Sun, 8 Jul 2012 23:36:29 EST Today's Plan http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4960857 Failing to plan is planning to fail - I grew up with that phrase spoken to me often by my dad. As a result, I am a GREAT planner! I can make high level plans that reach out 5-10 years in the future, and flesh them in with great step by step detail. Where I have repeatedly fallen short is on execution. And all that long range planning goes to pot when short-term goals are missed.

I visited the doctor Friday for a regular check-up. He lost his poker face when he looked at the w... Sun, 8 Jul 2012 17:11:47 EST First Place 4 Health http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4527283 Realizing I really, really, really need a group of ladies to move through this journey with, I joined the First Place 4 Health group at my church. I really enjoy the in-person encouragement we receive from one another, and the accountability of the weekly weigh in. I peeked, and am down this week, so am really looking forward to tomorrow night's weigh in!

I was tracking food on Spark People the first 2 weeks of First Place, but didn't track last week because I got too busy with ... Sun, 9 Oct 2011 19:55:17 EST Celebrating Oatmeal – and All Real Food! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4059540 I wouldn’t say I “failed” on the South Beach Diet, but I have to admit I bailed before Phase 1 was complete. I really only made it through 4 days. I missed my oatmeal and fruit and am getting pretty tired of eggs. It was a great jump start, but I just need to go back to adding my fruit and whole grains back in. What I was doing before starting South Beach Diet wasn’t working, but I learned a few things that will help me move forward in a more balanced way.

Things I learned on So... Wed, 2 Mar 2011 07:02:19 EST South Beach Diet : Phase 1 : Day 5 : Feeling Great! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4046168 Just starting Day 5. It is getting easier. I am spending more time in the kitchen than I would like to, but am really enjoying all the fresh vegetables. They are worth the effort! My husband has committed to make us fresh V3 juice every morning (our version of V8 juice) while I make eggs, and that is really nice to have his support in that way!

Eggs, eggs everywhere! I am sure this is just for phase 1! I have taken to baking my eggs in a pie plate. It is a lot easier than tr... Fri, 25 Feb 2011 06:58:29 EST Small Changes : Big Difference! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4037457 It is amazing how small changes make such a big difference! I have been gradually moving toward healthy eating over the past few years, and started adding South Beach recipes to my menus about 6 years ago, but I never got past phase 1 - because I was never "perfect enough" to pull off phase 1 for an entire 2 weeks. I now understand perfectionism is part of what got me into this current situation, and what has kept me here.

I finally decided to get serious about doing the 2-week P... Tue, 22 Feb 2011 06:52:10 EST December Spark Streak: Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3818022 Where DOES the time go? I don't know!

Coming off a great weekend with the kids and grandkids. Spending time with them always motivates me to press on toward optimal health. I want to run with them for years to come!

So, back to my yoga/pilates video today. It was so easy when I was into a daily habit in October. Don't know what happened in November. I think I used the video once... So it was just like starting all over again today. But that's okay, because I know... Wed, 1 Dec 2010 21:05:11 EST September Reflections http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3690664 I tried to think of what my favorite moment in September was, and I could not come up with just one. There were so many! Watching my youngest grandchild blow out her two birthday candles, navigating through a fresh, New Mexico corn maze with my youngest son and his family, scratching my grandsons’ backs while they fell asleep, reading silly books to my grandchildren, a weekend visit with my big sister, an evening at the playground with my three local grandchildren and a camera, lunch with m... Mon, 4 Oct 2010 07:44:36 EST Small Victories http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3666740 I usually dread flying. It takes all day to get to the places I like to go, and the security line is a flurry of frantic activity where irritated travelers are often rude to the TSA workers or fellow travelers. And then there are those little seats and short seatbelts…

But last week’s flights were not anything like that. I spent 2 days traveling through 4 airports across our country, and it was fairly pleasant, as far as flying goes.

The first pleasant experience was ... Fri, 24 Sep 2010 06:49:10 EST 1 Pound at a Time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3620082 I really enjoyed my Weight Watchers meeting last night. Mike and I normally go to a Monday night meeting, but had to go Tuesday night because of the holiday. The Tuesday night meeting has a lifetime member who comes every week. She has never been more than 2 pounds above her goal weight in the past year. There were several other inspiring people in the room, and the leader very skillfully made her way around the room and let them tell their success stories throughout the meeting.
<B... Wed, 8 Sep 2010 21:48:34 EST Over-eating begets over-eating…. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3528651 "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
Galations 6:7-9

I was wondering all day yesterday, how does this happen? Thu, 12 Aug 2010 08:34:53 EST What is a Blog, Anyway? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3523968 I was inspired by reading some blogs this evening, and it just occurred to me, since I am in this for the long haul, why not share my journey? I was writing little "notes to self" in a journal only I see. I may continue to write some there, but I can share the weight loss journey here. It just hadn't occurred to me, until now, this might be a useful tool for me and, after I've lost a few more pounds (or tens of pounds) my notes from these beginning days, with the little bumps and setbacks ... Tue, 10 Aug 2010 23:48:51 EST Frozen Bananas! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3504137 I found the most wonderful treat by accident today. I had a few very ripe bananas yesterday, and I used a couple of them to make banana bread, but didn't know what to do with the other 2. I didn't want to throw them away, and their time was just about up. So I sliced them and froze them in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Then I scooped them off the cookie sheet with a spatula and put them in a zip lock bag. I thought they would be good to use in a smoothie. I was surprised to see them... Wed, 4 Aug 2010 21:17:01 EST Missing fire! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3280007 I realized this week that I once had a firey way about me, from the inside out, and I don't have that any more. I was enthusiastic about life, and looked forward to greeting the world on most days, and was excited to see what the day would bring. I saw that in someone else this week, and realized that is who I once was. Where did it go? WHEN did it go? I don't know. I just know that is part of who I once was, and now it is gone, and I want it back. It's a part of me that got lost a few... Sat, 29 May 2010 14:27:22 EST
