One thing that has really helped my mom on her weight loss journey since being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes is that "nothing is off-limits." The cool thing about diabetes (you'll see where I'm going with this) is that you get feedback on what you ate based on your numbers for that day. So while some foods may be better than others, none are off limits. If you keep up with your numbers, you have the feedback to know ... Now I want to tell you about my diet. I'm not any less-wordy today. 149

It was in home ec class where I first remember learning about nutrition. I loved the four food groups and experimenting in the kitchen. I still remember, from 11th grade, which vitamins are fat soluble (A, D, E, K).

Growing up we'd eat a lot of Shake'n'Bake, Hamburger Helper, TV dinners, and other processed foods. We were allow... Wed, 5 Mar 2014 00:48:45 EST How I Got Here: Exercise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5639507 At some point during my high school years -- maybe 10th grade -- I began exercising. 34 I worked out with PBS shows Hooked on Aerobics and Body Electric. I loved the Body Electric host's strength, though my mom thought she was too buff for a woman. My family thought I was crazy for exercising. I owned my own step for step aerobics, had tons of VHS tapes (Cindy Crawford! Sugar Ray Leonard!) and would get up before school to exercise in my family's tiny little house.

The... Tue, 4 Mar 2014 12:18:29 EST What Once Was Lost http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5636735 Has now been FOUND!

Since I moved in with my BF 2 years ago, I have been missing about half of my workout DVDs. I decided to rummage through the storage unit to find them.

Behold, in all their glory:

Since finding them last weekend, I've done 3 of them, including one this morning! 244 Sat, 1 Mar 2014 09:09:04 EST Something Different http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5635919 Yesterday I went to the gym for spin class. Now I don't love spinning, but it's a good workout and I since skipped Monday's step class, I really wanted some tough cardio. However, the microphone wasn't working -- not the first time this has happened -- and it's frustrating to not really be able to hear the instructor. I like cues. So at the half-hour mark, I left class. (Ever the good gym-goer, I wiped my bike down first.)

Wanting more cardio, I decided to use the treadmill. I alm... It's not just for beans anymore! It's really fun -- you should try it!

Anyway... I bought 7 leaves of kale today because I need more for my breakfast smoothies. You know how much 7 big leaves of kale costs? 47 cents! 224 Kale is one of the hea... Mon, 24 Feb 2014 19:46:27 EST Wisdom that Comes with Age http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5630892 Lately I've been thinking about how long life is. I'm eating well and exercising plenty, but will this continue forever? I love my job, but will I do this (or something similar) forever? I'm in early middle age and having some deep thoughts. I no longer see myself as someone with infinite possibilities...

I am 37, so I have at least another 30 years of working ahead of me -- and probably more. How do you continue the same things for so long? How do you not get bogged down by the l...
