This year I didn't. I had one of the most stressful semesters of my law school career, including planing a huge party for school and a wedding! Now I'm married (hitched in Vegas by Elvis 12/20/2012) and looking at my wedding pictures and realizing I have gained back a lot of weight. How much? Turns out almost all of it. (WHA?! Crap.) So... now it is time ... Wed, 26 Dec 2012 17:30:39 EST Just wasted time? I'm thinking today about how to fit in workouts as well as all my other chores. As a law student, home maker, and law clerk I have a very busy life and some days at the end of the day you just want to come home and veg out.

What counts as extra activity? Is parking farther away really that helpful? Taking the stairs a few extra times when bringing up the groceries? Cleaning house? Kneading bread?

Running after work/school can seem like a challenge because of time iss... Thu, 4 Oct 2012 15:45:23 EST Saturday- a new day :) Here we are at the end of September and the start of a new fall when I seem to realize I need to do better about eating & health each year. I hope this year I can keep it up the full year. I have a big year to look forward to: last year of law school. Getting married. Taking the bar exam. Getting a job. Starting to try for babies!

Exciting and frightening all at once!

I had a rough start to my week when I found out my future mother-in-law made a negative comment about m... Sat, 29 Sep 2012 16:02:36 EST Some "risk-ay" motivation to burn some calories Enjoy this video! Very cute:

Fri, 21 Oct 2011 00:03:40 EST Facing the Scale and the Truth: Starting Over... Again. Back at Day 1. I have been in denial for a few months now. I have been very focused on school and feeling like I was eating ok and working out here and there. Probably enough I told myself. Drinking half a bottle of wine most days of the week and eating cookies (3-4) also fine. I'd run more this week... but then I didn't. Also we all know the "I'll run more" is pure nonsense and lies we tell ourselves to be able to eat that crap. The worst part is I kept buying this stuff at the store, and then once it is i... Sat, 15 Oct 2011 16:28:45 EST Mixing it up to bust the plateau! So... after one week (7days) of starting the 30 day shred with the idea of mixing my workout up a bit to bust my plateau I have done level one of the shred 5 days out of 7. Not too bad. I was just too dang sore to do it every day in a row, along with some tendinitis I had developed while learning handstands in yoga acting up I thought I should take a few days off.

Well, OFF is not exactly right... I decided why not mix it up even MORE?! Rather than be a couch potato on my off days... Wed, 13 Jul 2011 18:27:03 EST Plateau... meet 30 day shred! I have been thinking a lot about my plateau weight of 138 and how to bust it. I am hesitent to run at the moment because my knee and ankle are acting up. I read that sometimes a plateau is reached when your body gets used to your exercise routine. The 30 day shred is based on muscle "confusion," that is to say that it mixes it up so that your work out is super effective. I'm thinking this may just be the thing I need to "shake it up."

So I am now on day 2 of level 1 and so far I d... Thu, 7 Jul 2011 22:00:18 EST Being called "Fat" So in a recent conversation someone close to me confessed that they think I look "fat." They did not say this with the intention of hurting me, but they said this because they honestly think I look fat. This came as a crushing blow to my self image as I thought through that conversation today. I have been feeling like I am no super model but that I have come a long way. I have worked really hard and I am at a very thin weight for my own self. To myself I think I am semi-thin with room for imp... Sat, 2 Jul 2011 02:29:25 EST Weigh in & trying out the Progress Photos I thought I'd try the photo thing. So I am posting some progress photos on my blog today. My scale refuses to move but I did loose a half inch in a few places. I am hoping that I can get past my 138 "sticky" weight. It is a place my body in the past likes to hold on to for dear life. Anyone else have a sticky weight?

Anyhow, here are the photos:

<img src=" Wed, 1 Jun 2011 18:57:01 EST Not giving myself ANY excuses! Hey there sparkers!

I am the queen of excuses and justifications. I can convince myself that almost anything is a good idea, including but not limited to: eating a whole large pizza, not exercising, and not doing chores. My excuses range from, "you've been so good all week, you deserve that whole pizza. Besides you can burn it off (lie)" to "it sure is (cold/rainy/cloudy/hot) out today. I think I'd better not go for that run" and the ever popular, "Get up at 9:00 am on a Saturday ... Sun, 29 May 2011 04:48:55 EST Visiting Tahoe (my home town) I'm in Tahoe for a visit. I am visiting my family here. I have not been back since I left for school in August last year. The drive was rough with my cat Lucy. She hates the car! But I made it here safe and sound.

I went for a run yesterday but forgot one thing: altitude! I forgot that I am no longer adapted to the high altitude. I remembered half way through my first mile as I started huffing and puffing as if I was speeding through my tenth mile! What a difference. I was trying ... Wed, 25 May 2011 18:59:25 EST First year of Law School is DONE! Finals took a toll on my weight progress ... just a bump in the ro Monday I took my last final of my 1L (first year) career. I did very well my first semester, landing in the top 6% of my class. Some might think that this would take some of the stress off: thinking that success in your first semester would help you feel at ease for your second. While it felt great and was very reassuring to know that my hard work was paying off and knowing that I have what it takes to do well, there was more to it. I had a whole new pressure: stay in the top ten percent and ... Wed, 18 May 2011 16:51:44 EST starting the gateway to 8K pod-runner and 2 more weeks of boot-camp challenge I have finished 2 weeks of the 28 day boot camp chalange and I have been loving it :) I really feel stronger and I lost an inch off my belly so far. I have been running 4 miles and want to get up to a 10 K when I can. March would be nice because there is a great 10K race in SD. I am going to try the gateway to 8 K and see how I like it. I have been loving the Jeff Galloway run-walk intervals on the motiontrax podcast so I'm hoping I'll like this one just as much and it will start pushing m... Mon, 17 Jan 2011 00:26:29 EST Orientation and settling in So, this week I had orientation. It was held at the Weston in the gas lamp district (fancy digs). We had to dress up and be there all day for three days (ish). We were given information overload!! But we did get some cool free stuff and free food. The highlights are that I did my DMV summit exercise (and thanks to you who helped me) thinking it was required but turns out it was optional. LOL... but it is good that I did it. I got a perfect score on it, my name went up on the screen with those... Mon, 16 Aug 2010 15:42:17 EST New Home new life I'm all moved in to my new place. Ali helped me a TON. The place is really small so it took a ton of work to get it all together. But at last it is starting to feel like home. I'm fairly sure all my hard work on the place was cardio enough! LOL. This week I will spend getting ready for law school, and next week I start! What a busy and exciting/scary time :) My goals this week are simply to make at least 10-20 minutes for fitness and eat healthy. I finally got my mini fridge and groceries. I ... Sun, 8 Aug 2010 18:20:01 EST Packing and such I have been so sick for most of the week. I really only got one work out in. The good news is that this rest has been really good for my knee. It is feeling much better! Weight has been magically falling off the past week, 1/2 a pound a day! Today it went back up a 1/2 so go figure! It will be a busy week for me because I move on Tuesday! Yep, only a few short days left. I have not packed much at all and have not even finished my 1st assignment that is due online by the 4th. Yep, I already ha... Sat, 31 Jul 2010 23:40:33 EST Runners: this injury is common!! Treatment and prevention. So my knee pain is PES ANSERINE BURSITIS aka "runner's knee." It is good news because it does not need surgery. But I did some research on it. The link below has an explanation of the injury as well as at the bottom of the page there is a link to some exercises that help treat and prevent it. If you run, you should check it out so you don't hurt your knee like I did (it sucks).

tion/pesbur.html

As far as weight loss goes the w... Tue, 27 Jul 2010 17:09:45 EST sure enough trip=weight gain=heart break So... I did find a great place that is within my budget. I have just started using the spark people budget thing and I love it. My new place is in a great area for running once my knee is better. This is all the good news.

The bad news is all the hard work I've done was for nothing because I gained it all back in one short week of being unable to use spark and unable to work out or eat my own food at home. Eating out is so bad because you have no idea what is being put in your foo... Sun, 25 Jul 2010 17:22:37 EST Another trip... but I just lost the weight I gained on the last one!!! I'm heading to San Diego tomorrow at the crack o dawn to find a place to live. Hopefully it will not be another Vegas situation and another weight gain. I just finally got barely under 140... 139.5! I don't think i could take it if I have to go back up again. :p SO... I have to be really good and make good choices on my trip. I will be really busy and really broke!! In Vegas it was the $2.99 food deals that got me. But at least there is Ocean and the BF will be Surfing so hopefully there will... Sun, 18 Jul 2010 18:52:59 EST Wish I could run... but I'm still having some pain so no running. SAD face. Wii is my cardio for now, but I might do palates on the ball today. I've done all my ST and worked really hard this week. I really hope I get some results! I keep looking out at the beautiful day wishing i could run. It is such a nice summer!! It is too bad I'm having a hard time enjoying it because all I can think about is fall, money, where to live, how to move, how much work it is going to be and so on. UGG! :) Fri, 16 Jul 2010 17:31:26 EST Calorie differentials, the evils of diet soda, and my day I finally figured out the whole daily calorie differential issue. It made me realize how critical your daily burn is and how bad one day of bad eating can be for the week. If you are interested in this issue I found the info here:

geboard.asp?imboard=7&imparent=18445593

The yard sale was not as successful as one would hope. I think it might be an old fashioned thing. Craig's list individual item selling and seem to be the wa... Sun, 11 Jul 2010 15:59:17 EST A beautiful day for a yard sale Well, today is the yard sale. I'm outside all day so I'm happy it is the most beautiful day in the history of ever. Not so many sales sadly :( I've just made enough to cover the cost of holding the dang sale. I guess I can be glad to be rid of some Oncejunk. That is one thing to be happy about. I can't move all this stuff with me. Getting rid of extra stuff is always nice. Stress wise I'm freaking out about money and moving. Because I can't do much about ether one at the moment I'm trying my ... Sat, 10 Jul 2010 14:42:07 EST cheesy popcorn is the devil and it is banned from my house! I love the stuff, and yes, it is OK in moderation. But I can't seem to control myself with it so it must be banished. I had a great day as far as staying on track goes. Then, in the middle of the night I heard it whispering its sweet lies from the pantry, "you can have a little bit... you did so well to day.... just have a handful of my yummy goodness..." So what did I do? I ate the WHOLE BAG! *Sigh* I wanted to wake up in the morning and pretend it never happ... Fri, 9 Jul 2010 17:53:58 EST Good friends and their not-so-good for you food! Well, it is less than a month until the big move. As a result everyone who I love dearly wants to see me, and this inevitably leads to eating out-- a lot!! I love seeing my friends, I also love eating the food! But I don't at the same time because it is hard to keep your calories in check while eating out. I do try my best to eat healthy when I'm out, but it is never as good as making your own food at home. Plus it costs and I just spent tons of money on yummy fresh veggies. I sound really un... Thu, 8 Jul 2010 02:25:25 EST Way too much stuff! I move to SD in less than a month and so I'm having a yard sale on Saturday. My mom and I are going through all our stuff to try and get rid of some things. For her, to de-clutter, for me so I don't have as much to move! I did some calculations and money is going to be super tight... like, super extra tight. So I'm starting to stress over finding a cheap place to live. Hopefully I'll make some money from the sale!

Getting rid of extra stuff is really good to do, even though it suc... Wed, 7 Jul 2010 17:00:41 EST How sweet it is to run! Yesterday I got my first long run in for several weeks. MAN did it feel GREAT!! My boyfriend suggested that it is better cardio training to do longer intervals so I downloaded the motion trax podcast with 1 min walk/run intervals and I really loved it!! I am getting better at pacing my runs. I used to sprint so I tend to take off like a shot, but that doesn't work well for the longer durations. If you run with an i-pod I suggest the motion trax podcast, I love it. I also found out my knee pa... Tue, 6 Jul 2010 18:16:16 EST Body fat % and Vegas= Fatted How to calculate Lean Body Mass:
I just got back from my 2 year anniversary trip to Vegas. The good news: Ali and I are doing much better. The bad news: I gained 5 pounds on the trip! Also my stress level is on the rise because I move in less than a month, yikes! I got my body fat % meter (the same kind they use at curves, it was around 25$ online). I took the measurement and it was 34.1% and my weight puts me in the officially over weight BMI. I updated my goals based on the calculatio... Mon, 5 Jul 2010 16:42:24 EST Slow and steady wins the race.... So I've been working really hard lately on Spark. I know I did not meet my caloric burn every week so I do know why my weight loss is really slow. But I was just playing the spark trivia game and the question was something about "is slow weight loss good or bad" and the explanation was:

"The SparkPeople program is set up to help you safely lose between half a pound and two pounds per week. Studies show that individuals who rapidly lose weight are more likely to gain it back, while ... Mon, 14 Jun 2010 16:38:54 EST This weeks Goals& How my body is trying to trick me... So it is Sunday and the day that I review my goals and set some new ones for the next week. I had some success finally and the numbers on the scale started going down at last. So what I did worked.

I found out that the first several weeks that you reduce your caloric intake and up your burn your body revolts and makes you feel more hungry than you really are. No wonder the whole diet thing is so hard for the first few weeks. The good news is that if you stay consistent your body b... Sun, 13 Jun 2010 15:54:19 EST Books and Jogging Yay! Law school prep books finally came. Hopefully this will calm my panic and stop the dream where I show up to my first day and it is that scene from Legally Blonde:

2s&feature=related

But in health related news I'm up to three jogs already. I've done the interval training and so far I love it! It really kicks my butt! Wed, 9 Jun 2010 23:54:00 EST This weeks goals and a review of last week. Well, this week I lost 0 pounds but I did not reach my caloric burn that I was supposed to. So, here is a review of what I wanted to do this last week:

1. I WILL do yoga at least once a day. (well... 4/7 days)

2. I WILL meditate and journal at least once a day. (5/7 days)

3. I WILL journal all my food and stay in my goals on nutrition. DONE! 248

4. I WILL do Palates at least twice this week. ...nope.

5. I WILL jog at leas... Sun, 6 Jun 2010 18:48:43 EST A lot on my plate... figuratively. So... I'm helping my Dad and my Boyfriend look for work plus getting my life all in order. This was supposed to be some time off but I've realized I basically don't have any because of how much needs to get done in the next two short months. Time plays tricks on you that way. So today I'm helping Dad then off to Sacramento for the rest of the day.

I have ordered some books about how to prepare for law school so that should make me feel better. I have no idea what to expect. When I ... Fri, 4 Jun 2010 14:01:32 EST Cloudy day full of math. Today I am heading to the math lab. I have one summer class left to finish my degree. It is not that big a deal, just a few more weeks and then I'm really done. I have been putting a lot of homework off so today I'm off to the school to get it all done before class tonight. It is cloudy, cold, and trying to snow today. Yeah, freakin snow. Anyway... so I am going to eat well and maybe fit in some palates tonight if I'm not too exhausted. Tue, 1 Jun 2010 16:03:44 EST One day at a time... I think I get easily defeated if I mess up one day or get off track. I need to remember that it is one day at a time. Forgive myself for my mistakes and move on. Focus on today, not yesterday or tomorrow. This is not only good advice for my weight loss plan, but just plain good advice for life. I'm going to a party tonight with my Dad and Debbie. The hostess always cooks really great foods, and great beats! I'm glad that we are planing to eat healthy. My Dad is also trying to cut down on unhe... Mon, 31 May 2010 17:17:38 EST Next weeks goals & Motion Trax podcast So... I've managed to get off my A** and jog/power walk two days in a row. It is a start. I also have been increasing my distance. I am using the podcast motion trax. This week I did the 140-150 bpm up shift global beats. Well, yeah, so I'm not quite up to the bpm but I really love the mix. I want to work up to the point where I can stay on beat with the podcast. There are slower ones too. Next week I might try the run/walk combo to try and get myself more used to running. We all have to star... Sat, 29 May 2010 20:51:34 EST fighting depression and trying to do well So I'm in my dark and twisty place because of some issues in life. This is when I want to stay in bed all day and eat junk. I'm trying not to do this... it is a challenge just to be up. I hate that I feel this way. I'm going to try and jog today if I can get myself motivated. The weather is really cold and dreary making it SO much less appealing to go out and jog. But I'm going to try and do it because I know it will probably make me feel at least a little better. Fri, 28 May 2010 19:04:09 EST Day 10 I got my final grades in and the results are great. I got five A's and one B. This brings my final graduating GPA to 3.67. YIPEE! I still have a stats class at a community college to finish up before I'm totally done. I spent the last several days catching up on all those things you put off in your life while trying to finish the end of the term. It is good that it is over but it is confusing and scary also. I am working on helping Ali get a job in San Diego so our move will go smoothly.
... Wed, 26 May 2010 17:10:30 EST Day 5: Exams and the Final Stretch I finally finished my essay at 4 am. I feel good about the essay. I only have one more class left to finish at Sac State. My huge comprehensive final is tomorrow morning then the Grad Commencement is on Saturday. It is a sunny and warm day out, a great day to start my slow running (hey, we all gotta start somewhere).

I just got my financial aide letter for law school and I am quite a bit short. This means I have to get a loan and that means I have to get a cosigner. I have worked ... Thu, 20 May 2010 18:04:54 EST Day 4: Reading All Day Today I have to read all day. I need to read a book and write an essay on it by 10am tomorrow. I don't know if I'll be able to fit in some cardio. It would probably be good to get a break from reading. This is one of my fears: that I'll end up sitting on my butt reading or studying during law school and gain weight. I really need to learn to make fitness a priority up there with my homework. Not easy because I get really worried about finishing my school work. I hope that I can get it done an... Wed, 19 May 2010 16:23:20 EST Is Spin for me? Day 3 Today I have to read a ton. I should be stressed about school, but I'm not. I can't decide if that is good or bad? I just need to motivate myself. My mom is starting her diet today. She is getting back on spark too. Although, when I say "diet" I should say "lifestyle change." That is truly the goal. I have been trying to use the pre-planed meals but I find I have to change them some. I guess I am a picky eater. Anyone else use the pre-done meals?

I have decided to join the clas... Tue, 18 May 2010 16:01:43 EST Day 2 Day 2 and doing well. I had my first final this week in the afternoon. It went well. I have been feeling great because I've been eating fresh and healthy foods. I've been on spark a while now, but this week I'm trying their meal plans for the first time. So far I like it. I have made substitutions to some of the meals, but all in all I'm sticking to it. One more week of school and then I'm done for the semester! YES! Mon, 17 May 2010 19:42:22 EST Starting Over OK, so I have one last week of my final semester as an undergrad! Woo hoo! It has been really hard (17 units) and in the business I have totally neglected my health. Well, that stops today. I am starting again today with a goal of reaching 120 by mid August when I start Law School at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in the fall. I'll be moving to sunny San Diego and moving in with my boyfriend. I want to be healthy, fit, and look great in a swim suit! That is step one of my goal, step two is to... Sun, 16 May 2010 16:23:02 EST Lovely day for a hike! I had such a great hike today by the river, the snow in Tahoe, where I'm visiting my mom, is finally melted. I went out with my mom, and it was so nice! What a way to get cardio in. I think I'm getting back into a good fitness routine after a few months of saying in after loosing my job. Things are getting better I think, getting out there makes you feel so much better. :) Sun, 26 Apr 2009 23:20:27 EST I guess I have to get a new exersize ball While doing my 15 min abs on the ball my kitty was so cute playing with my shoe laces, but he missed and poked the ball. Suddenly I heard the ball hissing as air leaked out and I began to sink. By the end of the work out the ball was basically flat. I tried every way you could think of to patch the thing up, but no luck! Oh well... I guess I'll get a new one! Sat, 25 Apr 2009 02:46:47 EST doing everything right and still the same weight! I'm beginning to feel the frustration of those on biggest looser who work their butts off and loose no weight or even gain a few pounds. It is really annoying. I'm going to try to boost my cardio up and increase my calories and proteins a little. We'll see, please let me drop even a half a pound!! Fri, 24 Apr 2009 01:49:17 EST
