LINDAVB4251's SparkPeople Blog LINDAVB4251's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Time with GrandGirks We are driving today from Ohio to Washington, D.C. With our eldest GrandGirls. We have packed our bikes and are going to bike the Capital. We are planning on bringing a bit of history to life. Have a great week, everyone. Sun, 16 Apr 2017 12:51:58 EST A bit slower Auto-immune issues can be a challenge. After many years, I was diagnosed with Celiac. Change of diet is all that is required. I also have Hashimoto's. My function is normal, so no meds. But in the past year or so, I have had to work harder to drop inches and it hasn't really worked. I tire easier than usual and I haven't slept well. I have attributed all of this to my slow thyroid. On a trip to my chiropractor for an adjustment and after some tests, he gave me a surprising diagnosis. I have... Tue, 28 Mar 2017 07:30:02 EST Here's to a memorable 2016 We have so much to be grateful for every day if we open our eyes, don't we?!

Our son, Ryan and daughter-in-love, Samma have been trying to get pregnant for almost 5 years. After all of the tests, they decided to go IVF. Two were implanted with a 56% chance of them both 'taking'. They told us Labor Day they are expecting twins. We find out the if we have boys or girls or one of each at midnite in a "gender reveal party". The babies are due in April.
Our daughter, Stephanie an... Thu, 31 Dec 2015 06:59:27 EST Fell off I have not been exercising regularly the past 2 or 3 weeks. Not sure why. I just haven't put it in my schedule. In a lot of cases, I have made 10,000 steps - or close - but it hasn't been because of active exercising.
Yesterday I spent the day moving livingroom furniture and washing walls, etc. I know I burned a lot of calories.
But today I am putting my exercise regimen back in place.

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 07:15:43 EST Making Time I have a new goal: scheduling.
I am working on better time management. I find I am not as much in balance as I want to be. There are days I don't exercise or I don't get to something I want to get done in the house, because I get involved in something else.
I am self employed, and I use my daytimer for everything. So, I have decided to try scheduling in my book my time for things I want to get done: exercise 9-10; painting a room 11-1; lunch 12-1; filing in the office (yuck!)1-2,... Fri, 2 Oct 2015 06:33:00 EST Slow but sure I am not a runner. I have tried, and it just isn't my cup of tea. It would probably be different if I had a running buddy. However, I have been much more religious about walking on a regular basis. And, while it is a slower way to eliminate weight, I was fortunate enough to reduce 5 1/2 inches in the past month. (However, I am also at my lowest weight since 2011)
And this summer we have been doing major landscaping as we have been pulling out bushes that did not survive this last harsh ... Sat, 22 Aug 2015 09:02:41 EST Just a glorious day! I had surgery this Tuesday for removal of a cyst. I have some real positive issues out of this: 1) All of the pathology is negative. It is what the doctor assumed, but just verifying it is a relief. 2) I took my last pain medicine night before last. I have had some pain, but mostly it is the gas they fill one up with. And I can live with the discomfort as it is working out of my system. The tenderness from the laparoscopy is just that - tender - and I am just more careful: not worthy of pain... Sat, 9 May 2015 17:48:10 EST How long? Saturday night Gary and I went to a local winery for dinner. The band was called 'Back When' - and we really enjoyed the music. We love to jitterbug (actually, we call it that, but Gary just makes up steps and I follow him, and we look like we planned it (smiley face) and the music was just right for that.
At one point, this group of ladies at a table (young widows all, it turned out) called us over. One of them asked how long we have been married. I said that this summer it would be 35... Mon, 4 May 2015 15:48:13 EST A new spark! My new Spark Tracker came in the mail today. I am so excited! I used a pedometer this past week, but it fell off several times and it also reset part of the way through the day a number of times.

I will secure my new tracker somewhere that I will keep it near me all the time. And I put my phone number on the back of it.

I look forward to the automatic tracking to my page.
That is the biggie to me: the automatic tracking.
I love my Spark Tracker! 244</... Sat, 25 Apr 2015 18:36:49 EST Lost my Spark The result of eating less and moving more has had the added benefit of looser pants. I work by appointment, and yesterday I was out all day.
I got home and changed my clothes and realized that my tracker was gone.

So, on Monday I am going to call the different places I was to see if they have seen it.

Such a bummer! Sat, 18 Apr 2015 05:19:32 EST Raising my own bar I have changed my goals this week for my health regimen.
I am scheduling my workouts and pushing myself further than I have in the past.
I am not eliminating every food that isn't good for me (I love a marguerita when we eat Mexican food), but I am finding that as I exercise more, I am not as hungry. Pretty cool!
And we are gathering information on new bikes - lighter ones - because we would like to take some really long rides this season.
So, here's to strong bones... Thu, 26 Mar 2015 10:37:38 EST Harder than I thought On my business trip, I expected to be able to have plenty of time to exercise. But, I didn't plan on how tired I would be after being in meetings from 8 - 6 every day. We also get together with associates after 6 and aren't back at our hotel until 9 - 10 pm
So, today is my last day in meetings, and tomorrow we are heading to see friends. It will be a very different next 3 days.

It is ok - because every day poses a chance for a new beginning.

Sat, 7 Mar 2015 07:03:09 EST Traveling and Working Out I leave tomorrow evening for a business trip to Florida. My Heart is going with me. He says he is my driver. He has made sure that there is an exercise room in our hotel. We have been enjoying our time working out together. I plan to wake up an hour earlier than I need to so I can swim or jump on a treadmill. I will need the energy to sit 4 days in meetings.
After my convention, we are visiting a friend of mine for 3 days. That is where we will have more of a challenge.
I have pr... Mon, 2 Mar 2015 10:21:38 EST A trade off - for now! In our snow belt area of Northeastern Ohio, outside exercise can be a challenge. We live in the country, so a walk on the road this time of year is a game of chicken with the snow plow.
And this morning it is 6 degrees. BRRR!

The forecast is for 8-14" of snow to drop on us Sunday evening.

So, I am very happy to spend a bit of time on my bike, elliptical or treadmill - dreaming of warm sunshine and the smell of Spring flowers.
87... Sat, 31 Jan 2015 08:10:53 EST Snow in Ohio Overnight we got 10 inches of 'partly cloudy' here in the snow belt of Ohio.
It is beautiful, but the winds that have come with it can cause loss of visibility on the roads.
I spent half an hour shoveling the walk way this morning.
The weather person in Cleveland says we will probably get another dozen inches before this time tomorrow morning.

I am not so crazy about driving in this, but shoveling it: okay! ! ! Wed, 7 Jan 2015 08:18:00 EST Atkins - or Balanced ? My hubby decided to get healthier this year and I am so excited about it.
He is beginning to exercise and January 1st saw him begin the Atkins diet.
He has had HUGE results so far!

I tried Atkins once before, but I didn't lose as much weight as I did when I had a balanced diet with reduced carbs.

So, I have decided to cut out bread and reduce or eliminate most starches, but I just don't want to eliminate fresh fruit.

My results haven't been as "... Mon, 5 Jan 2015 14:35:20 EST Spark Tracker Issue Resolved After our vacation, I began having a problem with my spark tracker. It wasn't correctly tracking steps and exercise. I have been in discussion with the tech folks at Spark People. The end result is that I needed to send it in for an exchange.

I have enjoyed this tracker and find myself working harder to make sure I hit my goals. So, I have missed having it on my belt.

But I commend the spark team for making it right.

Fri, 2 Jan 2015 07:34:11 EST A work in progress I am constantly learning about myself.
I enjoyed so much the moving I did through the summer and the fall. But I fell off from November thru December and it shows in my weight and the way my clothes fit.
But rather than beating myself up, I know now that no matter how much I eat, my metabolism requires more movement to maintain.
And I know how good I felt when I was spending an extra 10 - 20 minutes a day on the bike or walking up the road.
So, every day gives us a chan... Tue, 30 Dec 2014 07:14:19 EST Home from vacation! A 7 day cruise with our daughter, son, daughter(in law) and 2 GrandGirls! What a time!
The food was amazing! Our eldest granddaughter found she loved escargot and squid. The youngest found she loved shrimp that was not breaded. I just enjoyed so much by watching them.

We walked our legs off in Jamaica; swam with stingrays and snorkelled in Grand Cayman; and swam with dolphins, followed by a lot of walking through the town of Cozumel, Mexico.

I came back with a 2#... Tue, 25 Nov 2014 10:39:51 EST Considering an add-on tracker I usually put my tracker in my pocket. The last two days I did it, and then changed clothes and forgot to transfer it to my change of clothes. I went through the whole day and then realized that I had done it. So, my steps aren't what they really were.

I know it isn't the most important thing, but I want to be accountable to myself for my steps.

So, I am going to think about a bracelet. Mon, 3 Nov 2014 09:21:18 EST I'M BACK!!!! Getting back on the horse after you have fallen off is NOT EASY!!!
I had some upper respiratory "thing" that really got me down....It was the better part of a month before the coughing finally stopped. And I didn't do much during that time. And near the end of it we went to Chicago for 5 days. We walked, but I didn't do any specific exercise. And this last week I got into gluten somehow and dropped 4# in a day (the hard way). It knocks me down for a couple of days.
But just gettin... Fri, 24 Oct 2014 20:42:23 EST Chicago bound Tomorrow we leave for Chicago. It is a bi-annual business trip for my husband and his business partner. The wife of one of his partners and the controller are also going. The 5 of us are great friends, and we make everything we do an adventure. On one of our trips to Chicago, we learned to ride segways.
I am the oldest but most adventuresome of the 3 girls. They go along with me, even though sometimes they are nervous. Once I had the idea to go garage saling in the suburbs while the gu... Tue, 7 Oct 2014 09:36:15 EST Sneaking in exercise Yesterday I had to have some work done on my car. They told me it would be 30 minutes and asked if I was leaving it or waiting. I said I was taking a walk and would be back before noon. So, I packed my mace ( safety) mp3 player and my phone and took an almost 3 mile walk in 45 minutes. I so enjoyed the scenery that I only had one ear bud in. And I was proud of myself, because at another time in my life, I would have taken a book and read.
When I came back the office manager asked about... Sat, 27 Sep 2014 08:01:53 EST No Spark Tracker A week ago today my spark tracker stopped tracking. We have tried to re-install a number of times to no avail. And we have been in constant contact with Spark People Support. (They are wonderful!)I always have it in a pocket or on my shoe even though it is not visibly working, but I feel a bit lost without the extra bit of info as to steps, etc.
I expect to have it back up and running maybe tomorrow.

In the meantime, I think I will be doing some outdoor work as the the weat... Wed, 24 Sep 2014 09:11:58 EST Around the block My husband and I went on a bike ride around our block. We live in the country, and our block is kind of a rectangle of 7.38 miles of hills and today, lots of wind. The last leg is comprised of 2 huge hills. I wasn't sure if I would be able to do it today without stopping. But I remembered my daughter telling me something her yoga teacher taught her: focus on a spot. So, I focussed on the top of a telephone pole on top of the hill. I just kept looking at it. As I met him at the top, my hubby s... Sun, 21 Sep 2014 13:25:11 EST Recovering After a whirlwind flight to Texas on Friday, where we bought a car for our newly divorced daughter, we drove the 18 hours(just drive time) home to Ohio. We stopped after a 10 hour drive in the rain in St. Louis, where we slept for the night. My hubby made sure there was an indoor pool and an exercise room, because he knew I would want to exercise. I didn't anticipate the level of tiredness I would feel. I was asleep almost as soon as we were in for the night, and I never heard him get up in t... Sun, 14 Sep 2014 10:43:57 EST August to September progress I wish I had begun measuring myself at the beginnning of June, when I seriously began this adventure. I weighed 6# more than now, but my body was so different. The measurements I last put on my spark page are from 3/2013. I had gained quite a bit of roundness from 3/2013 - 6/2014. Quite a bit. And, while I measured myself in August 2014 and put it in my journal at home, I didn't put it on my spark page. (Brain freeze :) )
But, I am very happy to begin to see positive results. In the pas... Thu, 11 Sep 2014 09:44:44 EST The summer to fall I am challenged with a bit of a cold or a weather change thing. I had a sore throat yesterday. I took a decongestant this morning to head it off.
I have a full day with work and other personal chores, and I want to put exercise in there. But I wasn't sure if that was a good idea. If I got too tired, would it hamper my cold going away earlier?
So, today, on my start page was the article about exercising when you have a cold. (SPARK.COM - are you mind readers?) And there was my ans... Tue, 9 Sep 2014 08:56:36 EST Getting into the exercise This last week my daughter and GrandGirls came in at the tail end of my time with Jillian Michaels and a shred it with weights workout. And then on Friday,
my daughter saw me doing 5 BIG miles with Leslie Sansonne. And she knows how dedicated I have been to getting into shape and maintaining good physical health.
Yesterday she asked if we could workout together and so we decided on "Hip Hop Abs - cardio party". It was both fun and funny, as we decided we aren't the dancers we tho... Sun, 7 Sep 2014 09:45:17 EST IT'S FRIDAY! In Northeast Ohio today, it will be close to 90 degrees: probably our last HOORAH of the summer. It will begin to cool down after today. But that being said, we are going into a stunning season: ablaze with color and brisk air. It is a great time to take long walks, pick pumpkins and take bike rides without all the humidity.
I give thanks every day for the life I have.

Take care, everyone! Have a wonderful weekend! 259 Fri, 5 Sep 2014 09:11:05 EST Not My Best Week ...but I expect that will change. I was really working my goal steps through power walking or recumbent bike, without a whole lot of change. So, I thought this week that I would do other exercises, to "shake up" my body.
It felt like a difficult week, as I did different exercises, but fell short on my daily steps.
At the end of the week, I find that I need to walk every day or whatever it takes to get get to my goal and then also add strength training.
I am learning.
I ... Sun, 31 Aug 2014 20:12:11 EST A day of activity Yesterday was a day of fun! My girlfriends and I went to a flea market while our guys golfed. We were there for most of the morning.
Then in the evening my husband, Gary (I call him 'My Heart') and I went to a local dance hall. My cousins have a great band - they play mostly country -and we danced well into the night. Our daughter, Stephanie joined us, and we had so much fun!
These are the same cousins that bring their guitars, violins and mandolins to our family reunion and play ... Sun, 24 Aug 2014 12:51:34 EST Ditch the scale? That is what my husband suggests. I get on every morning, and it fluctuates, depending on what I have eaten the night before: ex: 1 ear of corn= 3-4#.

But, my body is changing. I am beginning to wear clothes I couldn't wear at the beginning of summer. I have a couple of pairs of pants I couldn't wear last summer.

So, I am continuing to do some sort of cardio most days - although my goal is 4 days a week. And I am watching my portion size.
And I am tracking my bod... Thu, 21 Aug 2014 12:31:55 EST Biking first time this year My husband got my bike down from its hanger in the garage. I have been excited to start riding.
Our road is somewhat hilly, so when there were times that I could coast, I did. I was surprised that after all of the walking that I have done my legs were so fatigued after only 4 miles on the bike. It tells me that changing my workout is going to be good.
My Spark Tracker registered .85 miles - I am guessing it is because I didn't have my feet going the whole time.
It was great ... Sat, 16 Aug 2014 10:14:49 EST Addicted my Spark Tracker! And I believe it is because I have not had exercise as a regular part of my life, so I want to make sure I hit the goals I have set for myself.
It is now getting easier to gauge how many steps for different activities. I am convinced that soon I will also focus on fitness minutes...not only on steps.
But I DO love my Spark!

And while my daily step goal for this week is up to 8000, I have averaged over 10,000 steps a day for the past 7 days. <BR... Thu, 14 Aug 2014 07:18:16 EST Tuesdays are Mondays You know how you always hear people say dread going back to work on Monday so much that they are sick, or blood pressure is elevated?
Today I woke up at 4:30 because I had to take my husband to work as he is going out of town for a couple of days and didn't want to leave a car there.
And I relaxed for a couple of hours before my GrandGirls came over. We have spent the morning taking showers and talking.
I just don't feel motivated to exercise or get paperwork organized or any... Tue, 12 Aug 2014 11:46:37 EST A Great Family Reunion During the summer we have 3 good size family get-togethers. Our house is the perfect place for it. We live on 8 acres - 3 of them mowed. We have a pool and a play yard, so there is plenty for the kids to do.
On July 4th, my husband's siblings and our nieces and nephews come to our home for a picnic.
Later that month is a reunion for my Dad's side of the family.
And in August is the reunion for my Mom's side of the family.
This one was today. Lots of down home cooking ... Sat, 9 Aug 2014 22:05:52 EST Lifted! I have been determined to do at least 30 minutes a day 4 days a week of some form of cardio. I have now created a spark streak.
I am logging in every day to Spark People (although yesterday I was on the website and forgot to log in and ruined my 31 day streak), and am maintaining my exercise routine.
I really haven't seen any big change in weight, but my clothes are beginning to fit better. And, in reading 'The Spark', Chris says to expect that at first.
It is getting easie... Thu, 7 Aug 2014 21:17:09 EST New Week 07/27/14 - 08/02/2014 My week begins on Sunday. This week's fitness goal is to 7000 steps a day and exercise 30 minutes a day x 4 days a week, minimum.
I bought the Spark Tracker and began with the minimum 6000 steps.
I have changed my goal each week to add 500 steps per day.
And I am scheduling exercise time in my daytimer. If it is written, I will do it.
Excited to be on this journey and enjoying the success I have had to date. Mon, 28 Jul 2014 08:53:26 EST Learning my way to healthy. I have been off and on again with Spark People. I don't know why. And I don't know when exactly, but recently it "clicked", and I made a decision to be healthier. I am a bit overweight and have osteoporosis, but otherwise very healthy. I know that I need to build stronger bones. So, after research, I bought the Spark Tracker( I am addicted to seeing how close I am to my step goal). I left the step goal at 6000 steps (which is more than I have done in a day for a while) and exercise 4 x week ... Sat, 19 Jul 2014 10:02:40 EST Looking forward to a strong and healthy 2013 The local hospital, in conjunction with our local YMCA and 2 fitness clubs is hosting a program called 'Fitness for Life'. It is educational: classes about nutrition, reading labels, and optional classes on diabetes, cholesterol, etc. Every 2 weeks they have a trainer come to the meetings to discuss the physical challenge for that period. I have been doing the challenges nearly each day. And the nutritional challenges have been met most every day. That feels great! I have had tendonitis in m... Fri, 1 Feb 2013 14:26:06 EST
