All that I did the entire day was watch television and make a quick run to my parents' house to water their plants and check up on things as they are out of town.

When I get like this, I am in no mood to be around people because it takes too much effort to be around them. I hope today will be a better one.
Sun, 7 Jul 2013 12:37:26 EST One Year Anniversary http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5408906 Today is my one year anniversary of my Laparascopic Gastric Bypass. I have lost 74 lbs. so far. There have been some bumps along the way; mostly emotional but other than that, it has been a good journey.

I am at work and don't have much time to post anything else, but I thought I just could not let this day pass without noting the significance of it.

Actually, it is 6:30 p.m. It was exactly at this time last year where I was in my hospital room (having just come f... Tue, 2 Jul 2013 19:39:50 EST Week 4, Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5116864 Okay, so I began Week 4 of my training today. Went for a walk where I live. It is very windy out and it is 45 degrees. I believe this wind is part of the Hurricane Sandy effect. But, I was dressed warmly and by the time I got home, I was sweating.

The route I followed was very curvy and was more up and down (not hilly) than walking the track or the streets of Chicago. So, it took a bit more effort. I was quite surprised at how I felt, which was exhilarated and very proud of my... Mon, 29 Oct 2012 14:16:48 EST So happy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5114239 Got my new food scale on Tuesday and I was so happy. I love to weigh all my food and make sure that I stay on track. Only allowed 4 oz. per meal, and need to stay on track with that.

Went for a very brisk 20 minute walk this evening downtown in Chicago. A total of 2.2 miles and it was lovely. A big chilly, but I was walking so fast, that I was actually quite warm. Fri, 26 Oct 2012 23:32:37 EST Back on track with the walking http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5108200 I just came back from a 40 minute walk and it felt great. I worked up a sweat -- my jacket is hanging inside out to dry -- and my hair along my neck is damp. It felt good. I was listening to the Spanish Harlem Orchestra on my IPod and was walking a very brisk pace. I cooled off by dancing first a fast merengue and then a slower one. It was great. This is how every day should begin.

I already feel so very productive this morning. Well, I am off to finish washing clothes. A... Mon, 22 Oct 2012 09:59:32 EST My trusty food scale http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5105403 My trusty food scale, the one I ordered before my surgery so it would be waiting for me when I returned home, has died. Or, more accurately, I unintentionally messed it up. I was portioning out my 4 oz. of soup (as I am only allowed 4 oz. per meal, max of 6 meals per day) and I spilled some of the soup.

Not thinking, I took it to the sink with the intent to wash it off with water and some dish detergent. I have no idea what the hell I was thinking. Now, it is no longer working... Fri, 19 Oct 2012 21:05:27 EST A new furnace and an unexpected skylight -- into my attic! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5098322 Well, I finally have my new furnace installed. Since I bought the house five years ago, I knew that I needed to replace it. It was original to the house, and the house was built in 1953! I kept wishing and praying that it would hold out, while I set aside money for its replacement; and as I did other work around the house.

For the last two years, I had some of that money set aside which was left over from other projects (new siding, new windows and gutters); but I ended up usi... Sun, 14 Oct 2012 07:55:06 EST Sweaty and feeling accomplished http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5092704 Back from my trip. Had breakfast this morning and went for a very brisk 30 minute walk as part of my "Virtual Walk" training. Had to pick back up at week three as I didn't do anything while out of town.

So, right now I am sitting here sweaty with a slightly musky odor (not stinky, thank goodness), the hair at the back of my neck is wet and I am feeling good. Looking forward to some cross training tomorrow.

Now, however, I need to get off of the computer and shower. ... Tue, 9 Oct 2012 13:16:08 EST Out of town http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5089004 Out of town this weekend. Best friend's husband has just retired from the U.S. Navy with 30 years; the last 13 as a Commanding Master Chief. What an amazing ceremony. Slightly formal; and with humor interjected honoring his 30 years in the service and presented with much respect, love and honor by those he worked under and for. So honored to have been a part of this ceremony. And now, they (both him and wife, my best friend) will be moving forward down a new path, with him as a civilian.... Sat, 6 Oct 2012 13:20:02 EST A great walk http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5083699 I am in Week 3 of my training for the 5K Virtual Walk. I just came back from my 30 minute brisk walk and it was great. The temp is perfect, the sun is shining so brightly and Mother Nature is putting her best foot forward with the changing colors of the leaves. I love all of the seasons, but I must admit that Fall is my most favorite.

What a wonderful beginning to the new day. Tue, 2 Oct 2012 11:36:29 EST More active http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5078400 As the weight comes off, I am feeling more energetic and wanting to do more physical activity. I have been enjoying my Aqua Arthritis class, but there is one thing that annoys me. Many of the participants use that time to socialize with one another and unfortunately, as the instructor hasn't said anything to them, they feel free to continue socializing. It makes it hard to hear when she calls out the instructions; especially when they have been so busy chatting it up that they cause the re... Fri, 28 Sep 2012 12:32:52 EST Exercise -- Yay! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5059184 I have been getting so excited about exercising! I know, sounds kind of crazy. For the last five years, as I was feeling depressed and unhappy, the only exercise I got was walking from my bedroom to the couch in the living room, watching 4 or 5 hours worth of TV; only to run around at the last minute to get ready for work (2nd shift). That's it! Nothing more.

However, since I've lost these 40 lbs., I have definitely felt more energetic and have been looking for something to do.... Fri, 14 Sep 2012 13:44:53 EST Don't I deserve to be happy, healthy and strong? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5043576 Last week, a co-worker commented on how I was looking good and that I looked as if I had lost some weight. On a different day, another co-worked commented on how I looked happier. In each case, I would blush, say thank you and try to change the subject. But, deep inside, I felt quite uneasy and I have felt this way since my surgery.

I had been feeling uneasy for some time; actually since the day I found out that I had been approved for the surgery. Mind you, at the exact mome... Tue, 4 Sep 2012 08:24:37 EST Vacation is over http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5011781 Well, I am home. I was in Puerto Rico for one week with my parents, several nephews, a niece and my sister and her husband. It was a good trip, but not without its rocky moments. After all, trips with family can be a bit challenging at times. Overall, I know that those rocky moments will fade and what remains will be the good moments.

The beautiful, lush scenery unlike the flat and boring scenery here in Indiana and Illinois is a site to behold. I could not get enough of it... Sun, 12 Aug 2012 08:33:39 EST Able to cross my legs http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4999130 I was watching a movie, and towards the end I crossed my legs -- actually brought the left leg over the right knee -- and it stayed. No slipping nor sliding. I believe I sat there for about five minutes in that position, and then it dawned on me that I was crossing my leg. Such a little thing and yet it made me feel so very excited. I have not been able to to do that for more than 8 years!

I am so excited about that. Next thing that I look forward to would be that I may not ne... Fri, 3 Aug 2012 08:02:44 EST My First Appointment - 2 Weeks Post-Op http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4978519 Well, I had my two weeks post op with my surgeon, Dr. Alverdy. It went well. There were several parts to it. The first being meeting with the Psychiatrist. The usual questions were asked which related to how I am feeling, whether I am finding it tough to deal with the food restrictions, have I tried to hurt myself. I though that latter question was a holdover during the initial evaluation when I was undergoing the process to see if I was a good candidate for the procedure.

Then... Thu, 19 Jul 2012 22:50:14 EST Clarification http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4974166 I thought I should clarify something about my post on Sunday, July 15th regarding my first solid protein.

Although I prepared and cooked 6 oz of chicken, I only ate 2 oz of the chicken; which left me two portions for two separate meals. As I've only just undergone the GBS, my meals consist of 2 oz portions, 4 to 5 times a day. Tue, 17 Jul 2012 09:15:45 EST Real protein, not pureed -- Yippie http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4971601 For lunch today, I cooked a 6 oz. boneless, skinless breast of chicken. A little Adobo, in a pan with two sprinkes of light soy sauce, 1/2 cup each of water and apple juice. I cooked it very slowly and it is very tender and juicy.

Tastes delish! I am taking my time to eat it. One thing to remember about GBS, when you start to eat food, they want you to try one food item at a time to see how you tolerate it. If you eat too many different foods and one of them leaves you upset, ... Sun, 15 Jul 2012 17:38:12 EST Two weeks post-op http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4971230 It has been 14 days since I had the Laparascopic RNY. Feeling really great. The gas that was in my belly is completely gone. I have been tolerating my puree's really well. I actually tried a solid food yesterday. I made a simple sandwich (1 slice white bread, crust removed, one quarter tsp. light mayo, 1 slice of American cheese and 1 slice of deli ham). I actually only ate half of this half sandwich. Took tiny bites, chewed slowly and ate it in 5 minute intervals. I haven't received ... Sun, 15 Jul 2012 12:40:37 EST Nearly One Week Post-Op (part 2) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4961708 I was taken to a private room in the Cardiac Unit after recovery. My sister and mom were there until I asked them to get started for home. My mom's feet tend to get very swollen and she has had issues with blood clots and cellulitis. Since 6:45 a.m. that morning, she never had the opportunity to elevate her feet. I was well. The Dr. Alverdy had spoken with them. My gallbladder was good (they would have removed it if they needed) my liver was biopsied because of how it looked. Note to se... Mon, 9 Jul 2012 08:12:39 EST Nearly One Week Post-Op http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4960352 Today is Sunday, July 8th. I can't believe that it has been 7 days since my surgery. First things first, I got on my scale and I weighed in at 304.6 which is a 6.4 lbs. weight loss. Yay!!

After my weigh in on 6/25/2012, I ate some solid meals. Matter of fact, after I left my doctor's office that Monday, I went to a favorite diner and had one pancake, one egg (fried, over easy) and three strips of bacon. That alone was more than 1/3 of my daily allotted 800-1000 calories pre-su... Sun, 8 Jul 2012 10:40:44 EST A Life on Hold http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4960298 Feel as if my life as been on hold for several years. Interestingly enough, this phrase is something I have heard many people who need to lose weight use.

After many ups and downs, I am scheduled for Laproscopic RNY on Monday, July 2, 2012. My beginning weight (hospital scale on 6/11/2012) was 327 and on 6/25/2012 I weighed 316. This was a loss of 11 lbs. However, as I will be relying on my at home scale, my HOME beginning weight was 322. I had my home scale with me on both occa... Sun, 8 Jul 2012 10:01:19 EST
