LINDA!'s SparkPeople Blog LINDA!'s Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Thankful In November

This morning I went swimming. It is still very hot in Florida. Our temps over the past few days have been in the 90s. Swimming is a great way to get a nice cooldown. As I was swimming, I was aware of mourning doves on the fence, which surrounds the pool. I hear birds everyday. But nothing is as soothing as the sound of a coo from a dove. I wish I had my camera and could have taken pictures. ... Thu, 5 Nov 2015 21:26:13 EST Challenging Myself To Track Properly
Tracking is such an important part of our journey to lose weight. It is a habit that began, for me, when I started Weight Watchers. I was successful with WW because throughout the day I would list what I ate. Therefore, I would not forget any morsel that went into my mouth, by keeping up with tracking. I did very well with tracking on Spark People for years. But over the last year, I have gotten lazy. I have also noticed that my weight has increased by a few pounds. I know that I need t... Mon, 5 Oct 2015 23:27:44 EST There Is SOME Progress...Still On My Journey It is autumn, already, the year is passing quickly. I have made some progress in my journey. I can tell that my waist is a bit smaller due to my combo of strength exercises and cardio. Not eating after dinner and water intake has also helped. I have more firmness in my hips and thighs. All this considered, I do feel that the lifestyle change is helping. I am not near my goal, however.

I have joined the BLC Camo Crew team and help as a co-captain. I also am a member of the 5 % Chall... Sat, 26 Sep 2015 23:19:31 EST Had A Nice Day - Smile What a nice day. I missed the gym but I did take a walk. I went to get my nails done. Also, had a great chat with a friend.

I stepped on the scale. There is no recent weight loss. But no gain either. I am continuing to skip any eating after dinner. Also, working out daily. I still take all of the meds for my medical conditions. It appears that there has been interference with weight loss. A beta blocker that I take and others seem to work against me.

However, it seems t... Wed, 9 Sep 2015 19:45:55 EST This And That......On A Saturday I have gained 3 pounds in the past month. I normally stay close to the same weight. Too many activities have revolved around food recently. I have not decreased any exercise so that is not an issue. I have decided NO FOOD after 6pm. Normally, I do not eat after dinner. My plan is to eat earlier. I will increase my water intake through out the day. It has not shown to anyone that my weight has increased. In fact, I got a compliment recently that I was looking thinner. I don't really understand... Sat, 5 Sep 2015 21:56:43 EST Better Choices After I read my Spark Friend, MexGal1's recent blog, it brought to mind things that I see at the grocery store. When I go grocery shopping I see so much junk food. I am a bit nosy and often look in others grocery carts. When I see a cart full of junk food and children with the shopper, I feel a little sad. I know that I ate a lot of junk food when I was young. If you start your life thinking junk food is good to eat, it is often the way you continue to eat. I grew up in the 60's and born in... Thu, 13 Aug 2015 20:56:55 EST It Has Been A Busy Summer But I Am Seeing Progress This summer we have had three sets of family members visit us. It was great, but it certainly kept us busy. I will say that it has made our retired and slow lives a lot more interesting. I have been able to keep up with exercise. I had to skip the gym on many occasions. However, walking, swimming and outdoor activities kept me busy and building fitness minutes.

We left Florida and returned to Ohio to attend our youngest daughter's college graduation. It was an exciting time. Not o... Wed, 12 Aug 2015 16:49:18 EST I Avoided Another Major Fall (Thank You God) - This Time It Was The Shower! Being an active BLC Camo Crew member, exercise is so important for me. In 2011 I fell and broke several bones. One left me with a disability in my right shoulder. Today I woke up and decided to head to the gym. So I went to the shower before putting on my workout clothes. Low and behold, I slipped in the shower. I have NO idea how I stayed upright. My left foot was barely straight and my right leg was in the area as I tried to balance myself. Thank God, I did not fall. Truly, God spared me. I... Thu, 23 Jul 2015 13:22:36 EST I will be using the all knowing Magic 8 Ball to make all decisions! Sometimes I feel as though I may as well use a magic 8 ball to make decisions. I sometimes make the craziest decisions.

It is the same way with losing weight. I tried low carb, Weight Watchers, The Dukan Diet - they all worked....until I gained back the weight.

The O... Sun, 19 Jul 2015 19:17:46 EST Busy Week, Family, My Jeans Were Tight Today We are enjoying our week. Because we are retired, many days are slow and quiet. It is only when we have family with us that we have a lot of activity. My exercise has continued this week. I have not been able to go to the gym as often. But I have been walking, swimming and other activities. The past two days I have been eating bread and other carbs. For me, that always means an increase in belly fat. Today I tried to put on a pair of jeans that I wore last weekend. They did not fit around my ... Fri, 17 Jul 2015 13:10:24 EST Feeling Better

It has been a couple of weeks since I started using a CPAP for severe sleep apnea. I was hesitant at first. I really did not want to sleep with it. As a person that has had severe headaches, since childhood, I am pleasantly surprised that my headaches are gone. If the only benefit from the CPAP is the loss of my severe headaches - that would make this ordeal worth it. However, I know that my heart disease and diabetes will also benefit from this treatment.

I have often ... Tue, 23 Jun 2015 23:00:40 EST On A Snacking Binge

It seems that I do so well eating within calorie range for 2 or 3 weeks. I find that I then fall back into the mode of snacking. When I was young, especially in high school, I snacked excessively. At that time, I did not gain weight. I was more active at that time. At this time there are no triggers that start me to snack. I am not upset or have any reason to be stressed. I will see an ad o... Sun, 7 Jun 2015 22:06:42 EST It's Swimsuit Season

I live in Florida, basically swimsuit season is very long here. Now I know that at 60, a bikini is not in my foreseeable future. Well, having said that, I see many amazing looking older women on the beach and some do wear a bikini. I am just fine with a pretty one piece. I am in overdrive trying to look better this year. I have fit more strength exercises into my daily routine. I will say th... Sun, 24 May 2015 19:14:45 EST Sleep Apnea - A CPAP is in my future

Finally, I have the long awaited results from my first sleep study. The diagnosis is Severe Sleep Apnea. The test was requested by my cardiologist. There were 203 breathing disturbances during my sleep. I also was reported to have loud snoring. Oh, isn't that funny. I always complain to my husband that he snores and he always says I do. Well, now I know that I REALLY do. 39 With all of the other results... Tue, 28 Apr 2015 19:41:01 EST Are You Ready? BLC 28 Challenge

Do you enjoy challenges? While I am not a competitive person, I do often challenge myself. I enjoy doing various exercises. I bore easily. Therefore, I do something different during the week. I have been with the BLC for several years. I enjoy it because I learn something different each round. There are often articles about nutrition and fitness. We also try to challenge ourselves to eating a certain amount of veg... Thu, 16 Apr 2015 13:18:28 EST 30 Years Later I was going through photos today. I wanted to add an old photo of me to my photo gallery. I wanted to inspire myself to get that spark to lose more weight. More important than weight, I want to lose more inches. That has always been the most important thing for me. I turned 60 on April 1st. I still find it difficult to believe that I am the big 6-0! I need to wrap my mind around that. None of us ever feel that we age even though our body and stamina remind us that we do. I found a picture fr... Thu, 2 Apr 2015 23:30:41 EST What Should I Do? Do you ever feel as though you don't know whether you are coming or going?

I have felt this way for a couple of weeks. Not feeling well, sinus infection. I feel better one day and poorly the next. I do have some doctor appointments coming up in April. I also have a sleep study to do during the first week of April. I dread doing it. But my cardiologist ordered me to get it done. After two years of telling me to do it - I finally will. I have gone through a few ideas about Spark. I ... Mon, 23 Mar 2015 19:14:36 EST How Was Your Friday?

My Friday the 13th started out well. I felt fine. Last night hubby told me that he wanted to go out to breakfast this morning. We went to a new small restaurant in our community. It was very crowded but we were seated right away. Great, I thought...we will be able to eat soon. Our order was taken before many that came around the same time we did. There were different waitresses so that may have made a difference... Fri, 13 Mar 2015 21:37:12 EST Positive Results - Losing Body Fat

This week I was weighed and measured at Curves. I had lost weight. I also have lost two inches in the past month. One inch off my waist and one inch off of my hips. Oy, two of my problem areas. That made me happy. The best thing about the results found was over two inches loss of body fat. It is always difficult to lose body fat.

I have always found that what works for me is to mix up exercise. I walk e... Sat, 21 Feb 2015 11:15:03 EST Beauty At Any Age I read this article today online. We are not surprised when we see beautiful or handsome Supermodels. What may seem unusual, older women and men are also beautiful. As we age, most of us are looking at our wrinkles, forehead creases, etc. But even with that - we can still be beautiful. Take a look at this 83 year old Supermodel. She is a great example of a beauty at any age.

rmen-dellorefice-cover-new-you-stood-u
p-for-age_n_666131... Thu, 12 Feb 2015 14:24:10 EST Hold On....You Can Do It Here we are in the into the NEW YEAR. One month has passed. How many of us have made resolutions for 2015? How many have realized that we cannot achieve those goals? Did you give up? I hope you did not. Do you realize that there are 12 months in a year? If so, why would we think we cannot do it when we only have limited ourselves to the first month. I say that we can get back on track. I have three grandchildren. The middle grandchild is 10 years old. This week she began experiencing problems in school. She is a pretty girl. She is also a tall and thin girl. However, she began hearing other children say to her that she is fat. Of course, she is not but in her mind she believes it is true. She heard other cruel remarks. I know that this occurs in schools. It is unfortunate that it does.

I remember as a teen, I was also thin. I recall my best friends mother sayin... Sat, 24 Jan 2015 21:02:37 EST Motivation

I have mentioned this in other blogs. However, my feelings have not changed. Being on challenge teams really motivates me to try harder. Some people like to compete with others. I really like to compete with myself. I want to see progress. I also want others to know that a 59 year does not have to just sit around and watch television all day. I can do things to keep me active and happy.

This week has be... Thu, 22 Jan 2015 22:25:50 EST Consistency in 2015

While I had a fairly good 2014, my weight loss is nothing to brag about. I could have done better. I know why I did not lose more. I was not consistent with eating the right foods. I find that I often go through spells where I eat very well. That will be followed by bouts of sugar, sugar and more sugar! I will not set resolutions in 2015. I will continue to follow Spark and that will normally keep me on track. I wi... We look forward to the festivities and the great food. This year I wanted to avoid the norm. We had our turkey dinner on Wednesday evening at a restaurant. We made some chicken on Thursday. No leftovers either evening. I lost one pound over the Thanksgiving weekend. I was determined not to gain. I skipped desserts, soft drinks and did not eat after 6pm. I also walked everyday 2 - 3 miles per day and also did yoga. My plan for Christmas and New Years Eve will be simil... Thu, 13 Nov 2014 14:46:21 EST Another Good Month - Lost 7 Inches I had my measurements done today at Curves. It was earlier than usual for me to measure - only 3 weeks. However, we now have a contest beginning and today was measurement day for me. I will say I stepped on the scale first. I have lost 1 pound. I really lose weight slowly.

Now onto the measurements. I have lost 7 inches in the past 3 weeks. I will tell you that I am amazingly happy. Fri, 31 Oct 2014 15:15:15 EST A GOOD Week - My Body Fat Is Decreasing - So Happy!

I nervously anticipated my weigh-in/measurement day at the gym this week. Although, I keep active everyday with some form of exercise - I am older. I don't lose weight as quickly as others. I also had eaten too much sodium two days prior to the weigh-in. My thought was just go ahead and DO IT! Get it over with.

I was pleasantly surprised. I had lost 4.5 inches and my Body Fat decreased by 1.72 pounds... Sat, 11 Oct 2014 00:02:33 EST Monday - Trying To Stay Healthy I am having a nice week. I went to the movie and also took a walk today. It is sunny and warm. I am so pleased with the weather. A few years ago I developed arthritis in both knees. I had to have injections in both knees. I also underwent physical therapy to strengthen my knees. I noticed the other day that pain presented itself, again. I remembered the exercises that helped me and put them into my exercise program. It is nice that the pain is now gone. Wed, 10 Sep 2014 19:19:23 EST There Is Always Something New When I say that there is always something new - I mean another ailment/problem. As a younger woman, I rarely had any health issues. Once I hit 49 the problems started and have not stopped. This may or not be as big of an issue as my heart disease, pre-diabetes, depression, lack of mobility in my right arm and so on....but this morning I woke up and the eyelashes on my right eye were not attached to the lid. 204 Instead they were below my lower lashes on my face. If I had thought a... Sun, 7 Sep 2014 14:30:45 EST It has been a rough week I have been keeping up with my exercise and eating low carb. The low carb is due to the physician's advice, as I have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I have heart disease and other health issues. I am definitely on a mission to avoid diabetes. I don't want to end up on other medication.
