This deficit is sufficient to yield fairly quick weight loss, but it would be too large within the race-focused training process, when you need your diet to support heavy training for an upcoming race.

Strength Training
A quick start is also a good time to make a greater commitment to strength training than yo... Because the race started at a high school track, I warmed up well with good dynamic stretching.

It was my first solo half since my very first half Big Sur. While I didn't have the benefit of buddy camaraderie, I could run when I wanted to and walk when I needed to. I carried a fanny pack with my water bottle, so I would have the water station volunteers top my bottle off at each stop. I accidentally put two Nuun tabs in it... I may have forgotten to journal a few things. I did have a margarita at a cocktail party I helped host. I've also got a great baseline of exercise since I'm on a triathl... Sat, 19 May 2012 11:01:52 EST Eating on a Long School Fieldtrip http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4884156 Yesterday I went on an all day school fieldtrip with the entire 4th grade class. We arrived at school at 6:30AM, returning to school at 6:45PM. That's a lot of hours to plan for!

We were to pack our own lunches which was a great help.

I went with a baguette sandwich filled with deli turkey meet, avocado and my pickled onions. I had ziploc bags with carrots and strawberries in them. I tucked in my backpack an apple and a sample-size Luna bar from my last race. And my wate... The party is a dessert potluck. I've been making huge strides with getting the scale moving lately, and I don't want this party to change that rhythm.

This recent conversation on the message boards seemed right in line with tonight's circumstance as well.
www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageb<B... There are more ahead for me; I'm hooked. The Diva wasn't my perfect half, those honors belong to the Big Sur Half which I did last fall and hope to keep as a fall tradition (we've already made our hotel arrangements for this year!). From what I've heard, Big Sur may always be my fave half. It's on a lot of runners' bucket lists.

Not that this was a ba... Fri, 11 May 2012 19:32:22 EST Diva Half Marathon Race Review http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4872227 This race is taking a lot of thinking through for me, so I'm breaking it down into two blogs. This one will focus on the race itself, a new one for my community, and my next blog will be my experience of the race.

Race Positives:
Much running along the baylands.
Running through a neighborhood, families came out to watch.
Fun music playlist different from most races.
I like all women races. More black women ran than I normally see. Many racers came with friends.... I like things to be "pretty" and this isn't, but it felt good to be outside of my box. I gathered screenshots of all my March runs, overlayed them in Photoshop, and then proceeded to mess with the layers to reveal all the running routes. The yellow and white show my runs, the blue shows the roads.

... Tue, 1 May 2012 12:01:36 EST Spa Water (my new thing) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4859335 Okay, I am now "into" spa water. Friday night I helped host a cocktail party for about 50 women from the elementary school. I was in charge of making salsa and bringing a non-alcoholic drink. I opted to make spa water, and it was my saving grace at that party let me tell you because there was a margarita machine with margaritas on one side of the machine and slushy cosmos on the other. I kept drinking my yummy spa water and only had one margarita. Appetizers there included a gorgeous fruit tr... Tue, 24 Apr 2012 13:51:35 EST Nice Thing about Eating Beautifully http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4849925 Today I got to experience one of the perks of Eating Beautifully. Before when I'd just kind of graze on bits and pieces all day long, I didn't get to really experience much true hunger. Now that I'm Eating Beautifully, hunger is coming back.

I'm exercising loads as the intense swim practice this AM supports, today I needed what I call "second breakfast" around 10. Homemade French toast with a grilled banana!

2 slices of Oroweat whole wheat bread which i soaked in
2 ... Tue, 24 Apr 2012 13:16:57 EST Day 5 of Eating Beautifully http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4848756 Yesterday went pretty smoothly. Journaled everything. Last night we had a group of friends over and it was a themed potluck, my choice vegetarian. Ate pretty nutritiously except there was this to-die-for coconut cake. One that was so delicious that when we eat something that wonderful at our house we say "oh, God loves me!" One of the best cakes of my life. Really.

So I ended up eating over my calorie goals per my food journal. And I started getting on myself about it.

... Mon, 23 Apr 2012 19:53:14 EST Eating Beautifully Feeds My Psyche http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4846794 I have been muddling through things since my half marathon last November. Still exercising (though strength training is not getting its due attention), but my eating hasn't been on track for what my body needs. My weight has been going up too, 19 pounds. Oosh.

5 nights ago when I stepped on the scale and saw 181, it was my threshold. That point where I was willing to say enough, stop, this must change. I've been muttering to myself, my family, my friends that my eating has been mes... Sun, 22 Apr 2012 16:05:35 EST
