KNYAGENYA's SparkPeople Blog KNYAGENYA's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community A Mouse, Irma and Me! Every year my friend asks me to go to Disney World with her and her daughter. Every year after a consideration of about 2 seconds, I agree. This year we went in early September. We usually go at the end but not this year. We were there from September 2-12. This included a 2 day extra stay thanks to my friend, Irma.

The trip to Disney World was wonderful. On the 7th things started to go badly for us. During this whole trip everyone kept an eye on Irma. We did not watch the news at t... Sun, 17 Sep 2017 14:12:21 EST My job is safe for now Well, I have some good news. It seems as the redesign of Medicaid is not going to go in effect until January of 2018. I should be safe in my job until then. I do not know what will happen after that. I am trying to focus on where I am now and am happy that I still have my position. I am still looking for another job. I had a interview and it was a flop. They messed up my resume. If you boil it down I had someone else's interview. As soon as I gave my salary requirement the interview ended, we... Wed, 19 Jul 2017 08:06:07 EST Job drama As some of you know I work at the local mental health center. A big portion of our funding comes from billing Medicaid. 528 Medicaid is unveiling a huge redesign for behavioral health in July. I will have to deal with some of the changes, mainly I have to give up my job and be reassigned. 46 I will no longer be allowed to run groups and I am going to go back to working at the crisis hotline. 29 This is not the most ideal move for me but I am trying to be gr... Wed, 7 Jun 2017 08:07:35 EST I won the battle of the bathing suit I have not purchased a new bathing suit in over 18 years. I will be going to the beach while I am on vacation. Well you need a bathing suit to go in to the water. So I took my self to the store and I prepared for the worst. I looked though all of the suits. There were tankinis, bikinis, and one pieces. Oh the selection. There were a ton that I would not be caught dead in. Well I found a perfectly lovely one. I found my size and I loved it! It fit beautifully. It was almost made for me. There... Tue, 16 May 2017 09:53:02 EST My office I work in a mental health center and I am office based. I have my own office. There was talk about a year ago about moving to the other side of the building to be part of the Emergency Services department. Well yesterday I was informed that the move would be happening. I will be moving across the building in to a cubicle. My office is being taken away and I get a stinking' cubicle. I will now be the only office based person in a cubicle. I am not happy with this. I had a long conversation ... Fri, 24 Feb 2017 07:55:07 EST Better try something different It has been almost 3 weeks since I started my attempt to get a Pandora bead when I lose 10 pounds. I haven't lost a pound, an ounce or anything. I have been gaining and losing the same 3 pounds!! I have been helping a friend write a grad paper and I have been so tired I have been missing my morning workouts. My place of employment has a work out room. Yesterday, I signed the waiver and was able to get the code to the room. I am going to try to start working out during work. It will be great w... Wed, 8 Feb 2017 08:04:07 EST New Found Motivation When I was younger I was motivated by food, mostly sweets...oh, who am I kidding? 334 I was motivated by ALL foods. 483 493 After I started to lose weight I was motivated by seeing the scale go down each week. 192 Then I found myself being motivated by rewarding myself with items for every 10 pounds lost. Finally, the motivation to keep the weight off for these two years is being able to fit in to much smaller sizes. 346 These were s... Fri, 20 Jan 2017 17:39:27 EST 40! Today I turn 40! Wow! I was not looking forward to this number as I do not handle the new decades well. I really don't think it has hit me as badly as I thought it would. I am trying to keep in mind that a lot has happened in the last couple of years and 40 is a wonderful milestone.

Here are the highlights:
- I am in a stable job and I love where I work and the people I work with, well most of the time.
- I am able to take care of all the finances on my income.
- I... Sat, 14 Jan 2017 13:10:11 EST Adventures in Tae Bo As some of you already know, I had a major cleaning overhaul of my house. 436 I now have a workout room. In the room I have my elliptical and my Nordic track. 314 I also have a small TV and a VCR. Remember those? I have been watching movies while I work out. Then I thought to myself: wouldn't it be nice to have workout tapes to use?! Now I didn't have high expectations as I know the VCR is going to be obsolete and so will the tapes. I went to a local resale shop run... Sun, 28 Aug 2016 09:08:01 EST Time for a possible career change As some of you may know, I am a social worker. 41 When I first graduated college I was able to do a ton with my degree. Sadly, things have greatly changed in the last 17 years. I am now not able to do as much. 39 In a nutshell,l I will be stuck in my current position and won't be able to advance. I run groups that teach the mentally ill coping skills. Pretty much the skills that we take for granted. My department is always over looked. 28 This is especially... Sat, 23 Jul 2016 10:15:33 EST Binge and Purge Do not be alarmed. I am not binging and purging on food. 4 On this weight loss journey I have been focusing on weight and not all of the other stuff that goes with it.

I was buying things that I did not need or even really want. I enjoyed buying things to manage my emotions. 40 I have been in my house for going on 12 years. That is a lot of time to gather things. I went from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 6 bedroom house. What happens when you have all those ro... Wed, 13 Jul 2016 10:21:08 EST One year of maintaining I decided to take a walk down memory lane. 361 I wanted to see how I was doing number wise in the weight department over this past year. Well it seems as if I have spent one year in the world of maintaining my weight. 224 I did not lose any weight but I did not gain any either. 192 I should be pretty happy with this. I am still trying to come to terms that I have put on 11 pounds after I went back to work full time. Now, part of me does not see this as a p... Thu, 24 Dec 2015 11:32:28 EST Waste! A couple of days ago I was watching an episode of Dr. Oz. The episode covered the amount of food that the average American wastes or throws away. I was horrified at the amount! 29 I then decided to stroll over to my fridge to see what I had in the form of food. 189 I had to hang my head in shame when I saw the amount of food that had to be thrown away. Every Sunday I clean out the fridge before trash day on Monday. If I had to give an amount I think we wasted $20 a we... Sat, 10 Oct 2015 12:43:12 EST Sneaking in exercise I have changed how I look at exercise. I was obsessed with it when I started this journey and worked out several hours a day. I was also unemployed and had tons of time on my hands. 128 I have been with my current employer for two years now.

I have put on 13 pounds in the last two years. 39 The old me would have been very upset with this number. 46 The new me is happy because I think that weight was not healthy. 30 I can no longer... Sat, 5 Sep 2015 08:13:20 EST Bathing suits, ugh! I went bathing suit shopping yesterday as I need one for an upcoming picnic 298 and for when I go to Disney World in September. 26 I went to the store and found only one suit in my size. How is it when I needed a larger suit I couldn't find one but as soon as I need a smaller one there aren't any?! 40 I try on the suit and it fit but I felt horrible in it. I didn't like how I had to squish all of my loose skin in the suit. Oh, it was horrible! 29</e... Mon, 20 Jul 2015 07:38:28 EST Water Challenge My place of employment is having a water challenge. 194 At first, I didn't want to participate in it. 24 Well my boss changed my mind. We have to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. At the end of day 7 we get entered in a drawing for prizes. I am game for free stuff. 41 So far, I have been doing fairly well. I didn't want to drink that much because what goes in must come out. In the beginning I was urinating every couple of minutes. It has improved. I... Sat, 18 Jul 2015 11:15:58 EST Motivation It seems like motivation comes and goes with me lately. 29 One day I have all of this motivation and things are going well. The next day, I don't know what it is, but it seems to change and go away. There was a time where I really looked forward to exercise and now I seem to be dreading it. 24 I think part of it has to do with the fact that I have a stressful job and I am exhausted when I come home. Of course, deep down I know this is an excuse I tell myself to make... Sat, 11 Jul 2015 12:24:33 EST Life means change I have had a lot happen in the last year or so. Life certainly does not go like I would like it. When I was unemployed I had tons of time that was available to me. So I exercised. I exercised a lot...maybe even to the point of excessive. (Ask me about my 3 hour spin classes some time.) I knew that when I returned to work I would not be able to dedicate the same amount of time that I once did. I am no where near it. I did put on about 12 pounds since I am not able to work out like I once did. ... Sat, 9 May 2015 12:05:01 EST A new year! Happy New Year! 107

The new year is here and that means it is time to rethink some things. 40

1) I need to start doing more things that make me happy. 30 I need to stop trying to make everyone else happy. I'm going to do more crafts, make more cards and put more of a focus on my knitting and knitting charity.

2) I'm going to work on not obsessing over what the scale reads or the label in my jeans. 192 No one... Fri, 2 Jan 2015 13:45:49 EST Finally! After 20 months of looking for a full time job I finally found one! Yes, the search is over. I was working at the crisis hotline at the county mental health center for the last 8 months. It is only a part time job so I continued to look. I applied to help with the partial hospitalization program that is run at the mental health center when a position became available. Well, today I was offered the job. It is full time, has medical benefits and vacation time. I hope this means that things are ... Thu, 24 Jul 2014 19:16:09 EST Freedom from numbers It seems wherever I go I am hit with the importance of numbers. I am going to focus on numbers pertaining to weight. 192

I'm stuck trying to figure out where I should be weight wise. 40 In the beginning of my weight loss journey I had a goal in mind but to be honest I never thought I would get there. I thought I would give up or just not lose the weight. I surprised myself and actually lost the weight and went well under my goal. 30 I started ... Sat, 5 Jul 2014 11:02:33 EST Happiness is.... Sometimes I wish I had an answer to this question. Some days, I think I know the answer but lately it's a day to day thing.

Life seems to be throwing me a lot of curve balls lately. 60 Work is going well. I have been able to pick up some additional hours and that has helped a ton. 528 I applied for a job at the Rape Crisis Center that is also run through my mental health center. I am officially off of probation so now I can be considered for it. Please, k... Tue, 20 May 2014 14:08:40 EST Goodbye chubby clothes! I have spent the last couple of weeks going through and throwing away a lot of items. I decided it was time to say goodbye to the last of my chubby clothes. 15

I am not sure as to why I decided to keep the clothes for as long as I did. I found a garbage bag and filled it with clothes and then I donated it to the local Salvation Army. Not only am I cleaning out my closets, but I am giving someone else the opportunity to have some clothes that fits them. 41 ... Tue, 25 Mar 2014 13:52:42 EST I need a break! I know that life is not going to be easy. I know there is going to be hardship and not everything will go that way that I want. It seems as if nothing is going right for me lately. 39 I need to take a break from negative thinking and put a positive spin on it.

1). I can't find a full time job to save the life of me. I have found a part time job working at the local mental health center as a crisis phone clinician so something is better than nothing.
- Positive- I h... Mon, 3 Feb 2014 15:04:28 EST I'm sorry I haven't been around much lately. I'm sorry that I haven't been around as much as I would like. My life has taken a huge turn for the unexpected and I haven't been able to be on SP as much as I am usually. 39

Here is a little update- I was hired as a nanny. I hated it. I was hired to take care of an autistic boy. Well, it seems as if the mother had other plans for me. She wanted me to be at her beck and call. She made a contract that really only benefited her. She was not very happy when I refused to ... Mon, 2 Dec 2013 15:21:32 EST My Nordic Track My in-laws have decided to move in with my sister-in law and they have been getting rid of household items. 534 They had a Nordic Track that I hoped would be offered to me. 548 Well, guess what? It was! 224 Yesterday, my father in law offered it us and we were able to take it home. It took me a little while to get it going as I found it awkward. Today, I was able to work out on it for 2 hours. I had to break it up in one hour sections but I did it. I reall... Tue, 22 Oct 2013 16:14:06 EST The adventures of Princess Glutina Yes, I am Princess Glutina. 285 I have been gluten free for over 16 months. It is a lot easier than I thought it would be. I have improved in knowing what I can eat and what I need to stay away from. Sometimes I end up being glutened but it is only because I forget to ask family members what is in a meal. They know I am gluten intolerant but forget and put something with gluten in a meal. 39 You live and you learn. 41

I just returned from Disney ... Mon, 7 Oct 2013 14:08:23 EST Shopping! Today I decided to spend some money on me and buy some much needed clothing. I am going to Disney World next week with my friend and her daughter and I need summer clothes. 224 I really haven't been able to go clothes shopping since I was laid off. I have been able to get a couple of pieces here and there but it isn't much. 39

On Wednesdays the local thrift store has the whole store 50% off. 244 I went early and started to find clothes. Sat, 14 Sep 2013 14:17:15 EST Adventures with underwear WARNING- possible TMI so beware! 228

Yesterday I decided that it was time to get a proper bra fitting. I hadn't had a proper fitting since I lost the weight.

Here is a little background info. About 12 years ago I had a reduction since I had horrible back pain due to having a 36FF chest. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made and always recommend women to look into it if they are in a lot of pain. After I had the surgery, I went dow... Tue, 10 Sep 2013 12:29:19 EST A new low This week has brought me to an all time low. 224 I can now fit in to a size 4 pair of pants. I can also fit into a small shirt. 9 Happy dance on that one. I never thought I would see that number. I have also never been at this low of a weight. I have been at 134.2 for about 2 weeks now. The weight isn't coming off as easily as it once did 39 . I would like to lose about 9 more pounds, but if I don't, I'm not going to get upset. I might have to rethink my eat... Fri, 30 Aug 2013 15:02:10 EST My step tracking Last year my hubby was given a pedometer as a Christmas gift from a co-worker. This was when he was actually interested in being healthy. 30 This has all recently changed. 39 Oh well, that is his decision and it is not going to stop me from being healthy. I was cleaning the other day and I found it. So, I asked him if I could have it and then I took it and set it up. Well actually, I set it up before he even said I could have it. 2 I think I chose a bad we... Sun, 18 Aug 2013 17:15:26 EST What I have learned from Sparkpeople I celebrated my 1 year Sparkiversary yesterday. 503 So much has happened during this year. Here is what I have learned while I have been here.

1. I learned that I had been over eating. I ate the wrong foods and a lot of them. 495 483 489
2. I had to relearn how to eat in a healthy manner. I had the knowledge but I needed to put it to use.
3. The only way to have safe weight loss is through exercise and eating right. Don't ... Wed, 14 Aug 2013 15:35:09 EST My personal Tough Mudder- Bike version Today I was all excited because I was able to explore different trails at the new Metropark. I did the usual route first and then I went to the new park. I took a path that led me through a river. Yes, through the river. 30 So, I went through the river. Then I had to turn around because the path ended. 40 Thanks! A notice would have been nice. Back through the river I go. Then, I decided to go along the marked trail. I thought I would take it around the park and then p... Sat, 10 Aug 2013 15:14:44 EST My bike ride in a different park Today I took a bike ride in the Lorain County Metropark system. 332 I rode my bike to Day's Dam to Bur Oak, and then to High Meadows. I then decided to try the French Creek Metropark. It was really nice. It isn't paved for the bulk of the ride. So I took my mountain bike off the pavement and on to gravel. I find it funny that I have a mountain bike as there isn't a single mountain in Ohio. 30 I have plans to go back tomorrow. There were more trails to bike and hike on.... Thu, 8 Aug 2013 13:00:48 EST My ride in the Metropark I love living in the greater Cleveland area. I am very close to museums, restaurants, the lake and tons of other things. I'm also happy to be so close to the Metropark. For those of you not from the Cleveland area, a metropark is a huge park system that is semi-connected from Cleveland and surrounding suburbs. It is usually made up of trails. Not a park that has equipment for kids to play on. Cleveland has a great one and it connects in several cities. Its nickname is the Emerald necklace. I... Tue, 30 Jul 2013 16:01:35 EST Moderation Webster defines moderation as" avoiding extremes of behavior or expression : observing reasonable limits."

Of course, this concept never entered my mind. 30 If it did I would not have allowed myself to get to 211 pounds. 15 Through Sparkpeople, I have learned how to eat in moderation. 180 I'm even learning how to have sweets in moderation. 475 The bad thing is now I need to learn how to exercise in moderation. 332
... Wed, 24 Jul 2013 13:50:57 EST What being unemployed has taught me. I have been unemployed for going on 9 months. 39 Here is what I have learned.

1. It stinks. I thought I was set as a social worker. I worked with children who were diagnosed with a mental illness. Boy, was I wrong! My agency had huge budget cuts and I was one of them. I haven't been able to find a job. I've had 12 interviews with 12 rejections. I keep plugging away and hoping that something comes soon. 41

2. It can be lonely. I am a very social ... Mon, 22 Jul 2013 15:59:06 EST What being unemployed has taught me. I have been unemployed for going on 9 months. 39 Here is what I have learned.

1. Yes, I can deny this to myself but in all actuality I am an emotional eater. 39 I never thought I was until I decided to sit down and actually take stock of my life. I had a couple of "aha" moments while I was thinking. 3 I figured out that I will emotionally eat when I am stressed or anxious. I do not eat when I am happy, sad or angry. I see this as a small victory since I am not emotionally eating for all feelings. 41

Well, things have chan... Tue, 9 Jul 2013 12:52:26 EST Today I have been cancer free for 3 years! Today is the third anniversary of my being cancer free. 244 I am really happy that I was able to get here. Here is my little story. 30

I had come to the conclusion that I did not want to have children. 176 I like kids, but I just don't want them for myself. Some people were meant to be mothers and I am not one of them. 251 Kids are needy little buggers. I like it if I have extra money in my pay check I can spend it on... you guessed ... Fri, 28 Jun 2013 15:38:33 EST My journey in the Gluten free world. I have been gluten free now for going on one year. I have to admit that I feel great. 30 Here is how it happened.

I was watching an episode of the Dr. Oz show. He had on a guest who had a gluten intolerance. She was going to show everyone how to make gluten free scones. So, I sat through the commercial to see what she had to say. She started talking about her stomach problems. Oh my goodness...those are the same problems that I have. 29 I had been diagno... Mon, 24 Jun 2013 15:16:10 EST Weight loss can be funny. It was early in the morning and my dog woke me up to tell me that he needed to go outside. 338 So I roll out of bed and I put his leash on. I walk down the stairs and I'm standing in my driveway when all of a sudden my jammy pants fall to the ground. 2 (Since I lost the weight I was laid off from my job and have been unable to afford a new wardrobe.) Luckily for me, it was 6 am. Thank goodness for 6 am and no one was out. 128

9</e... Fri, 21 Jun 2013 17:35:15 EST I love my yoga class! My local YMCA has several yoga classes. 414 Most of them have an additional fee but I found one that is free. I can afford free. 244 I am able to take it in-between spinning classes. 332 It isn't at the most ideal time for me since I would rather finish my workout day with yoga but I manage with what I have available. Well that and beggars can't be choosers.

So, today after my first spinning class and some time on the treadmill I went to the... Wed, 12 Jun 2013 15:00:29 EST How far I have come... I was on the fence about blogging about my weight loss journey. Today, I decided to do it. Today I am going to write about how far I have come.

I decided to take control of my life about a year ago. I was at my highest weight of 211 pounds. I am 5'0 and this weight was certainly taking a toll on my health. At the time, I needed to be on several blood pressure medications and I needed to watch my cholesterol. I couldn't go a day without having some kind of horrible pains in my feet.... Mon, 10 Jun 2013 15:04:13 EST
