Sat, 7 Dec 2013 10:36:27 EST Upcoming Races I am sitting on the train from Philadelphia to Washington DC, on my way to my 3rd Half Marathon in my quest to run 13 in 2013!
My first was a Virtual Half, I ran it for my Barking Mad About Breast Cancer Virtual Race, which raised over $1000 for Susan G Komen! It took 2:36 to complete.

My second race was the E Murray Todd Half Marathon in Lincroft NJ. I ran it with my friend Eileen. It is a super ... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 16:21:51 EST Trenton Double Cross 10K This weekend is a crazy busy weekend for me! Sunday I am running the Veteran's Day Virtual 11K, for the second time. Last year was the Inaugural, and the medal and tee were awesome! This year will be even better! I got my bib, and once I report my time they will send me my tee and medal!

So let's talk about the Trenton Double Cross Inaugural Half Marathon and10K. I drove to Trenton on Friday to pick up my jacke... Sun, 11 Nov 2012 08:08:17 EST After Sandy, Voting, and some Running The last week has been a rough one. Every day I hear about another friend or neighbor who lost *everything*. On Saturday, I attempted my longest run, 15 miles. I got dressed in layers and planned an out and back run for the first leg, and planned to stop home for a drink and to strip off the top layer. Then I would run the second leg, a loop around town. Great plan, right?
I started out on the first leg, one of my favorite routes because it is a straight 4 miles out, for an 8 mile total ... Tue, 6 Nov 2012 08:16:01 EST Hershey Half Marathon Our day started Saturday with a long ride to Hershey, Pennsylvania. By the time we dropped the dogs at the kennel and drove to Hershey, almost 4 hours had been spent in the car!
We went right to the expo, which was pretty small, and got my bib, tech tee, and other goodies. I got a new SpiBelt: waterproof, GU belts, and the extra little noogies that you use to attach your bib. (noogies is an industry term, lol, I use it for any small object!)
We also stopped at BondiBands to get a c... Tue, 23 Oct 2012 16:49:00 EST NYRR Staten Island Half Yesterday was the Staten Island Half Marathon, a race I looked forward to for a few months, and the second of three I entered to earn my Half Fanatic status! I was going into this race intending to finish, and not really concerned about finising well. I plan to train for next year's Halfs with the intention of PRing. I did get two good nights' sleep on Thursday and Friday because I knew how Saturday night would go: badly! I was correct! Up every couple hours checking the clock! I had to get u... Mon, 8 Oct 2012 14:17:56 EST Brielle Day Hill and Dale Challenge 10K Sounds ominous, right?
Every local knows about Brielle's notorious neighborhood hills! 6.2 miles of crazy steep hills! All week long, they hinted about how hard this race is at my local Running Club's facebook page. My only worry was the Rock n Roll Philly Half in 8 days. I didn't want to wear myself out, but I was determined to beat this race! Going in, my only other 10K was a mostly flat local run that I did for a virtual race, and took me about 1:15. I went into this race hoping to c... Sat, 8 Sep 2012 18:40:51 EST Color Run NYC The excitement started yesterday when I prepped our shirts for the Color Run. Team Pride was ready to rock!
We woke up entirely too early in the morning to drive into Brooklyn. That's right, Color Run "NYC" was in Brooklyn, lol. It took about 90 minutes to get there, but we didn't hit traffic until the last 3 miles, so it was pretty painless. Well, other than the ridiculously early time, lol. My son and daughter were supposed to come too, but my son bailed at the last minute, the little ... Sat, 25 Aug 2012 16:04:32 EST Looking Back One Year.... This very date last year I began running for the first time. I had been in training to walk the 3 Day and my team mate, who I thought was my best friend, decided we were not friends anymore. It was one month away from our walk in DC. She went. I stayed home. I just couldn't imagine going with her, sleeping in the same tent, when she had decided to hate me. I am still not sure what brought it on. I know she was unhappy. Our training walks were filled with her complaints and nasty comments abou... Sun, 19 Aug 2012 12:19:37 EST Fun new way to journal I got this idea from WW magazine! Check out my new food journal!

What do you think? Tue, 14 Aug 2012 22:42:01 EST Runyon 5K at Yankee Stadium This was no ordinary 5K! My husband and I drove to the Bronx this morning, to the new Yankee Stadium. It was a pretty easy drive, and we got there with no hiccups! I got my number and got in line for my heat.

My hubby went back upstairs to wait for me to finish. The view for him? Not so bad!

My heat started, and we did 2 laps a... Sun, 12 Aug 2012 16:28:11 EST MudManX MudManX
Today I conquered MudManX, a 5 mile mud run with some seriously crazy obstacles! I will be including some photos, but they are stock photos, not from today's event. When I get my photos, I will post them! At the end of this blog, I will post the 2 I got from Rugged Maniac two weeks ago!

I went to this one alone again, but I was lucky enough to meet Katie, a 21 year old college student from Howell, who was also alone. She said she would tag along and I was so glas for ... Sat, 28 Jul 2012 16:28:59 EST Rugged Maniac This was hands down, the toughest thing I have done to date! Give me a Half anytime! I was suppoed to go with my friend, but she wasn't feeling good, so off I went by myself. The check in was pretty easy, got my tee, my number and my shoe tag. Checked my bag, which took a little longer, and headed off to my heat. I didn't have to wait long, and made friends with a group of girls and their moms who were so nice! You couldn't see much of the course except the last obstacle and the *fire* WOOT! ... Sat, 14 Jul 2012 18:42:18 EST Firecracker Five What a beautiful day for a race!

NOT!

It was muggy and hot when we arrived and it just stopped storming. I got there just in time to get my cute tee and my number and line up.

The sun did come out briefly at the start, and I regretted leaving my sunglasses in the car. The race started, and the clouds moved in and soone it was raining. The rain felt amazing.... Wed, 4 Jul 2012 12:39:52 EST Running on Vacation My family and I are on an RV trip from New Jersey to Yellowstone, Wyoming. After a rough start, leaving 5 hours late, and not sleeping much the first couple days, we finally landed in South Dakota and got a full night's sleep! I went for a quick run yesterday morning before the kids woke up, and the view was amazing!

Unfortunately, we were over 3000 feet up and I live at sea level, so it was a rough 1.9 miles! <BR... Sun, 24 Jun 2012 09:09:20 EST Father's Day 5K Today I ran a 5K in my hometown in memory of a friend who passed after a battle with melanoma. This is the second year they held the race in his honor, and the race itself has passed by my house every year we have lived here! I finally got a chance to run in it!
It was a beautoful day for a race, just a little bit too warm, but otherwise perfect!

The first 5 minutes were rough, my pace was great, but I forgot t... Sat, 16 Jun 2012 20:23:53 EST Virtual 10K Fundraiser I am hosting a fundraiser for Susan G Komen, a virtual 10k. You run the 10K on your own, sometime around August 16th (one month before I run the Phialdephia Rock n Roll Half to benefit Susan G Komen Marathon for a Cure) and for a donation of $20 you receive a medal. Mon, 4 Jun 2012 19:55:16 EST Spring Lake Five Let me start by saying that it was beautiful and breezy when we left the house. I wore my running skirt and a tank, and we took the train to avoid traffic. It was a half mile walk to the start, and the closer we got, the hotter it got. What?!?! It was at the beach!
10,000 Runners. 10K. CRAZY! I waited on line for the potty before the start just in case. The line was loooooong.

Over to the start with the m... Sat, 26 May 2012 15:52:50 EST Beach to Bay 5K Okay, let me start this by saying that I *know* I am supposed to take a couple weeks off after running a Half Marathon. It was great having her there until the start, a huge stress reliever! She went to her corral, one ahead of mine, and I went to my corral. It was SO exciting! Our wave finally started and we were off!
The race started at the Monmouth Racetrack, and wound through Long Branch to the beach. The first mile was a little crazy, pe... I met MLeblanc at registration, where we got our drawstring backpacks and tech shirts, and prepped for the race. Sun, 22 Apr 2012 13:14:13 EST Rebel Race 5K mud run What a great day! It started with my first 5K, at Blue Claws Stadium. Beautiful weather, started in front of the stadium and ended just before home plate. I started too fast, and my leg was sore from climbing a lighthouse the day before, so I slowed down the last mile and finished in 33 minutes. If I didn't have the Rebel race afterwards, I might have PRd!

The Rebel Race was amazing! Not too muddy because it has been very dry here, but the obstacles were challenging! We had to mili... Mon, 16 Apr 2012 07:58:51 EST Celtic Tribute 5K I ran a 5K this morning that benefits a scholarship fund in the name of Fallen Officers. There was a tear jerker speech beforehand (my Dad is a retired cop, this stuff hits home hard!) and we were started off by the Motorcycle Cops revving their engines!

It started off great, lots of kids and families, beautiful day. Sat, 7 Apr 2012 17:04:04 EST My first long race You hear all of those jokes about walking uphill to school, in the snow, both ways, and you laugh....but that is how that race felt! Let me start at the beginning though!

Last week I ran a few short runs, but I was tapering for the big 10 mile race at the Ocean Drive Marathon. I got up bright and early on Saturday and Jon and I headed to Cape May for the second time this weekend. At big races, you *have* to pick your bib up the day before. Jon dropped me off at the start and ... Sun, 26 Feb 2012 20:05:38 EST Quick blog before bed! Crazy day! Work til 3, quick 40 minute run, off to take my daughter an audition, that lasted 3 hours, now off to bed!
The run was great, a bit chilly, but great, and now i am off til Saturday's long run. Friday night is my ball class tho, which I LOVE. My eating was great too, even when we had to run out to a restaurant before callbacks. Wed, 18 Jan 2012 21:27:08 EST Being Selfish! I guess this is one way to look at it! Let me explain :)
I have a very hard time putting myself first. I plan to go to the gym today, and my yoga class is tonight. I LOVE my yoga class, one of the best times all week!
BUT
I am supposed to talk about an event tonight at Girl Scouts though, and they kinda intersect. Of course my first instinct is: I guess I will get my run in, and just skip yoga. After all, I *have* to speak about this event. (actually, I really don't, it is the... Tue, 17 Jan 2012 15:45:49 EST Started week 3 today! Only 10 weeks to go until my 10 miler and 6 weeks after that is my half marathon! Crazy!
Today's run was 45 minutes, and it is still really colf here so I did it on the TM. After about 10 minutes my shin started to *really* hurt, so I stopped to stretch it, but it took another 10 before the kink came out and I could run pain free. I got in 3.5 miles which is not great, but not the end of the world either.
Not too long ago I would have just stopped, but I was determined to finish! It... Mon, 16 Jan 2012 15:24:45 EST Gotta Love a Rest Day Today is a rest day, nothing but football and laundry here today! The scale was unkind to me today but I ate well enough yesterday, so maybe tomorrow will be a better day.
Go GIANTS! Sun, 15 Jan 2012 07:57:21 EST Been awhile! Still running! WOW! Almost two weeks! I have been blogging on an outside site and neglecting my Sparkers! I have been running, I have run 6 short runs and a long run, and have a long run today. Everything in that respect is going amazingly! My goal is to keep up the runs, as well as some toning. I plan to take yoga once a week and a cardio ball class that also has 20 minutes of toning. You get a lot of shoulder, arms, and thigh toning done during the cardio portion as well. I really sweat buckets in there a... Sat, 14 Jan 2012 08:32:56 EST After the holidays.....looking back I have heard that most people game between 5 and 10 pounds during the Holiday season! I checked my weight at Thanksgiving and it was about 170. Since then I managed to lose 4 pounds.....and gain them back. BUT I promised myself that on January 2nd I would weigh no more than I did on Thanksgiving.
I didn't feel the need to keep losing, although that would be nice, I just wanted to maintain. This morning I weighed in at 169.8 so technically I did lose, lol. I ate some things that normall... Mon, 2 Jan 2012 10:51:31 EST Happy New Year I am ready for a bright, healthy, beautiful 2012!
I resolve to complete 2 half marathons, one ten miler, and numerous 5Ks. I also plan to register for a 2013 full marathon before the year is out! I may not do them well, but I will do them!
I never thought I would be a runner, but I am really starting to love it! I LOVE the way I feel after I have finished a run. I have had a bad cold since Christmas Day, and the 2 days that I ran I actually felt better for a little while! I am so gl... Sat, 31 Dec 2011 15:34:37 EST My new running gadgets! Merry Christmas to me! UPS brought me my new ipod and heart rate monitor watch today! My old ipod is still okay, but the battery isn't fabulous, so it runs low after one long use. Hopefully this new one will have better power! I used my watch today for a 30 minute run, and it gave me my heart rate (max and average) and how long I ran in each zone (fat burning and fitness). I have to figure it all out, but it was fun to see how much was in the fitness zone (most of it) and how much in the fat ... I have been planning on the half marathon in September, and will do a bunch of 5Ks during the year, but I have 2 more significant runs to my schedule.
The first is a 10 mile run in March, which actually comes at a perfect time in my training. I had planned for this to be an event that will show me how much training I will need for September. ... Sat, 26 Nov 2011 23:14:14 EST Winter 5% Challenge...Dec. He served in the late 60s in the Coast Guard. Luckily, he spent his time on ships in peaceful areas, no war for him. As an American though, I still felt like I needed to do something besides sharing meaningful pictures on facebook, so at the last minute I signed up to do an 11K, virtually. There were no local events, so I got my Under Armour on (40 degrees and WINDY here at the shore) and set off to run my 11K.
Let me say here that I have NEVER done more than 4.5 mi... Fri, 11 Nov 2011 19:59:32 EST TGIF Today is th end of my first week of working full days (well, 6 hours, but I don't get a lunch break, I eat with the kids). I am very tired! I hope to go to piloxing tonight, but if I am still tired and achey I will do it at home tomorrow morning. I have to run today, and that comes first!
Hubby suddenly decided he could stay home longer in the morning so that I could go to the gym, but I feel like that could bite me in the butt so I am going to stick with my original plan of working out... Fri, 4 Nov 2011 07:08:15 EST What support system? I was watching the Biggest Loser last night, and the contestants were talking about having help at home. It made me think about my husband. He always tells me how great I look, and notices when I have lost weight or inches. However.
He brings me home chocolate from trips or if he thinks I had a bad day.
He brings home cake when he goes to a restaurant at lunch.
He insists on eating at restaurants that make eating well very hard.
He refuses to eat certain low fat foods, mak... Halloween, that is!
431
After the 133 Trick or Treaters came and went, I took down some of the decorations as the kids told us about their night. Nothing too crazy, but tons of candy. My daughter has braces so she gave me all of her tootsie rolls, and I ate a snickers yesterday. The tootsie rolls are in a bowl in the kitchen to be eaten slooooooowly.
No exercise yesterday. I am the candy patrol every year, so I didn't even try to workout. I had hoped to go roght aft... Tue, 1 Nov 2011 06:57:03 EST Halloween Parade What an exciting day yesterday! My husband and I walked our dogs in the Halloween Parade yesterday. We wore Hawaiian shirts and they were characters from the Jimmy Buffet song, Fins. They were the shark and the bait.

It was such a good time, the kids all LOVED them! There were 3 other dogs in the parade, and they give prizes to the best 3, so we figured we wouldn't win. We were hoping for a consolation toy or ... Mon, 31 Oct 2011 08:44:38 EST Monster Dash

Don't we look happy? That is because we are dry! The race was still held, although the course was shortened due to puddles. Sat, 29 Oct 2011 12:56:56 EST The Monster Dash 5K is today...and it is rainy! I woke up to the sound of pouring rain and a sinus headache. UGH!
Today is the Monster Dash 5K at our boardwalk, and I have been looking forward to this since early September! The rain has slowed down, thank God, and hopefully it will stay that way! I am going with a friend and meeting up with fellow Sparkers, so it better lay up at least long enough to take pictures.
My Biggest Loser weigh in was yesterday. I am down another 1.4 for a total of 2.4 in 3 weeks. Yuck, but better than ... Sat, 29 Oct 2011 07:41:06 EST Aspartame is the devil! I have made a horrible discovery this week! Aspartame, which is in my all time fave Diet Pepsi, gives me stomach pain. Serious full on cramped up stomach pain. I am devastated. I don't drink, have never tried drugs or cigarettes of any kind, all I have is my addiction to diet soda. Last week, a couple of days before my period, I started getting cramps. Or so I thought! After 8 days of pain, I realized that the cramps were from the soda! I came to the realization yesterday after I drank nothin... Fri, 28 Oct 2011 08:39:45 EST Started 10K training I finally moved up with my training. I didn't finish C25K, but I will be doing a 5 mile Turkey Trot on November 19th and I wanted to be ready. Yesterday was Day 1, and while it was longer time-wise, it was much slower. I sped it up myself, since I have a 5K on Saturday, but will be doing the actual plan once the 5K is over. I didn'y think the extra 10 minutes would matter but my hips were sore last night and my lower back hurts a bit today. Hopefully it won't take long to adjust! I am so thri... Mon, 24 Oct 2011 07:40:51 EST OUCH! Piloxing on Friday was amazingly fun. The instructor actually got certified thru Viveca, so it was taking the DVD class Live. Very cool. I was so sweaty and tired and my triceps still hurt. The instructor let me use a pair of her weighted gloves, which really intensified it.
Zumba was supposed to be today, but I have been miserable crampy the last few days and was up almost all night in pain.
