Tue, 19 Feb 2013 01:32:42 EST Absent http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5168694 I have been absent for some time but that's going to change. In my absence, I have continued to run and did my first 10K at Thanksgiving. I finished it in just over a hour and I was so proud of myself. I was motivated to keep moving but due to the weather and time change, I don't really have any daylight hours when I don't have the kids to run. It's been frustrating. Because of it, I haven't run since the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I haven't hit the gym either :(

I am disappo... Mon, 17 Dec 2012 01:42:46 EST It wasn't muddy but it felt like it. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5110652 I couidn't get moving during todays run... I felt like I was stuck in mud the whole way. I was running 7 minutes followed by 3 minutes walking. It took me 34:43 minutes just to make it through 2.83 miles. That was a horrible time, I hope Thursday's run goes better. Wed, 24 Oct 2012 00:11:02 EST Interval bump http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5107261 I've missed a couple of entries so this seems weird but I bumped my interval times today. I ran 7 minutes and walked 3 minutes alternating for 6.72 miles in 1 hour 21 minutes and some seconds. This was A and I's second Sunday morning run and it turned out great! She's pushing my distance and I am pushing her pace (when I run). She's trying to get me to sign up for a 10K at Thanksgiving and I am thinking about it if we'll be in town. Sun, 21 Oct 2012 16:22:04 EST Almost there... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5092107 So we are almost there... as in about to put a deposit on a new construction. It's been a stressful decision that has caused me to overeat, under-eat and generally just be in a really foul mood. But as of today, the contractors sales director is doing a special release of the two houses we are most interested in JUST FOR US! I think they are doing this because they are so afraid of losing us as buyers; all this flip flopping has made us seriously consider another new construction developme... Tue, 9 Oct 2012 00:21:23 EST Mental Strength http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5090730 Being mentally strong is a key part of any training/ weight loss plan. Unfortunately I am not too positive today. I haven't found anyone to do the Warrior Dash with me yet, and while I know I can do it by myself... I am craving some adult companionship. It appears that I missed yet another sign up date for it so now what was $60 is $70 and if I spend the money, I will never hear of it from my husband. So, I guess it's out all together.

The stress of buying a house is really g... Mon, 8 Oct 2012 01:27:46 EST Running Club http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5089473 I joined my local running club today for their Saturday Morning Run. Everyone was really nice. The Welcome person ran with me for the first 1/2 mile (until I needed to walk) and then I let her go on. Another member who stopped off to use the port-o-john caught up with me and ran with me for my next 5 minute (1/2 mile) run. I am still doing 5 minutes running followed by 2 minutes walking. Running with these members pushed my pace to the breaking point so the last two intervals were pretty... Sat, 6 Oct 2012 22:44:29 EST Buddy Run http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5087348 I got a text today from my race buddy, A. It said, "get off your butt and lets go running!" No, not really but it should have. She just asked if I wanted to get a run in today and I was totally on board because despite setting my alarm clock, I didn't make it out of bed for my 6:30 AM run. We ran into the dark but did great.

This was my second day of run 5 min/ walk 2 min. and it was not that bad. I must say, I am feeling really good about todays run. I found talking while ... Fri, 5 Oct 2012 01:52:49 EST New Moon http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5083995 I ran under a new moon today... it was a morning moon not a night moon. I am NOT a morning person but managed to get my butt out of bed at 6:30 AM this morning for a run. AND I had a good run. I was able to run 5 minutes followed by 2 minutes walking for 4 cycles. I am so proud of myself!!!

I have a little soreness in my calves that will need some ice and stretching but otherwise I am doing good. Hopefully I can manage it again on Thursday. Tue, 2 Oct 2012 15:32:23 EST Run for the Stinkin' Roses 5K http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5081112 I completed my 2nd 5K today at the Run for the Stinkin' Roses. For those who don't know, Gilroy (the town this race was in) is the largest grower of Garlic aka stinking roses hence the name. Surprisingly enough, it didn't smell like Garlic at all today and it normally reeks.

I started out the race pretty good and probably a little too fast. I slowed down at about the 1/5 mile mark and really paid attention to my pace. Got adjusted and kept moving. Took a small 30 second walk ... Sun, 30 Sep 2012 20:17:05 EST Moving Forward: 5K training http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5077870 With my second 5K coming up this weekend, I am looking forward to my intermediate goal of a 10K. I haven't finished my 5K training per the Women's Health magazine article that I am following. But I am comfortable with my progress and think as I move forward to the next step in my training, I will be pushing the distance toward that 10K mark.

My current intervals of 3 min running/ 3 min walking is putting me at 2.9 miles. Fri, 28 Sep 2012 00:54:54 EST Run for the Stinking Roses-5K http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5076591 So I sucked it up and registered for this Sunday's Run for the Stinking Roses. I will be doing the 5K distance as I am clearly not ready for the 10K distance. I am feeling good about my decision. I am slightly concerned that I will be disappointed in myself if I don't better my time from my last 5K, the MH Freedom Run. But if I don't do it then I won't know.

I am very motivated to continue with my training. I spoke with my friend in Seattle who inspired me to start running again... Wed, 26 Sep 2012 02:03:48 EST Soccer Mom 1.0 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5044938 We missed gym tonight for Tball Coaches Meeting. My 3 year old will be playing in a 2-3 year old group. It's not really PLAYING TBALL as much as it is learning tball skills such as throwing, hitting, running the bases and so on. We never actually play another team. Just do skills practice. I know my husband is a bit disappointed but considering my kid is the most unathletic kid around, he could use it. Wed, 5 Sep 2012 01:20:10 EST 5K training and B2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5041889 Went for a jog yesterday and didn't make it past the first two intervals before my lower calf on the left started hurting again. It was a different part of my calf but I am so scared to have a long term injury right now that I stopped and walked home. I think I over did it when running with A the other day. She didn't want to run with me yesterday and that's probably good for me because I would have felt bad about cutting my run early. She wanted to go today but I don't run 2 days in a ro... I've called a couple of times to run with her and no response. I finally caught her today and she agreed to go running after work. I forewarned her that I was doing intervals of walk/run for 3 minutes. When we met up, she tells me she runs 3 miles without stop or resting. I actually surprised myself. I was able to run 3 minute intervals without too much trouble. I wasn't expecting that since I haven't run in 3 (?) weeks. I didn't feel any pain in my leg or calf so I am happy.

Today's numbers are below.

Time: 35:36
Distance: 2.72 miles
Calories: 214

Planning to start yoga again tomorrow. I found out that everything the previous guy showed me on the Smith Machine was SO wrong. No wonder I have bruises on my neck and a sore chest. So first off, I was holding the bar on my neck not along the top of my lats (ie. bruise) and my stance was too far back causing my grip to be too close (hence the sore chest). Once we got the kinks out of my Smith Machine Squat, he showed me how to do the Romanian Deadlifts using the Smith ... Instead, I decided to (finally) start a program I found in a book that I can't seem to put down. It is called, "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" by Lou Schuler. Unfortunately, my HRM was dead so I don't have any heart rate stats for today but I will follow up with that during the next workout.

So today's workout was Phase 1, Workout A (workout 1) . So now it's time to try it out. I will be running my first interval set (2/3) tomorrow. That's slower/ less than the interval set that I did on my last run and hopefully I haven't lost all the ground I've been making since starting my training. I am nervous that I haven't healed yet or that I will reinjure myself but I need to just suck it up and get it over with.

Fin... Sat, 18 Aug 2012 20:05:52 EST My Injury :( http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5006040 I can safely say that I have injured my left leg. After the Virtual 5K last week, I had some pain on my lower left leg (calf/shin area). I iced it and played the "watch it" card. Within about 24 hours, a bruise appeared from the lower front of the shin wrapping around to the inside of my knee. It lines up perfectly with the pain I am having. I decided to take off a week and see what happens. After icing every night and being pretty much totally inactive (for me), the pain is still there... Tue, 7 Aug 2012 01:40:53 EST SparkPeople Virtual 5K http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4997377 I took a training break today to do my SparkPeople Virtual 5K. I did pretty well but was only faster from my last actual 5K time by seconds. That's okay because a lot of factors can influence my run time. I expect that running a real race with other racers motivates me to go faster and longer.
