Sun, 17 Mar 2013 19:14:35 EST Zuchinni-how on earth???????????? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5040249 We started with 2 plants in the garden this spring and wow!! We have more zuchinni than I know what to do with. I've been giving it away and I still have so many.............I made a couple of new recipes this morning. Does anyone have a tasty recipe made with zuchinni that they would be willing to share? I just haven't found some that I would make again. Sat, 1 Sep 2012 16:52:14 EST Kevin Costner http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4960293 I just saw an advertisement that Kevin Costner and his band will be playing at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake this coming Friday. I am a fan of Costner's but have never heard him sing or play. Has anyone? And if so, would you recommend going to his gig? I am considering purchasing a ticket, but don't want to spend the cash to be disappointed. If you have an opinion, I would really like to hear it. 335 276 Sun, 8 Jul 2012 10:00:17 EST Less sugar-More energy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4868800 I am just about to complete my second week of decreasing my sugar intake. The first week was all about tracking my sugar intake and taking inventory of my diet in relationship to sugar. I realized that I am NOT a sugar junkie as previously thought. My problem is craving something sweet once per day. My most difficult time of the day is evening. Which means that alot of my craving is psychological or out of boredom, since sweet treats surround much of my work day.
This second week,... Sun, 6 May 2012 11:44:36 EST So Nice! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4852365 Today at work, we were treated to lunch at the Country Club( in our small town) for Administrative Professional Day. We can also get a complimentary chair massage before or after our lunch. When finished eating, they told us to check underneath our plates for a sticker. If you had one, you could choose from a gift certificate for a massage or a spring plant in a pot. It was a nice chance to visit with other professionals and we enjoyed ourselves--what a nice break in our busy day! I woul... Wed, 25 Apr 2012 21:24:52 EST Asleep At The Wheel http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3512964 I had a great time at the infamous Surf Ballroom (last concert of Buddy Holly) last night watching and dancing to Asleep At The Wheel. If you haven't heard of them, they are a long time Country Western /Swing band and the lead guitarist Ray Benson was an excellent performer and musician. The whole group was funny, witty and loved the audience and their support. If you haven't seen them in concert, I highly recommend buying a ticket--you will love them! 104 250 Sat, 7 Aug 2010 16:19:30 EST Father's Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3354173 I truly enjoyed being with my Dad today honoring his special day. I live 5 hours away from my parents and they always appreciate my "trips" home to visit with them. My parents are both in their 70's, and I cherish each day that I can still spend with them. We have been through much throughout the years, and we have an even closer relationship the older we get. With age, we certainly appreciate our parents much more than when we were younger. It is hard for me to see my parents age. Some... Sun, 20 Jun 2010 23:38:55 EST Have you seen it? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3311031 I drove back home over the weekend to surprise my sister for her birthday. I have three sisters, I am the eldest at 51, the youngest is 44. My mom, who is 71, was there too and we spent Sunday as a girls day out--lunch at a new restaurant nobody had been to before and then to see the chick flick-Sex in the City 2. I saw the first one and thought it very funny and clever. Samantha really cracks me up-such a mature, sex crazed woman! Well, in the second one, she is going through menopause.... Mon, 7 Jun 2010 19:57:03 EST Fridays http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3300968 I thank God for Fridays. No matter how horrible the week has been, when Friday rolls around, you can just step back, take a deep breathe and relax. For me, Fridays are very relaxing by the time I get home after work. The thought of the weekend puts a smile upon my face. I think about all the things I want to accomplish over the weekend. Sometimes, I don't have much on my agenda and that's ok too! I then spend most of the time catching up on reading materials, exercise and some good movi... Fri, 4 Jun 2010 15:55:34 EST Preparing for lunch-Results http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3146661 I did very well, chose fresh fruit salad and very small amounts of other salads. I even passed on dessert. The best part was the massage-for some lucky reason, I was the last one finished. Mine had lasted the longest and everyone asked how I got so lucky? I even received a card for $10.00 off my next 2 massages!! I think I will book one as my next reward for a goal that I reach. I had a nice day and I hope that you all did as well. Wed, 21 Apr 2010 21:46:40 EST Preparing for lunch http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3144080 Today is Administrative Professionals Day and we are treated to lunch at the Country Club. Our company includes the entire office staff which is wonderful! This year, they are offering complimentary massages (on the chair) while we are there. So, I am putting all my SparkPeople knowledge I have gained in preparing to stay on track today. I had a healthy breakfast of steel cut oatmeal with a few sliced almonds, half a small banana and soy milk. I will have a light snack of greek yogurt ar... Wed, 21 Apr 2010 09:31:36 EST Night at the Races http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3132657 What a fun night we had! We had gotten free tickets to one of our local raceways from a supplier that sponsored the races last night. Once in the gates, we had complimentary seats in the sky box over looking the track. Lots of yummy food and appetizers!! I did have an apple and some yogurt on the way to the track, so I was able to eat sensibly. I had just a bite or two of the roast beef and meatballs and ate slowly from the veggie tray. I drank water. I won a combo of a coffee maker an... Sun, 18 Apr 2010 12:31:24 EST Olympic Excitement http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2921813 I have been watching the Olympics and I am just in awe at the physical strength and endurance these athletes display. Those of us at SparkPeople who train for running events or any competition of various kinds, can appreciate the training it takes to get ready for competition. When you hear the stories of how some of these athletes have gotten there, to me, it's just amazing. I get excited just being able to exercise--especially since I have been side lined with a back injury. Some of th... Wed, 24 Feb 2010 10:59:19 EST Early signs of Spring http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2908219 Has anyone noticed that the sunshine is beginning to melt some of the many inches of snow we have? The days are getting longer. I have even noticed more birds in the morning--activity as well as song. These are welcome signs and just maybe we'll see an early Spring? We can only hope after the rough winter it has been. I'm ready, how about you? Sun, 21 Feb 2010 09:35:14 EST !#$*%#!! Thyroid http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2907064 I have been dealing with a thyroid problem for a long time, but today it has really taken a toll on me. I just feel so defeated because even though I know why I'm so tired, and keep gaining weight, etc., I have to be patient until we find the right medication and dosage. Some days are worse than others, but today just seemed to be the worst. So I figure if I write down my feelings and frustrations, it might help how I'm feeling. I hope tomorrow will be a brighter day! Sat, 20 Feb 2010 22:06:29 EST It's arrived!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2711912 I received my copy of the Spark which I ordered seems so long ago!! I can't wait to begin reading it. I quickly thumbed through the pages (but was at work, so I had to put it away) and now at home, had too many things to accomplish before bedtime. It will be a good weekend to begin reading--supposed to be cold and snowy again.................. Thu, 7 Jan 2010 21:16:03 EST A Very Different Kind of Christmas http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2654420 Well, it's Christmas eve and all of our plans have been cancelled due to the weather. We live in Northeast Iowa, and have received alot of snow during the day and evening hours but also, rain which has turned into ice as the temperatures fluctuate back and forth. It has made travel pretty much impossible, at least not worth the chance of getting to your destination safely as well as getting back! So spending the Eve with my husband's family has been moved to a week from Saturday. My son i... Thu, 24 Dec 2009 17:36:16 EST Holidays http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2614116 The holidays can make people feel many different ways. Some may be sad, remembering a loved one or friend that is no longer here to spend them with. Some may be happy, all the activity bringing joy to their soul. Some may feel excitement, just the thought of Santa and his reindeer. Some may feel love, sharing their time with people they care about. Some may feel appreciation, donating their time to a local charity or organization in need of help.
I am so appreciative for all that I ... Sun, 6 Dec 2009 12:33:12 EST Back in the Saddle http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2599575 I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I sure did. I am blessed with a wonderful family and circle of friends. I live over 4 hours apart from my family, so the holidays mean traveling "home" to spend time with the family. This year was no exception, but the weather sure was. Travel was great, the roads were clear and dry. There is always lots of good food as well. And so, I did eat more than I should have. I didn't miss a day of exercise however, so that keeps me positive. Now... Mon, 30 Nov 2009 21:14:43 EST Blood profile results http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2550904 A little background is needed to understand my results. My colesterol was high ten years ago, so I had been on Lipitor for many years. When I was first diagnosed with high cholesterol, my eating habits weren't so great and I was a smoker. Just this year, my insurance decided it would not cover Lipitor any longer, so I figured it would be a good time to stop taking the Lipitor and see if my reading went up. Since I was diagnosed with high cholesterol at such an early age, we didn't know fo... Tue, 10 Nov 2009 16:45:48 EST Health screenings http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2532085 Once a year, during work, we can opt to participate in a Blood Profile for ourselves. Today was the day. You fast the night before, no eating or drinking after 7 pm. and get your blood drawn the next morning at work. The profile consists of 23 tests, including chloresterol, blood glucose, iron, calcium, etc. We have the result within a few days and can take those results to our Dr. Ranges out of normal limits are flagged. The best part of all, the cost is only $ 20.00 I participate eve... Tue, 3 Nov 2009 19:19:26 EST Happy Halloween http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2525683 I went to visit my family this past weekend and had a wonderful time. We celebrated some birthdays, dressed up for Halloween, and spent quality time together. It was truly rewarding. It's always so good to return home and wind down to the beginning of a new week. Sun, 1 Nov 2009 20:29:22 EST Yardwork http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2494053 This time of year, there is so much to be done outside in order to prepare for the winter months. It almost makes a person tired just thinking about it. Last weekend, we raked leaves, cleaned out the flower beds, put summer items away, and began to get the garden cleaned out for winter. Lots of squash this year and potatoes, as well as onions. They store well for the winter. I love this time of the year! Tue, 20 Oct 2009 13:46:19 EST Feeling great http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2448884 Well, I've been working at this for a little over a month now, and I finally lost a pound. These last ten are so very difficult. As I keep exercising, the muscle weight keeps me from losing but I am determined. I feel better and that is important. To everyone out there, keep on going!!
