LINDY2013's SparkPeople Blog LINDY2013's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community October Already???? Yikes. I have not been on Spark for 176 days. When I am not on Spark, I am not only not successful, I actually go BACKWARDS. I have not stepped on scale yet today, but I know that I have gained weight. Even as I write, I know I am struggling with staying on track. I am struggling with eating right. I am struggling with staying focused. So today, I will work on drinking all of my water. I will also start with prayer.
I know that I was struggling to stay on Spark even before I we... Mon, 7 Oct 2013 16:18:58 EST Habit Forming Charts I guess I need something posted where I can see those habit forming charts I downloaded yesterday from this site for the four things I want to work on for at least 21 days. I walked yesterday and today, so I get to put 2 red marks on my chart, and I created 3 other charts for the water, tracking, and sugar, though I have not started the sugar one yet. I wonder if I just bit off too many things at once?
I shall see.
Mon, 15 Apr 2013 15:26:01 EST Walk/Jog/walk with my Brittany named Bailey He loved it, and so did I! I got on here and after watching my SparkCoach, decided to re watch some of the old videos to get myself back on track! Thanks, Coach Jen, for giving me some pointers for getting back on track! I am back to tracking my food, NO MATTER WHAT I EAT....I will use it as a tool to learn from...something that makes me go....hmmmmmm!!!!! How interesting!
I also learned today that 6 tsp of sugar is all women should have each day! And 6 tsp is equivalent to 24... Sun, 14 Apr 2013 15:33:48 EST Recovering from Tragedy My month has certainly been roller coaster. On March 1, I bought an APHA Palomino named Trigger, my first horse to buy since I was 19. However, on March 10, my darling daughter lost her baby girl who was due to be born at the end of this month. We were all devastated. It has certainly been an emotional month. So many highs, so many lows.
Today is my birthday, and one of my friends lost her mother to cancer earlier this morning.
I lost 5 pounds this month, only to have gaine... Thu, 28 Mar 2013 15:54:52 EST Staying focused Staying focused is NOT easy when life gets very busy! I just experienced it! I subbed for a teacher friend of mine who teaches in an area that I have always felt a bit He ends up teaching every student in the building in a two day period, and also teams up once a week with ANOTHER teacher who teaches in another area that I feel a bit intimidated...PE! I am retired after teaching 32 years in a 4th, 5th, or 6th grade classroom...or a combination of 4/5 or 5/6...but nev... Sat, 2 Mar 2013 11:00:27 EST What does Retired mean, anyway? Doesn't retired actually mean 'tired again'?
I retired from teaching in June 2011 at the age of 54. But I am NOT tired again and I did NOT retire from LIFE! Since my official 'retirement', my life has been filled with many more things, including subbing in the school district that I spent 32 years of my life! My friends encouraged me to continue to work with them even after retirement. I now work in THEIR classrooms on a pretty regular basis! I think one thing I like about subbing ... Sat, 9 Feb 2013 15:45:44 EST Reveling in the feeling of success! I LOVE the feeling one gets AFTER just finishing a workout! Even more, I am LOVING the fact that I tricked myself back into a workout. You see, I have been sick since Thursday afternoon. By Saturday, all I wanted to do was lay around and sleep...and try not to hack, cough, sneeze, and ache. By Monday, I was tired, but at least the ache was gone. I didn't do much except to walk from here to there yesterday. Today, when I got up, I still had the cough, and a bit of the sinus headache, but by ... Tue, 5 Feb 2013 23:07:43 EST FINALLY starting to feel better I slept most of the morning, and for the rest of the day I either read, paid my bills, or watched a video. The video was thought-provoking. It was Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, a documentary about two guys who juiced their way healthy. Except for this flu virus I seem to have contracted, I was finding that BLENDING was helping me! I was enjoying or otherwise...all with fruits, veggies or blended with Greek yogurt was great tasting, and making me feel good! I even had a smoothie ... Mon, 4 Feb 2013 01:08:17 EST Wheezing, coughing, sneezing, fever NOPE....NO exercise the past two days! I finally forced myself out of bed and drove to ww to weigh in. I lost 3.4 pounds...and though I have stayed within my calories and I have drank at least 10 glasses of water a dy..I have NOT exercised much in the past few days..and feel lethargic.
I just got on here to track my weightloss...time to go back to bed. I am cold and tired. Sat, 2 Feb 2013 17:33:25 EST Got the exercise in before I could talk myself out of it! This week has been hard to motivate myself to work out. I was coming down with a cough and cold, and felt flat out tired. Today, I decided that before I gave too much thought about what I was going to do, I announced to my sis that I would walk over to her house...she lives 1.3 miles away..not far..and drive to the barn with her and help her clean her horse's stall. My dog Bailey, who is a Brittany, LOVES to walk..and NEEDS a walk everyday, and so I bundled up and off we went, walking as fas... Wed, 30 Jan 2013 23:58:55 EST Another sneezing day My motivation is down today, and my sneezing is up. I wanted to eat the wrong stuff today. I stopped myself this evening with my little trick of water. I told myself that after I drank two 16.9 oz of water I could eat something. I no longer want it.
I am full. Whew. I dodged the bullet tonight! Tue, 29 Jan 2013 22:58:03 EST WAS Feeling Grumpy today EARLIER, when I WAS, I wrote:
But I am not letting me use that as an excuse to eat! I am instead, using it as a reason to ponder. Am I tired? Am I thirsty? Am I bored? Am I upset about something in particular? What can I do about it?
I think I am feeling grumpy because I am tired, and have a bit of a headache. I am babysitting today, and do not feel I have the energy to follow this little one around. I haven't exercised a walk would be good...but not outside...i... Mon, 28 Jan 2013 17:45:52 EST Enjoyed my cauliflower soup on the second day, too! I was proud of myself yesterday...I made a few of the recipes from the Recipe section on SP and even had leftovers for today! My hubby brought some of my Turkey TexMex Calzone to work with him, and I had the cauliflower soup left over from yesterday! I made enough yesterday for 4 helpings...and there is only 2 of us!
My other recipe that I made was my Green smoothies and a Strawberry smoothie...but I didn't get those recipes from here.
I love the fact that I finally found a 'milk'... Sun, 27 Jan 2013 23:47:42 EST Lesson learned Yesterday I decided that since Saturday was weigh in day for me, and I had made an unwise decision to eat a Cobb Salad (1440 mg of SODIUM!) I would drink lots of water...and exercise ...exercise until I sweat!! So I did.
Today....I lost 1.6 at weigh in ...I will TAKE IT!!!
Whew!
Lesson learned. Shari's has a website to track nutrition...calories, sodium..etc. I know which food I will NOT eat before a weigh in again! And this particular food...if I have it again..I am gonna ... Sat, 26 Jan 2013 17:20:18 EST Quick and Easy meals for me Dr. Oz Green drink and a piece of almond toast

Greek yogurt smoothie made of nonfat greek yogurt plain, 1/2 cup almond milk unsweetened, frozen berries , Stevia and a veggie patty.

deli chicken, salad, tomato bisque soup, pita chips.

Okay...will add to it later.
The first two meals above are NOT dinners. They can be lunch, breakfast, or even a snack! ESPECIALLY when I am on the go.

But...time to add more to this list....hmmmmm
... Fri, 25 Jan 2013 21:28:13 EST Learned a sad lesson today Salads are not always the greatest choice at a restaurant. Shudder. I had had such a good day, too! I had had an appointment this morning with my doctor to go over my latest blood tests. We set this appt up in December after my annual exam when she told me that my sugar levels were over 100 for the very first time...making me 'pre-diabetic' and my cholesterol was high.... So..after the holidays I set my 2013 goals towards a healthy tracking...everything. Today my levels w... Fri, 25 Jan 2013 01:24:07 EST Thoughts about Tracking I subbed today...I'd like to do it at least once a week now that I am retired, I have a school of former colleagues that ask me to sub in their classroom...and that brings up a thought. I have been tracking for 3 weeks straight now....two weeks here, which is when I joined SP, and one week with my WW tracker...but this is the first time I have subbed since I started diligently tracking.
I found I had little time to track.
I ate breakfast this morning, but then dashed out of the ho... Tue, 22 Jan 2013 23:41:06 EST Learning about Carbohydrates I am fascinated by the nutrition tracker. I can't believe I am saying that. I can't believe I don't mind tracking! That has always been my hardest thing to make myself do. But there is a little item in the nutrition tracker that is keeping me tracking. It is the little pie chart I can look at to see how I am doing with fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. Even though all of my foods were healthy foods...I can still get too much Carbohydrate! Today it was the simple matter of having a ban... Sun, 20 Jan 2013 21:44:24 EST An idea for me to put into practice When I went to WW today I lost 1.8 pounds! Woohoo! I celebrated by taking my dog for a walk with my best friend and her dog. An hour goes by fast when you have someone to walk with on a cold wintry day! Brrr...still only in the 30's....with an inversion layer of fog. However, the longer we walked, the warmer I got...imagine that!
So....walking with a friend is a good thing!
That is not the idea I want to put into practice, though I do want to put that one into practice! My ... Sat, 19 Jan 2013 20:43:17 EST I love the videos on this site! The weather outside was still dreadful today. We have had an inversion layer with 30-36 degree temps....freezing fog....brrr! I did walk my dogs but 15 minutes was all I could handle, along with a quick trip to the barn to clean a stall, brush a horse, put his blanket back on and then feed him. Tomorrow is my weigh in at WW so I wanted some sort of last chance workout before morning weigh I checked out the videos! One cardio and one Pilates later and I feel refreshed and ready for t... Sat, 19 Jan 2013 00:38:51 EST Dr. Oz Green Drink, yum! My blender has had quite a workout this week! I am trying to add something different each time I make these smoothies. Each one has been delicious! This morning I made it with: spinach, mint, parsely, cucumber, romaine lettuce, pineapple, apple, 1/4 lime, orange, and a package of stevia. It is yummy! The blender made over 32 oz, and I drank on it all day! I also added a protein blueberry marion berry raspberry smoothie with my dinner....super yum! Thu, 17 Jan 2013 21:21:25 EST Babysitting....I wonder what the calorie burn is for that? I watched my best friend's granddaughter today. She is 17 months old, and has a smile that could light up a room! She was definitely a mover, and I followed her around all day. I tried to keep standing or moving all day. Even after I stubbed my little toe while dust mopping while the little one was asleep. It is actually swollen and black and blue....still throbbing...wonder if I broke it? Tue, 15 Jan 2013 00:06:13 EST Tracking I have spent my afternoon so far just checking out this SparkPeople website. Wow. Ican see that this was well thought out...a great mixture of ideas, support, motivation, and accountability. I tried a few videos, a few that were informational, two that started me on the path of toning. I read and enjoyed a few informational articles. I am now MOTIVATED....just NOT for what I have to do next.......bundle up in this 28 degree weather.....brrr.... still 28 at almost 4 pm! ...and drive to t... Sun, 13 Jan 2013 18:39:29 EST Day 2 and still cold....but still going strong! Weight watcher weigh in today....lost 2 pounds! I believe it is all due to tracking. I just wrote down everything I ate this week, but did not count points...did not even weigh or measure the foods! I think I will just do that for awhile. Last night I tried making that green drink by dr. Oz...yummy except next time I am going to do it in the blender, NOT the juicer! Treadmill for 30 min. Sat, 12 Jan 2013 22:13:37 EST Cold today! Brrrr!!!! My husband was kind enough to put our exercise equipment in the garage for the winter, instead of the shop. I have a treadmill, an elliptical, and a Total Gym....which I do not really know how to use. We have had these pieces of equipment for over 2 years.....sad, but true. I have no excuses. I even got a Giant bicycle for Christmas last year. I have not used it as much as I wanted. Last year seemed to be the year for everyone else, just not us.....or so I said. I think it is easier to...
