Well, hard to believe 6 weeks has come and gone, but alas, time stops for no man(or woman).

Six weeks ago I set some goals to help me get back on track and focus on what I wanted to accomplish. I lost 6 pounds, which was below my goal of 10, but is a step in the right direction. I did strength training with my hubby on our bowflex 3x per week for 4 of the 6 weeks, so that's a win. We had a wonderful 11 days of vacation during those 6 weeks, which was a great time to refresh and enj... Sat, 25 Jul 2015 21:52:56 EST "The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure." Sven Goran Eriksson Lately I've been struggling with fear. It's a monster that we all face. It rears its ugly head in different ways for each person.

There are lots of quotes about fear, but one that spoke to me is: "Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important." Ambrose Redmoon

I was fearless when I got married at 20. Fearless when I became a mom at 24 and again at 26. I faced natural, unmedicated childbirth with no fear. Packing everyt... Thu, 24 Oct 2013 20:31:46 EST Things I need to figure out, but haven't I almost said can't. As in can't figure out. Yes, there are things I need to figure out, want to figure out, but haven't been able to or haven't tried hard enough.

Things like: Why do I avoid running? I love running and thinking about not running makes me sad and want to cry, yet I haven't been able to figure out how to fix my drive. It's gone. I used to thrive on my runs! Run day was the best. Then during a particularly stressful patch in my life, I was stopped from running when ... Thu, 3 Oct 2013 02:53:32 EST Life People have the right to believe what they choose: free will.

I have no other choice but to say God has His hand on my life!

We got up one morning about 6 months ago and said, "we should move south!" Ha!! Funny thought! Somehow, I now sit in an apartment 1300 miles away! Monday I start a job (one of literally 100s I applied for) that was the only interview I had, and I was hired on the spot. Wait, what??

Yes, we put our house up for sale March 1, accepted an ... Thu, 8 Aug 2013 22:34:32 EST CNA: to be or not to be, that is the question. I'm still waiting for an answer. Bummer!! The director of the program is at a conference until Tuesday, then she has more interviews on Wednesday, then she should make decisions on Thursday, and finally call everyone on Friday.

I went to "orientation" on Wednesday, April 4. The class is scheduled to start on Monday, the 30th. The CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Survey) test went well. Crazy, but true!

Life is so incredibly strange these days. I'm STILL adjusting to working full time and struggling with finding balance.

I've gained some weight, which I'm not happy about. I know some of it is legit, in the way of muscle. Seriously, my arms are jacked!! The part that makes me mad is the part I know I've allowed. I've allowed myself to eat too much at night. A snack monster lurks in my house and rears its ugly head in the evening... Fri, 16 Mar 2012 21:48:24 EST January 2012, I'm still here :) Whoa, this month has been insane!! I started my new job with two days of orientation on January 3rd.

I was not in a great place a few months ago when I thought about having to work full time outside the home. After being a SAHM for almost 6 years the idea scared me to death!! I prayed and my attitude changed. God opened the door and now I love my job. I'm not making that much, but I'm working hard and it's getting noticed. People from other departments see me working and comment to... Sun, 29 Jan 2012 15:03:25 EST End of year goals: Final Check in Wow, seriously? January 1, 2012??

This is going to be a great year! I start a new job, DH becomes a stay at home dad, DH and I turn 30, we celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, our daughter turns 6, our son turns 4, we pay off our one car loan, and those are only the things I know of today!!

I have to say that I had some pretty lofty goals for the last 52 days of the year.

Lose 12.8 lbs to be 140 on 1-1-12. Well, that didn't happen, but I did make it to 145... Sun, 1 Jan 2012 21:48:44 EST Goal weight? A few questions!! Hello Spark friends and fellow sparkers,

I know "goal weight" is a very personal thing. Two people of the same gender and height can have two very different goals.

When I started sparking I thought 150 was a great goal weight. I'd not been that weight in years and was fairly sure I could never get back there again. Surprise! I made that goal and then some. Along the way I've been researching and trying to find my "ideal goal weight." I had picked 135, as that would put m... Mon, 26 Dec 2011 09:24:00 EST End of Year Goals: 7th check in Sunday (actually Monday) 6 days till the end of the year. What a year it's been. Lots of change and still more to come. Much improved body, healthy weight, muscle!!, smaller size clothes, new job, new dog, and more, all while sparking.

Weigh in: On Sunday, I was 145.4, yep a small gain. I didn't track at all on Thursday until the end of the day, then not much (if at all) since. Family gatherings, kids, hubby, and dogs have come first. Not that I haven't been paying attention to wha... Mon, 26 Dec 2011 09:10:43 EST Rogue!!! Well, we finally have her!! We drove 4 1/2 hours one way to get her, but she's ours!! Fri, 23 Dec 2011 23:20:06 EST End of Year Goals: 6th check in Sunday, 13 days till the end of the year. That is totally insane to me! Where did the year go? I'm approaching that amazing 1 year sparking milestone and can't wait!!

Weigh in: 145, oh yeah!! Remaining weigh ins are the 25th and then January 1st. I might just make my goal of 140 by 1-1-12. Who woudda thunk it?? Certainly not me, but it's better to set a goal and try to reach it than stay on the couch and wonder!!!

Fitness minutes: 355 plus strength training, so not too b... Sun, 18 Dec 2011 21:04:51 EST Frustrating updates: Rogue and Job So, we found out that Rogue's transport for the 18th fell through. Still waiting to figure out if any other transport will work or if we'll have to wait until January. Still exciting, but frustrating also.

Job interview went well. Pay is decent, but not enough to cover hubby's full time wage, plus my weekly cleaning income. So, now the dilemma: take a job that means we have to cut $500/month from our expenses OR refuse the job (IF OFFERED) and have no job.

Cutting $500/m... Wed, 14 Dec 2011 17:54:23 EST Quick update on ROGUE!!!! Plus a new pic :) So we just found out that she'll be here with us on the 18th or 19th!! We are so stinkin excited. We also found out she had no name at the shelter, she was just a number :( SO we promptly agreed on Rogue and passed it along to her "foster" mom. Still waiting for final details, but right now the plan is for her to leave South Carolina on the 18th!

I loved Rayne, but since that is commonly used in conversation we... Tue, 13 Dec 2011 19:29:14 EST Maybe a bulldog? Gotta see her pic!!!!! Wow, today has been crazy!!

Here's the scoop. SIL has a friend who owns a dog rescue. SIL got a dog from her about 6 months ago. We were talking about dogs and DH said he would love to have a bulldog some day, but with a $1500 price tag, it probably wouldn't happen. The dog rescue owner said she would keep her eyes out and let us know if she found one.

The rescue owner got word today of a 1 year old, female, American Bulldog who was going to be put down today. She immedi... Mon, 12 Dec 2011 20:44:48 EST End of Year Goals: 5th check in/DS Birthday pics :) Sunday, 20 days till the end of the year!!

Weigh in: 147.0!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wahoo!! -3.2 Can't remember the last time I was 147 lbs!! Amazing! I think most of it is due to not allowing myself to eat after dinner. My system works best when I use my calories during the day and not at night. It's not always easy and sometimes I do eat at night, but for the most part it works.

Fitness minutes: 375, plus strength training. Phew!

Tracking food: Every day, except today. ... Sun, 11 Dec 2011 18:22:54 EST End of Year Goals: 4th check in/Cake Pics :) Sunday, 27 days till the end of the year.

Weigh in: 150.2, yep had a bad week and gained 1.4. BOO!! I could be all glum and sad, but I know what I need to do and having a goal is motivating. So, 10.2 lbs to goal with 4 weigh ins to go. Yeah, probably not going to happen, but I'm still fighting.

Fitness minutes: 395, plus strength training. Oh yeah, baby!!

Tracking food: Yep, though I can't say it was pretty. Monday over, Tuesday over, Friday over, and Saturd... Sun, 4 Dec 2011 20:42:14 EST End of Year Goals: 3rd check in Sunday, 34 days till end of the year. Whoa? Oh yeah I DID!! 8.8 lbs to go.

Fitness minutes: 325, not too bad considering it was Thanksgiving.

Tracking food: Even on Thanksgiving!!! Went over a bit, but enjoyed the day with family and a 2 mile walk :)

Healthy dessert option: Made two crustless pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving. YUM! My dad was the only one to co... Definately can reach my 1200 per month goal!!

Tracking food: This has been super helpful! I've been tracking all along, but not everything. I'd track so it all looked pretty, but then I'd eat something and not want to mess up my totals... Sun, 20 Nov 2011 15:04:28 EST My SWEATER!!! Picto-blog! Last year I wanted a zip up sweatshirt, with a hood, and thumb holes. Of course I couldn't find one, so I decided to use my Christmas gift card to make one, so I bought yarn and appropriate sized DPNs (double pointed needles.)
Tried to find a pattern, but could only find one in 12-24 month size. Thus began the journey to the perfect sweater.

toddler-raglan-hoodie-6.php </li... Thu, 17 Nov 2011 13:58:37 EST End of Year Goals: 1st check in Ok, so Sunday. Only 48 days till the end of the year.

Weigh in day: 151.4. Down 1.4 and on my way to my 140 goal!! 11.4 lbs to go.

Fitness minutes: Last week I racked up 331 cardio minutes, plus strength training. Off to a good start.

Tracking food: Been tracking everything. Not super happy with some of the numbers, but it's catalyst for change. One day was over due to stupid Papa John's Cinnapie. Did you know it has 560 calories in 4 little pieces??? AND 90 G... Sun, 13 Nov 2011 20:24:58 EST 52 days till the end of the year: GOALS!! While reading some motivational articles today (see links below), I decided that I needed to give myself some goals for the last 7 weeks of 2011. I've come a long way since I started Sparking on 1-17-11, but I still have a ways to go. I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong. While I haven't always enjoyed the journey, I have learned about myself, done new things, fallen down ten times, and gotten up eleven.

12 I counted, starting tomorrow (11-10) and there are only 52 da... Wed, 9 Nov 2011 19:04:50 EST Job update :) Well, nothing is for sure, but we have a lead on a job for hubby. It would be at a local hospital and would be working with math/numbers, which he loves. We think the job would be almost enough to cover all of our lost income. We are waiting for the official job posting and then he will apply. We have connections in the HR department, which we hope will help!

A huge weight has been taken from hubby. He isn't as worried about paying the mortgage and feeding his family. This isn't t... Tue, 8 Nov 2011 12:39:01 EST When it rains, it pours!! It's trueI Better get out my umbrella, cause, baby, it's pouring!!

Wednesday night I broke a molar. I was able to get a temporary filling, but have to wait till the 30th to get a real filling.

We found out Friday that my husband's company is changing hands. We don't know when or the specific details, but we do know we will both lose our jobs. (I clean the office on the weekend. Not much, but it helps!!) It could be next week or it could be at the end of the year. We don'... Sun, 6 Nov 2011 14:44:26 EST My First 5K race: A Picto-blog :) So, I signed up for this Trick or Treat 5K trail run a few months ago. Sun, 30 Oct 2011 20:16:07 EST It's ME, then food. I woke up and stepped on the scale. 151.4!! Woo Hoo!! This week I chose ME over food.

Two weeks ago I was 151.6. Last week I was not happy with the number I saw, 154.2. I had a bad week and let myself eat what I felt like eating. I let food have control in my life. I chose food over me. This morning it hit me. I need to choose ME first, then food. I can't keep choosing food and expecting me to keep changing. I need to put myself first and choose ME. Yes, I helped make this challenge, but that doesn't mean I have it all figured out. Just the opposite, this is my biggest struggle.

What did I eat?? I'd really love to tell you about the wonderful orange I ate after my run today. It was juicy, sweet, and a healthy way to recharge after a long run. However, I think it will be more beneficial for me to tell you about the... Sun, 23 Oct 2011 16:07:39 EST Guess what?? A pic is worth a thousand words.
Today I ran 4, yes FOUR miles. First time ever and in 42 min 47 seconds. I was aiming for 40 minutes, but I'll take my time and smile :) Just me and the road. Well, me, my cell phone, my pepper spray, and the road.

FYI It is actually HARDER to breathe when the wind is forcing air into your lungs!! Oh, and the wind hates me. Blew in my face the whole run!! Sun, 16 Oct 2011 18:51:17 EST Then and now, how things change. Recently I was cleaning the cupboard under the bathroom sink. Eww, the worst job ever, well, maybe toilets are worse, but still. To the point. I found a note, from a previous failed weight loss attempt, with measurements!

I didn't start taking measurements with SP right away, so my starting figures have been unknowns for me. The note is dated 3/30, but no year. I'm guessing it was 2009, since my DS was born in 2008. Anyway, when I took measurements today I took out the old note to ... Fri, 30 Sep 2011 12:37:25 EST ALICE blog for Team Bella Ok, a blog about a non-scale accomplishment. This should be interesting. . .

Dinner the other night. I made a family fave and could have had a full serving and been within my calorie range, but I would have been lacking in protein and carbs. I decided earlier in the day to have half a serving, fresh tomatos, and green beans for dinner. Making that choice left me enough calories to have cheese and blueberries for an afternoon snack, plus it made all my ranges happy!!

Plus... Thu, 29 Sep 2011 11:33:40 EST Morning run cut short. . . by some creep-tacular guy in a four door blue car. He drove by me, no biggie, cars go by all the time. The creepy part was that he stopped farther down the road. When I saw him, he was leaning against the front quarter panel of his car, smoking, with his the door open, and the car running. My intuition flickered and my mind started thinking about self-defense. I've run this road twice a week since the end of March. My family and I walk this road 3-5 times per week. This is a "safe" road. Norm... My fasting blood glucose levels were a bit elevated, just like last time, but that they came down after I ate. She said that was good. She said the other provider recommended that I keep walking, watch my diet, and lose weight.

Ok, apparently the other provider failed to notice my 21 lb weight loss, as noted in my chart. My brother gave me a gift certificate to Maine Running Company as a birthday gift, after I told him about a pain I'd been having in the back of my ankle. He asked what kind of running shoes I had and if they offered enough support and cushioning. Well, I started running in my Vibram Five Fingers and it worked out well, so I kept it up. Plus, I've never been much of a sneaker person. However, taking his "seasoned runner" advice I was excited to get professionally fit for running shoes.
<... Sun, 15 May 2011 10:12:56 EST 19:49 FASTEST 2 MILES YET!!!!! Yep, I ran my fastest 2 miles yet tonight. 19:49!!!! The first mile was 9:55, the second mile 9:54. I've been averaging about 20:30 lately.

I decided to try something new tonight and instead of strapping on my Vibram's, I laced up my fairly old Adidas sneakers. Whether the shoes, the pouring rain, the change in music, or just me pushing myself were the reason, I don't care. I rocked it out!!
