Some Thoughts and Motivation
It has been a busy summer, but I have done a pretty good job of sticking to my plan. Exercise has become a daily habit - one that I miss on the occasional days that I don't do anything! My body is slowly changing. I am down a couple of sizes and lots of muscles are re-emerging. My feet, ankles, and lower legs have stopped swelling and my blood pressure is down. My stomach is no longer bloated and... Thu, 28 Jul 2016 09:17:49 EST A memorable moment!
About 3 weeks ago, I couldn't even walk up my driveway without huffing and puffing. Today I walked 5 miles... The longest distance I have gone since I stopped running 10 years ago. 2.5 miles each way... I am tired but I feel fantastic.🎉 Thu, 9 Jun 2016 10:17:37 EST Silver Lake Morning
Ducks, Canada geese, turtles, and swooping barn swallows accompanied me as I walked around the old mill lake. Scents of water, rain in the distance, and green, growing things. Soft air all around, and sounds of animals and birds waking. It's been a nice morning so far. Wed, 8 Jun 2016 08:33:02 EST Walking with my 5 senses
While walking along our little road a few days ago, I noticed something amazing. All of my senses were fully engaged. Birdsong, the chattering of busy squirrels, and the far-off hum of a lawn mower filled my ears. Spicy forest scents mingled with the sweetness of wild roses and blossoming blackberry vines. Lovely morning light and deep shadows played through the trees, and my pup and I encounte... Don't work...come outside! As much as I would love to, I have a deadline to meet. I'm feeling a little distracted, daydreaming about some of the REALLY fun ways I could be spending time being more active. Here are ten that are just a little out of the ordinary.

31. Learn to Scuba dive - I love, love, love to dive. When I was smaller, and lived by the ocean, it was... Fri, 27 Jan 2012 11:02:34 EST 100 Fun Ways to Be More Active: 21 - 30 Springtime is coming, and it's time to start planting gardens in some places; gardeners like me who live in cooler areas are still staring out at frost and snow covered patches of ground that still slumber. This morning, as I walked out to feed my chickens, I decided to write today's activity blog post in honor of gardens and gardening. Here we go!

21. Greenhouses and garden shops are a wonderful place to find inspiration and get a little walking in. If you live in a city with ... Wed, 25 Jan 2012 08:37:16 EST 100 Fun Ways to Be More Active: 11-20 Today is a rainy, sort of bleary looking day outside, which has me thinking of ten rainy-day appropriate yet fun ways to build more activity into your life. Hope you like them!

11. Go to the mall, and go SHOPPING. Whether you plan to buy anything or not, shopping is a nice way to look at new styles and imagine the way your new clothes will look on you when you fit into a smaller size. Avoid eating anything un-sparky at the food court! 346

12. Try a free da... Tue, 17 Jan 2012 13:12:36 EST 100 Fun Ways to Be More Active: 1-10 Some of my best ideas come to me while I'm walking, or while I'm in the shower afterward. This morning, I had a doozy! Why not write short daily blog entries, instead of holding off until midweek to work on my SP blog? With no further ado, here is the first entry. Feedback welcome!

A brief warning: Once you start to be more active, you'll find it difficult to stop, particularly if you build up to higher levels of activity slowly, without burning yourself out.

You'... Mon, 16 Jan 2012 11:49:59 EST Happy Birthday to Me! My Natural Appetite Has Returned! Having had to ration my Spark People activity and focus on work lately has been a little tough. Today, though, I noticed that my natural appetite has returned, and a wonderful thing that is, so I couldn't resist sharing. Plus, it's my birthday, so I decided to cut myself a break and write a quick blog entry instead of working on other stuff all afternoon.

If you Google "Natural Appetite", like I just did, to see if there really is such a thing, you might be disappointed. I looke... Wed, 11 Jan 2012 15:21:05 EST 10.1 Pounds GONE, Faster Than I Ever Thought Possible Thanks to Spark People and the motivation my new friends have given me, plus a super steady exercise routine and eating plan, I lost my first 10.1 pounds in just one week.

Before you freak out and wonder if I have developed an eating disorder, let me say that most of it was water weight; I had edema in my legs when I started and now they are back to normal. I lost the first 7 pounds in just 2 days. The last 3 came off at what I would consider to be a normal rate. I have a lot ... Fri, 6 Jan 2012 09:04:38 EST Perspective Matters; or, Why We Need Our Friends I found the following story on the back of a box of Celestial Seasonings tea, of all places. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I did paraphrase to comply with rules and regulations, and you'll find a link to the Celestial Seasonings website attached. It's wonderful! Besides information about their products, they have a very nice blog. Everything is put together with gorgeous graphic work.

(Did I mention that I love tea?)

469

"They... Thu, 5 Jan 2012 19:35:19 EST Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea Add some stevia, and drink up. So darn good, especially on a freezing cold evening like this one. I'm sitting in Barnes and Noble, getting a little work done in a place where I can see other faces, since tonight's choir practice has been cancelled. This tea is the same stuff Starbucks carries and it is delicious. I took a look at the teabags and they're filled with hunks of orange zest and big pieces of cinnamon, which is good for aiding with appetite control. LOVE IT. That's all, folk... Mon, 2 Jan 2012 19:15:34 EST WAAAAAH!!!!!! I Measured Myself!!!!!! Your Turn!!!!!! You Can Do it Even W/Out a Tape Measure! What a wakeup call. Oy. I have a frightening waist to hip ration of .98, a scary apple shape and a family history of heart disease. The good news is that this is as BAD as it gets. Never again will I allow my health to spiral out of control this way.

Before I start, let me share a little trip down memory lane with y'all. When I was a chubby child, my well-intentioned mother used to measure me, tsk-tsking her way through the process. She put me on the Atkins diet, along with... It is incredibly inspiring to see how you have made such positive changes.

A little story about me: I have never really enjoyed having my photo taken. I tend to hide from the camera. Last night, after my workout, the locker room at Gold's was empty. I took out my Droid and snapped t... Sat, 31 Dec 2011 13:15:59 EST Hi Spark World, I Have 100 Pounds to Lose. Here's My Story. Wow. All I can say is, Wow. What the heck happened? I used to be a runner. I once ate carefully, albeit with gusto; and, I had an entire closet full of fantastic clothes to wear in sizes 6,8, and 10. Luckily, I still have that closet full of clothes; sadly, I can no longer fit into any of them. By the end of 2012, I hope to be saying hello to some of those old favorites again. Since my sense of style runs toward the classic, I'll still be able to enjoy wearing them once I get my body b... Thu, 29 Dec 2011 14:55:13 EST
