I'm 40 now, and all I can say is "Thank God!" It's about time. Turning 40 takes a lot of pressure off. No one really cares what you look like if you're 40 or older, because you're too old! and they're surprised and complimentary if you look good at all! <BR> <BR> Makes me laugh. Last I had plateau'd at 226, sometime in August I think. Well, I hadn't been on the bike since Sunday until this morning... I rode in to work this morning, because today is Wednesday, which is our ride day, meaning Noah and I should pull another 20 or so at lunch today. We talked over riding schedules yesterday, and although our schedules don't permit us to ride together on Sundays for the next several weeks, we decided to keep riding separately with the goal of doing our own century on October 3rd. He thinks it will be raining, but I told him no... Wed, 19 Aug 2009 11:05:50 EST Portland Century Half-Century Woo-hoo! What a great ride! The 50 mile loop turned out to be actually about 54 miles, and with my commute to the start and back from the finish I actually rode about 65 miles today in just under 6 hours. <BR> <BR> Had a weird thing happen during the ride, somewhere around mile 55 we hit a fairly long downhill stretch, and since my butt was sore, I crouched over the saddle instead of sitting in it. Well, when I went to sit back down the saddle had tilted up!!! I had to pull over, pull ... Sun, 16 Aug 2009 20:05:18 EST not a great week Well, it's Saturday, and the Portland Century bike ride is tomorrow, and that's about the only thing I'm looking forward too! <BR> <BR> It was a rough week; I haven't been on Spark all week, and I know my diet was out of control. It was an emotional week, and really for no good reason. I think it was hormonal, and personally, I hate that! Especially since I know if I'd kept it together, a good diet and workouts go a long way towards countering hormonal fluctuations!!! <BR> <BR> Anyway,... Sat, 15 Aug 2009 10:59:02 EST Back on Track! Well it took a couple of days of careful tracking and exercise, but I did it! I dumped that vacation weight, and I'm back down to 226 this morning, which means I'm back on track to my goal of somewhere around 138!!! I realize that's months and months away, but it feels good to be back on track. <BR> <BR> Rode to work this morning, which is only a 5 mile commute, but I did it on the road bike because Noah and I are planning on a 20-mile ride during lunch. He should be riding his road bike ... Thu, 6 Aug 2009 10:57:38 EST Back from Vacation in CO! Well, I went on a small vacation, out to Colorado, to visit my family, and see my sister do her first triathlon! It was a great, but calorically expensive, weekend. The first thing we did when I got there was make sugar cookies with icing!!! My sister did a six-mile run in the morning after that cookie binge. I slept in... Then we had funnel cakes at water world, and then we had chips later, and banana cream pie at dinner with Allison. Well this was all fine for the little sis, because ... Tue, 4 Aug 2009 10:14:47 EST almost 3 weeks in... Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since June 27th, the day I started paying attention again, and trying to take care of myself. I did another unplanned weigh-in today, because this week has been a strange week in that I've eaten TONS, and worked out TONS, and the heat has kicked in, and I'm just having a hard time telling what's going on with my body... so I stepped on the scale this morning, and sure enough, I'm down to 232! So that's 8 pounds in 3 weeks, roughly 2.5 pounds per week, and to me that... Fri, 17 Jul 2009 09:54:32 EST Monday's Weigh-In Even though my scheduled weigh-in day is Monday, I was so happy with Monday's weigh-in, and felt so good, that I weighed in again on Wednesday, two days later. Well the scale showed me down 2 more pounds at 236! Fri, 10 Jul 2009 20:52:42 EST Cross-Training Several things on my mind this morning about working out. I haven't mentioned it yet, but I've been road testing road bikes, and intend to buy one. My co-worker, Noah, and I went on a 40 mile bike ride about 10 days ago, and when we were done, he said we should do it every weekend and our goal is 100 miles, a Century, if you will. Well, I haven't been able to get that idea out of mind since. The funny thing is, I have my doubts about whether or not Noah will actually do it, but I don't ha... Tue, 7 Jul 2009 10:10:22 EST Unexpected soreness... I feel a little sore today, just from the light weight work I did yesterday, which I thought was really minimal. I didn't actually expect any soreness today, but I do have a little in my thighs and quads. Going for a bike ride today with some friends, and I'm hoping that will work some of this soreness out... Sat, 4 Jul 2009 11:26:55 EST Premature Weigh-In I weighed in on Monday, after starting to track food and fitness again just on last Saturday. I wanted to check where I was, and I was happy to find I was still right where I left off in February at 240. <BR> <BR> I've been eating fairly well, although out quite a bit this week, and I've been riding, and although I knew I should just wait until Monday, I weighed in this morning, 3 days later, to see how I was doing. We all know when you kick in you usually experience a fairly rapid weigh... Thu, 2 Jul 2009 21:49:20 EST summer is where it's at!!! It hit 90 today here in Portland, and I had a great, although relatively short, bike ride tonight! about 11 miles, took me 50 minutes, and about half of that was against the wind which knocked me down about 4-5 mph!!! I entered it in my fitness tracker and it estimates I burned 800 calories, which simply stuns me. I'm not sure how that's possible and I'm pretty sure I don't believe it, but I'm leaving it entered, because they probably know better than I do! Either way, I had to guess at l... I'm pleased to report that this little hiatus did not cost me any weight gain!!! Thank goodness for small favors... I don't have to start over, just pick up where I left off... Mon, 29 Jun 2009 20:11:32 EST 3.5 weeks in and 12 pounds down! A couple of things. I hit this lifestyle change hard the first week and did great, and lost 7 pounds. The next two weeks were rough, overeating and under-exercising, like panic in the face of success. One of the things that bothers me is always panicking when succeeding! Seriously, how ironic! <BR> <BR> I'm cleaning it up again this week, and things are going well. I'm 3.5 weeks in and down 12 pounds. Finally, my clothes are fitting better.
