LISA32989's SparkPeople Blog LISA32989's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Another day off Its almost 1:30 and the plows are getting my condo dug out

We'll be back in school tomorrow for sure so now I'm surrounded on my living room floor by the paperwork I've been procrastinating.

At least I'm feeling well enough to tackle it today! Wed, 28 Jan 2009 14:24:31 EST Snow Day redux One of the bonuses of being a teacher!

But that's not what this blog is really about.

I had bronchitis and I've never really quite shaken it (still have a loose cough, without giving TMI) and Sunday nite, my nose started running
198
It seems to be the viruses that are slowing me down from shifting my bootcamp into HIGH GEAR. I was hoping by now I'd be up to at least 45 mins of high-energy exercise 5-6 days/week, if not 60 minutes...but here I am, b... Tue, 27 Jan 2009 11:56:03 EST Bootcamp is fun? It sure is! I found about 26 others to Low Carb bootcamp with me. I'm glad I found so many b/c we're down to like 12 or 13 who have stuck with it. Its not easy but everyone who has hung in there is SO proud of themselves (and rightfully so!) What a great way to start the year! Tue, 13 Jan 2009 22:00:00 EST Just call me Oprah I'm so glad Oprah is talking about her struggle. It SO makes me feel not alone!

And then I read the article about resolving to lose weight. Bad idea.

Good idea to resolve to change lifestyle. Weight loss will follow.
Its all about the lifestyle! Thu, 8 Jan 2009 07:56:35 EST SNOW DAY! Actually its ice & really not very bad. Just bad enough to cause some accidents during St Louis rush hour, which called off school. Bummer

NOT!

So, instead of a video at home this am, I'm gearing up for some spinning bike time at the gym. I have to work back up to being able to keep up with my spinning classes b/c the PT had me off spinning for a while.

But I did 45 mins the other day so I'll go for 50 mins today (including warm up & cool down). I'm add... Tue, 6 Jan 2009 11:37:14 EST 2 Bootcamps I'm in my team's Low Carb Induction Bootcamp and SparkPeople's New You Bootcamp. They really compliment each other, except when coach Nichole issues challenges to eat 3 fruits! LOL ! I don't like tomatoes or I'd eat 3 of those! Instead, I'll just eat 3 veggies, which are better for you anyway than all that sugar causing an insulin surge. Insulin is the hormone that causes fat storage. So, my adaptation is three low carb veggies. Coach will just have to live with that. Sun, 4 Jan 2009 21:50:07 EST 2009 - The year of STOP THE STRUGGLE The Reader's Digest Version:

I lost 100 lbs. I was 30 from goal. I didn't get there. I've gone up, I've gone down. I've not regained it all nor have I gotten back where I was. This has gone on for FIVE LONG YEARS!

So, if you're reading this, and, like me, you've struggled on & off, let's make this the year we string more than a few months together. The other day when I weighed I was 78 from goal. This means I never put it all back on but it means I struggle.
... Thu, 1 Jan 2009 09:28:23 EST Finding the happy medium Back in July I came home from vacation heavier than I'd been in a long time. I had been lazy and eating too much of the wrong thing. So, I once again found the Low Carb Train and got back on track.

I started bootcamps and started steadily losing weight.
I made charts & graphs.
I was doing great.
104
Then I got an exercise-related injury that sidelined me for several weeks before I decided to seek professional help. The subsequent Physical Therapy... Wed, 31 Dec 2008 11:20:27 EST Home from Jamaica Hi all. I'm home from Jamaica (pics soon). It was soooo beautiful altho I've never seen people so poor. Again, made me thankful for what I have.

I'll definitely be saving my pennies to go back sometime soon.

Other than the alcohol consumption, I did pretty good in the low carb dept and most of my drinks were low carb b/c I don't like sweet stuff anymore. Had a few beers (not low carb) and some mimosas (NOT low carb). Drank rum and coconut juice, or rum, club soda and lem... Sat, 27 Dec 2008 12:19:33 EST Do you feel my pain? I bought some mail-order clothes to take to Jamaica. A pair of shorts & a pair of capris barely fit & I gave STRICT orders that they were NOT to go in the dryer. When I went downstairs to get the guessed it...there they were, hanging on the clothes rack nice and DRY! Argh! Now I don't have enough pants/shorts for Jamaica. Its obviously not the season to run to the store to replace them...Sometimes helpfulness just isn't so helpful 24 Sun, 14 Dec 2008 21:46:33 EST Today's activity Today we moved furniture into the house for the needy family.

They got 4 beds, a couch a loveseat and some misc stuff, including bedding for all the beds. They also got a Christmas tree, complete with lights and decorations. Tomorrow they're getting a refrigerator, a stove, a kitchen table and a love seat. When I told the mom I found her a refrigerator and a stove, her face lit up like a Christmas tree! The kids all piled on the couch and we took a great picture.

T... Sat, 13 Dec 2008 20:46:39 EST I feel best helping others I started low carb boot camp for myself but decided to share it with my team. This week the successes reported are phenomenal!!! Its so great that others are finding success with my silly little program (not really mine, just my "take" on it)

Yesterday I found out about an extremely needy family of a child in our program. This family is living in a house with ZERO furniture and no heat (its been well below freezing at night for at least a week in St Louis). Today I monitored t... Sat, 6 Dec 2008 17:42:36 EST PT = Pain and Torture Okay so one of the new "moves" for PT is rolling over a 6" foam tube and it HURTS! I'm not sure if self-imposed pain or pain imposed by the physical therapist is worse but they assure me that eventually this will subside. It can't come soon enough! But I'm dutifully doing these exersises, dreaming of the day when I can go back to my spinning class. I really get a charge from cardio and I MISS IT! Plus my body needs it for weight loss so here I sit in a weight loss holding pattern 24... Sat, 22 Nov 2008 12:41:44 EST Week and a half of PT Things are slowly getting better.
Many of my "exercises" are stretches. Muscles are releasing. Yesterday we added another strengthening exercise. Part of the reason for the pain is that my hamstrings and quads have been doing too much work and glutes not enough. Glutes aren't strong (geez...with all the spinning, squats, lunges!!!). Other muscles have been compensating and throwing everything out of whack which has caused the pain.

Good news is I'll be better. I'm ge... Sat, 15 Nov 2008 11:24:05 EST Tuesday can't come soon enough! I have my Dr appt to start getting some relief for my hip/groin problem that has put my exercise almost completely out of commission 24

And the election will finally be here! We'll wake up Wednesday morning to no more political ads! Since the economy stinks, I wonder if anyone else will be able to afford to advertise?

I ended up voting early (absentee) because I didn't know what was going to happen at the doctor. When I went for my shoulder several years ag... Sat, 1 Nov 2008 10:51:06 EST on the DL again My injury has returned (was it ever gone?)

I had reported a groin pull that was radiating into my hip flexors. This time its radiating into my upper hamstring & up into my lower back.

I've been nursing it all week & this morning its still hurting like crazy.

Time for some professional help.

I'm calling a physiatrist (sports med dr) I used a few years ago for neck/shoulder problems. He fixed that after years of suffering so I'm sure he'll fix this... Thu, 30 Oct 2008 08:10:49 EST Booted out Well, damn, I didn't stick with the bootcamp rules and I'm booted out of my own bootcamp!

We went to a party last night and I let temptation get the best of me with some munchy crunchy foods.

One of my fellow bootcampers fell into the same hole so I contacted her to see if we can bootcamp together for the rest of the week.

I still need accountability
I still need a buddy or buddies to work with
I still need bootcamp!

So, I'll do i... Sun, 26 Oct 2008 13:40:26 EST Political Rallies in a Swing State during Rush Hour? Missouri is a battleground state so the candidates are here a LOT. There was a debate here. Tomorrow is a huge Obama rally on the grounds of the Gateway Arch. On Monday McCain will have a rally in a much smaller venue just west of St Louis in St Charles, where I live. Gates for that one open at 7 am, which is sure to screw with rush hour traffic. Two Fridays ago, the president was in town for a fundraiser at the home of a local rich person. That screwed up Friday evening rush hour traffi... Fri, 17 Oct 2008 18:15:55 EST New Bootcamp starts today New Bootcamp starts today but I'll have to take it easy on the exercise b/c I woke up with a migraine. I'm not suprised b/c I had interrupted sleep on Saturday nite and ate 3 hotel food meals, which probably contained MSG, my main migraine trigger.

But I'll get in a gentle walk and stay within the minimum bootcamp exercie guidelines.

This time at least one person is joining me

And I get to move my ticker a bit :) Sun, 21 Sep 2008 12:59:08 EST Finished one thing :) Our presentation at the state conference went really well! I'm so glad its over!

And I'm glad to be home. I don't know how one of my teammates does in hotels a LOT of the time. I had one nite and I'm exhausted. I don't sleep well when I share a room with a "stranger" (someone I don't typically share a room with) and when I'm without all my nightly routine things.

I DID get in an eliptical workout this morning and I took care of myself by taking some foo... Sat, 20 Sep 2008 21:20:53 EST Thursday Bootcamp Today started with 20 minutes of circit training. I'll have to get 20 more mintues in later... probably a walk.

Breakfast will be my homemade Atkins shake (for anyone interested, that's 2 eggs, 1 T butter, 1 T virgin coconut oil with cinnamon & pumpkin pie spice & 6 oz coffee in blender then ice to desired consistency)

Lunch will be another burger on oopsies with lettuce and wasabi mayo & cucumber salad

Dinner will be leftover spaghetti sauce over spaghetti s... Thu, 18 Sep 2008 07:42:16 EST Wednesday bootcamp Slept thru the alarm again...I set my cell phone to vibrate so the early alarm doesn't wake hubby. It usually wakes me up but I've been unusually tired b/c I'm working on this project for the state conference. finished it today :). Conference is Fri/Sat.

I didn't make it to spinning class but I made it up in time for 45 minutes of step aerobics at home

I'll try to go to spinning (alone) tomorrow morning & do circuit on Friday before I leave for the conference (hour a... Wed, 17 Sep 2008 19:04:38 EST Tuesday 50 minutes Circuit Training

B: Homemade "atkins" shake
L: ground pork & onion sandwich on oopsies with wasabi mayo & lettuce, 1 cup coleslaw (lowcarb, homemade)
D: hardees lowcarb burger
Lotsa water...3 liters
Wed, 17 Sep 2008 18:59:21 EST Bootcamp continues Monday

Exercise = walk (slept thru the 5 am alarm)

Breakfast = Homemade Atkins shake
liter of water throughout the morning
Lunch = Ham sandwich on oopsies with may & lettuce, homemade coleslaw
liter of water throughout the afternoon
Dinner: prime rib, onion & pepper mixture, green beans, selzer water & limes to drink (3 16 oz w/dinner) Tue, 16 Sep 2008 07:54:28 EST December Jamaica body Bootcamp continues I've been running bootcamps on one of my teams since July. I've progressively made them more difficult but still "doable". And I've completed all of them, too!

This time nobody joined so I'm going to continue my bootcamp journey here for the 7 days. I'll open up another bootcamp option for my teammates next week. Perhaps they just need a break.
I don't.
I'm on a roll and I want to keep the momentum going. I have a December Jamaica-body goal!!!!

So yest... Sun, 14 Sep 2008 10:04:53 EST Stopping the Yo-yo. Things I've learned. Tomorrow will mark six weeks since I've gotten back on the horse.

I'm learning a LOT about myself.

I'm learning how important it is to learn to use all stages of Atkins Nutritional Program and not just rely on Induction. I think that's what got me in trouble before. So I'm now on rung 2 of OWL, and altho I can add more cheese, I'll probably be mostly using it as a condiment b/c I know I have portion control issues with it. The same will be true with nuts & seeds. I... Sun, 31 Aug 2008 06:30:06 EST Pep talk to self I'll be weighing in this weekend.

I feel lighter and my clothes are much looser than last time I weighed. I haven't measured. I'm using my clothing as the measure right now.

I'm fitting into clothing I haven't worn since last summer. Some are still too snug but I'm getting there.

I have a goal number in mind but I need to remember that whatever the scale says, I'm making progress and everything is going in the right direction. I haven't been cheating. ... Sat, 30 Aug 2008 07:53:46 EST I finally fixed my ticker Not that I really want it to say what it says 24

But its better than it was 3 weeks ago! 10

I kept trying to fix it but it wouldn't fix. I finally got diligent and "made" it be correct. Mon, 11 Aug 2008 20:45:25 EST Whoosh Ya just never know what to expect when you step on the scale. No matter how good you've been, the scale doesn't always cooperate. I've heard the whoosh fairy can come to visit

188

I weighed on Wednesday

I weighed today

I was hoping for 2lbs

6 COUNT 'em 6 lbs!!!

For a total of 14 in the last 3 weeks.

Low carbin' is the good life 224

I have some "mini goals" set up and I surpassed my m... Sun, 10 Aug 2008 09:38:54 EST Had to get it out At the beginning of the year I was gung-ho to get to goal. Perhaps like I am now but not quite. I wasn't sticking to the plan like GLUE. Right now I'm like GLUE.

Anyway, yesterday I was working on my "work" laptop and I opened the calendar to sync with my desktop.

I had created a calendar to track weight loss goals. At 5 lbs/month I would have been at goal by now had I stuck to the plan then.

24

I know you're all going to tell me... Sun, 3 Aug 2008 07:44:43 EST Day 10 Tons of energy! 244

That's what Atkins does! First few days not-so-much but then after that its an upward spiral. Sometimes it gets so bad it interferes with sleep.

Today is the first day exercise was easy. I finished my circuit training video at home and then I cleaned the house before I showered.

For anyone who doesn't know, this is a return to the good life, not an entry to it. Why did I leave? Health issues put me in a bad spot. But I'm... Wed, 30 Jul 2008 14:37:43 EST The pool beckoned LOL

Didn't clean carpets. The carpets are in my house...not the condo we're selling. Know anyone who wants to buy one?

The pool beckoned and I only have 6 days til I have to go back to school 46 Mon, 28 Jul 2008 22:39:38 EST Day 8 I've logged all my exercise

Been very busy and haven't logged all my food (wish I could find a way to easily log it in my motorola Q) but I HAVE stuck to my food plan LIKE GLUE

Today I'm cleaning carpets on the second floor.

Fun fun (at least it burns calories) Mon, 28 Jul 2008 12:34:02 EST One Day at a Time I find myself having a hard time living in today.

I've restarted my program after spending most of the year gaining 24 weight.

So, what do I want to do? Calculate how soon I can be a weight I find acceptable. This is as crazy as living a lifestyle that has me gaining too much weight!

For today, after weighing in, I spent my 50 minutes on the eliptical (wanted off after 20 but stayed) and I've stayed with my food plan. I have a food plan for the r... Wed, 23 Jul 2008 13:19:27 EST I'm really back Now that I've gotten used to the new meds (Topamax), I'm finally in a mental place where I'm ready to start back on an exercise program. I start today (food plan started yesterday & I meant to start exercising but time got away from me).

The upswing of migraines that I had in the Spring was so sudden and so severe that it was a huge interference in my life. My house is a mess. I work full time and I'm a part time graduate student and a newlywed and it was all I could do to kee... Tue, 22 Jul 2008 12:41:28 EST Home from vacation And there was damage. I'm doing my workout at home but I have errands to run and I'm going to the gym to weigh in. To get honest and to get "back on the horse". I'm already back on the exercise and low carb horse but to truly get back on the horse I need a new starting point. Mon, 21 Jul 2008 11:50:29 EST First Anniversary We went to Mackinac Island for two nights and now we're back at the beach. What a life. I'll get pics posted soon. Wed, 9 Jul 2008 15:47:12 EST Got the call Somebody else was offered the job & accepted

It was nice to hear that they had more experience & that it wasn't b/c I screwed up BIG TIME!

Anyway, I'm done with school now and chillin' on the beach in Michigan.

Gonna go for a bike ride with hubby 104 Thu, 3 Jul 2008 12:56:32 EST update For those of you following the continuing saga of Lisa, my interview was yesterday. The side effects of my new migraine meds really showed their ugly head during the interview as I had terrible word-finding difficulties & confusion. The up-side is I already have a great job!!!

I still did my best and I KNOW I am a qualified candidate.

So now I go about my business of finishing my crazy summer semeseter schedule by next Friday & all the other committments that I've ma... Tue, 17 Jun 2008 08:58:12 EST Preparing for a Job Interview I applied for an Instructional Technology position within my school district & my interview is Monday.!!!!

So, despite already being SWAMPED by accelerated summer courses (I'm doing 2 full-semester courses in 3 weeks...yikes!), this weekend I am preparing a demonstration Professional Development activity for teachers, which is a required part of the interview.

The job would basically be teaching teachers how to incorporate technology into their classrooms. I'm thinking ... Sat, 14 Jun 2008 09:45:43 EST Big Tim Russert Fan The news brought tears to my eyes.

My heart goes out to his family and colleagues. It sounds like he was incredibly well loved. Everyone should be so well loved. Very few covering politics are!

If we all lived our lives to be so well loved, the world would be a much better place. Fri, 13 Jun 2008 17:45:51 EST Better day I'm feeling better today. No migraine. Had a little headache when I woke up but some Aleve alleviated it. Migraines are not just bad headaches. They're whole body events. Headaches I can deal with.

Anyway. I had more energy today and I got some house cleaning done & some cooking AND some relaxing by the pool (socializing). Since I feel better, I see how cluttered my house has gotten while I've felt like H#!!. I can address this stuff slowly. It doesn't have to overwhelm m... Sun, 8 Jun 2008 20:53:14 EST I needed this today Lifting yourself up and continuing forward

Does it ever feel like trouble follows you around and won't cut you any slack? Sometimes it feels like you can't buy a break and everything you try just makes things worse. Who could blame you for feeling sorry for yourself or not forgive a little self-destructive behavior? Bad idea. The new, healthy way to spend down times is to lift yourself up and operate at a higher level. Remember that what happens to you is not who you are. It's hist... Sat, 7 Jun 2008 07:20:21 EST and more! I started my new migraine meds last nite and they're WORSE today!

I know it probably doesn't have anything to do with the meds but I'm still incredibly frustrated!!!

Weather has been changing like crazy around here & barometric pressure has an effect, as does food additives (like MSG). Other migraine triggers are too much alcohol, chocolate & not enough sleep. We've never linked hormones for me.

So, I'm being VERY careful with food & beverages. Not a ... Fri, 6 Jun 2008 16:38:37 EST @#$% migraines I'm in another prolonged migraine event.

I've avoided it long enough and am now willing to try a medication that my doc recommended back in January (it can cause liver problems). This is a daily medication, not one to take just at the onset of symptoms.

I think a recent weight gain and my lack of ability to participate in many recent social events has helped with the decision.

I can't exercise with any frequency or intensity when my head and face are consta... Thu, 5 Jun 2008 19:19:19 EST Meet me in St Louis I got to meet one of my teammates! Tessa was in St Louis for a convention & I picked her and a colleague up at the hotel. After some brief sight-seeing, we went to a steak place.

We had HUGE steaks! I got a 16 oz Filet & brought half home. I think everyone else got a slightly smaller ribeye. The guys got huge baked potatoes & the girls both got veggies (why do they charge $2 more for veggies?) AND we both left the carrots on the plate. Ha!

We found we have other... Wed, 4 Jun 2008 23:40:55 EST suggestions vs complaints. I got a Spark Mail from a disgrunteld team member. She had complaints but offered no suggestions. I think we're a TEAM so that we can all work together! Sun, 1 Jun 2008 20:09:13 EST Busy week End of the school year week is always busy. I have the paperwork done. Now its just about packing and moving things to my new desk. I have a new (lateral move) position starting in the Fall. I'll be 100% travelling.

Yesterday I took 2 oopsies with me in case I didn't make it home for lunch. Worked great with a Sonic burger inside. Thu, 29 May 2008 09:46:49 EST Cookin low carb I've been cooking

First I put the oopsies in the oven
Then I made sugar free ketchup & BBQ sauce (much better and cheaper than buying!)

Later I'm making a ribeye & mashed cauliflower with garlic butter.

Tomorrow I'll have low carb slaw & country ribs with my low carb bbq sauce.

Viva La low carb! Mon, 26 May 2008 17:21:30 EST Memorial Day to Labor Day Challenge I started a challenge on my Low Carb America team.
I'm ready to get back in the weight loss saddle! Sun, 25 May 2008 12:16:09 EST
