Start with something tiny.

For instance, for... Fri, 8 Feb 2008 16:21:28 EST Coming up for air http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=688655 You know, there are certain areas of my life that I let get out of control. This--of course!--leads to a domino effect, so other areas of life go down the drain.

My trap is busy-ness. I let myself get overscheduled, which leads to stress, which leads to not getting enough sleep, which leads to being tired ALL the time, which leads to not exercising, doing a less-than-stellar job at work, eating hoards of junk food...All because I say "yes" to too many commitments!

For ... If I don't exercise for an hour, it's not worth it...If I don't eat perfectly, I'm a failure...and so on. I find myself falling for this all the time. I go over my daily calorie goal, so I may as well eat the entire box of cookies. I don't have the time/energy for a workout, so I may as well do nothing.

But that's not true! Little bits do add up. Even if I can only exercise for five minutes, I'm still burning cal... (Get your mind out of the gutter--that's not what I mean!)

For each day that I achieve my fitness goal, I'm going to put a sticker on my calendar. Same for each day that I stay within my calorie range.

I've read about the streak technique several places on SparkPeople, and I think that having a visible reminder of my streak is a fabulous way to keep my self focused and motivated.

Here's to streaks & sti... Tue, 24 Apr 2007 15:10:14 EST Rewards http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=529551 I just read a thread on the Motivation resources page that totally inspired me! I've been having trouble coming up with small ways to reward myself for sticking to my new healthy habits, and this thread was on how people reward themselves. I now have tons of good ideas for rewards!

I think what I'll do is for every week that I consistently meet my food & exercise goals, I'll treat myself to one of the smaller rewards; for every month, I'll go for a bigger reward. Each 10 pounds los... Tue, 24 Apr 2007 15:09:04 EST
