LINJENEWME's SparkPeople Blog LINJENEWME's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Next on the list In August my doctor increased my blood pressure medication to include a water pill. She was concerned about the lower number as it was still high. The addition of the water pill brought along weight loss. A co-worker noticed. She said some people would love to lose weight and she wished she could take a water pill. This women is thin and goes to the gym all the time. She would live in one if she could. It ticked me off. Who doesn't like weight loss, but losing it because I need to take a bloo... Fri, 20 Oct 2017 08:07:16 EST Slip sliding I haven't been to the gym in over two weeks. Not because of no motivation. I came down with a bad cold. While I was battling that, my older brother-only 54 years old, suffered a stroke. I wasn't able to see in the hospital for a week. Now that I am able to, that has been where my time has been spent. Instead of going to the gym after work, I go to the hospital to keep his spirits up. He will be there for a few more weeks. I am just so thankful it didn't turn out with a different ending for o... Mon, 27 Mar 2017 12:59:22 EST Time flies when living well! I find it hard to believe that I haven't posted anything since 2014. I have been busy living life. In the summer biking was my weekend passion. With the mild winter up until last Sunday I have also been still getting the odd pedal in. Fantastic. Life is good in the health dept. Just keep on keeping on.... day by day. Wed, 13 Jan 2016 12:51:49 EST Changing seasons I am quite sad summer is over--I love Fall of course. Only this past summer, I bought myself a new bike with a great saddle on it, and was able to ride on the trails frequently. Here's hoping for a few more warmer weather days, or calm no wind dayas. I love biking, but I haven't yet converted to cold weather biking. Tue, 7 Oct 2014 12:49:32 EST What a Health Scare does for You Back in May I started waking very dizzy. It got worse and worse, and I tried to hide it, pretending it would go away, or googling ideas to fix the issue. I drove to work one day, and had to have my dad pick me up. I went to the doctor. My blood pressure was over 160. The doctor immediately put me on blood pressure pills and did further testing. I was in the 3% range for developing other issues withing the next 10years -such as risk for heart attack and diabetes. No thanks. The dizziness didn'... Mon, 6 Oct 2014 15:20:13 EST starting on the right track This morning I started out right...instead of Eggos and sugary syrup, I had special K (also yummy), with almond milk on top. a good start to the day. Tue, 13 May 2014 12:45:46 EST Back into It During summer, with some personal issues, I took a detour off the fitness track. I still did some fitness, but not nearly enough. Well, I am pleased to say, I am getting back into it. That is good, better than good. I may have been side-tracked for a time, but getting back up on the horse is half the battle won. Sat, 9 Nov 2013 15:04:43 EST September 23-Summer's Gone Where did it go to! Not many more outdoor biking the trail moments left. I am hopeful for this weekend. My goal now that summer is over is to move back inside to the gym, and reboot using my home DVD's. I have a new mobile phone and was able to download some cool sounding fitness APPS. Looking forward to testing those out as well. Mon, 23 Sep 2013 12:56:16 EST No Zumba at work for 2 weeks The free 6 week trial at work is over. The instructor will be back and I will pay to go, yet today and next week she isnt available, so it is Zumba withdrawal.
I went to the gym and sweat it out on the elliptical-I love that thing. I came home, washed off my car, because the lovely birds did a job on it. I then completed one of my Biggest Loser power walk sessions. I am just taking a break before getting on my recumbant to pedal and read a book. Tue, 23 Apr 2013 19:42:20 EST NO gym tonight but what a workout I had! am tired out. I didn’t go to the gymafter work-was going to but am glad I didn’t. I still got a workout at home. I came home and saw dad’s wood for next winter (yes already thinking of snow and cold) had been delivered. A dump truck dumped it on the front yard. He was moving it with his pickup. So, I helped him. We did three loads, each time loading the wood onto the pickup, then he backed the pickup thru the garage (because the lawn is soft), and we unloaded the wood. He kept asking how much... Wed, 17 Apr 2013 20:08:07 EST Love the weekends Don't you love the weekend! More time to be active. I babysat my youngest niece and nephew yesterday. We took advantage of the Spring (albeit cool Spring) climate and went for a leisurely stoll along a new portion of the local trails which meet the TransCanada trail. It was nice to see a part of where we live through a different view. Sun, 7 Apr 2013 19:26:54 EST Holy Saturday Tomorrow is Easter Sunday and calling for a rainy day. Today'a weather was beautiful. The sun was shining and even though there was a cool breeze, the snowy winter looks to be in the past. I took advantage of the sun and worked out outside on the patio. I took my portable DVD player outside and completed two of my favourite workouts from the Biggest Loser Powerwalk. It was energizing to complete the workout outside in the sunshine, as opposed to the dreariness of the basement.
In a few... Sat, 30 Mar 2013 20:12:26 EST Family Blessed!!! I truly have been blessed with my family. They spoiled me today. This blog is totally unhealth related. My sister did bring an amazing cake as suspected. I was blessed with gifts. My oldest niece made me a lovely pink friendship bracelet. My two brothers and their families each gave me gift cards to my two favourite stores. My sister, who brought the cake, and brother-in-law really spoiled me as well. They gave me tickets to go see Bruno Mars in concert in Toronto this summer. I had emailed h... Sat, 16 Mar 2013 20:04:51 EST Belated Birthday Yesterday was my birthday - 43 young!
My family are all coming over today at my sister's suggestion. She is bring the cake. I know it will be amazing. I will contain myself and give leftovers to my nieces and nephews to take home with them, as much as I may wish otherwise. I am now at the point where as much as I would love to gorge on the sugary sweets, I know doing so, isn't good-not only for the waistline, but for a person good health. Have a great day all. Sat, 16 Mar 2013 13:02:37 EST Zumba exhiliration carry-over It is a day after the zumba at work and I still feel the mental and health boost from it. A co-worker said to me today, 'don't you wish it was Zumba day?" I agreed with her. It is such a fun workout, and it is a workout. Even though, I have to wait until next Tuesday for Zumba at work, it did give me the energy boost to keep wanting to work out. I could do Zumba at my gym-but I would have to try to get an arm band, before the class begins to see if there is space-such a hassle and crowded. In... Wed, 13 Mar 2013 21:49:22 EST Zumba day Wooooohooo-today is Zumba day at work during lunch. It is part of the companies health and wellness they are promoting. So looking forward to it. Tue, 12 Mar 2013 10:16:07 EST Zumba at work The social committee where I work, has been trying to incorporate wellness activities. They brought in yoga once a week at lunch-pay as you go. Next week they are starting Zumba. I enjoy zumba, and will do it at work, though the time slot is crazy. Zumba is alot of sweating. They are holding it during lunch. Oh well, going to get my zumba groove on. At least there is a shower at work, if everyone isn't fighting for it at once. I am glad the majority of my day is done by time lunch rolls aroun... Wed, 6 Mar 2013 17:28:01 EST Tendonitis and Ellipticals So, I made it into the gym today-the tendonitis was down to the usual dull pain. I was told by my doctor, I would need injection shots to get it to heal. It had healed for about a year, but gradually came back. Not letting that stop me. Just wondering, anyone else who has suffered with foot pain. Is there a level on the elliptical which uses less pressure on the foot. For some reason, I am thinking a higher tilt would be better-using your knees more? Any thoughts? Sun, 17 Feb 2013 18:56:13 EST Working the arms Last night and today my tendonitis in my left foot is in full force. This meant no gym day today, and taking it easy. To not make the day a total waste I was able to work my upper core with weights and crunches. Hopefully, tomorrow, my foot will be bearable to make it in to the gym.The elliptical and treadmill are calling to me. Sat, 16 Feb 2013 19:52:34 EST One of those days Today began as one of those down in the dumps days. You know the ones, where you are putting in the work, and you know you are seeing some results, yet at the same time you aren't seeing the end result. So after the pity party, if you can call it that, I gave myself a mental shake, reminding myself, that in fact, the weight didn't go on overnight, it sure isn't coming off overnight. I put in a workout DVD and kept on trekking along.
Since it is Ash Wednesday I am having fish for dinner. ... Wed, 13 Feb 2013 17:35:31 EST VHS still alive Tonight I put in an old VHS(yes some of us still kept out VCR's) tape. It is full of workout shows recorded off the television called, the Fitness Zone. I completed one of the high intensity cardio episodes and let me tell you, it was tough. Very fast paced-lunges, squats, power squats. I loved it. Tue, 12 Feb 2013 19:43:02 EST Snow Day = No work day = Great workout opportunity I woke to a massive snowfall in Ontario this morning-cleaned about 3/4 foot of snow off my car, but there was no way I was going to make the usual 30 minute commute into work today. I was able to enjoy my workout in the morning instead of evening. I went outside a few hours later, cleaned about the same amount of snow off my car again as well as the sidewalks. Great workout opportunities today. Some may think it crazy to clear away snow when it is still snowing, but in my mind it is accomplis... Fri, 8 Feb 2013 14:10:37 EST My Energy I was telling a friend, about the workout I had done last night. She told me she wished she had my energy to move forward to good health. I told her, it wasn't so much about the energy I had (I was tired after standing on my feet all day moving around already at work), but I knew I had the workout DVD's and have been avoiding the gym currently. I know 43 is just around the corner. I know what I want-to be fit and healthy, and sitting in my comfy chair in front of the tv for the last 20 of tho... Fri, 25 Jan 2013 22:01:41 EST The workout is done Tonight consisted of the Biggest Loser walk 1 and 3. I began walk 1 but kept getting interrupted. I stopped having completed 1/4 of it, and came back to it later in the evening, beginning from the beginning. I was tired by then, but just knew I had to do it, or tomorrow I might not do it. Walk 3 is more of jogging and jumping jacks and sprints in place. I didnt want to make a lot of noise, so I actually completed it with my shoes off. I still worked up a good sweat. I think I will sleep quite... Fri, 25 Jan 2013 21:49:17 EST Feeling proud I am feeling pretty darn good-tired but good. I have been consistent with my workout program for almost two weeks. I would feel myself sinking down on the comfy chair in front of the tv after work, and know I had a short work out waiting for me, got up to get it done. Tonight I did walk #4 of the Biggest Loser power walk Dvd, then I added 10 minutes of high burn cardio from the Biggest loser 2 workout.Short workouts, but the last one had me really sweating. Thanks trainer Kim. I am actually l... Thu, 24 Jan 2013 19:50:28 EST Moving Forward Two days of commitment! I started yesterday. I actually surprised myself (not really) with how out of shape I am. I bought some new fitness DVD's. With the new year, everything to do with fitness can be found on sale in stores. I bought some Biggest Loser DVD's. I would like some of the Sparkpeople items, but I don't believe they ship to Canada, so I am getting back into taking advantage of the website. Time working out wasn't long to start-a 16 minute indoor power walk yesterday, and a 21 mi... Tue, 15 Jan 2013 20:07:42 EST Yesterday is History Yesterday not a good day. I started with my sit-ups in bed before the work day began which was good. It was crazy at work, so I decided to skip the gym. I went home, ate a healthy vegetarian lasagne, then blew it. I ate 3 (Though they were small) but still, 3 peanut butter ice cream sandwhiches(peanut butter ice cream between two peanut butter cookies)-which makes 6 cookies. I will say I did at least ride my recumbant for 20 minutes, but still am unhappy with my work-out and eating day. But n... Wed, 9 May 2012 07:26:11 EST getting it done I didn't go to Zumba last night, but I did ride my recumbant bike at home for 35 minutes. This morning I did over 100 sit-up/crunches before I left my bed. After work it will be gym day. Thu, 3 May 2012 10:15:29 EST Today Not Tomorrow I have that saved on my e-calendar at work. It now pops up at day's end recurring. Yesterday I did get go to the gym. I am pretty happy. Yesterday is over and onto today. Today, I am thinking of actually going to a Zumba class, surrounded by some people with a common goal, fitness and fun. My sister-in-law and her friends will be there, so it won't be strangers. Time to get to work though. Have a good one. Wed, 2 May 2012 07:31:41 EST looking too far ahead My problem is I have been focusing too much on the distant future and getting overwhelmed and worried about the changes to me, that I let it sabotage my beginning. Starting yesterday, I still know where I want to be, but I am focusing on the present day more. I wll reach my goal, one day at a time. So today, I have my plan of attack. Today I am going to go to the gym after work. Yesterday I worked out at home-my own interpretation of ZUMBA-sweat I did. I even set my alarm clock 15 minutes ear... Tue, 1 May 2012 12:46:20 EST Video upset Yesterday in Ontario was family day. My sister-in-law works for Canada Post service which is federal, so she had to work. My brother also had to work, so I was able to spend the day with my two youngest niece and nephew-5 and 2-1/2. I took my camera to take pics and let them play with it. We also did video of us playing 'motor boat, and ring around the rosey, as well as my niece hoola hooping. Anyway, I set the camera down and actually had some video of the three of us playing motor boat. Wel... Tue, 21 Feb 2012 12:44:11 EST My own beat last night I let my anxiety get to me and talked myself out of going to the gym. So i did my workout at home. I rode my recumbant, jogged on the spot, did a couple songs of my own Zumba variation and cooled down to the end of a Yoga class which was on the television. A little bit of everything. I feel good, though my foot which had the tendonitis is a little strained today. Not going to let this stop me. I will bandage it up and keep on trucking. Thu, 16 Feb 2012 12:46:38 EST Another year, another opportunity slipped past I see another year has passed me by and still no changes. The well-being thoughts are there. It is like I am afraid of the possibilities that will open up if I do succeed. Instead of thinking tomorrow I will do this, later today I will do that, I need to just do it. I am holding myself back from all the wonderul opportunities in life. I will be 42 in March. Do I want to let yet another year go by and before I know it, be in my 80's and looking back on life with regrets. It is true, we don't r... Sat, 31 Dec 2011 12:27:43 EST long time no write I just saw that it has been almost a year since I even blogged. Now I have been somewhat active in that year, just not like I should be. I was going to be fit at 40-well, 41 is creeping up on me-maybe it is better not to put a limit of things-just work at it day by day. I will give that a try, starting today when I get home from work. No ifs, it is a JUST DO IT. Thu, 2 Dec 2010 12:52:34 EST Been too long haven't been on Spark in awhile or I would;ve seen your email. My issue is: if it is in the house I can't resist. I have gotten out of exercising-I havent gained(YET). I am running around at my job on my feet all day long, so when I get home I am beat. I think of my bike sitting in the other room, but can't get motivated to get up. I think about the gym membership, but can't get there either. Excuses I know. My goal is to get to the gym tomorrow or definitely on the weekend to start. Tonight ... Thu, 2 Dec 2010 12:50:24 EST Carpe Diem Seize the Day - is going to be another mantra for me. I just finished reading a wonderful book (well actually listening to it on CD in the car). It was called: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society. The title was what drew me to the book. It was so odd sounding, I had to check it out. It is a work of fiction set just after world war 2. In the end the main character decides to 'seize the day'. I will be 40 years old next month and from now on-its living life to its fullest possibilitie... Tue, 9 Feb 2010 10:14:17 EST a good weekend The week was a bad one, and I am not sure why. I wasn't stressed about anything. I had bought some cookies and was constantly eating me - I think that started stressing me out, but I didn't stop until the bag was gone-5 days of eating cookies. Disgusting. But, not trying to beat myself up too much over it - I am back on track. Yesterday I went to the gym and today even though it was cold outside, the sun was shining brilliantly so I grabbed my music and headphones, went out onto the patio and... Sun, 7 Feb 2010 21:13:10 EST 2: hopefully never to be seen again I weighed myself tonight. I don't do it regularly, and I was quite hesitant. But it was in my favour. I dropped two pounds since my last weight check roughly two weeks ago. Not much-but it is encouraging. I have been trying to get more movement going. Just imagine what I could do, if my tendonitis wasn't plaguing me and keeping me from working out more vigorously! I guess slow and steady may win the race. Thu, 28 Jan 2010 19:12:23 EST Feel good day Well, this weekend is going differently then far. One moment at a time. I woke up and drove 30minutes to my gym. Seeing all the cars in the parking lot caused my anxiety levels to rise. But once inside, I could see that the ladies only side wasn't very busy. I worked out for roughly 45 minutes, then needed to leave as my tendonitis started aggravating my foot. It felt great to be back in the gym. I may go tomorrow, or just do things around the house and give my foot a day of ease. O... Sat, 23 Jan 2010 13:01:39 EST The Weekend Factor Weekends seem to be a bad time for me. I will work on that. I baked chocolate chip cookies - my 3 year old niece came over. Being 3 she didn't eat much, but even though I sent some home to her parents, I still ate what was in the house. I had my bag packed ready to drive 30 minutes to the gym, but stayed home instead, put in a dance cd and impact walked/jogged on the spot for 30 minutes. Then I went to town and bought one of those 10-minute solution DVD's. There are 5 different options, and i... Sun, 17 Jan 2010 20:02:33 EST Tuesday-I worked out I completed a power walk dvd tonight. I am sweaty so it had some effect. I drank plenty of water too. I feel good-tired but good. My tendonitis in my foot isn't aching too terribly. I haven't made it back to the gym yet - I will in time. I miss the ellipticals and the treadmill. I know I can't run on it yet though. I am on my path once again. This time I visualize success. I wake up in the morning with the mantra, "WHAT DO YOU WANT?', and I immediately do ab crunches before leaving the bed. I... Tue, 12 Jan 2010 20:00:47 EST IT'S TIME FOR FIT-ABULOUS! I am finished using my achilles tendonitis as an excuse not to exercise. Granted I have been doing arm strength training while waiting for my foot to heel. It is better than it was a year ago, even two years ago, but I think it is something I will be living with for the rest of my life. Soooooooooooo that means-I need to get on with life and grin and bear it. I want to be not only thinner, but more important to me-physically fit and strong-not manly strong-female strong.
Some hopeful ind... Mon, 11 Jan 2010 19:37:54 EST Halloween Ruin 2009 Halloween really messed me up - yet again. We had no kids this year, excepts both my brothers children. I think the H1N1 is the fear, and rightly so. Which left me with ALL this chocolate, and I had absolutely no will power. I am disgusted with myself, but tonight when I get home from work, I am putting in a workout tape and working out my weight frustrations -one step closer to great health. Mon, 2 Nov 2009 07:29:33 EST Slowly back on the Path to Health I cannot believe I haven't posted a blog in over a year. Maybe it is because I haven't been getting my regular workouts, and therefore haven't been making use of the spark site as much. I finally believe my achilles tendonitis may be on the mend. It has been 4 days with only minor pain at points throughout the day. I almost cannot believe it. It is strange to not have pain in my foot and be prepared to cringe in agony with each step I take. I haven't been to the gym in 9 months because of it.... Wed, 10 Jun 2009 07:57:21 EST Cruise over now what I have been back two weeks now from my fun vacation with my sister. I took a week afterwards and didnt go to the gym. I returned this week. The first day was difficult. I mean, my motivation had been a great deal based on looking good for our holiday. Now I need a new motivation. I will be 40 in less than two years-where did that time go. I have decided to become fabulously fit at 40. Woooooooooooooohoooooooooooooo. Fri, 30 May 2008 07:29:46 EST (no title) So, since my last blog, the scale moved a few pounds. That is good. I am motivated again. My vacation is in 3 weeks-swimsuit time. I know I will lose weight there, contantly moving around the ship and on excursions, but I would like to already be tip top when I get there. On the flip size that would mean my size 14 clothes I have all ready to pack would be too big. It's double-edged feelings. My sister is taking a kick box class. Two nights ago I started doing powerups, my legs are burning a... Thu, 17 Apr 2008 07:29:50 EST What does it take? Obviously I am not doing enough because I stepped on the scale today and it hasn't moved really since I began going to the gym. I know my shape has changed a bit with the inception of weight training, but other than that I am still the same. I really wanted to be spectacular for my vacation in just under 7 weeks. I will still have a good time, but all the insecurities are there. Tue, 25 Mar 2008 07:23:21 EST Feeling good Good morning all,
I am turning into a morning person. Don't get me wrong I like nothing better than being nice and cozy in my bed, but I feel sooooooooo Great after my morning workout. There are only 8 weeks until my vacation with my sister, so I am stepping up my routines. I may not lose weight before than but I will feel great-I already do. Have a great day people. Tue, 18 Mar 2008 07:28:48 EST January 9 2008 Hello fellow sparkers. I awoke at 5:20 am this morning, not unusual, but since today wasn't a scheduled gym morning for me, I didn't have my workout gear or work clothes ready to go. so instead, I got out of bed and went downstairs trying not to wake anyone, and started peddling on my recumbant. It's funny. I am not a morning person really, but I find getting up and going to the gym or working out at home easier then to do it after work, when there are so many more readily available excuses f... Wed, 9 Jan 2008 10:11:36 EST standing up today was rough at work. They began training me on mulitiple jobs and I wasn't even asked if I was interested in it. One aspect of it is okay-once I learn it, but the other aspect, doing invoices, is something I want no part of. I am not business minded, and don't pretend I want to be. I am a creative soul. Today I almost lost it. I did on the way home. I was being trained things, and then another team leader came to me wanting something done, and then another person came to me wanting someth...
