I found it to be tastier than I expected based on how it smelled as it was cooking (pretty bland!) and that is without looking at the comments on the recipe on the link I posted.

So for the modifications:

I shopped at Trader Joe's for the ingredients that I didn't already ... Sat, 3 May 2014 12:17:52 EST La Bamba Casserole http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5512318 I made this today, it looks and smells great! I won't taste it until tomorrow at the earliest, since I made it to put up for lunches for work. But I think the ingredients are good, so it must taste great!

This was from a Cooking Light magazine I had from a while back. A couple of years ago I took all my old Cooking Light magazines and pulled out any recipe I thought I might want to try and put them in a binder. So this was a go/no go for the marathon I have scheduled in 2 weeks, and I will call it a success! Yes, it was only 10 miles...but I don't want to damage my knee. What I wanted to see was if the run/walk would work for keeping my knee feeling OK, and so far, I say it did. I ended up running a mile, then walking a quarter mile, and so on through the run. It's just really Tuesday morning....so why not blog?

Since yesterday was Monday, it was another opportunity to avoid that darned candy dish! And avoid I did, made much easier by the fact that it is now empty! And did not get refilled as it usually does! Tue, 10 Sep 2013 09:06:39 EST Another day, another blog! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5479927 So, since I didn't go to work yesterday or today, there was no candy dish to avoid...but, I did have a victory of sorts, I went to the grocery store yesterday, and skipped the ice cream aisle, no chocolate entered my shopping basket, and it was filled with fruits, veggies, and other healthy foods!

Then today, Larry and I went to the store after our bike/hike outing, and he noted that he too was passing on the ice cream, and we left with the few things on our list and a couple of ... Why wouldn't they? It's a groovy tune, so I didn't mind, and it does go with the balloons!

Today I saw Smokey the Bear, there is a Smokey balloon, and there was a Smokey mascot out there taking pictures and promoting fire safety.

And now it's Saturday morning...dinner interrupted the blog! Now that I'm here (125) I'd like to get to where I'm comfortable not tracking again. I maintained around 135 for years without much tracking of food, so I know how that feels, I'm just not certain about this lower weight. My clothes fit well now, (some are a bit on the loose side, even) and I feel reall... I think I may have hit on something here, so tell me if any of you have observed a similar phenomenon. We (Larry and I) watch almost no "live" TV, and pretty much watch shows on Netflix, either streaming or DVD. Well, you know what, they don't have commercials with all kinds of tempting food triggers... Sat, 2 Feb 2013 16:36:32 EST Making lunches for work http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5161110 So today I made a quiche and mini meatloaves and realized that for a couple of months now, I've been doing really well at making my lunches for work, rather than buying frozen ones at the store.

So what does that mean? I'm just guessing here on some of this, since I haven't really done a true comparison but:

1) less expensive. I can spend as little as $1.50 for a sale entree, and up to $5.00 for a frozen entree at the store. If I don't bring my lunch and instead buy... Sun, 9 Dec 2012 13:21:56 EST Trail run! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5042527 So a while back I had a series of blogs about my foot problem trying to see if I could figure out what was aggravating or what was helping the issue. Well, I have to say that it's been a couple of weeks since I've had any pain, or even any twinges or numbness, all of which I had been noticing almost daily only a month ago.

I have also been testing it, walking to work a few days a week, and in my 5 finger shoes at the gym, even running laps lately on the track, all of which has b... And some whining...but I'm not going to focus on that.

So today I saw a bunch of blogs with a similar title: 30 days of blogging,or something to that effect. The challenge is a series of 30 questions and the bloggers are answering one each day for the month. I read a few... Sat, 1 Sep 2012 21:12:30 EST a fun workout http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5021067 So I got "the Women's Health Big Book of Exercises" on my Kindle a while back, and finally got around to really looking through the tome....let me tell you, it must have all the exercises in there! And with lots of variations as well....so I decided it was time to do what I keep thinking I SHOULD do every weekend, and get in a resistance training routine. I decided to start basic, and follow the first plan (just the workout, they also have diet suggestions, but I'm OK with my current diet) ... My foot didn't seem to give me much trouble today, even with washing the car, and doing some preliminary trip prep (mostly bringing stuff up from the gear closet). Puttered around the yard for the morning, got in a gentle yoga (mostly on my back) followed by meditation, and went shopping after lunch. I even went to a shoe store, and after trying on a number of ugly shoes that seemed like they might be suitable for work, I realized I really need wide shoes. I may try Zappos....and maybe a shoe stretcher for my current work shoes. I was wearing my Soloman's with the old orthotics, and my fo... Sun, 22 Jul 2012 09:40:55 EST Friday: start the blog http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4979028 Just to start for today, I did my yoga, and there were a couple of moves in this one that involved a twisting of the foot (it was a sequence that revolved around the mat) and ouch! I modified after the first one, and picked my foot up and planted it, rather than twisting. I have noticed this really aggravates the nerve. This happened a couple of weeks ago when we hiked up Mt Rose too, another reason I don't want to try any long hikes this next week. The rest of the session went OK, alth... It started on the 9th, so up to today I've done 6 days of guided meditation. I think there are 3 different audios, so far, it's been the same one for the 6 days, I get a daily e-mail that talks about different aspects of meditation, and guides the participates, with links to the yoga warm-up and the audio link. You can find out things like it is possible to move for 100,000 minutes! I just hit that milestone with my fitness minutes yesterday, and boy does that feel great! Sure I've been Sparking for quite a while, and it took me 7 years to rack up those minutes, but still, 100,000 is a lot of minutes! That's 1,666 hours, nearly 70 days if I had just done them all at once. But that's the great thing about fitness, you can spread those minutes out, ... They gave us 3 months to study and take the exam. Well this organization also has a credential that I have, and the certification for that had a similar, but later deadline. And with all that has been going on lately (work is always crazy, we had a quick trip to Montreal, getting our passports in time for that tri... I tried my credit card and it was declined.....tried again, declined again. Hmmmmm, that's odd, I've been using this card most of the trip, but now it gives me problems? I indulged in a chocolate filled croissant, but found it to be too sweet (imagine that!) so I just finished my plain yogurt w/ granola and a b... Thu, 8 Mar 2012 19:50:12 EST Vacation Blog, day 1, highlights of traveling http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4777016 Woke up pre-crack-of-dawn, about 3 minutes before the alarm went off at 4am...but not feeling overly tired. After a quick cup of coffee, the cab arrived to take us to the airport, where we had to check my bag, and try to get our boarding passes, as the web site was not working the day before to print them out at home.....so of course, the ticket counter guy had troubles with it too! Thu, 8 Mar 2012 09:05:13 EST Generosity http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4738121 So I was really irritable yesterday, it was Monday, always more to do at work to catch up from the weekend, and then I had an employee call in sick, with as she said in her message "a big mess on my desk" and said she hoped someone could help with that. The schedule being what it is I couldn't pull the people she's there to support to do her work, so we divided up what absolutely needed to be done, organized that a well as we could and moved on to our other duties. I did go back and do some... It really started w/ a couple of arguments Larry and I had, first Monday morning, then again Tuesday morning over trying to renew our passports....yes, stupid, silly arguments both because he wanted something to get the passport applications going, and I was trying to get to work, and these two events overlapped at just the wrong moments. Why is that? And while I can see the Monday event happen... Plan for tomorrow is to go to the downhill area and attempt to Telemark....we'll see how that goes! It's supposed to be up to 60 down here, so I don't know what the temp will be on the mountain, but it should be a nice sunny day. It's exciting to finally be able to think about skiing, and we're hoping the XC area will be in good shape for the weekend, then we can hit that one too.

The new hot tub has been on the fritz, they have been out 4-5 time... So I'm getting a prescription this time, and we'll check it again in 3 months. Also checking in 3 months, my white blood count which was also low, so check again, and go from there. The only other abnormal result was my liver numbers were high, but she wasn't concerned about this, she said it... Thu, 19 Jan 2012 10:00:31 EST January goal recap, mid-month check in. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4684383 Checking in on my goals for January, especially since it's Monday, and I'm off work....

First, my yoga goal, it's ambitious, daily yoga for January. I've never tried this much yoga, but so far, so good! I've managed some yoga every day so far, even if it was a short 10 minute yoga meditation, and I've done some longer ones as well. No repeats yet this month, I've managed to use quite an number of different DVD's and have done a class at the gym as well (I think that was this mo... Mon, 16 Jan 2012 12:49:11 EST up and down http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4681563 And I mean that literally!

We hiked up to the top of Castle Peak yesterday, hard to believe it's January, and we HIKED to the top....this time of year it should require snowshoes or skis to get there, but not this year. While there was a lot of old snow from the October dump we got (and up there, perhaps a bit from some other earlier snowfall) it was old, and on the trails, mostly hard-packed ice. Which made for rough going, especially without crampons.....but it was also covere... Sun, 15 Jan 2012 08:23:19 EST Feeling groovy.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4664793 It's still hard to believe it's the first week in January, given the mild weather here lately, and the decided lack of snow....

And I don't know if it's the abundant sunshine, the warm weather, or something in the water, but I have felt really good this week, and it's been surprisingly easy to get things done. I've done my two days of nutrition tracking, I have done my yoga every day, as a bonus I did 2 small group fitness classes and 2 Pilates reformer classes, even walking to an... Sat, 7 Jan 2012 20:03:52 EST Wrap up yesterday, and mid-week day off plans.... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4656588 It's day four in January, and I weighed in this morning up 0.8 lbs, but down 0.1% on the body fat, and up on the water %. I switched to my body fat % scale recently, and thought I'd start tracking that part as well, maybe it will keep the scale readings from messing with my brain! And I was expecting an increase in weight, considering that yesterday was not a tracking day (even if I'm trying to eat healthy) and I did hit the sugar more than I meant to! But overall, I did fine on what I cho... Wed, 4 Jan 2012 10:41:03 EST Quick blog update on January goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4652872 So it's only the second day, but I'm doing my yoga, tracked my nutrition today, and even got out to the climbing gym with Larry, and boy are we rusty! But it was good to get out and rope up with my man...he's been itching to try out his shoulder since it's started feeling better.

Feeling really positive about this new year, now for the snow dance! 444 218 218 444 218 444 425 425 425 425</... Mon, 2 Jan 2012 23:32:30 EST New Year, new start! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4648868 Or continue on the path of healthy living....

It's really about finding the path that works for me, staying focused on the long-term, and not getting bogged down in the little things that throw me off track momentarily. I have learned that getting back to the "healthy living" path as soon as I can after a digression, or set back is key. I think in the "Spark" book they call it a downward or upward spiral, and our choices allow us to pull out of a downward spiral, or continue on t... Sun, 1 Jan 2012 16:17:08 EST Continued tracking...and lots of thinking and reflecting! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4644968 So I've completed my December tracking challenge, and successfully managed to get in 2 days of tracking each week for the month. And I believe I'm also pretty close to the same weight I was when I started, so that's good, right? Well, good in the sense of making it through the holidays in the same ballpark weight-wise that I started it, but I'm still struggling with wanting to be in my "goal range" of 130-135. And I'm still hovering just out of that range (somewhere between 135 and 138). ... Fri, 30 Dec 2011 13:21:25 EST
