KRISLEEB's SparkPeople Blog KRISLEEB's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Nothing much to say Well, it's one of those blogs where I want to blog, but I have NO idea what to say!! That is bad because Lord only knows WHERE my train of thought will take us!

I had a fairly fun weekend. The MIL was in town so it was nice to hang with her for a bit. I also closed all 3 nights so that always makes the weekend interesting. This particular weekend, it was ALOT of fun! There was a big basketball game on Saturday night & my immediate boss kept disappearing, but that was okay beca... Mon, 3 Feb 2014 12:13:39 EST The "Fun" Job A while back I was having a conversation with my boss at my second job. She was trying to convince me to give her more of my time. She said to me "but this is your FUN job!" At the time I just giggled & shook my head. But ever since then I've come to realize that she's IS my FUN job! I love what I do, I love the people I work with & I have fun doing it all. It's not always easy and it makes me cranky sometimes, but when you stand back & look at the big picture, it's still all... Tue, 28 Jan 2014 10:26:45 EST Stress SUCKS! It has so many faces... For a long time I would say, I have no stress! I work in a job where I sit & wait for the phone to ring in an office where I'm mostly alone. No stress there! Well, I've come to learn that for ME, that is actually VERY stressful. I used to have lots of things that I'd do while I waited for the phone to ring. I was active in Cub Scouts & SP & other little things. Well, I quit scouts (too much politics & my kids weren't in it anymore). I let SP go & the other little things weren't needed ... Thu, 23 Jan 2014 09:39:35 EST I'm back..... sorta Wow! The last time I blogged was August of 2012!?!?!? Yeah, well...... In that year & a half, I finally came to terms with being ok with my weight. Apparently my body likes hovering in this range, hubby likes me the way I am, I can move to do the things I want to do & I'm okay with it. SURE, I'd love to fit in a smaller size or be able to wear the some of the "cute" stuff, but then again, WHERE would I wear it?!?!?! I'm okay with that too.

Over all, I'm quite content with my ... Fri, 10 Jan 2014 11:54:27 EST but it's only 10 minutes of walking..... I stepped on the scale for the first time in.... a while this morning. It came very close to agreeing with the Dr's scale.... just shy of 200. I was NOT happy! But, it's my own fault, but I had NO idea!

See, about 2 months ago I just lost the interest, and that's entirely what it was, I wasn't interested in putting in the work (now some may look at that and go "um, Kris, maybe dr appointment time?".... and you are 100% right, but that's not the point right now) So I just stoppe... Fri, 24 Aug 2012 11:30:35 EST THE Camping Trip I just have to share..... we were camping this weekend. Now, keep in mind that we are avid campers & take it very seriously. We've learned that camping on Holiday weekends is a bad idea because it's when the party people choose to camp....BAD thing.

This past weekend, not really thinking it was "a holiday weekend," we went to a WONDERFUL little amusement park that had a campground. I knew it wouldn't be our normal camping experience, but that it would still be fun. O M G!!!!! I... Tue, 3 Jul 2012 10:45:03 EST The Heat Okay....I'm just gonna put it out there.... I HATE (bold, italicized, underlined, 3 font sizes bigger) THE HEAT!!!

It's more than just the normal "oh it's hot".... I have a reason to fear the heat!! It makes me pass out...... Well, it happened once, when I was a teenager, but I'm guessing it's not something that would be better with me being older now. Taking into consideration the fact that there were extenuating circumstances involved with the events of my youth, it was still ... Thu, 21 Jun 2012 16:08:19 EST Trail Training Journal - Entry 4 This was as unexpected and unplanned as can be. We were out doing something completely different....that I actually had planned on using for the exercise portion of my day (lots of walking). But I had brought some Geocacheing coordinates with me and that's how this came about. It was a rainy day and the 3 kids we had with us were NOT happy to be dragged out into the woods in the weather....but we did it anyway!!

The last cache we tried to find (yeah, we weren't successful) was o... Wed, 13 Jun 2012 09:48:21 EST Trail Training Journal - Entry 3 We just returned from another fun filled hike at Green Lakes. This time we had oldest DD tagging along. Right off the bat we saw a fawn. I pulled out my camera to take a picture (I planned ahead to bring the camera & trail map!) and it wouldn't do a thing!!! Yep, the batteries were dead.....damn you Murphy! Along the trail we saw several cool birds, a bunch of rabbits and a total of 2 deer. Inspiring all together though.

What made today's hike interesting was Mum Nature... Tue, 5 Jun 2012 20:41:35 EST Trail Training Journal - Entry 2 This was sorta planned, but more for fun than training. It was another interesting hike. Not very strenuous, but tricky none the less. First I'll start by telling you that the full name of the location is "Camillus Forest Unique Area" and it is unique for sure!!!! We did it as a family hike......

You'll notice that the grass stuff is almost as tall as the smallest DD!!! This was actually some of the... Wed, 30 May 2012 11:29:40 EST Trail Training Journal - Entry 1 Well, I said I wasn't going to start until June 1st, but I lied!!! Thursday I dropped the kids off to band practice & B to a friend and met DH at Green Lakes State Park. It's a beautiful State Park just 15 minutes from the house and 7 min from band practice. They have over 10 miles of trails of all kinds of difficulty levels.

Now, originally I figured that I'd better start off with easy to moderate but the 2 "easy" trails are the ones around the lakes and the most popular (I'm n... Fri, 25 May 2012 13:14:42 EST Another Bucket List Item....but I'm motivated on this one! The other day I was doing some research for my husband and a friend for a hike they want to do with the sons. They want to hike, camp and hike some more....all the very rustic kind of hiking/camping. Now, remember, my hubby & the oldest son went off to New Mexico last year to do this on BSA property. I was kinda jealous then.

WELL..... as I researched the trail they want to hike I got inspired!! The trail is The Finger Lakes Trail that runs roughly from Allegany State Park (NY/... Tue, 22 May 2012 11:50:10 EST Syracuse Sparkers have raised $190 for Make A Wish!!! I just wanted to send a shout out to my fellow team members that have supported this year's Make A Wish walk here in Syracuse. Rebeka (& Doug), Amanda, Anita, Ronnie & myself have raised $190 in on-line donations. That doesn't count any we hand in at the walk this Saturday.

The Syracuse Sparkers have hosted a team for this walk for the last 4 years. It has always seemed like a good match.....a good workout to support a great cause!!! Even when we didn't have the monetary donati... Wed, 2 May 2012 15:04:30 EST Why I do this. Yesterday I made a statement in my blog that caused some to comment on my motives for doing the SP thing. I said "he doesn't seem to care," which implied that I do this for him. So I got to thinking....who AM I doing this for? And the answer was very quick & easy.....ME! DH along with several other men in my life are regularly telling me how attractive I am. I don't know that I'd go that far, but I will say that I AM okay with what there is (as long as I don't have to look in a mirror). ... Tue, 1 May 2012 11:43:04 EST What's worse than emotional eating you ask? Going into full shut down mode. "I'm so upset I just give up. No more SP for me. Who cares!"

Yep, that was me this morning. I couldn't eat my sorrows away (cause I don't keep enough crap at work, but the sad part is, there's more here at work than there is at home!!) so I just decided that I'd give up. Who cares. He obviously doesn't, so...... and everyone else keeps telling me that I'm beautiful just the way I am. So why bother??? I even went straight to the mailbox & back... Mon, 30 Apr 2012 13:52:00 EST Hit bumps already?!?!?!? This morning I decided that one thing I need to work on is the speed at which I eat. It's TOOOOOOOO FAST! I can smeer my cream cheese, take a bite and it's gone! How'd that happen?!?!? I was just smeering!!! Yep, that's me. So this morning I smeered, made myself wait til I got back to my desk to take the first bite and then forced myself to put it down until ALL the bite was gone. Then I picked it up for another bite, etc until it was gone. I felt GREAT!!!

Lunch came.....Ma... Thu, 26 Apr 2012 14:46:22 EST Lost a week So I have no idea what happened to April 7th thru today!!! I didn't track, I didn't do anything on SP except log in. Granted 3 of those 5 days I really wasn't near a computer, but......

Now, Saturday I worked a shift that ate up my whole day (I don't count work as exercise because I don't get my heart rate up AT ALL). It wasn't long, just plunk in the middle of the day. Sunday was Easter of course. Coulda gone & done something with the family but opted to stay in and spend it ... Thu, 12 Apr 2012 13:05:21 EST March Sucked Okay, I gave up. There, I said it..... I gave up in March. And so far April isn't looking so great either, BUT.... it IS only the 5th! I really want to get back on track. I was at the Dr yesterday and she said everything was right with the world, but....I feel like a bump on a log. I need to get moving for my own sake.

Course, April is one of the busiest months of the year. LOTS of birthdays. Once we get through April we are officially in the "active" months! May is parades... Thu, 5 Apr 2012 13:30:23 EST So much for THAT motivator My motivation balloon lost some major air yesterday. I had set a goal to be able to run with the hubby this summer. Well, yesterday he found a more suitable running buddy. It's a good thing for him....she is running at a pace that is more suited to him and she's ready to run NOW. But it still kinda hurt. (Actually, my whole body hurt yesterday, but that was because of working 48 hours straight pretty much....LOL)

But this morning it struck me.....I can still get ready to run w... Mon, 12 Mar 2012 14:05:00 EST CCASKEY37 would be proud!!! Yesterday I woke up on my day off from my day job with a clear plan.... go for a run, work on a band project and other productive activities that do not include watching TV. So up I got, put away some laundry & got on my running clothes. It was rumored to still be in the 60s....rain due later in the afternoon.

I step outside and what is happening??? It's sprinkling of course. This is where CCASKEY37 comes into the picture.... I start hearing voices (he came to mind because I w... Fri, 9 Mar 2012 13:31:56 EST Bad Days & Good Days During a recent "conversation" with my 16 yr old, he shouted at us "It's not my fault that you hate your life!" Afterwards he apologized & said he had "just said that." But it stuck with I complain too much??? After surveying the other people around me, they assured me that I do not.

Now, today I'm having what I call a "bad attitude day." I am not happy and am down right cranky. No real reason, just woke up that way. I recognize this and combined with the previous co... Fri, 2 Mar 2012 12:41:10 EST Lenten Promises & Fasting We are now fully into Lent for 2012. Let the sacrificing begin! I really think that many times people forget the real reason for giving something up for Lent. It's something that is supposed to be a true sacrifice in remembrance or recognition of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. And it shouldn't just be lip service, you should actually GIVE UP what you say you are. Now, I admit, I've been among the cheaters in the past. This year I hope to be true. I've given up candy - which does NOT ... Thu, 23 Feb 2012 15:59:25 EST Hypocrite so I sit here reading a SP Friend's blog about how well he's doing skipping the Taco Bell & Doritos & working out. I cheer him on and pat him on the back telling him he's doing it all right.

What is bad is that I'm sitting reading his good choices as I swallow some "fun size" (there isn't anything FUN about them!) Twizzlers, sour patch kids, garlic cheese on crackers, etc...... it really isn't pretty.

He lists off his work on the treadmill, track and in local parks whil... Tue, 21 Feb 2012 12:53:21 EST My Exercise Okay, well, I've read a few blogs lately about what people have been doing for daily exercise so I figured I'd put down what I've been doing. I'm right on track for my February far so good!

Last night was super cool. Came home from watching a great wrestling match, slipped on the new Zumba pants & did a Wii Fit Free Run for 10 min (first time). It was so cool!! It was like being on a treadmill at the gym but in my livingroom! I was able to watch NCIS and everything... Thu, 16 Feb 2012 10:07:56 EST Another Diet Plan Holy CATS!!! I haven't blogged since October?!?!?!?! Oh, the horror!!! I've been trying to think of something to say....honest!!!

Okay, now onto today's thought....

I read another weight-loss "theory" today. This one says he's compiled all the research from the last decade and made it understandable to you & me. Well, I have to say it's another one that is destined for failure. It has some basic concept ideas that I can live with, but it still has foods that are "o... Thu, 2 Feb 2012 15:17:10 EST Trick or Treat!!! Typically on Halloween I'm the one who stays behind to hand out candy. Tonight I made the conscious decision to change that! I made arrangements so that I could join my hubby in taking the kids out to Trick or Treat. It might actually work out really older daughter invited a friend and they may want to break off from the boys & little kids so I can go off with them. I don't like the idea of them going off alone.

The one stick in my side about tonight is that I really... Mon, 31 Oct 2011 15:55:42 EST Don't want your stinking money! About 2 or 3 years ago my family of 6 sent a letter, as in good old fashioned snail mail, to our friends and family. It simply said that we'd rather they spend their TIME with us, rather than buying us gifts. We had 2 specific people in mind, but it was a good message to send to everyone. It was also a message within the immediate family. The message was that things you buy with money are just THINGS. Time you spend together makes memories that last a lifetime.

One of the peop... Tue, 25 Oct 2011 09:29:15 EST Ironic, really My 8 yr old starts her afterschool yoga class today. She is SO excited!!! On Saturday she starts her ZumbAtomic classes. It's amazing to me that she's really into this stuff!! This is NOT stuff I do around the house so it's not leading by example or anything. And I didn't force her into doing either of them.

The afterschool thing is part of a "Feeling Good Fitness Club" program the school is doing. There were 3 choices (only 2 for her though). She could choose the yoga or so... Tue, 4 Oct 2011 14:03:17 EST Fell into that darn trap A while back I decided that THIS journey was about learning about making better informed decisions but I wasn't about to limit what I ate just because it was "bad" for me. I promised myself that I'd just keep portions in control. My theory is that if you tell yourself "NO! You can NEVER have that again!" sooner or later you'll cave and gorge yourself with that forbidden item. All things in moderation is my motto. I swore I'd NEVER get mad at myself for WHAT I ate but rather how much. <BR... Sat, 3 Sep 2011 12:35:21 EST Been away, but went nowhere. So, my kids & hubby all embarked on their various trips the beginning of last week. It was just as hard as I had suspected and I lost all motivation to most everything. I did start a home improvement project which my younger son took ownership of (he didn't leave til Friday) so I didn't have to do the beginning no motivation there either!!!

OH, and it was hotter than blazes so I REALLY had no motivation to do anything!!!

I didn't take the kids to the movies ... Mon, 25 Jul 2011 15:29:19 EST Shooting for the Stars Okay, the article I read for the Syracuse Sparkers May Challenge encourages adults to explore those untapped skill sets with the vigor of a child (

motivation_articles.asp?id=288

So, loving a challenge, I sit here pondering what I could try.......... well, I've recently watched my youngest learn to ride a bike without training wheels. It was so great!!! So now I just have to tap into that energy & excitement.

But..... Mon, 16 May 2011 15:27:21 EST Stress & Exercise So this morning on my 11 min walk to get the mail I was watching a Robin try to keep his distance from me. Then I listened to the sound of the traffic rushing by. I admired the 3rd attempt of a property owner to seed grass where the big trucks INSIST on driving. Then I realized how very relaxed I felt as I walked along. Sure, my calves were hurting and my hip was a little sore, but I felt at peace with the world.

Now, there's all kinds of studies showing that exercise reduces s... Thu, 12 May 2011 13:07:39 EST I have this idea okay, so I live a block away from an outdoor track that is near one of the schools. I am in no shape to run/jog any these days. Last time I tried, I threw my back out. SO....I have this idea to do my own sorta "couch to 5K" type thing with the track. I am hoping to get into the habit of going over to the track 5 days out of 7. DH thinks the track is a 1/4 mile so..... start with walking 3 1/2 laps & jogging 1/2. and working my way up to being able to do all 4 laps. I anticipate it shou... Wed, 23 Mar 2011 15:40:11 EST Thoughts on Exercise So yesterday DH & I had a bit of an argument. It was mostly because of a stress filled weekend combined with not enough "us" time and too much time being locked up with the know, typical end of Winter stuff! But, in the course of the venting, John made the statement "...and you went off and started exercising." I was a little surprised by the statement but went on to the next thing.

But you know those things that stick with you..... yeah, this was one of them. Was h... Tue, 8 Mar 2011 14:51:53 EST What a Loooooooooooooonnnnnnnnng day!!! Okay, today was one of my favorite scout events that I've come up with. We call it "Scouting the Mall". A local mall has an entire wing of "community" resources.....including a Skate Park!! There's also a HUGE space not being used that they let us use for a home base and for the Boy Scouts to sleep over (funnest part!)

I started at 9am and just sat down for the first time. We had over 100 scouts participate & about 40 stay for the sleep-over. I was in charge of registration...... Sat, 5 Mar 2011 23:15:14 EST You never stop learning So this AM DS had his physical. Was for his Philmont trek and for school. We were expecting his weight to be an issue for the Philmont requirements (he doesn't weigh enough) but there were a few other minor issues. After we got done with pleasantries they asked me to leave for the actual physical part. No big, he's 15 now. But I could hear the conversation while I stood in the hall. I heard him say things that just appalled me. I realized how little respect he has for his father. I kn... Wed, 2 Mar 2011 13:23:52 EST March Goals Okay, truth be told, I didn't complete my goal for February of finishing 2 projects that were already cut out. I did complete 1 so I get a 50% completion on it. AND, I did complete 5 quilt squares but they were all new projects so they don't count. I did try to work on a project for John that I had cut out, but the machine started acting up and I got cranky and walked away.

SO....I think that means that I get to set 2 goals for March.....the 1st being to complete 2 sewing projec... Tue, 1 Mar 2011 09:58:49 EST Doing VERY well Okay, I've been on this fitness "kick" for about a month now. Even yesterday, when I was feeling a little sick I did 60 mins!!! Not as much cardio, but I even got some cardio in!!

So when I had my 6 month dr appointment (thyroid issues cause me to have them every 6 mos) and she said I'm her "STAR Brabham Patient" (remember, there are 6 of us) I felt pretty good! I'm up against a 7 year old for crying out loud!

My weight is down, my cholesterol is down, everything is r... Fri, 25 Feb 2011 14:14:04 EST A Challenge for DH First, I'll say HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!! I know not everyone enjoys this particular day, but it's fun to have a holiday stuck in amid all the snow!!! DH & I don't usually do much that is special, except for maybe a few extra kisses!

Now, I've been setting my own goals and doing a pretty good job. DH, on the other hand, not so much. And he has a BIG reason to set some goals....his trip to Philmont this summer!!! There are some VERY strict fitness guidelines to be allowed to go ... Mon, 14 Feb 2011 10:24:01 EST I passed on the chips!!! So last night DH decided he wanted chips while we watched TV (we didn't watch the big game, but we did catch a moment here & there). He asked if I wanted some, but I passed!!! They were nachos with salsa but I still passed.

I DID have 1 beer, but it was a lonnnnnnnnnggggg weekend and only having 1 beer is an amazing thing!!!

But I did feel very good saying no. I didn't even sneak one when he sat there eating (actually got up & changed over the laundry until he had e... Mon, 7 Feb 2011 09:16:40 EST February Goal Well, here we are starting another month. So that means another goal. I suppose I should update you on how January turned out.... I DID get my medical history all together except for one little bit of information which I am getting later this month on my semi-annual Dr's appointment. Then I'll share it with my family! Now I want to start compiling them for the kids....they'll need them sooner than later!

So for February my goal is to complete 2 sewing projects that I started al... Wed, 2 Feb 2011 10:07:48 EST Just DO it already!!! Okay, so I've been super active the last few days and I feel GREAT!!!

Over Christmas I sat down & sewed a bunch of projects and had a great time doing it!!!

And I know both of these facts to be true....I feel good when I exercise & I really enjoy WHY is it so hard to get it going!?!?!? Once I sit down at my sewing table I'm into it and I go until I can't do any more. Or, I stand up and do some wall push-ups or dumbbell raises of some sort, I'm off & runn... Mon, 17 Jan 2011 10:33:09 EST Resolutions It's funny, I posted this to my personal blog yesterday and today read a Daily Spark Blog from an expert saying much the same thing about setting I decided to post it here as well!

First of all, let me wish you all a Happy & Prosperous 2011!!!!

Now, I've been very troubled this past week about my New Years Resolution. I have an issue with making resolutions (and the same goes for giving stuff up for Lent) because so many times you bite off more ... Tue, 4 Jan 2011 14:51:41 EST Almost Perfect Me Several days ago I posted to Facebook "I've decided that I'm gonna be a grin & nod patient from now on. They don't listen anyway so why bother!" and for the most part, I really do mean it. I've been poked, prodded & tortured only to come up with a lot of "it doesn't make sense" statements or "I guess it really wasn't anything." But that's all for another rant (I won't say blog because that implies it would be a pleasant conversation, which it would NOT be!)

One reoccurring issue i... Fri, 3 Sep 2010 13:48:58 EST Back to School Supplies I just posted this on a team message board, but I thought I'd post it here too to reach a bigger audience....but before I do....

there's a new campaign out that some of the TV stations and more importantly, Disney, has's the "Give a Day" program (just searched for more info and it turns out Disney has stopped giving out free passes but still supports the movement) which asks everyone to donate a day of their time to a worthy cause. We ALL have ONE day we can give to... Fri, 6 Aug 2010 11:25:03 EST The Challenge This month John & I both have physicals. I'm not so worried about mine but John is in BIG trouble. He's in his first year of being diagnosed with Diabetes and the first few months he was great! He exercised, watched what he was eating, etc. Well, when the Philmont trip got postponed, that all fell off. Now, here we are...physical time and he's in trouble.

SO.... to help him (and sideways help me) I proposed a challenge. That we BOTH have to do 30 min of cardio exercise 5 days... Tue, 3 Aug 2010 11:02:11 EST Gotta ditch the candy! First off.... this is the first blog since APRIL!?!?!? WTH???

Anyway..... about 3 months ago I had this dreadful craving for sour and gummy. That of course leads to Sour Patch Kids or Sour Gummy Worms. So I got some. The craving continued. Then Swedish fish entered the picture. It wasn't a pretty picture. I knew they were not good food choices, but..... it was just this once.

Well, that "once" turned into "once" every 3 or 4 days!! My DH, being the sweetie that ... Fri, 16 Jul 2010 10:40:22 EST It stuck with me I was listening to John Tesh last night as I drove home. Most of the time he doesn't say anything that I haven't already heard on SP. But last night he said something that came back to me this morning so apparently it's worth a second visit/blog!

From his website (
) He reported:
The biggest mistake people make is working out simply to burn calories. So they’ll keep walking on a treadmill for an hour while flipping through a magazine. What matters ... Thu, 22 Apr 2010 10:34:56 EST Darn doctors!!!! A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with a major health issue. I won't go into specifics, it's not a life & death issue, but one that impacts her life quite a bit. And this isn't about the health issue but rather how her doctors/nurses/other medical folks are dealing with it.

Now, it's not something that is going to change immediately. It's something that is going to take time and some major life adjustments. And those don't come easily, especially when you've been doing th... Mon, 12 Apr 2010 12:46:44 EST
