LITTLEBJANET's SparkPeople Blog LITTLEBJANET's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Grammy's new little love I have a new granddaughter born yesterday afternoon. She is just a little one, 5 pounds and 1 ounce. She is perfect and so very cute. I looked at her little face yesterday for the first time and now it's permanently pasted in my memory photos. A little tiny nose, a cap of black hair, long little fingers, sweet baby mouth. You always wonder if there's more love for a new baby, but love just grows as we add more to our family. I'm going to be her nanny-grammy as she now makes child #6 in my... Sun, 19 Jan 2014 11:35:15 EST Palm Sunday meditation This morning between a choir special of Hosannas and a worship song entitled We Will Overcome, I had to share a segue to connect them. Reflections of this week are sobering and difficult. I can't imagine His suffering, but I am thankful for Jesus and for His resurrection. Have a blessed holy week and that He loved me that much.
This is what I wrote to use today in worship.

That day in Jerusalem must have been somewhat like a modern day ticker-tape parade. So many people ce... Sun, 24 Mar 2013 19:55:04 EST Still here I had a random thought this morning after I had closed up my SparkPage before work. I have gained a few pounds back which, of course, I had hoped not to do. BUT that has been my pattern all of my adult life. I know why it happens, and I know how to fix it. Every other time it followed reaching my weight goal. I was so ashamed of myself at the time, I wouldn't go back to the weight program I used to turn it back around. I don't feel that shame here. I am glad I am still in the "lost" ca... Mon, 18 Mar 2013 18:03:08 EST Shining even brighter Another BIG WOW! This time I didn't get to Spark until I got home from spending the weekend with my granddaughters. So another surprise to see I was spotlighted on the 5% challenge. Thanks for all of the visits to my page. It's so nice to have so many friends stop by (and I didn't even have to clean the house!) Sun, 17 Mar 2013 21:25:23 EST In the Spotlight Wow What a nice surprise! I was at my granddaughter's birthday swimming party this afternoon and now in the hotel with two sweet GDs having a girls' night. I thought I'd check out the free internet and what did I find? Lots of goodies and comments. Thanks for the day in the light. I feel honored. Go Daisies! We are out of town, and I didn't get a chance to get the the computer. I would like to thank my team and the leaders for being encouraging. I didn't lose this week, but I'll chalk that up to traveling and eating too much. It might take another week when we get back home to get back in the groove. But I will do my best to maintain and not add extra pounds to our Daisy totals.

G... Sat, 20 Oct 2012 11:21:21 EST 5% Challenge--week 1 I did manage to drink most of the water required for this challenge. I am still not getting much exercise into my routine. I guess I really don't like it! Sounds like a little girl who won't eat her peas! (I don't like them either). Anyway, I have been doing better at tracking my nutrition and am happy to report a 1.5 pound loss. Let's go DAISIES! Sat, 13 Oct 2012 12:57:54 EST 'Fessing up is HARD to do. OK, it's been a long time since I've posted. I've been on the site everyday to log in and answer trivia questions, but I've not been tracking, exercising, or posting. What are the results? I'm sure it's no surprise. At first it was gradual and very up-and-down, but now there is no denying it. I need to confess that I have gained weight, and I need to record that on my weight tracker. So here it is: 10 pounds are back. Not the end of the world, but certainly the start of something I do... Thu, 4 Oct 2012 08:15:52 EST littlebjanet The name littlebjanet comes from a purse "business" I had with my daughter. My name "little" and her name Brenda made the business name little b. We started sewing purses about 7 years ago after my son Tim graduated from high school. He said I needed something to fill the void his absence would make! I turned his bedroom into my sewing room.

My daughter and I visited my mother every August, and she would have a project for us. That year Mom shared a tote bag pattern she found. ... Sun, 17 Jun 2012 13:55:48 EST 5% Summer Challenge I am appreciating the reevaluation assignments from the 5% summer challenge. I seem to need the challenge to get moving again. I signed up for the Daisey team but don't know yet what team I'll be on. This is my first team challenge effort, and I'm looking forward to getting started. 5% will mean about 9 pounds to lose by August 18. Sounds daunting based on the last five months lack of progress, but I am satisfied that I have not gained significantly. That is what I want to achieve ultim... Wed, 13 Jun 2012 09:27:02 EST Back on the SPARKWAGON OK so I started tracking again and put in my "new" weight. I'm not feeling too badly about it because I feel I have done some things right. I'm going to work in the yard today. The rain has cooled things off, and my flowers are calling to me, "Plant me." I love how it looks when it's done. Thanks for all of the suggestions and encouragement. WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER. Mon, 21 May 2012 11:56:44 EST Off track with tracking It's been a week since I logged in my meals. I hit a slump and just didn't do it. When I go home, I'm going to see if I've learned any lessons on what to eat and what not to eat. I have more work to do so I definitely need an attitude adjustment. How do you get out of a slump? Fri, 18 May 2012 10:17:52 EST The incredible shrinking woman--and it's not me! I'm glad to see that the Sensa girl has stopped shrinking before my eyes on my start page! I wasn't very happy when she said she was a size 14 and looked huge. I was so GLAD to get back into a 14 and didn't think I looked that "hippy." Then she just kept growing from fat and thin in a matter of seconds. Yeah, right.

Now she's just smiling at me urging me to let her help me be a size 8. I think I'll stick with my Spark plan and friends. We're doing just fine!

Don't g... Thu, 10 May 2012 11:38:24 EST Having a fit about fitting fitness into my unfitful life! I say "I want to." I try to walk around the neighborhood. I go in streaks and really feel good about it. I do the fitness challenges and then what happens?

Nothing, that's what. I finished the Spring Into Shape Bootcamp challenge in the beginning of March. Since then two months of general inactivity have convinced me that exercise is not going easily into my daily routine. Bottom line: I don't like it, and I don't want to do it. I know I need to. I've read about the benefit... Thu, 3 May 2012 11:30:42 EST Mindless eating? or just plain mindless? I did a lot of stuff on SparkPeople yesterday, but when I checked back on yesterday's nutrition tracker, I realized I didn't track any of my food. I had some great Sparking going on during the day. I met Indygirl and Hoosiergirlindy at a Spark meeting held at a local library. They came up to NW Indiana to spark interest in the September rally in Portage. Their stories and weight-loss are inspiring.

Back to my dilemma. I can't remember what I ate for breakfast. I can remembe... Sun, 29 Apr 2012 08:34:37 EST My limerick I was inspired by MOSTMOM1 with her limerick she posted. Since I'm having such a hard time writing a blog, I decided to try a poem instead. My sixth grade students used to have to write them for their Language Arts class. Even though I taught science, I think I can still write a limerick!

I can’t get enough of this Spark thing.
The first thing I do upon waking
Is get in my spin
Before I begin
Whatever the new day is shaking!

Fri, 20 Apr 2012 09:29:31 EST Who's the April Fool? That would be me.

I set my alarm on my cell phone last night because I needed to be at church at 8:30 for practice, but I forgot to select "SAVE." So obviously it didn't wake me up. When I did wake up, I grabbed my phone and saw the time was 8:30. YIKES! I sent off a text to our worship leader that I had a BIG PROBLEM and jumped in the shower. When I got out, I noticed that other clocks in the house said the time was an hour earlier. Then I thought, "how, when, why did I ch... Sun, 1 Apr 2012 14:45:53 EST My latest addiction I'm not very good at this blogging business; I find it hard to write anything I think someone else would care to read. BUT this community team I joined "requires" at least one blog a week. I'm a little late, at that!

I just came in from a walk. It's cooler here today than last week, but 40 and sunny is perfect for me. I did some thinking and talking to myself. I'm wondering if I haven't switched one "addiction" for another. Mon, 26 Mar 2012 13:24:49 EST Why It's So Different This Time Around I have been on SparkPeople now for 7 months and want to reflect on why it is different this time around. I have done different weight loss programs beginning in my 20s. I am now in my 60s and can't say that any of them were successful for the long haul. I am a good loser, or I was when I was younger. But what good is the losing if it comes right back (and it usually didn't take long)?

Here's what I think is making the difference. I feel much more accountable here--to myself ... Sat, 17 Mar 2012 23:03:10 EST Have You Huddled Lately? I try to huddle with my teams each morning. I can see what's going on with teammates who post that they need support. I can cheer for those who have reached a goal. I visit by invitation those who post to check out their SparkPage. I note some repeating "custom" comments that identify people who are on some of the same SparkTeams that I am. I notice if a "regular" is missing and check out their page. I even get SparkPoints for huddling. But yesterday is an example of the main reason I... Thu, 8 Mar 2012 16:03:48 EST "Good Morning" from God My daughter had a difficult day yesterday and spent much time in prayer and reading her Bible. She asked for specific word to give her peace and control over some repeating emotions that were overwhelming her. I gave her a few verses that have helped me, one being this passage from 2 Corinthians 12.

9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power... Fri, 2 Mar 2012 09:52:36 EST I'm doing the best I can My husband and I just returned from a visit with my parents. We were blessed to take our 5-year old granddaughter Lucy with us. It's about an 8-hour drive, and it's an understatement to say that she was an angel the entire trip. She is such a great self-entertainer. She spent her time in the back seat coloring and playing with her petshop critters. She also had her DS and played songs and soundbites she had previously recorded with her friends. I had blocked most of the sounds out but I... Tue, 21 Feb 2012 09:13:26 EST Couldn't do this last year. A couple of weeks ago I attended a scrapbooking, cardmaking weekend with friends in Michigan. We've done this for several years and of course, it's always snowing when we go. My friend has a lake cottage which she opens up to 9 other ladies who join her for the weekend event. We have such a great time, planning what we'll work on, what we'll make for meals, and when we get there, just talking over what's happened since the year before. I arrived on Friday afternoon and took the last space... Sat, 11 Feb 2012 14:15:36 EST Words that stuck! We had a dress fitting this week for my daughter's wedding. She wanted me to find a dress there at the bridal studio. That's not my favorite activity, but they had a really pretty skirt and top that I liked a lot. Good thing I could buy separates. My skirt size is two sizes less than my top size. The lady who measured me for the order told me I didn't have a butt! First I'd heard that. When I was a little girl, my aunt told me I had a big back porch. That didn't make any sense to me b... Sat, 4 Feb 2012 20:33:52 EST Ten Thousand Points Later Tuesday I did 12 push-ups from my toes. Yesterday I did my January Jumpstart Day 3 (4th time) and this time I did ALL of the tricep dips. Last night I started Day 1 of the 28-day Boot Camp Video. This morning I weighed (I still do it every day!) and had lost a pound making a 33-pound total weight loss. Today I crossed 10,000 SparkPoints. Just look what can happen in 10,000 points! That doesn't even come close to all I've gained. I've made new friends; I've quit taking my blood pressure... Thu, 26 Jan 2012 11:11:48 EST A Looooooong month since . . . I only say that because it's been that long since I've been able to post any weight loss. It HAS been a very busy month. I decided NOT to feel discouraged because sometimes you just have to give yourself a break. I enjoyed the holiday with family, friends, special events, eating out, baking etc. and kept the weight gain down, just fluctuating a few pounds. Not a big deal, unless I want to make it one. And I don't want to do that anymore. I continued with the December Merry Fitmas and st... Mon, 16 Jan 2012 11:13:27 EST Another "I Can" Again Friday was a day of reacquainting myself with an activity I enjoyed for many years before bad knees ended the fun. I loved bowling. I wasn't that great, but I enjoyed the fun with friends. When the knees started to clatter and lock in place, I had to stop. Since both knees have been replaced, I didn't feel confident to try bowling. Even Wii bowling made me nervous! I don't want to hurt myself. BUT my daughter and I decided to take the grandkids bowling yesterday on their last week day ... Sun, 8 Jan 2012 00:04:07 EST Too Focused? "It's possible to be a little too focused." This was the opening statement in the reflections this morning, and it was an "ouch, that hurts." My daughters and their husbands referred to me as the "Points Nazi" when I was following Weight Watchers a few years ago. I wouldn't allow myself to eat anything that wasn't measured. If I didn't know the points, I wouldn't eat it. I lost weight but couldn't maintain it when I reached goal. I didn't keep such strict discipline because it wasn't a... Mon, 14 Nov 2011 08:37:21 EST I can "run" again! I have had knee replacements in both of my legs. The right knee was replaced first 3 years ago and then the left knee the following year. I have also been overweight reaching my highest weight of 208 this summer. I thought after knee replacement that I would start walking and get in better shape. WRONG. I had gained 15 pounds since my last knee replacement. I talked to the doctor about why my knee (left one) was hurting so much after the replacement. He said inflammation was the likely... Fri, 21 Oct 2011 08:08:22 EST It wouldn't budge! Today I was so hoping to reach the 20-pounds-lost mark on the scale. I walked three miles on Saturday, watched my calories carefully, thought positively and . . . 19.5 was the verdict. I moved that scale everywhere in the bathroom floor and, with fingers crossed, gently stepped on it. 19.5 each time. After six attempts, I figured it was time to get the message and started laughing at myself. Thankfully there are no hidden cameras, because I know I looked ridiculous!

So I go... Mon, 17 Oct 2011 10:50:12 EST Two Months and Sparking! I started my spark logging on August 15 so today makes two months. What a difference! I'm borrowing from other SparkPeople and taking a picture today. I love looking at those pictures of the dramatic changes people have made. So far I've lost 19 pounds and (drum roll) 12.5 inches. That is amazing to me! Making those healthy food choices and walking (even in the rain) are making the difference.

I started out partnering with my daughter who wanted us to lose weight before our... Fri, 14 Oct 2011 10:03:53 EST Thinking Differently This Time This is not my first time around the block with weight loss. I've always loved to watch the pounds fall off when I determined to lose weight. That determination was always so focused it left little room for what I considered cheating. We even used that word when we talked about adding foods that were not on the program. But is it really cheating when I add foods to my daily intake that make me happy and satisfy a taste I'm craving? Absolutely not with SPARKPEOPLE! I'm thinking different... Mon, 3 Oct 2011 11:49:54 EST Thanks for the motivation, SP! This is to all SPARKPEOPLE out there who are brave enough to share their lives with me. I have found the best inspiration to continue in this weight-loss project from those of you who have been in the same struggles with my friend-enemy "food" and are making SP work for you. The changes from the "before" to the present photos you have posted are awesome to see. Sometimes I feel like I'm "peeping" in on your privacy, but so many of you are people I would like to know. I get disappointed w... Sun, 18 Sep 2011 09:33:19 EST First Time I've never written a blog before and always wondered if I had anything to say that anyone else would care to read. I would like to comment that I am very impressed by SparkPeople. Along with many of my friends, I bounce weight around like a super bounce ball. But unfortunately, the up pounds exceed the down pounds, naturally resulting in more weight gain. In fact, the weight I want to end up at this time is the same weight I started with at Weight Watchers over 30 years ago. Funny how ti... Tue, 6 Sep 2011 11:16:36 EST
