LIZRUNS22's SparkPeople Blog LIZRUNS22's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Amazing what happens when you just do it! On Saturday, I completed a Mini Triathlon. It was a small community event in the order of run (1 mi), bike (3mi), swim (100 yards). I rode my bike there hoping that would be enough to give my legs a warm up. I have trouble running "cold". It was just a mile and it was tough, I lagged behind, but I was able to run it completely, no walking which is big for me.

On the bike I was strong. I made up for my slow run by passing a bunch of people...although this one little girl on a ... Mon, 29 Sep 2014 08:12:09 EST First Ever Triathlon - Bib #365 On 9-13-2014, I completed my first ever Triathlon. The Life’s a Beach Triathlon in Sarasota, FL is a short course: 200 yard swim, 5 mile bike, and 2 mile run. Short, but still challenging.

My lovely partner Ruth and I arrived the afternoon before the event. The Triathlon took place directly besides a wonderful beach resort. Our room looked across he property right into the transition area.

Thanks to the book Triathlon for the Every Woman: You Can Be a Triathlete ... Sun, 14 Sep 2014 22:20:51 EST And so I am back...from outer space "I just logged in and start rambling about doing another race.
I should have really kept in touch, I should been a better friend.
But now that I am here will you cheer me on again?"

For those of you not familiar with Gloria Gaynor and her 1970's super hit "I Will Survive" the lines above probably sound like really bad poetry.

Those of you who got my play on words...well, you probably still think its bad poetry...LOL

My apologies for my long absence. ... Fri, 5 Sep 2014 15:42:02 EST My First 13.1 DONE! :)
It doesn't feel like I completed 13.1 miles yesterday.

Well, according to some body soreness here and there, well yes, it definitely does.

But in my mind I still am grasping it. Did I really complete a Half-Marathon?

The St. Pete Rock n Roll Half Marathon - me? I did that? Really?

Thanks goodness there is a medal, pictures, witnesses because it feels so unreal. I did that?

Part of the amazement is that it didn't feel like one... Mon, 11 Feb 2013 08:32:17 EST Apprehensive About My 1/2 Marathon After months of training and half marathon is this Sunday the 10th.

I am both thrilled and terrified.

My biggest fear..being too slow. There is a 18:19 pace (4 hour limit).

Now, in good form, I am quicker than that, but when I'm tired and dragging, I struggle to even walk that fast.

I think the first 8 miles will be smooth, after that I cross into barely known territory. My longest training distance was 11 miles and I did man... Tue, 5 Feb 2013 11:39:05 EST I want to be faster. Need your input!
I love that I have graduated from 5K events to 10K events.

I love that I have increased the most miles I have traversed from 4 miles to 11 miles.

I love that I am slimming down and getting stronger.

I love that during my last physical, ALL my numbers were good - even my cholesterol.

I love that running is now a constant in my life.

I love the support from friends, family, and even strangers.

Still, I have a burning des... Wed, 23 Jan 2013 11:36:38 EST New 10K PR!
I have to admit it - 10 minutes before race time I was pacing around, on the phone with my girlfriend, asking "Why do I do this? I'm too slow, it's so embarrassing".

She gently reminded me that I love to run and that this is race is about me and for me, not anyone else. I knew she was right, so I calmed down and lined up.

The gun went off and we started. I checked my watch and saw that I was running an 11:45 pace - that's great for a 5K, but much to fast for a 1... Sat, 19 Jan 2013 13:21:32 EST Hot 10 Miler
Yesterday, Wed, Jan 9, 2013 I set out to complete a 14 mile run/walk.

I got started a little late in the morning. My run started at 9:30 am rather than my usual 7:30 am. This was to be a major game changer, because the Grinch may have not stolen Christmas, but I think he did steal Florida's winter.

Typically, we hover around 55 degrees this time of year. Yesterday, it was 80 degrees. It was a beautiful day and I was blessed with intermittent clouds, but by th... Thu, 10 Jan 2013 08:47:02 EST New Record My life has changed so much since I signed up to complete a Half Marathon in Feb 2013.

The training has taken me far beyond my former 3 mile max. As part of my training, I started to run/walking longer distances, with 11 miles being my longest distance so far.

I improved my consecutive running from 3.1 miles to 4 miles. During my last few 4 mile runs, I felt that I could keep running. So I decided to try a longer distance.

On Monday the 31st, I did a 2 mi... Wed, 2 Jan 2013 12:10:04 EST Most miles ever New record today. I did an 11 mile run/walk this morning as part of my Half Marathon training. The most miles I have ever covered at once, so far!

It was so cold and windy! I had planned to do 9 miles, but once I got going, got warmed up, I just kept at it. It was slow going, 16:51 minutes per mile. The wind was intense.

My legs feel a little heavy, but otherwise, I feel okay.

The good news is that I feel really confident about my Half in Feb. I have t... Fri, 21 Dec 2012 16:13:11 EST In PortaPotty When My 10K Started
That is the honest truth.

My first 10K and I miss the

A wrong turn resulted in my arriving to the event with 12 minutes to spare before the race. I grabbed my chip and ran for the Porta line because I needed one more stop before pounding the pavement for 6.2 miles.

I cleverly picked the line with the most men and it went fast...almost fast enough. As I am unlocking the door to exit I hear the air horn. I open the door to find that the 80... Sat, 15 Dec 2012 14:23:26 EST My First 10K Tomorrow Morning After 15 years of 5Ks, I am finally taking the next step. I'm doing a 10K tomorrow and I'm a little nervous.

I know my time is likely to be between 1:30 and 1:40 (hr:min). I checked the stats and last year and the last person finished in 1:41...I know I am going to be in the back of the pack.

On one hand, I'm okay with that. I've been last before and that was one of my best 5K memories ever.

The difference was that the 5K was a part of a 10K, so the even... Fri, 14 Dec 2012 08:43:00 EST Need help from my SP friends and Team Here is my situation. I'm training for a half marathon in Feb. My training was strong from October through early November, but then I got sick and I didn't run for a month. I started again last week.

I have a 10K this weekend, and I wasn't sure if I was going to show up because I haven't been running.

Then yesterday I see how behind I am in my Half Marathon training schedule, and decide to try to do at least 7 miles today, which is a little over half of the 13 miles. I... Wed, 12 Dec 2012 14:42:44 EST Exercising the Mind while the Body recovers Last week I got hit with an upper respiratory infection that is lingering. :(

I haven't been running in the last 7 days, so my Half-Marathon training has been thrown off course a bit.

Yesterday, I finally felt strong enough to exercise and did a moderate hour on the bike trainer. Today, I will get some strength training in. It's been hard not to be able to run, so I found a way to keep myself "in the groove".

I exercised the mind! I read articles on ru... Tue, 13 Nov 2012 09:16:17 EST Oct 28 2012 - Halloween 5K Story :)
Oh goodness that was one scary race - but so much fun!

Mother Nature, in her infinite humor, decided to hand out some curve balls. One was a physical challenge that had to be managed, the other, were 30+mph winds courtesy of Hurricane Sandy.

The race was beautifully organized and started promptly at 7:20AM. (The main event, a Half-Marathon, started at 7:00AM). My friends and lined up in matching Halloween shirts designed by my sweetheart and were immediately se... Mon, 29 Oct 2012 09:31:10 EST The Power of Training In my past 15 years of on and off running, I have signed up for many races. Some I ran, some I missed, some I ran really well.

As much as I love the challenge of a 5K, nothing prepared me for the power of signing up for a Half-Marathon. Having a race on the horizon always focused me more, but never to this level of intensity.

I guess in the back of my mind I always knew I could walk a 5K event if I had to. Or if I pushed myself running, I'd survive even if my trai... Tue, 23 Oct 2012 08:44:35 EST Amazing Running Day! Thursday 10-18-2012 -Lake Run

I was apprehensive about this run because I had such a challenging run on Tuesday. I felt sluggish, slow, and barely finished my planned training.

I determined that I wasn't eating enough and needed a protein boost, so I made some dietary adjustments. I also did a lot of warm stretching on Wednesday.

The results were amazing. I run by a lake with a .4 mile loop. 8 loops = 3.2 miles, just over 5K distance.

My run... Fri, 19 Oct 2012 11:45:16 EST My first 13.1 After 15 years of on-and-off running, and about 15 completed 5K Races, I have finally embraced my love of running (the highs, the lows, and the pain).

Today, I signed up for my first Half-Marathon ever in February 2013.

Whew.

OK, I'm a little terrified :)

Mainly, I am excited. Super excited. I cannot wait to start training for the longer distance. Once I complete my 5K on October 28th, my focus shifts to 13.1 miles.

I can hardly wait.... Mon, 15 Oct 2012 11:02:48 EST The Veteran Beginner I consider myself a beginner when it comes to running. Recently, I realized I have been running for 15 years. Granted, its been sporadic. Some years I do fours 5K events, some years I don't do any.

Still, it was a huge awakening to recently realize that I have been doing something for 15 YEARS and I still feel like a novice. I'm probably one of the most experienced beginners you will ever meet.

I have wanted to run a sub 30 minute 5K for the past 15 years. What I a... Wed, 10 Oct 2012 17:01:43 EST
