KNITCAT1's SparkPeople Blog KNITCAT1's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community New Avatar. I go by Knitcat (or Knitkitty) on a bunch of blogs, and while the cougar filled the 'cat' part, I wanted something a bit more fitting for both parts of the name. So, I finally knitted a cat, that I have knitting.

(Cue Inception music...) 30

Wed, 3 Apr 2013 11:31:03 EST Wagon Train, HOOOOOOoooo! (I hope.) Well, I walked today. 1/4 of a mile.

Doesn't sound like much, but it IS a start. Again. I was walking about 3-4 miles a day, feeling great, but started having a nagging pain in my ankle. Which became worse.

And worse.

Until I couldn't walk without a cane.

I finally bit the proverbial bullet, and went to the Doc, who told me it was tendinitis. She sent me to a Physical Therapist. I went a couple times, then had to stop, because my Dad was h... Sun, 31 Mar 2013 15:08:34 EST Iknitarod. So, since about all that I can say on my ankle, is that it IS improving, and the exercises are not completely mind numbing, but horribly close, I will skip to another topic.

Today is the opening of the Iditarod. I am on a knitting group called Ravelry, and will be participating in the Iknitarod, which is to try and complete a project from cast on to bind off in the time it takes all the dog sledders to cross the finish. I have chosen to knit socks.

<img src="http://ph... Sat, 2 Mar 2013 13:40:48 EST Well. That is interesting, I guess. I finally decided to go to the doctor about my ankle. And it was proclaimed tendinitis. Oh, yay. The Physical Therapist told me NO WALKING for 2 weeks. NONE. DO NOT WALK. (Yes, she emphasized this several times. Even more than I did here.)

I have some exercises to do. I can do some that I already do, such as knee bends, and any upper body work. BUT NO WALKING. I can even do stationary bike, (which I hate), or swim, (which isn't readily accessible, or warm), but NO NO NO to... Fri, 15 Feb 2013 22:35:03 EST Heart smart. Aleck... Ok, I do deep knee bends as an exercise, but I call them "Sinus Rhythm" because it sounds cooler, plus it's based more or less on this...

(Sinus rhythm starts at 0:41)

But, instead of the music they use, I found one that works much better for me. However, it is probably not the best choice as far as title...

But, it motivates me... Wed, 6 Feb 2013 14:23:17 EST Hmm. Well. I have been in "winter mode" of late, it's cold, and foggy more often than not, and I just haven't had the 'get up and go' that I normally have. I have to convince myself to work out. I have had to cut back on my walking some, and use my cane, (hoping it's just my arthritis, and not something more... 39 )

So, I work in the house, with sit ups, push ups, weight lifting, that sort of thing.

What do you do when the weather is icky, and you have slim... Mon, 4 Feb 2013 21:47:54 EST Awesomeness squared! I have been working hard on my walking. I am up to 3 miles, and I have added cardio/strength stuff. I look in the mirror...

And see me.

I don't see much change. Maybe a little. I see 1 and 1/2 chins, not a double chin. That should count for something. But I look, and I still see the Costco super muffin sized muffin top, the buns that are much more cinnamon than iron, and on, and on, and on.

And then there is life. One of my friends was hospitalized, a... Fri, 18 Jan 2013 20:47:15 EST Stupid trees... And a happy dog. It was miserably foggy the other day. By miserably, it was foggy enough that I couldn't see the tree in our front yard, and it was trying ever so hard to turn to rain.

I commenced to griping. Husband, bless him, is smart enough to listen. Or it might just be his hearing loss, but he does let me vent, at any rate. I snarled, I growled, I glowered at the stupid fog. "I can't walk the road in this garbage! I can't SEE the road. People can't see ME!"

Looking up from ... Tue, 8 Jan 2013 18:16:25 EST New Year. New(er) me. I have been pretty faithful in my exercise. Not so much in some other areas of my life. But I am proud to say that I have been able to get back from my broken leg, and walk 3 miles a day 6 days a week, nearly every week. I have now added cardio/strength training 3-4 times a week. My arms are a bit sore from the weights, but I seem to be doing it okay.

Now to get to some areas in my life that have accumulated dust, metaphorically speaking. I have a story I want to write, I ha... Tue, 1 Jan 2013 20:06:46 EST Exercise. That's the good part. I am walking my three miles a day. I am enjoying walking my three miles, even.

Except...

I am in the country. Lovely scenes of nature, healthy air, all that, right? Urk.

I walk on the road from my house, and this is the walk. Turn right from driveway. Walk uphill to neighbor's where the skunk sprayed. Try and not breathe heavily. Oh, uphill. Not really an option.

Walk on, to where neighbor has cleaned out his brush patches and burned them..... Fri, 14 Dec 2012 18:17:41 EST Motivating me. Or just a kick in the butt? I have had a little bit of stress in my life the last few days. I finished a large charity project (YAY!), and then found out my Father in Law will be going in for surgery. He will be going to a hospital and needing to drive in snow.

Then my dad caught a cold. That lead to some complications, that he had to go to the doctor for, and will ALSO need surgery, after the New Year. Then yesterday, I had to do a job at the sub that I detest, with the added enjoyment of a mouthy guy ... Thu, 29 Nov 2012 18:19:15 EST Be a Star! (Or hang around one...)
So what does a cheapo ring have to do with weight loss?

A bit, as it turns out, at least for me. I was at the store, and decided I wanted a candy bar. (Great start, huh?)

I was walking to the candy section, when I passed the "gee gaws" the store has up front. I glanced down, and saw this ring. It is a 'glow in the dark mood ring'. Woo, woo... I just liked the star. So, I picked it up, and t... Fri, 16 Nov 2012 14:05:17 EST I have an odd sense of humor... I took my Mom to an outlet store, it was something she'd wanted to do for quite a bit.

So, we went into the Nike store. I found a shirt, (and kick myself for not buying it), that said, "I have one speed", with the letters all blurred like you were seeing someone fly by.

Lots of room under the logo.

I wanted to put a slow moving vehicle triangle under it, and wear it out when I exercise. I think the neighbors would get a chuckle, if nothing else...
<B... Sun, 4 Nov 2012 13:36:36 EST Hmm. Well, it didn't rain. I thought it would, but it didn't. But it's one of those things... Guess I need to correct my status.

I don't feel well. I am not "sick", that --oh, I need to go sleep for several hours, and have Husband bring me chicken soup and tea-- (unless he wants to, of course)... But I just don't feel GOOD. Sore throat, been fighting that for a few days, and achy. I had a flu shot, but what ever it is, is relatively mild. But today, I am not going to try and fight... Thu, 25 Oct 2012 14:28:35 EST Pics. Because life is boring to blog about right now... I am eating to take my Colonoscopy test. I have been eating this way for more than the prescribed time since Husband doesn't want to eat alone... So, instead of boring you with potatoes, I will show some fun scenes from faire.

The horses the two are standing in front of are carved wooden rocking horses, and they are ridable, which I did. They are moved by putting wheels where the rockers are, making them "Rock and Roll horses".

Na na na na na na na na, BAT DOG!
... Fri, 28 Sep 2012 16:02:36 EST Camping and... eep. So. I usually take my Mom someplace for her birthday. I decided to surprise her and take her camping. This became nearly as much a surprise for me as for her, as it turned out!

We went to a local campground, (read: about 10 miles from my house), and I was wowed. I am used to 'dry' camping, that is, you find a spot, and you have everything from water, power, what have you, WITH you. We decided to go 'luxury' for us, and get power and water. I felt like I was majorly woo, let m... Sat, 22 Sep 2012 15:00:22 EST Helping is for the birds! ; ) I was doing my walking today, and I saw a dove in the ditch. This is quite common this time of year, as the oats and other grasses and grains are dropping seed. Normally, I walk by, and WHOOSH, any birds nearby fly up and away.

This one didn't.

It limped, fluttered, and limped some more. I slowed, and watched... The bird was most definitely not flying.

Uh, oh.

I walked on, and checked when I came back. Yep, still there. Not good. I ruminat... Sun, 16 Sep 2012 19:49:23 EST Faire. Happy and sad. Well, I went to the ren faire, and I had fun.

And this is a rather unusual thing. I normally head up a group that is... Not fun for me. It would be, if I could count on people. But I had some real flakes, and it was getting to the point where I was not able to go see anything at faire, because I had to sit and man a booth for the whole of faire. It's one thing when you are doing this by choice, but when you end up stuck with it, it sort of loses appeal.

So, this ye... Fri, 14 Sep 2012 11:57:21 EST Off... And I will be gone for a bit, too... I will be at the Shrewsbury Renaissance Faire, (in Oregon, feel free to Google), and so I will be off line by oh, about 500 years or so for a few days. With luck, I will blog Monday or Tuesday. Wish me well, friends. I do know I will get my walking in with this "outing"!

Anon! Wed, 5 Sep 2012 20:32:41 EST Working out when you really don't want to. I got up this morning, and I had the urge to snarl. Growl. Bite someone.

Ok, not literally, but I defined "wrong side of the bed" this morning. And the odd part, nothing was wrong. I wasn't hurting, I didn't have stress, no fighting with family or spouse, all was fine in Knitcat's world.

Except that I could have gladly stomped something flat.

I managed not to snarl at Husband, (he most certainly didn't deserve it), got my 'go clothes' on, and started my... Fri, 31 Aug 2012 18:05:24 EST Feeling my way around... Well... I have been on this site a few times now, and am sort of learning how to do things (it only took me twice to figure out where MY blogging area was, rather than going to my Sparkfriends blogs... No, I am not quick on the electronic uptake, on occasion.)

I am liking what I see, for the most part, while it is a "weight loss and health" site, I am so glad to see that it takes 'real world' things into account (hello, knitting and animals, yes! Now I just need to find a Tom Pet... Sat, 25 Aug 2012 19:41:58 EST
