Then, the cold & wind hit us. I'm lucky if I get 1 mile.....or 2. I bundle up. But, it reeks havoc with my sinuses.....I end up feeling head-achey, like I'm ill....but, I'm not ill. 33

My biggest accomplishment, yesterday, was that we rearranged the furniture in our BR. That turns out to be a good thing, as there are no longer street lights to shine in my face (keeping me awake.)
<... Sat, 1 Nov 2014 08:37:33 EST Ever amazed that you DIDN'T go over in calories?? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5805871 I went over my calories, yesterday. I thought, for sure, that today was going to be a calorie disaster. But, NOPE. I am pleasantly surprised!

Every so often, DD asks to go to the coffee shop, with me. You know the kind. They sell lattes, smoothies, and all sorts of yummy drinks. We had our coupons. I hardly ever go there. Their smallest drink is 16 oz; but, our coupons required that we get the 20 or 24 oz sizes. We went with 20.

Just got done entering my meals... Mon, 27 Oct 2014 18:08:12 EST Restaurants & their calorie pitfalls http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5804139 There's a certain restaurant chain (that shall remain nameless) whose entrees & salads are as much as a days worth of calories. It was one of my favorite restaurants, until I heard that yucky bit of news.

Family celebration brought us right to that nameless place. I searched their menu online & found a steak & sides that was right within calorie limits. It was called Roma Pepper Steak. There were Roma tomatoes, red skin potatoes, portabella mushroom w/ artichoke heart. Not a... Fri, 24 Oct 2014 19:00:09 EST The walks are working http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5800754 It's a great motivator, to have DH taking an active role in all of this. We're going for walks, regularly. 2-5 miles, each day.

Our biggest meal of the day is lunch. Later there is a dinner salad. Those salads really help us to keep within our calorie limits.

Doggy is walking, too. Not sure that she is losing any, but, we see a waistline. That is all I will ask for.

Sun, 19 Oct 2014 08:20:45 EST Even the dog is on a diet http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5798273 Our dog is not overweight, yet. But, she's getting pretty close! A month ago, she weighed in at 69-point-something (the most she has ever weighed.) Vet suggested we up her exercise & decrease the food. I've been meticulously measuring her food. I even switched her to a diff flavor (same brand & quality of food, but diff flavor), the one with the least amt of calories. We've been going for lots of walks. It seems all we ever do is walk.

For ourselves, we're still tracking o... Tue, 14 Oct 2014 19:50:39 EST Extra motivation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5784255 I've been "trying" for 2 yrs to get myself "back on track" with tracking my food. DH decided to start paying attention to portion sizes, healthier food options & has started using SP for tracking. This is just the motivation I needed, I guess...cuz, here I am....tracking my foods. Sun, 21 Sep 2014 19:37:47 EST Walking buddies http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5783102 313 My dog is my walking buddy. She weighed in @ an all time high, this week. I was told to either lower her food intake, or make sure she exercises more. I'm doing a lil of both. She & I both need this! At the end of the day, I will have either walked her 2 and 1/2 miles, or more than 3. Now that it's cooled down a bit, it makes the walks much more pleasant. Fri, 19 Sep 2014 17:26:07 EST Decisions & influences http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5769606 As much as 18 yrs ago, DD used to get sick with breathing issues, landing her in the hospital a couple of times. It always scared us quite a bit, of course. The last time that happened was 18 yrs ago. We hadn't known she was going to have an episode, had taken the family to dinner. During the meal, she'd started coughing, we attributed to it being the thick air from the pizza ovens. It was a small, enclosed place.....no open windows....not the best for a person with breathing problems. ... Fri, 29 Aug 2014 21:49:45 EST No fries, plz http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5766735 We went out to dinner for steak. Well, he had steak. I ordered a turkey & avocado sammich. We rarely eat out, but, were treating ourselves.

I'm usually too quiet to ask what the alternatives are, instead of fries. But, this time I did. Not a fan of applesauce, which seems to be the usual substitute. They mentioned veggies. I went with that. DH did, too, and was hoping he wasn't sorry he didn't go with fries.

We had this vision of being given boring mixed vegg... Mon, 25 Aug 2014 12:54:26 EST Foot Saga http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5760122 Quite a few months ago, I had WALKED a 5K, and gotten sore feet from it. I walk some everyday b/c of the dog. So, it took me completely by surprise that I would end up with sore feet. The balls of my feet felt bruised. It lasted a few weeks, and I was very careful how I walked, after that. In my younger days, if I walked quickly, my feet hit the pavement hard as I went. Maybe that was the prob with the 5K? I'm not sure.

In any case, it scared me. I asked my friends for go... Fri, 15 Aug 2014 08:18:05 EST Nothing New Under the Sun http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5760111 As I've mentioned, we moved. I had to come up with new walking routes. The neighborhood is totally diff than the other. I wasn't sure where to start. Once I tracked the new routes, I realized that the distances of them are almost exactly the same length as my old routes. It's a funny coincidence, if you believe in coincidences. 246

Fri, 15 Aug 2014 07:58:26 EST New routes & new routines http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5748431 We had promised ourselves that we'd do more walking, after the house sold. But, you know how easy it is to make promises & not to actually keep them. I wasn't so sure this would be any different.

Happy to say that DH has gone on some walks with me, and some of them being close to 3 miles! This is something that never used to happen. Getting older hasn't helped. Pain hasn't helped. But, we're trying to keep those promises to ourselves.

I don't want to jinx anyth... Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:17:26 EST Delete http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5742619 How strange to delete all my walking routes, after we've moved. I had the mileages memorized. Now, it's time to make some new routes. 311 Sun, 20 Jul 2014 10:01:02 EST Not being able to do a task? That's stress http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5727377 When we need to do something that we can not do, that gives stress.

We needed our windows re-glazed & painted (on the outside of a 2 story house.) Yikes! We stressed much over it. If we had had the means & ambition to be able to do such a task, we would've already done it. House is for sale & it needed to be done (whether we felt like it, or not.)

Oh, gosh! The stress I have been under! I am usually just fine with doing things, myself. Fri, 27 Jun 2014 21:27:39 EST What works for me & 4 yrs http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5720643 I spent the 1st yr losing the weight I wanted to lose. I tracked my foods religiously, and that worked.

Somewhere along the line, I quit tracking. I figured that I didn't "have to", anymore.

I've spent the last 3 yrs, slowly gaining weight back. It stands to reason that I still need to track my foods. I just seem to need to.

I like to cook. I like to bake. I'm not into depriving myself of certain food groups. I have a sweet tooth. I have to disci... Wed, 18 Jun 2014 12:15:02 EST My LOL moment http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5719890 Have you ever had the SP food tracker ask you if you've entered in all your food for the day (and want your daily feedback report), well BEFORE the end of the day???

I entered in my breakfast & lunch. Then, it asked me if I was ready for my daily feedback!

246 Idk whether I should laugh or cry. This is not the first time it's happened. It just struck me funny.....kind of. No, I haven't gone over in my calories, either.

Tue, 17 Jun 2014 13:27:52 EST A minus (no matter how small) is still a plus http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5718547 Haven't been using the scale much. I'd recorded my gain awhile ago & chided myself at how nothing fits. DRs appt arrived (you know how THEIR scales are especially depressing??) The weigh in wasn't great, but I could tell it was still a bit of a loss. Weighed myself a few days later, at home, and the results were even better. No, I don't put too much emphasis on the scale; but, it is still important. Clothes still aren't fitting that great. But, I think I'm going in the right direction.... Sun, 15 Jun 2014 16:08:03 EST What does warm weather feel like? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5634475 The great meltdown sure isn't happening around here. We are in another winter weather advisory for tonight & all day tomorrow.

Come on spring! We are all rooting for you!

Some days it feels like one must make the effort to shake off the depression that lingers.

I need springs arrival to help cheer me up.

Sorry for the moodiness. I usually don't do that. I am more apt to purchase the prepackaged kind of BBQ beef. It's convenient, or is it? I usually always had to cut up in smaller pieces the big chunks that were in the prepackaged stuff.

Shredded BBQ beef sammiches, was our lunch, today. DH said it tasted MUCH better than the store bought kind. There was quite a lot of it, so I divided it into 3 equal portions. Th... Tue, 25 Feb 2014 15:27:00 EST De-cluttering my life - PIX included http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5614683 Downsizing & decluttering. That's been my motto for the last couple years. I've gotten rid of a LOT. I've not just donated it all to the 2nd hand stores. Altho, that's been where much has gone. We've also had garage sales. Plus, I've found ppl & places to take things to.....when I feel that it is something a particular person could use. This all parallels the weight loss journey. In some ways it feels good & liberating. And, in other ways, it is scary and difficult.

I'm ... Tue, 4 Feb 2014 07:03:08 EST Sewing thru the storm http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5609849 There seems to be no end in sight for our snow & arctic blasts. There is nothing like bundling up in double layers to shovel snow, but still feeling the air cut right through you. I haven't been out in the last couple days, at all, b/c of the negative & single digit temps.

SO, I decided to start a sewing project, instead! I know a few ppl having babies this year; so, I found some cute fabrics to make a baby quilt. Even tho I have purged thru my fabric stash this last year (do... Thu, 30 Jan 2014 05:50:49 EST Adding goals on the new start page... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5546872 By now, I'm sure you've noticed the new SP start page?? I've noticed that the goals we've set are on that page....which is MUCH more convenient than they used to be to track! I reset my short term & long term goals, adding a couple motivational pix. Much to my pleasant surprise, SP makes them into a colorful slide show out of them for you. If you haven't looked that over, yet, I'd say check it out. 248 250 Thu, 21 Nov 2013 11:21:10 EST Lap Quilt Pix http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5523702 These pix were taken when I was basting the layers together. I just finished it all off, yesterday. I do the patchwork by machine, making sure to zig zag all raw edges. We've had bad luck with gifts that did not have raw edges done like that & they started falling apart after the first washing. 39 The edges are sewn up by hand, but I am going to do a decorative chevron stitch along the edge, as well. Other than that, I am all done.

This is a dude friendly quilt... But, the older I get, the more I realize that I need to grab on to the opportunity when it presents itself. B/c you never know when or if you'll get that chance again. On our road trip across the country to see DD, we made lots of stops....lots of sightseeing. Plus, we drove through Iowa. That was where I got the opportunity to meet our "Perimenopause to Menopause; what you should expect" leader, Brandtsgirl! I had part of my family with me, and she had part ... And, while that is a somber reason for the trip, there was enjoyable visiting going on as well. I don’t see my family very often.
