LABGIRL8's SparkPeople Blog LABGIRL8's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community New goal Today is 7 weeks post-op from my knee replacement.

I had PT at the hospital. They rolled me there in a lounge chair and rolled me back most days. I walked to part way to PT and back a couple of days. One day I walked all the way back to my room from the PT gym.

After 4 days in the hospital, I was discharged to a rehab hospital/nursing home for 2 weeks. It was more of a nursing home than rehab center, but I worked hard. I wanted out of there! I had PT once a day and OT o... Mon, 30 Mar 2015 13:53:00 EST Wow! I walked over 1000 steps today!

Yeah, you read that right, ONLY 1000. Not a huge amount but, considering that I'm 6 weeks post-op (tomorrow) after a knee replacement, it's a major accomplishment for me. I'm sure my physical therapist will be pleased when I see her tomorrow.

I've been working on my therapy exercises and walking. My main goal now is to build up my endurance and stamina so I can go back to work. Sun, 22 Mar 2015 18:40:11 EST Streak broken, but it's OK I had this wonderful streak going, checking into SparkPeople and exercising, but on February 9 I had knee replacement surgery.

I am doing very well, recovering and moving well according to all of my Physical and Occupational therapists. I learned a lot from each of them and I will apply what I learned from them to my recovery from this surgery and when I start preparing for the next one.

The most interesting part of my knee replacement is when the surgeon straightened m... Fri, 27 Feb 2015 10:01:55 EST Fit2Feast fail! I failed the Fit2Feast workout challenge. 39

For the last 2 weeks I've had stomach issues. I'm a lap band patient with a delicate stomach and something got stuck. I did end up losing weight but I also had to have fluid removed from my band so it would dislodge and so the swelling could go down. 24 Now my next challenge is NOT to gain. Fri, 28 Nov 2014 18:43:03 EST Fit2Feast -Day 20 Finally! I am getting well enough to get back to the Fit2Feast workouts. I managed to do one of Coach Nichole's 9 minute lower body workouts. I even got down on the floor! (and got back up!) Pretty good for my bad knees. 334 Thu, 20 Nov 2014 18:56:43 EST Fit2Feast -Day 18 Oops! I skipped day 17. We had a beautiful snow storm Sunday night and I didn't do anything except laundry, washed dishes, and mopped the kitchen floor.

Today I did a 9 minute arm video by Coach Nichole and some leg lifts. Tue, 18 Nov 2014 19:00:03 EST Fit2Feast -Day 16 I took today off. Too hectic today. Not an excuse, reality.

Sun, 16 Nov 2014 20:02:13 EST Fit2Feast -Day 15 I got my 5000+ steps in today! And used the rowing machine for 11 minutes. I know it's an odd amount of time but when I saw how close I was to burning 100 calories according to the machine, I just HAD too! Sat, 15 Nov 2014 18:45:30 EST Fit2Feast -Day 14 Today was a busy day. I took a water Tai Chi class in the therapy pool at the YMCA this morning. I been shopping and working on cleaning but I still haven't logged 5000 steps today. That's not too unusual for a day off. I don't walk as much if I'm not at work. Fri, 14 Nov 2014 17:32:34 EST Fit2Feast -Day 13 I have today off because our work load is down, so I did the recumbent elliptical at the YMCA this morning. The Y was SO crowded! I didn't know so many people went before 11 on Thursday. Thu, 13 Nov 2014 15:03:57 EST Fit2Feast -Day 12 Fit2Feast is working! I lost 1.5 pounds this week!

I don't know how to track today. I did several different exercises from a variety of videos, but I did do something! Wed, 12 Nov 2014 19:47:51 EST Fit2Feast -Day 11 Happy Veteran's Day! May God bless all veterans for their sacrifice.

Today I had to be quick. It was my day to check on my parents and get their dinner ready. So, off to the YMCA I go for 30 (+3 cool-down) minutes on my buddy the recumbent elliptical. If tomorrow isn't too cold I'm going to a water aerobics class in a nice warm therapy pool. Tue, 11 Nov 2014 18:38:42 EST Fit2Feast -Day 10 I said I'd get back to it for real today and I did. I did strength training for about and hour. And I have a plan for the rest of the week. I have to have a plan or nothing happens. Mon, 10 Nov 2014 18:22:44 EST Fit2Feast -Day 9 I could only do 13 minutes of a 16 minute lower body workout video from SparkPeople. not one of Coach Nichole's, but challenging. Sun, 9 Nov 2014 18:03:07 EST Fit2Feast -Day 8 I had an extra bad night last night. I ended up getting about 4 hours of sleep last night.

I ended up rowing on a rowing machine for 10 minutes. I don't know how I had the energy to do it but it made me feel better./ Sat, 8 Nov 2014 15:47:56 EST Fit2Feast -Day 7 I couldn't do it! I planned on going to a water aerobics class but I. Just. Couldn't. Do. It.

I did do about half of an eleven minute video for abs when you have a bad back that I found on SparkPeople, but when she did that sideways leaning plank I said "Forget it!" Soooo, 5 minutes today, maybe...? Fri, 7 Nov 2014 19:58:27 EST Fit2Feast -Day 6 I can't believe I've been at this for 6 days!

I used the recumbent elliptical at the YMCA today. I have 3 goals when I do. I want to do 30 minutes (+3 minutes for cool down), burn 200 calories according to the machine, and go 5 miles. I accomplished all 3 goals. Thu, 6 Nov 2014 18:27:12 EST Fit2Feast -Day 5 I didn't spill my tea today!

Today was a long one. I weighed at the bariatric center and lost 2 pounds this week! Even with Halloween candy! I am cutting down on candy for this next week. After that it was my turn to get dinner for my parents.

And I finally finished my workout for today. I did 2 of Coach Nichole's resistance band workouts, the one for upper body and the one for lower body. Back to the YMCA tomorrow. Wed, 5 Nov 2014 18:32:17 EST Fit2Feast-Day 4 Today had a very bad start. 46 I dropped my Big Bubba monster cup of Pumpkin Spice tea. And the lid popped off. I lost 3 of the 4 cups of tea that was in Bubba. The area I dropped Bubba in now smells like Pumpkin Spice, but that was my main drink for the day.

OK, for Fit2Feast I did two 1 minute stretching videos and Coach Nichole's 9 minute arm video. Not 10 minutes straight of hard work, but I'm counting it!

Now I have to go find something to do for tomor... Tue, 4 Nov 2014 18:07:59 EST Fit2Feast-Day 3 Today was easier than yesterday, almost a no-brainer. Work, YMCA, then home. I did 33 minutes (30+3 for cool down) on a recumbent elliptical.

I still wish that trying on clothes counted for a workout. Mon, 3 Nov 2014 18:06:19 EST Fit2Feast -Day 2 I ran out of time today! My plan was to do my Richard Simmons Stretching to the Classics video, but the VCR(yeah, VCR!) ate the tape! Soooo, I did a chair cardio video from SparkPeople. Whew! It was harder than I expected! Sun, 2 Nov 2014 19:57:20 EST Fit2Feast-Day1 I did it! I started! That has always been a challenge for me. Well, starting and keeping it up.

I did 30 minutes on a recumbent elliptical at the YMCA. I also listened to a short story and some different music whilst exercising. I was able to keep my pace up. And now my bum hurts. 334 Sat, 1 Nov 2014 18:26:16 EST Fit2Feast thought out I'm going to do the Fit2Feast, exercise every day in November, challenge. I'm not good at committing to things like this. I start good then I fizzle out. Something happens, something comes up that I'd rather do... I HAVE to do this! 24

OK, so my plan is to take a clue from Sparkguy and commit to do SOMETHING for 10 minutes everyday. 521 If I can't go to the YMCA , I'll do something at home. It's ONLY 10 minutes!

I'm not planning on extra walkin... Thu, 30 Oct 2014 17:58:31 EST Fit2Feast I'm going to try to do it!

I do something most days anyway and I have the knee replacement coming up after the first of the year, so I may as well kick it up and accomplish my pre-surgery weight loss goal. Tue, 28 Oct 2014 18:20:26 EST I have a Goal! Yeah, I have a weight loss goal, but now I have another, short-term goal.

I saw my orthopedic surgeon today for a cortisone shot and a serious discussion about FINALLY getting my knees replaced. I started seeing him 3 years ago. In that time I've had 4 injection series in my left knee. Only one in my right knee. The last series of injections didn't go so well. The first 2 shots of the series went OK, but I could have done without the last one. It caused more pain than it relieved!... Thu, 25 Sep 2014 18:34:12 EST Random thoughts... I've been doing this weight loss/get in shape thing for almost 10 years now and I didn't know you could lose weight in your hands! Sure, my wrists are smaller and I can wear regular brackets now, not just the custom made ones or anklets as bracelets. The other week I was grousing to myself how BIG my non-latex gloves were at work, so I decided to try a pair of mediums instead of my usual large. They weren't tight!

Did you know that a woman is supposed to get measured for a bra when... Wed, 6 Aug 2014 18:26:50 EST You know you're doing something right... I feel like I'm FINALLY getting it together! I tried on some scrub pants today that I got for work that SHOULD have fit when I got them months ago and NOW they do! A little snug, but they'll work and keep me from having to do laundry so often. (as long as I don't run out of undies) Fri, 20 Jun 2014 20:22:06 EST Rats! I noticed on Friday when I came to SparkPeople that I had a streak of over 250 days going. 46 It's over! I couldn't get online because my internet was down, I worked 12 hours (can't log onto SparkPeople at work), and there were storms when I got home. 28 Sun, 22 Dec 2013 15:39:37 EST My Story I've been on SparkPeople for over a year and I don't think anyone but my closest real life friends know my whole weight loss story/journey.

The part I'm going to tell starts in 2005. I decided it was time to do something about my weight. I was in constant pain in my knees and feet and knew something had to be done. I had been going to a gym that had those tables that move you and shake you. You really didn't have to do a thing! So I started working out with a trainer there. It was ... Sun, 15 Sep 2013 17:07:50 EST Choices Every day is loaded with choices. Do I eat this 4 , or not? Do I go to the gym 198 , or not ? Strength training 85 or aerobics 314 ? I made a bad choice yesterday. It wasn't the food choices. It wasn't if I should go to the gym or not. It wasn't even strength training OR aerobics. I did both. 40 And I'm paying today in sore muscles. 24

Today is a rest/recovery day. 334 Sat, 6 Jul 2013 09:27:36 EST Exercise....some motivation required That's on a tee shirt I got at the Georgia Aquarium last month. It shows a swimmer being chased by a big, BIG shark! It's one of my workout shirts and BOY! do I need motivation some times! Mostly I'm on a recumbent elliptical with the resistance up to 5, 6 or 7, going as fast as I can. My goal is to log at least 5 miles. I've been successful the last few weeks because my favorite machine is next to a treadmill and if there's a runner on it... Well, I'm VERY competitive and I try to keep up! A... Fri, 21 Jun 2013 20:19:00 EST Oops! I did it again! I'm a bit of a klutz. I trip over wrinkles in the air or my own big feet. And I drop things. LOTS!! I drop tubes, caps for those tubes, bottles of controls (at least they end up well mixed!). Sunday, I dropped the cap from a control bottle and it rolled under the counter. Not just under the counter, but into the knee hole of the desk and into a nest of cables for the computer and instrument. FYI, I am LabGirl, I work in a hospital lab doing, well, lab tests. I couldn't do what I usually do an... Tue, 30 Apr 2013 18:11:34 EST When you pray for rain... ...take an umbrella.

Last week my sister had surgery because they found a tumor in her pancreas. Worse case scenario was pancreatic cancer which has an extremely poor prognosis. The night before her surgery she gathered with friends, family and a pastor at the church she attends for a healing prayer circle. Many awesome and strong prayers were offered in her behalf. Also, I asked nearly everyone I knew and a few people I didn't know to pray for her as she went through this. On Mond... Thu, 25 Apr 2013 17:20:14 EST Rough week You know it's a rough week when:

You think losing a half a pound is great.

You spill acid on a brand new (smaller) pair of work pants. Fortunately, they are still wearable for a while.

Your baby sister (yeah, she's 52 but she's still my baby sister) has a 3+ hour surgery for pancreatic surgery.

And next week our baby brother has surgery to repair an umbilical hernia.

Will April ever end... Sat, 20 Apr 2013 19:45:32 EST Working on an idea I hate my dining room. I live alone (well, with a cat) and never use it. So I'm thinking about turning it in to a workout room. I had wood-like flooring installed today. He's coming back tomorrow to finish because of a sick child last night. I have a TV that plays DVDs, some small hand weights and a yoga/pilates mat. Workout room!

All I have to do is get rid of the table and chairs... Mon, 25 Feb 2013 18:38:34 EST Non-scale Victory? I know this is a weird first blog, but I just noticed the strangest thing... One of the doctors I work with (he's a pathologist and I work in a hospital lab) has started talking to me!

OK, a little history. I started working on losing weight and getting healthy in 2005. He was at the hospital then. We all called him 'Dr GQ' behind his back because he's one of those drop-dead gorgeous types. I've worked with a trainer, been on Weight Watchers, gotten the lap band and worked my behi... Thu, 14 Feb 2013 17:57:01 EST
