011 19:28:03 EST GLAD THE SOCCER GAME WAS OVER Earlier this afternoon we were at the soccer field for the Lutheran High girls and boys soccer games. My daughter didn't get to play today as she got hurt at the game Thursday night. She was playing goalie and collided with a girl from the other team. She went down and when she didn't get up right away I knew she was hurt as she usually gets right back up. The trainer thinks she has a bad bruise of her peck muscle in her right shoulder and said no practice on Friday and no game on Saturda... Sat, 9 Apr 2011 21:49:57 EST I AM PROUD OF MY DAUGHTER Yesterday (Tuesday, March 23, 2011) she played her first high school soccer game. This was a record day for the whole school as this is the first year that the have their own soccer team instead of cooping with the public school here in Norfolk. She started the game as goalie. The first part of the month we weren't sure if she was even going to be able to play the first few games after she collapsed at soccer practice the second day of practice. We ended up taking her to the chiropractor ... Thu, 24 Mar 2011 08:11:29 EST OMG!!!!!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED As many of you who have read my last blog know I have taken on the task of trying to find out if there is enough interest in the Norfolk area for a military emotional support group. Well Tuesday I wore my USA FREEDOM CALLS sweatshirt to work. While at work a woman came in to pay for her son's storage unit. While we were taking care of the payment and the receipt she asked about my sweatshirt. I then told her that the 189th TC was my sons unit he was in when he was in Iraq in 2005-2006 and... Wed, 23 Feb 2011 03:36:43 EST ADDING TO MY PLATE First off I want to thank everyone that has comment on some of my past posts as I have been so busy that I haven't had the time to respond. I greatly appreciate all the support that all you give me.

The latest is that my son's unit left Ft. Bragg Monday night. Bragg training for his deployment to Afghanistan. They should go in country sometime around the beginning of February. He did a tour of Iraq while in a different unit. Tue, 18 Jan 2011 01:40:56 EST SAD WEEK Monday 1/3/11 we took a trip to Omaha to attend the send off ceremony for my son's unit, 195th Forward Support Company. The ceremony was short and to the point with the Governor of Nebraska attending along with one of our State Senators. a Representative, a couple retired dignitaries of the military and a few others. After the ceremony the Governor stayed around, spoke with many family members and even took pictures with many of them including myself & daughter and myself & my husband. My ... Tue, 4 Jan 2011 08:00:38 EST MIA AT THE MOMENT Just a quick note to let everyone know that I am doing fine but really busy at the moment. I have started a new job in my town so I am not traveling to the job at the school any longer. In addition to that we were given 30 day notice to move on October 19 and have since found a place to live so last weekend we started moving. We moved most of the stuff last weekend but still have some things to move yet this weekend. In addition to that I didn't get the internet up at the new place until ... Fri, 12 Nov 2010 18:36:14 EST I'M SO EXCITED, I JUST CAN'T HIDE IT OMG what a week. Last night I took a call on my DH phone as he forgot it. The call was from the landlord. She has had her house on the market for quite some time and has finally gotten an offer on it. If everything goes through the new owner wants to take possession of the place on nn-24-10. That means we have to find a place and be moved out by then. We have been looking here and there but haven’t found anything that is within our budget that is big enough and not a dump. Last night ... Mon, 11 Oct 2010 02:41:57 EST MY TIME WITH MY BFF On Saturday my BFF (Sheila) arrived about 11:30 am to pick me up. We loaded my stuff in her pickup and headed out on our get away. It rained all the way to Fremont where we decided to go. We decided to stay in Fremont because that is where we lived when we met and we were both so happy there. Thu, 2 Sep 2010 19:28:14 EST AN EVENTFUL MORNING As I wrote in my previous blog (AMERICAN HERO) earlier this morning I was working at the motel. This weekend we had the Nebraska Vietnam Veterans in house and they requested that the motel staff wear their conference t-shirt. I wasn't there when they checked in on Thursday night and nobody thought to get me a t-shirt to wear this weekend while they were there. I was told that Jim (the full time night auditor) didn't want to wear the shirt but they stood there until he put it on. I told D... Sun, 15 Aug 2010 10:44:36 EST AMERICAN HERO I am at work at the motel tonight. We have the Nebraska Vietnam Veterans in house for the annual conference. Sun, 15 Aug 2010 02:49:42 EST MY SON GAVE ME SOME NEWS TONIGHT I got a call from my son earlier today to let me know about a decision he has made before he posted it on his facebook page. Thu, 12 Aug 2010 00:52:36 EST WHAT A DAY SO FAR This morning my son Trevor picked me and Bethannie up and we headed to O'neil for the funeral of Joanna's mom. We met Joanna several years ago when she was matched with Trevor as a Big Sister through the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BB?BS) program. They were the first cross match here in Norfolk. They were matched for about 5 years until it was ended as she moved away from the Norfolk area after her graduation from Wayne State College. Sat, 3 Jul 2010 13:06:23 EST GOING TO BE GONE FOR A FEW DAYS Just a note to let all of you know I will be without my computer again for a few days. When I got it back a couple weeks ago I noticed that there was a clicking by the hinge area when I opened and closed the computer and that it was difficult to open it when it was closed completely. Last Friday I noticed that the left side of the monitor was pulling apart. I called the repair and talked to them about it as it wasn't like that when I sent it in to get repaired after it crashed in May. The... Tue, 22 Jun 2010 08:58:42 EST NORTHEAST NEBRASKA FLOOD PHOTOS I have loaded a bunch of the flood photographs that my son took while touring the area in a Blackhawk helecopter with his boss on Wednesday afternoon. Luckily that ended without anyone getting injured or killed. Then there was the house fire where 2 children were killed earlier this year. We knew the children’s family in that tragedy. Now we are having flooding in the southern part of our community and had a railroad bridge collapse causing 3 railroad workers to fall into the rushing flood waters of the Elkhorn river. One of... I had a really long day after very little sleep so that may be playing into my being so emotional about what happened. Friday I worked at the hospital for my temp position getting off about 3:30 at which time I went to pick up my check, cash it and pay a couple bills. I then went home and went to bed to try to sleep as I had to work my night audit job at 11 pm. I think I got about 2-2.5 hours of sleep before I had to get up to go to w... Sun, 9 May 2010 04:25:47 EST PLEASE PRAY FOR MY FRIEND Last Sunday while I was at work my co-worker and friend came in for her breakfast shift. She came in, got the grocery list together and went to the store. When she got back she brought in the groceries and then parked her vehicle. After bringing the groceries to the kitchen she was so winded she said she had to sit down. While sitting there she said she felt like she could throw up, a heavy pressure on her chest, pain down her left arm and felt like she could pass out. Now this is the sa... Fri, 30 Apr 2010 00:43:22 EST CLOSURE We were dealing with some major stress last week which came from dealing with the memories of our house fire after hearing of a house fire that happened early Tuesday morning. The major difference between this fire and our fire was the fact that 2 children lost their lives in the fire last week. We know the grandparents of the 2 kids. All this happened just 1 week before the anniversary of my dad’s death so we are dealing with that 1st anniversary stuff also. On Friday I went to the funer... Tue, 20 Apr 2010 00:21:50 EST LOTS OF MEMORIES & EMOTIONS This is turning out to be a week of lots of memories and emotions. The week started off well with my working at my temporary position at the hospital. Monday night was working on SparkPeople and going to bed so I could get up for work in the morning. I got to work and was talking with some of the other people there only to hear about a house fire that happened about 1 am. I found out that the house burned to the ground. This brought back a flood of memories from when my house burned in J... Thu, 15 Apr 2010 00:20:20 EST I LIKE THIS EXPLANATION With time, women gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room, it distributes out
to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy.

Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror

I will think,

Good grief, look how smart I am!

Must be where 'Smart Ass' came from!

Fri, 9 Apr 2010 00:07:27 EST READY TO THROW IN THE TOWEL I don’t know why but I didn’t sleep worth a hoot Friday night. I was awake every 1.5-2 hours all night and then Bethannie called about 7:30 am to be picked up from the church as the lock-in was over. I picked her up and tried to go back to sleep but after another 1.5-2 hours I said the heck with it, got up and started sorting some of the stuff in front of the buffet in the dining room. I spent the day sorting the big box along with 2 small boxes that I had Bethannie bring in from the car. ... Sun, 4 Apr 2010 11:15:29 EST CONFIRMATION 3-28-10 Ok confirmation is over an I am finally getting some pictures uploaded. After church we went to my sisters for the party. We had a root beer keg and lots of food. We didn't have as many people show up as we had expected so we had lots of food left over.
