LILISWEN's SparkPeople Blog LILISWEN's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Day 22, 23, 24, & 25- 30 Day Challenge Day 22 was the Super Bowl. When I got up I had every intention of getting my exercise done and out of the way, but that didn't happen. So, I waited until the last guest left and got in a classic 2 mile walk about 8:30pm. It would have been real easy to blow it off, but I really want to finish this challenge strong.

Day 23 was a totally different story. It was the complete 5 Mega Mile walk. The problem is that I don't have the time to do the complete routine in the morning before w... Wed, 5 Feb 2014 10:07:35 EST Day 18,19,20, &21- 30 Day Challenge
Wednesday brought back the 2 mile power express walk and Thursday was miles 1-3 from the 5 Mega Miles. Both days went really well and I've also added in some elliptical time as well. Friday was a rest day and I was glad. It had been a hard week at school, so it was nice to not have to be so structured. Today I did the entire 30 minute Burn and 30 minute Firm dvd. I was pretty tired by the time I finished. We went to the... Sun, 2 Feb 2014 02:35:03 EST Days 14, 15, 16, & 17- 30 Day Challenge I'm having to post for the last 4 days today because I was visiting my mom and didn't have access to the internet. Mom just won't give in to technology. 246

Saturday I flew down to Southern California and it was a rest day, so no workout for me. That was a good thing, because Sunday was the 5 Mega MIle workout. I had done all of the miles before, just not together. One thing I didn't think about before I started was that my mom lives at about 3000 elevation, I live at ... Tue, 28 Jan 2014 10:47:02 EST Days 11,12, & 13- 30 Day Challenge Wow! I can't believe I haven't posted for 3 days. This was finals week at the high school I teach at and I've been pretty exhausted in the evening. When I last posted I was a day behind schedule. Day 11 was a repeat of miles 3-5 from the 5 Mile Mega walk, but on day 12, yesterday, the workout was to get outside and walk, so my husband and I took our dog Toby and walked the neighborhood for about 30 minutes. It was nice to get outside and spend time with my hubby.

Today, day 13, I ... Fri, 24 Jan 2014 23:15:29 EST Day 9&10 - 30 Day Challenge I had to shift things around. Yesterday I had to have an MRI and because I am claustrophoic, I have to take Valum to be able to not freak out inside the machine. Well, needless to say, I was asleep by 7:30 last night and did not get my workout in.

So, this morning I did the workout that was scheduled for yesterday, which was the 30 minute Burn. The first time I did this, I did it without weights, but today I used my 2lb weights and I really could feel a difference. That's what's re... Tue, 21 Jan 2014 23:04:23 EST Day 8-30 Day Challenge So, I was going to skip today's workout and shift everything by one day, but that was before I hosted a party for the NFC Championship game. Although, the food that everyone brought was pretty healthy, I ate a little more than I should have and I was pretty bummed when my boys didn't win the game. I just felt that getting in a workout would be healthy for me in more ways than one.

Today's workout was from the 5 Mega Mile dvd. It was miles 1-3. Mile 1 is a classic power walk, follow... Mon, 20 Jan 2014 00:46:34 EST Day 7 - 30 Day Challenge So today was supposed to be a rest day, but I ended up doing a 5k race this morning and beat t.he goal I had set for myself. I wanted to finish in 40 minutes or less and I actually finished in 36+ mins. My mile pace time was 11:16. It was such a great feeling to finish.

Since I didn't rest today, I will rest tomorrow and adjust my workout schedule on the 30 day challenge. I'll keep you informed of what I'm doing. I'm definitely feeling some soreness, so, it's off to the hot tub to ... Sat, 18 Jan 2014 22:18:31 EST Day 5 & 6- 30 Day Challenge So I woke up this morning and I realized that I forgot to blog yesterday. In regards to the workouts, day 5 was the same as day 3, so really there wasn't much to tell other than I did get that 2 mile classic walk in and I also did my elliptical and my kettlebell workout yesterday. This is a good thing, since I had a little incident with some homemade frosting and whip cream. I really need to stop baking. But enough confessional, let's talk about today's workout.

Today was from the ... Fri, 17 Jan 2014 09:43:35 EST Day 4-30 Day Challenge Wow! Today's workout was more intense than the other days. It was comprised of miles 3-5 on the Mega 5 Mile dvd. It incorporated a fast paced power boosted mile, then a fast paced mile with firming using a band and the final mile used moves to engage the core muscles. The whole routine took about 50 minutes and I really felt a burn when I was done. It was kinda nice getting to see what was part of the 5 mile workout, because coming up there is a day when I have to do all five miles.
<BR... Thu, 16 Jan 2014 01:28:07 EST Day 3-30 Day Challenge So today's workout was off of the 4 mile Power walk dvd. It was a 2 mile walk that was mile 1 and mile 4. Pretty fast paced, with lots of arm movements. Looking ahead, I will be doing this routine again on Thursday. Tomorrow will be the big day with a 3 mile walk.
All of this should be good for preparing me for Saturday's 5k.

I really feel like I've got my exercise on track, but I'm still struggling a little with my food. The hardest part of my day is the evening. I find myse... Wed, 15 Jan 2014 00:08:51 EST Day 2-30 Day Challenge So I have decided to change up my routine and make sure that I do my challenge in the morning before work. This way I won't have any excuses later in the day.

This morning I did the Firm 30 Workout. It has a small amount of walking in it, but for the most part it is a true firming routine. I decided to start out with 5lb weights. I don't want to over do it this week, especially since I am doing a 5k on Saturday.

Usually I can hardly wait for a workout dvd to be over, but... Tue, 14 Jan 2014 00:18:11 EST 30 Day Walk Challenge Sometimes you have to shake things up a little. I am an avid exerciser, but I tend to get in a rut every now and then. I was at Costco yesterday and came across Leslie Sansone's Just Walk 30 Day Walk Off.

It has 3 dvds, an exercise band and a meal plan. I have plenty of bands and my meal plan is pretty solid, but I felt like I needed something new to shock my body into high gear. I've done her dvds before and they'... Sun, 12 Jan 2014 23:33:38 EST What makes a workout good? How do you know that your workout is good? What are the indicators that you use to measure if it's good or not?

For me, I know my workout is good if I complete the entire routine. If I'm doing cardio, I know it's good if I sweat. If my mood improves, that usually makes it a great workout and if I really liked what I did and want to do it again, that definitely makes it a good workout. Sat, 11 Jan 2014 23:13:58 EST Gratitude Today I am grateful for my family and griends because they provide me with tremendous support which helps me achieve my goals. Fri, 10 Jan 2014 16:56:53 EST How I'm feeling in 5 words. During my SparkCoach session today, it was recommended that I blog about how I am feeling in 5 words. This was easier said than done, but I was able to come up with the following:

Forty-seven, feeling fit and fabulous.

How do you feel in 5? Mon, 6 Jan 2014 15:18:11 EST My Goals for 2014 I choose not to make New Year's resolutions, but rather set small, obtainable goals throughout the year. One of my goals this year is to actually print out the house cleaning check list that I found on Pinterest and start following it this year. I also bought a new exercise dvd and want to incorporate it into my routine at least once a week (I did it today and it was pretty fun!) Some of my goals are big projects that my husband and I want to accomplish around our house. The biggest one this... Sun, 5 Jan 2014 18:38:41 EST It's OK to Maintain! Over the years I have heard varying statistics regarding the average weight gain from Thanksgiving to New Year's. For adults that are already overweight, that number is about 5 lbs, but in general the average is about 1lb. Regardless which number may apply, none of us want to gain anything!

My goal this season is to maintain my weight under 150lbs. I don't care if the scale says 149.9, I just don't want to srr a 5 after the 1. Since I am currently at 148.2, that doesn't give me a w... Mon, 23 Dec 2013 08:55:05 EST 6 Months hard work is paying off!!!

I have really been working hard these last 6 months and I am thrilled with the results so far. Not only has my scale gone down about 22 pounds, but I have lost over 6% body fat and about 20 inches overall.

What used to be what I would call a smile and a double chin on my back is now just a tiny smirk of satisfaction.

At 47, I am feeling better than I ever have and am excited for what the futu... Sun, 17 Nov 2013 18:37:59 EST My most Inspirational Quote On spark coach today the community task was to post our favorite inspirational quote. My absolute favorite quote would be from the Bible in 1Corinthians 10:23, which states, "Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial." I actually have this tattooed on my right wrist and every time I reach for something, I am reminded of this & it helps me to make better choices. Mon, 11 Nov 2013 21:56:02 EST Your workout shouldn't feel like work!
REading through my SparkCoach session today was one of those moments where you say to yourself "Wow! I can't believe this is the topic today!".

Yesterday my husband and I bought two new kayaks. we have been wanting to find ways to spend more time together while getting exercise and being healthy. Going to a gym has always felt like a burden to my husband. So you can imagine how I must have felt as I read abou... Mon, 7 Oct 2013 00:37:17 EST Feeling Fabulous in my Forties!!! The year I turned 40 could be considered a tragic year. It started in January when my best friends husband died of cancer. Six months later, I was diagnosed with Cervical cancer and as if that wasn't bad enough, 15 days later, my amazing mother-in-law was killed in a small plane crash. So the forties didn't start out the way I would have planned them.

Having cancer really changed things for me. Suddenly, the body I had known my whole life was different. It didn't respond to exercis... Sun, 22 Sep 2013 12:45:03 EST Accountability Partner-Get One! Recently I was challenged to bring accountability into my weight loss journey. Being willing to ask someone to hold me accountable for the choices I make in this process is not an easy thing for me to do. I'm the kind of person that is always willing to help others, but I find it very difficult to ask for help for myself.

For some of us, accountability is getting on the scale in a meeting room each week, but many are doing this online only. What I've learned is that if you think yo... Tue, 6 Aug 2013 01:42:11 EST How my motivation has changed over the years For many, many years, my sole motivation for losing weight was to look good. Very superficial, but that was how I felt. When we are young, we think we are invincible and that nothing bad will ever happen to us, but in 1997, I crushed my knee cap while waterskiing and found myself not able to work out. I also was left with pain and some limitations in my left knee. Suddenly, being healthy was a lot more important than just looking good, although I still wanted to look good.

In 2006... Thu, 1 Aug 2013 11:42:39 EST I'm back and what I've been up to. Thu, 25 Jul 2013 02:04:51 EST I have to Eat My Words...Thank Goodness they have no Calories!!! I have been a loyal member of Weight Watchers for over 25 years. I have always loved the flexibility and realness of the program. My parents did Jenny Craig and although it worked for them, I made the comment that I would never go on a program like that.

Well, here I am, 46 years old, busier than I've ever been and watching my scale creep higher and higher. I don't know if it's my age, my health, my lifestyle, or some other excuse I could come up with, but whatever the reason, what... Just needed to vent! Sat, 23 Feb 2013 14:51:24 EST Why can't they eat like me? If I only had to cook for myself, life would be so much easier. But the fact is, there are other people living in my home besides me that depend on me for their daily meals, especially dinner.

Most of the time I try to incorporate healthy foods because of course I don't want my children to end up where I once was, but sometimes they request certain dishes that don't always fit into my daily plan. I have learned over the years to modify certain recipes, but there are still a few fav... Tue, 19 Feb 2013 19:20:42 EST Enough with the Fries Already!!! I realize the fast food industry has oversized themselves, but has anyone else noticed that the oversized portions of food have made their way into finer dining establishments?

My husband and I went out to dinner one night and I ordered a portobella mushroom sandwich that came with fries. When my plate arrived, I couldn't believe the amount. Half of the plate was filled with french fries! Seriously, what were they... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 20:20:21 EST Red Light Foods!!! Years ago at a WW meeting, I heard about "Red Light Foods" for the first time. The leader talked about how she couldn't have peanut butter in her house for a very long time, because she just couldn't stop with a spoonful or two. Instead, she would start eating it right out of the jar and before she knew it, half the jar would be gone.

There are three things that I would count as "Red Light Foods". The first would have to be pizza. Most serving sizes are listed as 1 slice. I don't k... Sun, 17 Feb 2013 16:58:13 EST
