I am back on now because our Derby Team is doing a month long weight loss challenge and I aim to win it! I know I can do it, I just have to put my mind to it!

And speaking of derby. . . I am now the Full Time Coach for our League! What qualifies me to Coach Roller Derby you say? Well, nothing actually! Lol. I have no previous experience coaching. Thu, 18 Apr 2013 16:33:12 EST Partially Torn PCL Blues http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5251507 So, the MRI results FINALLY came in last week and I have a partial tear in the PCL of my right knee. The last few weeks have been very depressing. I haven't been able to do much of anything because I can't get in to see the specialist until my insurance referral is cleared and they are taking their sweet time with it. Also, they accidentally sent my physiotherapy referral to a location in Walnut Creek which is about 12 hours north of me. Yes I live in the middle of nowhere, but no way am I dr... Fri, 15 Feb 2013 11:16:48 EST What's the haps? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5209879 So, a quick recap of the last 4 months:

Sept of 2012-At my lowest weight, I reached 145. Just 15 pounds over my goal. I sort of fell off the wagon at that point with regular exercise and tracking. By October I was in full blown retreat mode. Then came the holidays with all their stress and yummy food and like all typical yo-yo dieters I packed back on the pounds. Its totally lame, but I was jokingly using the pending 12/21/12 apocalypse BS as an excuse to eat lots of oreos and chee... Wed, 16 Jan 2013 11:02:09 EST Feeling like I lost my way a little. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5064826 Hi out there, its me. . .
I know, it's been a long time. I think I gave up a little when I saw my goal date approaching and my numbers were far above what they needed to be. I quit Sparking all together. Haven't done any hooping, cardio, weights or much of anything productive at all. I am still doing derby, but that is one night a week for 2 hours and doesn't make up for all the lost activity. The good news is, derby has really taken off in the last few months so that is exciting. We ar... Tue, 18 Sep 2012 11:54:48 EST Derby, you tricky little devil you. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4996609 So for those of you just tuning in, here is a brief re-cap:
About a year ago I strapped on Quad Skates for the first time and joined a budding roller derby team. It was awesome fun and a great workout. Very empowering. There were lots of issues though. Nowhere to practice, people kept dropping out, personality clashes, drama drama drama. About 2-3 months ago things fell apart pretty badly. I decided to wash my hands of it. There were only 4 people left at that time.

The three... Thu, 26 Jul 2012 18:01:58 EST For clarification, but not to beat a dead horse, on the negativity thing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4979256 So I feel like my last blog came off a little imperious at the end and I wanted to clarify. I was having a hard time putting into words what I wanted to get across. Thankfully, a few of my SparkFriends hit the nail on the head and said it right.

SNOWANGELDIVA said-I love having a place to dump my emotional crap and have people come along and 'hoorah' me out of a funk or defeat. If I have a friend that seems to revel in the poison of negativity and isn't trying to shake it and seem... Fri, 20 Jul 2012 12:53:19 EST Still kicking http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4976483 Hello out there in SparkLand! I have been absent as of late. Lots of things going on I guess. Family issues and Summer Vacation, a little bad, a little good. I guess its what helps keep you balanced right? lol

Anyway, the hubby, the kiddo and I just got home from a 10 day road trip back to my place of birth. The beautiful State of Utah! We had a great time. I really enjoyed sharing some old memories with my family and creating some new ones. We drove up from Southern California, th... Wed, 18 Jul 2012 16:41:13 EST Getting it together http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4907278 Hello Spark World. I hope you are all doing well. The following blog is a very personal account of a painful part of my childhood.

We've been doing some major home overhauling around here this week. I discovered, with the help of a friend, an amazing website called theflylady.net. Its a great program that helps people who are disorganized, clutter addicts get their lives in order. I have only just started with the program, but its honestly like Spark People for your home.
<... Fri, 1 Jun 2012 11:19:22 EST Negative=Positive, in the right frame of mind. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4894788 So I am discovering that I am really struggling to behave on the weekends. The issue is exacerbated by the fact that we are usually away from home on the weekends and for us, away from home means at least an hours drive to the nearest civilization. I am always really good about packing healthy snacks for my daughter. She gets almonds, granola bars or trail mix, sliced apples, cheese sticks, turkey or chicken and crackers. But I never pack snacks for the hubs and I. So inevitably, we eat crap.... Wed, 23 May 2012 14:59:44 EST A few NSV's http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4882611 Hi Everyone! I hope you are having a great week! I am definitely having a much better one than last week. I sort of feel like a lizard who has finally shed its skin! Aside from the occasional bad feeling about derby which comes when I see a post of facebook or run into one of the girls, I am moving on and feeling really okay with it.

So! On to a few NSV's and as my friend JAYDEE16 likes to call it: "The Gloaty Pants Report".

Gloat #1-
Losing 1.5 inches of the waist... Tue, 15 May 2012 13:01:37 EST Yummy lunch! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4877327 Just a quick blog to give out a little lunch time inspiration.

Today I took a medium baked potato, topped it with .5oz of finely shredded cheddar cheese, .25cup of reduced sodium black beans, 1 Tbsp lite sour cream, a pinch of chili powder, cumin and black pepper. It was really tasty, quick and easy and it was 294 calories, 48 carbs, 6gm fat and 12gm protein. And very filling.

Earlier in the week I did a baked potato topped with low-fat cottage cheese and steamed brocc... So while I am sorry that this is a negative post, I feel like its really important for me to talk about it. I am not trying in anyway to bring anyone else down. I just have an unusual set of circumstances that keeps me rather isolated from the world and I don't have a lot of outlets. Please feel free to click the X if you don't want to read a waaa waaa blog. Thu, 10 May 2012 12:15:27 EST A really long blog about my ongoing Derby Drama... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4868104 First off, I apologize for this being a long blog. I just have a bit to get off of my chest.

So last night the local press was supposed to come out and interview our derby team to get the word out here on our little Army Post. Originally we all thought they were going to write a newspaper article about us, but it turns out there is actually a cable tv channel here that NO ONE knew about. So the person who came out brought a video camera. Only 4 of us showed up ready to skate but 7... Sat, 5 May 2012 20:05:38 EST Smashing my "Cell Phone" http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4866650 What is a girl to do if she is over her calorie goal by lunch and is still hungry for dinner!?! Yesterday, that was my life. Totally my fault though. Hubby has a four day this weekend so we took advantage of the unusual mid-week day off to drive 2.5 hours to the nearest farmers market. On the way there, hubby decided he wanted breakfast, which always means McDonalds when we are on the road. I tried my best to be good, but ate a sausage McMuffin with egg and a portion of my daughters fruit and... Fri, 4 May 2012 16:53:56 EST Monday Challenge, Derby Update and Random Hoopness http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4859780 Response to BOGUSANNIE's Monday Challenge. Some hope for Roller Derby. Random hoopyness and a bit of rambling. :) Mon, 30 Apr 2012 17:57:03 EST 3 Positives! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4855142 My Friend BOGUSANNIE posted a challenge to Sparkers to come up with 3 positives about themselves. She was noticing a trend of Debbie Downer Blog posts and wanted to invite others to change that! So here is my video response.
Happy Friday! Where does the time go? I was a going back and forth in my head about whether or not I should share this. But I decided to go ahead. Please do not share this video outside of SparkPeople, for if you do, a handbasket of hellishly bad karma will be unleashed. Just kidding. I have no say over Karma. But seriously, Creepers-Beware!

Anywho! I was hooping yesterday and Bug decided to come in and join me. I was so glad I had the Flip cam rolling. Its ... Fri, 27 Apr 2012 11:00:09 EST Finally got a few more tricks up my sleeve! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4852217 Okay folks, here it is! I have been hooping for about 1-2 hours a day for the last 7 days. I am so totally hooked! I havent done any other exercises except swimming one day. I have figured out how to do about 7 or 8 different tricks now. I tried to showcase all of them in this little vid. Hope you enjoy! Thanks for watching! Wed, 25 Apr 2012 19:33:26 EST Derby Dissolved http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4846480 Well folks, I am sad to announce that our little derby team has had to dissolve. Due to many factors, i.e. lack of support from the community, lack of attendance and fresh meat, lack of a steady place to practice, etc. The biggest contributing factor to our dissolution is that this is the Army and everything is in a constant state of flux. We've had 3 players leave the team because they are leaving this Army Post or leaving the Army all together. 2 of them are pregnant. 2 of them are injured.... Sun, 22 Apr 2012 12:07:11 EST 3 little birds http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4842543 I wanted to post a blog entry that reflected to much better mood I have been in the rest of this week. I kept seeing my Debbie Downer blog at the top of the list and it was harshing my jive, lol.

So, the song 3 little birds, although I am not a reggae fan, always gets me in a happy mood! It reminds me of my very dear friend, Tina. She was my doula when I was pregnant with my daughter. She was and is a constant inspiration to me. This is a person who rarely ever had a negative thou... Thu, 19 Apr 2012 12:16:09 EST Weigh-in denial and a moody slump. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4839165 So heres the thing. When I started with Spark People I weighed 160. My goal is to get to 130 by September. Right off the bat, I lost 10 pounds sticking with the program. But now I am back up to 152.5 and its fluctuating between that and 154. :( I know exactly why too, but I am just getting discouraged by seeing how high above my goal line my progress line is on my little graph.

When I first started doing the program I made sure I was tracking every single morsel that passed my lip... Fri, 13 Apr 2012 19:56:44 EST My First Vlog http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4833706 This is a test of the lame-o broadcasting system. I really get nervous anytime there is a camera on, so I apologize in advance for the uncomfortable-ness of this little episode. I am testing out my webcam with the Idea that I will do a little hoop dance video, but after watching this myself, I don't know if I will have the courage to post said video. We shall see. Seriously! I decided I couldn't wait for my bruise to heal to start hooping again, so I hooped yesterday for 50 minutes! The photo I will show you of my new bruise my make you shudder. I think its pretty bada$$!

Anyway, here is how my weekly workout has gone so far:

Monday: Jillian's 30 day shred, Level 1.

Tuesday: Hoop for 50 minutes to Alternative Endurance station on Pandora. I seriously had to tell myself to stop... Wed, 11 Apr 2012 16:17:13 EST Hooping bruises and a visit to SeaWorld http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4825610 So, i have these lovely bruises all over my abdomen from my lovely new hoop. I am told that this is very common for new hooping enthusiasts, so I am not too worried about it. The big bummer is that it hurts so bad I can't hoop again until the bruises are gone. The last time I hooped was Wednesday and the bruises are already beginning to lighten so hopefully I can pick it up again soon. I was having so much fun hooping to music last week that I did it for 35 minutes straight! Then picked it up... Sun, 8 Apr 2012 12:31:44 EST Let's add Hooping to my list of AWESOME fun workouts! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4820172 Ladies and Gentlemen, the Hula Hoop has arrived! Months ago I added Hula Hooping to my list of Want to do this/Rewards. Last week, I went ahead and ordered a real hoop (as opposed to the toy kind you get at Walmart) from a seller on Etsy. Yesterday, the Mailman knocked on my door and handed it over with a perplexed look on his face (it was simply wrapped in bubble wrap, so you could tell what it was). I had been trying to hoop with a whamo toy hoop for weeks with no luck at all, so it was a b... Wed, 4 Apr 2012 11:34:13 EST Further Research on my Workout DVD Faceoff http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4809098 So, I am sorry to say that I think I may be retiring the Coach Nicole 28 day Bootcamp DVD. I gave it the old college try, but I am just not enjoying it. When I was in high school (a million years ago) I was on the dance team. I've also done Belly Dancing over the years, so I consider myself to be fairly coordinated and capable when it comes to dance moves....so why can I not seem to get the damn grapevine-to-mambo move Coach Nicole seems to love so much? I do not know. My ineptitude aside, I ... Wed, 28 Mar 2012 13:47:58 EST DVD Comparison: SP 28 Day Boot vs Jillian's 30 day Shred http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4803992 Holy Muscle Pain Batman!

Okay, so here's the skinny. I did 2 days of the SP DVD and then had a "rest" day, where I decided to give the Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred DVD a try. I did the level one routine which is 28 minutes with warm up/cool down. It was unbelievably exerting. I say "exerting" because although it was very challenging, I wouldn't say that it was difficult. This routine can be done in a very small space with only a mat and a pair of dumbbells. There were no complica... Sun, 25 Mar 2012 13:11:43 EST 28 Day Bootcamp DVD, Day 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4801191 Yesterday I did day 2 of Coach Nicole's DVD. They did in fact, add some strength training. Like day one, the workout starts with a 6 minute warm up, then the new twist was the cardio+strength workout. It is still fairly low intensity, which is good I think to keep beginners from giving up. I found myself getting a little bit bored with it. Today I am feeling a little sore in my legs from all the squats and lunges and a bit sore through the shoulders and back.

I will continue to do... Fri, 23 Mar 2012 10:47:14 EST 28 Day Bootcamp DVD, Day1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4799817 So I bought the DVD. I have a hard time getting in a good home workout with DVD's because my daughter always wants to join in, making it fun but difficult to use the space properly. Fortunately, we played so hard at the park yesterday that she ended up taking a 45 minute nap. Perfect time for me to fit in a workout.

I like the DVD. It is set up so you can follow the scheduled plan, or work at your own pace. I am going to stick to the plan as best I can. Yesterday's work out was a ... Thu, 22 Mar 2012 12:58:03 EST Garden Therapy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4787820 We live in a hot, arid desert. Our back yard is approximately 18 sq feet. It gets blasted by the sun for 12 hours nearly every day. Perfect place for a garden, right? Well, lets hope so. The hubby and I have spent the last 3 days and probably $200 planting a lovely container garden on the patio. The temp has been an average of 72 deg lately but still a little cold at night. We will be bringing our little garden in at night for a few more weeks.

We planted tomatoes, carrots, zucchin... Wed, 14 Mar 2012 18:31:37 EST A lovely weekend and measurement day delays. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4783808 Happy Monday everyone! I had a great weekend that started off with an awesome Derby workout on Friday. I have been struggling with some of my basic skills because we don't get very much practice time, but Friday I really felt like I had a breakthrough! Anyway, it was a lot of fun and I can't wait to skate again.

Saturday I made a really adorable pair of booties for a Birthday girl and that afternoon I took my daughter to her the girls Birthday party. It was a beautiful day, if a b... Mon, 12 Mar 2012 13:37:44 EST A back handed compliment. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4772362 So I am going to post about this and then I will really try hard not to post negative nancy stuff in my blog for a while.

About a month after I started doing derby this new gal joined the team. She and I did not get along. I am not sure what it was specifically that started it off. Maybe it was just that way from the start. She had no more experience than I did when it came to skating, but she would act like the sun rose out of her a$$.

One day we were working on a new... Mon, 5 Mar 2012 17:56:32 EST Struggling. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4768694 I have completely fallen off the wagon. I am not sure at what point it happened, but it happened. I haven't tracked my food for about 2 weeks now and the only exercise I am getting is my one night a week of derby practice. Miraculously, I haven't gained any of the weight back yet. But I know I am sitting on a ticking time bomb if I don't get my ass in gear.

I have been really stressed out lately. My business that I started almost 3 years ago has been growing stale and tedious for ... Sat, 3 Mar 2012 14:09:57 EST Summer Clothes! and Feeling the "Burn" http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4757331 A few months ago I went through my closets and drawer and bagged up a bunch of clothes that were too small to take to the thrift store. Somehow, they never made it out of the house. Its been really hot here lately and I was desperately hoping to find some warm weather clothes that fit. On a whim, I opened up the bag and pulled out all the shorts and capris that had been deemed too small and low and behold, They.All.Fit! Woo Hoo! I've gone from a 16 back down to a 12! I am pretty psyched abou... Sun, 26 Feb 2012 00:47:30 EST Lovely weather and anticipation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4755240 It has been absolutely gorgeous here this week. Temps in the high 70's, little wind, beautiful sunsets! I have never had a winter like this. I am definitely loving winter in the desert! I am itching to plant flowers on the back patio!

The kiddo and I made a bird feeder out of cheerios and pipe cleaners yesterday. It was so cute, my daughter was standing on the patio, holding the leftover bowl of cheerios, calling "Here Birdies! Come and get it!" She was pretty disappointed that the... Fri, 24 Feb 2012 14:45:41 EST Not much to report. :/ http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4749517 I weigh in on Tuesday's every week and today I am the same as last week. No big deal. I know why. I haven't been to the gym or done ANY cardio (aside from derby torture...I mean practice, on Friday) for a few weeks. It's been hard to coordinate schedules with my hubby. He is required to go to the gym twice a day (damn Army) in the am and pm. So I really don't get a chance between house work, child care, my home business and cooking to squeeze in a trip to the gym. I do however, have time to s... Tue, 21 Feb 2012 12:37:22 EST Operation Petticoat http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4742745 I am soooooooooooooo excited! There is an organization called Operation Petticoat that offers free Photo Shoots including hair, makeup and wardrobe to Active Duty Military Spouses. They only do 4 events a year in Burbank California with 10 available slots and......... I GOT A SLOT!!!! The shoot is next Sunday and I can't wait! 3 of the other gals from my derby team got slots as well so we are going to go together and make a day of it. I will post pics as soon as I get them back. Since starting with Spark People on January 11, 2012 I have lost 9lbs. I've lost 1" around my waist, 1.5" from my hips, 2" from each thigh, 3/4" from each arm and 1/2" from my neck! My bust and calves have stayed the same (YES!) I was surprised that I hadn't lost more from my waist because my favorite capris are way too big around the waist. Not sure what's going on there. But whatever the case is, I am happy with my progress. Especially becau... Sat, 11 Feb 2012 11:41:25 EST Sugar Ant Hell (warning, its a long story, but its funny) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4732369 This week has been a bit of a downer, with my daughter and I being sick. We've been taking it easy at home trying to recover. So I was not expecting to have 1) The Shock of a lifetime and 2) Burn 600 calories heavy cleaning my entire house.

So here's what happened. My kiddo tells me she wants a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (she calls it a Sam-ootch, its so stinkin cute). So I get out the bread and I cut the crusts off, just the way she likes it. I get the Jelly from the fridge.... My daughter finally has the cough now as well. I took her to the doc today to make sure it was just a cough. They say its an upper respiratory infection. My sickness has been downgraded to Bronchitis. They gave me some uber antibiotics to hopefully kick it for good.

Unfortunately, I feel like I am going to have to start all over on my fitness track. I haven't been measuring my meals. Wed, 8 Feb 2012 21:36:20 EST A day at the Zoo and a Sunset on the Ocean http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4725185 On Saturday my family and I met up with some friends at the San Diego Zoo. We had an awesome day hiking all around the zoo, checking out the animals. My daughter, who is coming up on 3 years old, LOVES animals! She knows the difference between a leopard, a cheetah, a lion and a jaguar. She could probably go to the zoo every day and be perfectly happy. We used the trackers on our phones to find out how far we went for the day and it ended up being 6 miles! And its mostly up and down major hill... Mon, 6 Feb 2012 12:22:07 EST Go in healthy, come out sick. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4718507 Yesterday, I had to take my daughter to the doctor to get a referral for a dermatologist. She was born with a cute birthmark that looked like a little fairy had put its foot on her thigh to help push her into the world. It literally looked like a perfect footprint. Over the next few months after her birth it got darker. We consulted with our pediatrician and were told to keep an eye on it, but he wasn't worried about it. By the time she was one it had doubled in size, darkened considerably an... Thu, 2 Feb 2012 11:59:58 EST Weigh in day and a debt of gratitude http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4714368 So I am down 9 lbs since I started with SparkPeople 20 days ago. I am pretty excited about that. When I was pregnant with my daughter I gained about 45lbs. Yikes! I was gigantic! People constantly asked me if I was having multiples. If there is one thing that everyone should have learned in school its that you NEVER EVER EVER ask a pregnant women if she is having multiples! She will offer that information if she deems you worthy! And when you forget your couth and ask anyway DO NOT I repeat D... Tue, 31 Jan 2012 12:55:01 EST Derby Practice update and other meanderings http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4712340 So the saying goes "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." I guess our derby team was vocal enough to get someone to listen. We were given access to half of a basketball court to skate on for Friday nights from 6-8. Its better than nothing, so we'll take what we can get. I missed the first practice on Friday due to a bad headache and lack of motivation. Coming back home (up a really steep hill) I was pushing the jogger against the wind and it created great resistance. I could definitely feel the burn!

Back home (either Utah or Idaho) there would be at least 3 feet of snow on the ground. A walk outside would yield red ears and frozen boogers (thats right, I said frozen booge... Our team has been facing walls and hurdles at every turn lately. We recently had our time slots at the Post Rink taken away from us due to clerical error (read: personal vendetta). We haven't had much support from the body that controls the facility we were using.

Since no one I know personally reads this blog, I feel I can be honest here and say that we were actually told that our ... Went to the gym with a few of my Derby girls again last night and SWEAT? Yeah, I did! Holy cow! I am pretty sure I lost a pound of water at least. We did weight machines for 45 minutes, elliptical for 25+5 cool down and sat in the sauna for 10 minutes.

When I was in high school I hated physical activity, well the kind that was forced on us in P.E. anyways. I hated running, sit-ups, pull-ups, volleyball or any sport for that matter. I was an avid rea... Wed, 25 Jan 2012 12:11:13 EST
