This is a very interesting PBS video about High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), the science behind it, and the physiological results that arise from just a few very short sessions a week:

(but if interested in viewing do hurry the free viewing period expires soon) Tue, 7 May 2013 13:13:28 EST Interesting Go-or-Pay-up Bootcamp Strategy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5228918 I'm going to my first Bootcamp tonight, of five.

Here's what I find interesting about it: it's free.

BUT, if you miss a class, you pay $20. Genius. It's at my gym, they have my credit card number, and I signed a contract.

So if I haven't *firmed up* after five sessions, I'll be poorer in terms of cash flow and health!

211 Tue, 29 Jan 2013 14:36:26 EST Fit into my first goal dress! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5166240

Tried on my goal dress yesterday, which I bought on a trip last year to the "happiest town in the U.S.," San Luis Obispo in Central-Southern California along the coast, nestled between the ocean and a gem of a wine country. The dress is by Shelli Segal and normally I wouldn't shell out the dollars Shelli asks for, but I found it on super sale at a cute little French boutique (Anthropologie-esque). So it was my sou... I'm sore, but still functioning. I FULLY exhausted myself with an hour of lifting and bodyweight and core exercises... then I ran a 5K. I have no idea how I did it but I'm just glad I put myself into a zone and JUST DID. Utilized some momentum. It was only guys at the gym in the weights room and they were thumbs... Wed, 20 Jun 2012 11:40:32 EST Italy and Updates (pics)! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4913922 Hey friends! BACK FROM ITALY and had a great trip! Hiked with hubby EVERYWHERE, walked dozens of miles over the course of the trip, and climbed countless staircases, including the Spanish Steps in rome (multiple times over ;) All of the activity balanced out some mighty fine eats! I needed that two week mental break from tracking - but I am SO happy to be back here on spark people and back to tracking, beginning TODAY!

Here are some pics from my little getaway (there are more in my... Why, Washington DC, for a view of the Cherry Blossoms and a much-needed respite from busy lives. After a month full of health achievements (like dropping 5% of my overall body weight in a MONTH), hubby wanted to treat me with a fun, active, and relaxing getaway. To a five-star luxury hotel, lucky me!

26

Here's where we stayed. We got mega-upgraded to the upper floor corner suite. We have no idea how!
<B... Sun, 1 Apr 2012 20:28:10 EST "Lightening" Up before Bed http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4784825 Ugh, "deprivation" feels awful. I'm being a little dramatic here. I just never deny myself what I crave. And that's not the best strategy to see real results. So I've changed up my pattern.

In the past, my biggest weight loss occurred when I ate 7am to 6pm and avoided late-night eating other than one apple and herbal tea. It really does lessen my caloric intake for the day. These days, I eat an extra 200-400 calories at night for a snack that looks more like a meal. I've decided to... Whew, that is a seriously great workout, about 20 minutes of high intensity with a 5 minute warm-up and 5 minute cooldown. I started at Level One and will work my way to two and three over the next month. I felt like I had a little left in me afterward so I did the full-bod... Tue, 21 Feb 2012 13:05:44 EST
