Sometimes just little things, but they all add up. Took my dishes out of the cabinet yesterday and placed them all in a nice display on the counter. If they look nice people might buy them. Who knows. When I talked to the man who will conduct the estate sale he said something I keep thinging about "we'll have no problem throwing things into the dumpster"
What was special or meaningful to me, well y... This is great news.
He sleeps most of the time because his lung capacity is only at 22% or less. Everything makes him tired.
He is now on steroids which should help him gain weight and give him an appitite. He weighted in at 105 today.
Grateful for each day we have together. He's down to 105 lbs, although he has always been thin you can see the weight loss on him. The steroids will make him put on weight and increase his appetite.
They say he has a 50/50 chance of... Tue, 23 Apr 2013 22:46:17 EST Ash Wednesday Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the time in the Catholic Church when you give up something or do something for Lent.
I look forward to Lent because for some reason I seem to stick to whatever I say I'm going to do. Of course I do have a few loop holes. I can still eat donuts and only have to do what ever I picked for 6 out of 7 days. The fact that I know it will end at some point makes it easier and I do pick up some good habits. One year I gave up red meat. To this day I still eat less. Anot... Tue, 12 Feb 2013 22:42:55 EST Tonight's my last meal Colonoscopy Tuesday AM. No food after 6PM tonight. liquids all day tomorrow. All I can think of is food. I was very tired before this last abliation and tried not to do too much or my heart might jump into Afib. All that has changed. I am a new woman. I'll be 70 in March and I want it to be my best year yet. Mon, 17 Sep 2012 23:31:40 EST A penny a calorie Hunger is a lot in the news lately, both here in the US and around the world.
I am very good with numbers and budgets.
I decided to put myself on a cash for calorie budget. I have $16.00 a day to spend on food. That's one penny for one calorie. If this was real I could not over spend because I would have any money left therefore I could not purchase anymore calories.
I started yesterday. I kept within my calorie range. No matter how hungry I get at night I don't have any ... Mon, 2 Apr 2012 10:27:56 EST New Year I am looking forward to the new year.
Different approach.
I'll try doing more healthier things, instead of less unhealthy things Sat, 31 Dec 2011 16:45:18 EST where are my blogs? I spend my winters in Florida and my summers in VT.
VT is my home.
It was starting to get hot in Florida before we left so I would get up early and go for my morning bike ride. 45min to an hour. Where we live is a great place to ride as there is few cars (quite a few golf carts) and the speed limit is 20 MPH. I can ride around the small man made lakes and the parking lots covered by giant Great Oaks(shade).
We brought our bikes home a few... Wed, 6 Jul 2011 13:49:40 EST Another Parade Day Westford VT had it's parade today. Twice around the common, took 19 minutes.
Good time had by all.
After over eating at the Waterbury Parade, I calmed it down today, only had a hot dog at the parade. A fruit smoothie when I got home from some of the watermelon and fruit we had left over.
Why i over eat is a mystery to me it took me almost 36 hours to get back to feeling normal Mon, 4 Jul 2011 14:34:52 EST Still full a day later Yesterday was the 4th of July parade day in our town. The parade goes right by our house. We had tons of food and a good time was had by all.
It was an eat day for me. Bad, bad, bad. Had no breakfast. Started munching on celery and dip and continue up until right before bed with cake and ice cream (which I did not even enjoy
My body was bloated all day and still feel exhausted. Why do I do this?
Thankfully I do not do it that often.
Tomorrow's another day. Sun, 3 Jul 2011 20:41:32 EST Home at Last Arrived home yesterday.
Just spent 15 min writing this blog and it disappeared off my screen.
I'll catch you up tomorrow Tue, 7 Jun 2011 19:29:31 EST Which is worse Heading back to VT the question always come up
Hot or cold?
The heat of Florida summers or the cold of VT winters?
We try to get the best of both worlds by being SNOWBIRDS. VT(which is our home) in the summer and Florida in the winter.
Looking at the weather in my sister's town of So. Hadley MA I see it's going to be 91 tomorrow, It will only be 90 here in Florida. Looked in this page and realized I have been out of the picture for 5 months.
I'll come back tomorrow and fill in the gaps. Thu, 19 May 2011 23:24:47 EST Worried about VT in Florida Our house in Waterbury is still not rented for the winter. We rent out the first floor for the winter while we are in Florida. I keep checking the temps and worry about pipes freezing.
We have someone checking the house daily but I still worry.
It's a 10 room house and we use the whole house while we are there. This is pushing us to have the second floor made into an apartment. We have been working on this for a few years.
It WILL be rented by the time we leave for Florida i... Wed, 8 Dec 2010 15:19:06 EST New knees working Went for a 20 min. walk with my husband tonight, then I just kept going.
Some days, or nights in my case, I just feel like walking. I walked for 63 minutes. pretty good considering 3 years ago this month I couldn't walk for 10 minutes. That was the month I got my double knee replacement.
It was a beautiful night, still a lot of clouds after our rain storm today. In all that time I only saw 5 cars. One of the perks of living in a retirement community, Gated and everyone is in thei... Sat, 27 Nov 2010 00:29:00 EST Big Trouble with FaceBook I have canceled my FaceBook account. Someone hacked into my ID and was sending out Facebook messages in my name. Attached were web sites to visit. My grandson alerted me to it. Sent me an Email asking me if this was some sort of a scam. Not knowing what he was talking about I signed onto Facebook. There they were messages I did not send.
Sent out Emails telling friend and family not to open anything from me. My sister-in-law wrote back saying " I guess those porn photos were not from yo... Mon, 22 Nov 2010 23:02:41 EST Another busy week-end Had a good week-end
Eye exam on Friday, everything Ok. Same time next year.
Sat. put in some more flowers and worked on one of my quilts. Went to the Festival of Trees at the Orlando Museum of Art. They sell everything that is on display. One of the pre-decorated Christmas trees smiled at me. It was beautiful. The last day of the show was today. The tree was pretty expensive. I offered them half of the selling price. They like to sell everything and only had one day left . They acc... Mon, 22 Nov 2010 00:11:07 EST Last Day of Food and Wine Show Didn't think we were going to make it to the food and wine show at Disney, but we did.
Had a little taste of this and a little taste of that. My favorite was the lamb chop followed by the lamb slider. Apple dumpling with vanilla soft serve at the American Pavilion was enjoyed while waiting for the show "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
A great night with friends and of course the food and wine. All food was portioned controlled.
I think I might even have stayed with-in my calorie limit. <... Sun, 14 Nov 2010 20:40:55 EST Where did the day go? Never made it to the health club today. Hard to believe I was busy all day. projects in the AM. Volunteer Shift in the afternoon and it rained a tonight. Did get to get in a 16 minute walk with my husband. Tomorrow's another day. Did manage to lose 1 lb. Tue, 2 Nov 2010 23:18:05 EST Been a good Day So far today, and it's night, I have had a good day. Exercised, stayed within my calorie range, finished my block for tomorrow's quilt club meeting and spoke with my sister. The biggie, I will be off the computer by 11PM Sun, 31 Oct 2010 22:52:41 EST Broke 180 After 3 days of weighting 179.5 I can safely say I broke 180.
I think it has been at least 25 years since I have seen this number on the scale. Something just seem to click in me. Now I am exercising and walking more and eating smaller meals more often. Using the food chart and seeing how many calories are in things helps a lot. Of course I don't see the calories until after I eat it but it helps for the next time. Thu, 28 Oct 2010 15:53:43 EST Hot Day in Florida Did not make it to the health club today. Too hot.
90 today, felt like 94. Did manage to get in a 20 min walk this AM, felt like I sweated out 4 lbs or more. Very humid. I feel guilty when I don't do anything.
But today we just went to John's pullmanary Dr. and hung around the house for the rest of the day.
Started working on a quilt block for my new quilt. It was a good thing this was a practice block as I cut the material wrong. had to add a 1 1/2 inch piece to 4 pieces. ca... Wed, 27 Oct 2010 23:27:20 EST Eating better My meal planning seems to be good for only 2 days at a time. We are doing much better at eating smaller meals more often. Same calories spread over the day. My sugar is going down. I think it's the smaller portions.
We went to see the surgeon today for the cancer on John's nose. He'll have it taken off next Monday. No health club for2 weeks. He was a little down as we just joined. Told him that's OK he can still walk either outside or at the club on the tread mill. We'll be leaving in a... Mon, 25 Oct 2010 12:52:21 EST Prices going down Joined our Florida health Club today. It's a beautiful health club, part of Florida Hospital at Celebration. Two years ago it was $650 for 6 months for a senior couple. Last year it was $480 for a senior couple. This year(we're still a senior couple) it was $440.
I think with the economy going the way it is, especially in Florida with an 11.3% unemployment rate, business need to bring in $. Lowering the price might bring some in or more importantly keep people from giving up their m... Sat, 23 Oct 2010 22:52:59 EST It's like we never left Here less than a week and it's like we never left.Back to my volunteer driving and some shifts at Give Kids the World.
Went grocery shopping twice. $184 then $112. We had an appointment with the surgeon in Bur... Wed, 20 Oct 2010 23:49:56 EST Made it to Florida We arrived in Kissimmee, FL Thursday afternoon. Took us 3 overnights this time because we avoided RT 95 and all the traffic that goes with it. Nice trip down with lots of beautiful colors along the way and good conversation in the car when not listening to books on CD's.
We stopped at a Crackle Barrel and buy a book on CD's. When we finish listening we stop at another Crackle Barrel and get another book. They charge us $4 when we return them. Not bad , 2 books on the drive for $8 and we... Sat, 16 Oct 2010 22:19:14 EST First Night in PA Wanted to leave for FL at 7:AM Tuesday. Pulled out of the driveway at 10 :20 AM.
Decided to go the longer more picturesque way to Florida this year, so took our time getting to the interstates. Went a little over 350 miles yesterday and that was fine. Beautiful foliage on the way. I'm writing this at 9: AM so it will be another late start. This being retired is great.
Only managed to get in a 10 minute walk yesterday when we stopped to stretch our legs. Wed, 13 Oct 2010 09:06:03 EST No matter how much I do there's more to do I though I was so far ahead of the game in getting ready for the migration South.
Everything seem to take longer than I thought it would even with me allowing extra time.
I just kept on seeing more details I wanted covered.
We rent out the downstairs(6 rooms) in our house when we go to Florida. I just want it to be perfect. We planned on leaving at 7:00AM but if we leave at 9:00 AM, who cares.
it's almost midnight and I still have a load of clothes washing.
Hopefully ... Mon, 11 Oct 2010 23:49:28 EST Packing it up Getting ready to leave for Florida. If all goes well we'll be leaving Tuesday AM.
I should still be able to get in a few more days at the health club before we leave. Spent about 1/2 hour in the pool this morning. Felt good. of course I was starving when I got home. Swimming always gives me an appetite, I mean real hungry. Fri, 8 Oct 2010 13:54:14 EST A nothing day Today I did nothing. I'm not counting going to Home Depot, Michaels. and lunch with my husband and son.
I mean I did nothing. No food tracking. No walking. No Exercising. No time to speak of on SparkPeople. Just a nothing day.
I am experiencing the results tonight of a nothing day. I feel bloated, tired and fat.
Tomorrow I will remember this feeling and get back on track. Fri, 1 Oct 2010 22:52:06 EST Last day of drives Today was my last day of volunteer driving until I return from Florida in May.
I must say it was my most challenging. Rained for both my riders. First was a soon to be 90 year old and the second was a very slow moving gentlemen with a walker. It rained very hard for both my picking up and dropping off.
I will be leaving for Florida in less than two weeks and have mountains of work to do to get the house ready. We rent out the downstairs when we are gone (no renter at this time) <... Thu, 30 Sep 2010 17:59:35 EST Back on track At last, I'm starting to feel like myself. Hit the health club for the second day in a row.
I can't stand being cold and today was just one of those raw days in some places and sunny in others. Tonight will hit 40. Pile on the blankets, because I don't want to put the heat on in my room at night.
Had a drive yesterday and another tomorrow. (I volunteer drive two days a week)
AIC tomorrow to see how my diabetes is going. It was 7.2 last time. I'm hoping to be below 7 tomorrow... Wed, 15 Sep 2010 20:51:44 EST Starting to feel better It's been a tough couple of days. Getting allergies at this stage in my life was a little mystifying to me. Where did this come from? Running nose. I never knew my body could continuously produce this much mucus. Then came the opposite. Stuffed up nose and head. Then came the sore throat. Thank God I'm retired and did not have to work a regular job. I did manage to pull off my two days of volunteer driving.
My visit to the doctors confirmed my suspicions. Allergies. Dr. said this sea... Thu, 9 Sep 2010 08:26:40 EST Overate today Started out bad right from the start.
Picked my grand-daughter from the orthodontist at 8:30 AM. Went out to breakfast.
Home to spend hours on the computer and phone. Half a Bertolli's for lunch. Was so bloated and bogged down in the pool I only did a few laps.
Tried to cut back on dinner but still ended up with over 2000 calories for the day.
Did I feel good? No I just questioned my bad choices. Too wet to go for my after dinner walk.
Tomorrow is another day. Tue, 10 Aug 2010 20:56:54 EST BLT I have been forgetting to count every
Bite
Lick
Taste Mon, 2 Aug 2010 16:07:55 EST It was late but I did it I have been very good about getting in at least 30 min of walking, BUT, I break it up into two parts. I walk down to Green Mt. Roasters for a coffee in the morning and home one of two ways. It either takes me 12 or 18 min. Didn't go for coffee this AM so had to do my full half hour(I did 33 Min) all at once. Waited till after dinner. My heart wasn't in it ,so I faked it. Once i got going I was OK Sun, 1 Aug 2010 22:34:08 EST Great Finish to the Month Met my goal of exercising every day for July.
Only lost 2 #'s but my blood pressure went down and I feel a little thinner.
I can't believe how committed I am becoming to just walking.
No heart problems for over 4 months. I am slowly taking myself off my heart medication. 2 weeks to go, maybe 3 and I will be off the heavy duty heart medication. Sat, 31 Jul 2010 21:49:14 EST Today was my day First time since I have been tracking my food,
I hit everyone of my goals. So, this is how I'm suppose to eat.
I can do this.
Even walked for 60 min. today. Wed, 21 Jul 2010 23:21:41 EST back in the swing Something happened!
I just started eating right and exercising. It feels good. I don't know what came over me but I hope this is here to stay Mon, 5 Jul 2010 22:43:25 EST
