My most productive year was 2008. Since then, I have repeated this circle. January is the time for fresh goals and fresh motivation. I have adopted some good habits but around October each year I seem to forget them. So now it is January and again I find myself at the top of the circle. It is time to remember those habits once more and determine to make this the year I break the cycle one day at a time. Tue, 1 Jan 2013 23:30:44 EST Time to Try Again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4193241 It is not January 1st. It is not my birthday. It is not the first day of Spring. (Or is it?) But, it is time to try again. It has been two years since my last blog entry. In that time I went through another cycle of loss in summer and regain in winter. Each year I try to make things different. Each time I learn something new that builds on the habits already formed. "Two Degree Changes" are working, but more slowly than I had hoped. And what a roller coaster ride! 198 That is why t... Wed, 27 Apr 2011 00:57:21 EST Breakthrough At Last! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2025483 After 10 months, I have finally broken through the 206.5 plateau! I hit 206.5 back in June 2008 and there I stayed bouncing around. Two weeks ago the scale started to budge in the downward direction. Only a little at first, but this last week it has steadily been dropping. Today, was my weigh in of record. 201.6!

What am I doing differently?

I started being very faithful with my record keeping at the beginning of April. My nutrition chart looked like a mountain range. “... Sat, 2 May 2009 12:40:31 EST Another New Scale http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2008500 192 The new scale we purchased last August has problems. I could weigh myself 3 times in 5 minutes and get three different answers. I was pretty sure that my correct weight was in there somewhere, but I would have to take what I believed to be the correct one. Gee, this sounds very familiar. Isn’t that why we replaced the last one? 101

My husband decided it was time for another new scale. I am sure he was tired of hearing about my frustration. This weekend we b... Sun, 26 Apr 2009 21:09:38 EST Garden Beginning! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1992727 I am so excited that I have to share! Saturday turned out to be a very nice day in North Central Kansas. It was about 67 degrees with a light breeze and NO RAIN! My husband was able to get our garden ready for planting as I cleaned all the garbage out of the flower bed on the South side of the house. My husband increased the size of our garden. I now have a happy delimma. I get to decide how to fill it! This week is supposed to be nice, so I hope to get some early veggies and flowers planted... Tue, 21 Apr 2009 11:55:34 EST Reasons or Excuses? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1978941 There are a dozen different reasons that I haven’t started an exercise routine. Reasons? Yes, some, but I will admit that others are excuses.

★ This year has been busier than most.
★ My schedule is very erratic
★ The weather hasn’t cooperated.
★ Company is limited. (my dog)
★ Gyms cost money I don’t have.
★ Indoor exercise is forced.
★ My energy is gone.
★ It is WORK!!! (Work is defined as effort put... Thu, 16 Apr 2009 15:43:23 EST "I Will Be Good Tomorrow" http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1961475 I have lost 4 lbs. since January. However, this has only brought me to the place I was before the holidays (206.5). I sat on my plateau again for a while, but now the scale goes up and down. I know the cause and have the power to stop it. I am taking my goals too lightly on the day to day. I tell myself, “I will be good tomorrow.” Fri, 10 Apr 2009 15:14:54 EST January 2009 A Fresh Start http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1656148 January is the time for fresh goals and fresh motivation. This year is no different. After hitting a plateau, my motivation disappeared. I adopted some good habits last year and I lost 10 lbs. Now it is time to renew those habits and start some new ones. I bought a new scale and got totally confused on my weight. I decided to start the SparkPeople program over again with new goals and new motivation. I went back to FastBreak and wiped my goal tracking clean. Weighed in on the new scale and w... Sun, 4 Jan 2009 23:46:25 EST Kick It Up a Notch http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1408552 To get past my plateau I am going to have to kick it up a notch. I am currently walking for 20 minutes during my lunch hour. Last week I attempted to start running 2-3 times a week and doing a crunch routine 3-4 times a week. Strengthening my gut muscles won't actually help me lose much weight directly, but it will lesson the bulge. I am having difficulty being consistent with the running because of my evening schedule keeps filling up on the days I need to run. Mon, 18 Aug 2008 16:45:22 EST New Scale http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1380042 We had a dial scale that was years old. Our scale was not always consistent. I could step on the scale twice within a 5 minute period and get two different weights. The amount would be different by 1 or 2 lbs.

Our scale was not accurate. We also noticed that if we were weighed on a doctors scale, we were heavier. Enough that weight and time of day could not account for it all.

My husband decided it was time for a new scale. This weekend we bought a digital scale. No... Mon, 4 Aug 2008 14:09:49 EST Healthy Eating II http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1268599 Meatless meals. I try to plan one evening menu a week that is meatless. Sometimes this means going meatless twice during the week as most recipes make enough for four, but there are only two of us. My husband isn’t big on the idea, but he doesn’t complain. I think he’s actually finding that some of them are pretty tasty. On these days my nutrition stats usually look really good.

Anything goes Sunday. Every Sunday (sometimes Saturday, depending on our social schedule) I have set... Fri, 13 Jun 2008 16:52:44 EST Healthy Eating I http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1248917 Included in those goals was a renewed effort for healthy living. I got off to a rather slow start. My motivation was low. Then I read an article here on sp that made a world of difference. (I can't find it now.) I wanted to eat healthy, but I was determined not to feel hungry or deprived. The article had some suggestions for controlling you appetite. The suggestion that helped me was to eat a bowl of soup before dinner. I extended this idea to include a salad. The idea is to eat somet... Wed, 4 Jun 2008 10:36:06 EST New Goals Set http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1221600 A lot has happened since my last entry. I went through the holidays without giving much attention to a healthy lifestyle and I gained weight. When the new year came, I did not make resolutions, I made a set of goals instead. By moving toward a goal, if you are doing better at the end of the year than you were at the beginning, then you have accomplished much. If you are not where you want to be at the appointed time, continue the goal from a better starting position. When I fall, I pick m... Wed, 21 May 2008 15:08:09 EST Goal Missed http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=781251 Well, my first goal just passed yesterday. My anniversary came and I still weigh 205 pounds. I am still trying to build healthy habits. It is harder than I expected to get the weight off. How do I feel about this? I am disappointed, but not giving up. Most days I eat healthy and drink plenty of fluids, but I am still building the exercise habit. I need to reevaluate my weight loss goal and decide how important it is to me. Do I want to put out the extra effort it is going to take to l... Wed, 10 Oct 2007 16:02:35 EST
