It's been a challenging year but a great year. Although the scales may not be quite where I'd have liked them to be at this time, I keep looking at what I have done and remind myself that the rest will come. Since surgery, the scales have come down about another 80lbs.

This week I looked back at some of the goals I set prior to surgery and to date have reached about half of them. A few weeks ago, we were ... Wed, 16 Feb 2011 10:40:33 EST First Charity Walk Completed! Well, almost 7 months out from surgery and I completed my first 5km Charity Walk to raise funds for the Parkinson's Society of Canada. It was a great day weather-wise....sunny but not too hot. There were over 300 walkers and well over $30,000 raised in one walk alone!

A year ago at this time I wouldn't have been able to do the 2km stroll (you could choose the 2km or 5km route)....just one more step towards a healthier me! Sun, 12 Sep 2010 19:39:10 EST August Update Well, I guess it's time to post another blog....hard to believe that I haven't done this since June!

It is now 6-1/2 months since my surgery. The summer has been going well. I'm now down another two sizes in most of my clothing...the latest size change I didn't even realize I'd accomplished until I had to purchase an outfit for a wedding this past weekend. That was certainly a pleasant surprise. I don't remember wearing this size in about 20 years

Since surgery, I'm ... Mon, 30 Aug 2010 13:01:13 EST Four Month Surgiversary! Wow!!!! Where did four months go?!? At almost exactly this time, four months ago today I was being wheeled into a surgical suite for a surgery that would change my life!

Since the surgery the weight loss has been slow, but I've adopted the motto of one day at a time, one foot in front of the other. For the first time I feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Although the weight loss has been slow there have been so many other added benefits - the back and... Wed, 16 Jun 2010 10:05:32 EST 100lbs Gone!!!!! Although my ticker on SP doesn't show the 100lbs that are now gone - they are from my first appointment regarding the surgery last April. Although it took an extra 2 weeks to hit my goal of 100lbs, I'm thrilled they are gone!

I've had more energy in the past few weeks than I've had in I don't know how long. When I get up in the morning I actually feel rested - what a change.

It's hard to believe that it's almost 3 months since surgery - where does time go.

... Tue, 4 May 2010 14:47:35 EST 6-week Surgiversary Wow! Where did 6 weeks go. As I write this it is almost exactly 6 weeks to the minute since I took my first post-surgery stroll through the halls. Although the scales haven't moved as much as I'd like, they have moved and I have to keep reminding myself that I've lost over 90lbs since this whole journey started less than a year ago!

It seems that the nice spring weather may be here to stay so hopefully that will keep me motivated to get outside and more active.

Hope e... Tue, 30 Mar 2010 17:24:50 EST Two weeks of the New ME! Wow, where did the past two weeks go?!? At about this time two weeks ago tonight, I was up and walking the floor at HFH for the second time since I'd arrived on the ward following surgery.

The scales have moved drastically since my final pre-surgery weigh-in but not as much as I'd hoped - of course finding out that my body doesn't like milk any longer (or at least for now) probably didn't help that any.

I'm off to see Dr. Carlin tomorrow as well as the dietician and the... Tue, 2 Mar 2010 22:40:09 EST Where did a week go!?! Well, surgery was 8 days ago - where did that time go? Oh yeah...spent a lot of that time sleeping. The diet has been progressing fairly well according to the instructions from the dietician - just having problems with the protein. What I enjoyed before right now tastes horrible....and just when I need the protein drinks the most! At least today should help a bit since I can start working in soft foods like scrambled egg and some other foods with protein. Had part of an egg for breakfast... Wed, 24 Feb 2010 14:52:30 EST Four Days Post-op Well, the surgery went according to plan and I was released on Thursday morning. Since the first day, no major pain, just discomfort from the gas they put in me that hasn't "escaped" yet.

Today is the first day on the full liquid diet and so far, so good. According to the scales, even with some of the gas in my system, I'm down about 15lbs since the Wednesday before surgery. Yahoo!

Now if the tiredness would go away, all would be great but I know that'll come. Hope e... Sat, 20 Feb 2010 14:04:59 EST It's Surgery Day Oh my's finally here! I check in to the hospital in just over an hour. So excited but nervous too.

The liquid diet for a week went well and I lost more weight - just that much less that I have to lose after.

I'll be offline for a few days but as soon as I can I will post an update. Take care everyone.

Kathi Tue, 16 Feb 2010 07:41:32 EST So excited...nervous...etc. Today was my final pre-surgery weigh-in with the surgeon. Surgery will proceed as planned on the 16th. Yeah. This has been a year in coming so I can't wait to see the changes to come.

Now to enjoy a few days at the farm show - lots of walking.

Hope everyone has a great week. Wed, 10 Feb 2010 18:19:48 EST One Day to Final Pre-surgery Weigh-in Where did three and a half months go? It seems like just yesterday I was given my surgery date and now I'm just a week away and have my final weigh-in on Wednesday morning. Today starts the liquid diet so the fridge has been cleared of the things that I can't have.

Now the nerves are starting to set in and I'm starting to get a little worried about the surgery. Not that I don't have faith in my surgeon and his entire team.

I must be crazy to be going on vacation for p... Tue, 9 Feb 2010 01:08:11 EST It's a great day! For the first time in this journey, I've been able to weigh myselft at home...and I've now surpassed (at least according to my scales) what I needed to lose prior to surgery! In fact, even another extra pound! It's been so frustrating lately since I hadn't been able to find out if I was on track but I guess I have my answer now!

Can't wait to see how much further the scales move between now and my weigh-in in a couple of weeks. Thu, 28 Jan 2010 23:39:44 EST Another Good day! Well, the sun is shining so it's been a day that's easier to get moving. Didn't yet get my 10 miles on the bike in but have done 7 and did an extra 6 minutes on it than I'd planned. 244

Guess I better get some more cleaning done so it's one less thing to worry about following surgery Tue, 19 Jan 2010 16:34:49 EST Another day down Another great day...kept my calories down, carbs within reason and protein up. Plus I managed to do 10 miles on the stationary bike! That's a first in a lot of years! Go me! (Sorry for the pat on the back but I need to learn to be nicer to myself.) Now to do it again tomorrow.

Surgery is now less than a month away...oh boy. Still trying all the various protein supplements to find something I like. Still have more to try.

2010 is my year to look after me and becom... Mon, 18 Jan 2010 19:36:39 EST One Month to Scheduled Surgery Day Hard to believe that the long awaited RNY surgery is scheduled for one month from today. Althoguh I got a bit off track over Christmas, I'm hoping that I'm back on track and on my way to meeting the weight loss goal that the surgeon set for me. Back in November I was over 1/2 way there. Now the countdown really begins. Sat, 16 Jan 2010 19:23:48 EST
