Here's why.

While I had fun doing the workouts with her, they were always a little chaotic. Wed, 17 Dec 2014 10:54:35 EST Reducing Sugar Intake http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5831291 The American Heart Association recommends that we not consume any more than 100 calories of added sugar per day. I'm pretty sure this translates to about 25 grams of sugar, or 6 teaspoons.

Yesterday I ate a cookie that had 26 grams of sugar!

I had a yogurt this morning that had 17 grams of sugar (some added, some naturally-occurring in the milk) and a coffee creamer that had 5 grams. Thu, 11 Dec 2014 09:24:59 EST 855 Minutes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5825197 I love counting fitness minutes. This month I had 855 minutes, and that is with a 5-day trip to London for a wedding and a 4-day trip to New Orleans for a conference. I actually walked TONS while on my trips but I don't count walking around, only class or cardio time.

I feel very accomplished and know that exercise is a part of my life now. I don't need to convince myself that exercising is the right thing to do... In London, I ate less because food is so expensive there and no one served large portions! LOL I also realized that I was juuuust fine without feeling full.

I've learned over the last 2.5 years that no amount of exercise will whittle my waste. Mon, 14 Apr 2014 14:32:35 EST NSV: Posture http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5670662 My journey with SparkPeople is more about focusing on my health than it is about losing weight. I joined because my pants were tight. To be honest, a year and a half later, they still are. Despite the fact that I haven't lost any weight, I'm much fitter than I was when I started. My biggest victory to date is my improved posture.

I've had terrible posture since I was a child. I remember being in the school lunchroom when I was in the 4th grade when one of my friends commented on h... Sat, 12 Apr 2014 19:00:24 EST Food Anxiety http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5668856 Anyone who knows me through SparkPeople knows that I don't have issues with exercise. I enjoy it and I have time for it, so it gets done. I'm not obsessive about it -- I get just over 1000 minutes in per month and a variety of activities make up those minutes, from yoga to walking to step aerobics to DVDs that have me using free weights. 34

But food, oh food. I tend to be very anxious about my next meal and so I try to eat to fullness at every meal, just in case. I hav... Thu, 10 Apr 2014 09:33:13 EST Making the American Body (Book Review) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5664129 I just finished reading a book about the history of the fitness industry. Last year I read a similar book about the history of the rise of fitness culture in the US. While the latter was about how Americans exercised, this book was more about the personalities who got Americans to exercise. It begins in the mid-1800s.

One thing I appreciated in this book is that it seemed like the people the author profiles really believed in what they were professing. It wasn't snake oil to them,... I ate it. 4

When I woke up this morning, I was thinking about how it was my co-worker's last day. 46 We always have a little gathering for our departing friends and colleagues, and they always involve cake. I was planning on getting a gluten-free cupcake from a nearby cupcakery so I had something to eat too.

Then I remembered my ice cream from last night. No cupcake for me... Thu, 3 Apr 2014 09:36:13 EST My Favorite App http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5662942 Today I had to work late and I didn't make it to the 5:30pm PiYo class at the gym. Instead, and probably for the better, I took a walk in the nice weather. Whenever I go for a walk I use the Every Body Walk! app. It uses your phone's GPS to accurately track distance. It also calculates time and calories; the one thing I think it's missing is pace. Here is the walk I took today:

*I changed the picture -- it wa... Wed, 2 Apr 2014 20:43:29 EST Buns of Steel http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5660954 I mentioned in a previous blog that I had a lot of workout videos when I was younger. I am currently reading a book on the history of physical fitness culture in the United States, and was remembering some of my old favorites. Very little Googling later...

Did you know you can buy the original Buns of Steel as digital downloads? I had Buns of Steel 7, which was a step aerobics video. I recognized those animal print leotards immediately. 241

www.tami... Mon, 31 Mar 2014 14:40:07 EST Bad Night http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5659882 Yesterday evening my friend entered a cupcake contest. They had to make 100 mini-cupcakes, and the public could attend and try 3 cupcakes. My BF and I went to support our friends (her husband made a display, a smaller version of what they do on Cupcake Wars). There was only one gluten-free cupcake baker in the entire place! I tried that woman's 2 cupcakes, but had one more ticket to use. I made the decision to try my friend's cupcake, even though it wasn't gluten free.

I very rare... Sun, 30 Mar 2014 09:23:58 EST Crazy Corner http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5654788 Tonight I went to the gym for 2 back-to-back classes, and I wasn't the only one with that agenda. There were at least 3 of us who stayed for both BodyPump and BodyStep.

At BodyStep, though, I was in a corner full of crazy people. Birds of a feather? 145

353 The lady in front of me wasn't really doing the routine, she was doing more ballet-type moves. It was distracting and annoying.
549 The woman behind me wouldn't take a break. B... Sun, 23 Mar 2014 18:47:04 EST
