Tue, 12 Jul 2011 12:41:01 EST Lent Break events http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4194856 I had a hard time staying off SparkPeople for Lent, I actually did go back on once because my daughter was intrigued by the doctor-writer who wrote some inspirational books and she was writing a medical ethics paper for college. I couldn't remember his name and had heard about him on MELTEAGUE's blog, Abraham Verghese. But I didn't check my page or my teams or my mail or my spark friends (except Mel).
My goal this year is to maintain my gains of the previous two years, well, maintain o... Wed, 27 Apr 2011 18:44:33 EST Hike in the powdery snow http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4041518 Yesterday was hiking day, every Tuesday since September a group of us do a morning hike up the mountain that is the peak second to the left on this photo, the sub-peak of Dewdney Mountain on the far left. This photo is on a clear January day.

Most of the time here on the West Coast our winter looks like this, we have green winters with lots of rain. Wed, 23 Feb 2011 13:07:31 EST Snow Shoe Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4008304 This year I started snow shoeing. I have been wanting to do this for a few seasons, but didn't find the time to fit it in. Since the start of the school year, a group of us, anywhere from 3 to 10 of us gather every Tuesday to hike and Thursday (since January) to snow shoe. Our local ski hill, Hemlock Valley, offers a free day to the ladies on Thursdays from January to March, so we jumped on this. Two in our group have been before and know the trails, for the rest of us, every outing is an... Thu, 10 Feb 2011 22:58:30 EST Monster Erg 2011 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3999371 This weekend I competed in an indoor rowing competition. Last year was the first year I competed in this event at the standard 2000m distance, three years ago my son was competing and for fun I entered the 500m parents event, I got hooked on indoor rowing and have been erging(another name for indoor rowing) ever since. The first two years on Spark I worked out regularly, I improved all the time, it was very satisfying. I lost weight, gained muscle, strengthened and healed my gimpy shoulde... Mon, 7 Feb 2011 21:35:41 EST I am a cardio junkie http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3814336 LOVE those endorphins

I regularly swim 3 times a week, go for a hike every Tuesday, go for a long walk every Thursday, run 3 times a week, and indoor row when I can. I love the benefits of strength training, but struggle to make that a regular workout.

As for goals, there are so many. When I am just keeping active, I tell myself my goals are primarily that, keep active, exercise regularly, stay fit, feel good. I do have a few specific goals as well, there are so man... Tue, 30 Nov 2010 11:44:50 EST 5k Police Run http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3650203 Today DH and I ran personal bests in the Abbotsford Police Run. DH last ran a 26:13 PB on May 30, 2010 and today he cracked 26min and ran a 25:37 race. and I last ran a 28:31 PB on April 6, 2008 and today I ran 28:26. I am going by chip times, because that is the time we spent running the 5k, although by race rules one goes by gun times as the gun starts the race. As usual his age class is very competitive, the medals were all by runners under 20 min and he was 9/19. I got a bronze and was... Sat, 18 Sep 2010 18:38:24 EST Grouse Grind http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3605597 Today DH, DD and I hiked the Grouse Grind, a trail up Grouse Mountain on the North Shore Mountains to the site of an alpine ski area overlooking Vancouver. Today is still a summer day, no snow on the mountain, and we went up the trail that was shady and dry. It is 3km long and fairly steep, nicknamed nature's stairmaster. DH didn't like the built-in stairs, probably 75% of the trail. A lot of people frequent the trail, and teams use it for training, the UBC rowing team and a girls soccer tea... Sat, 4 Sep 2010 01:22:37 EST Air Show http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3546510 DD and I volunteered at the Abbotsford Air Show parking cars. Volunteered, well kind of, we don't get paid, but our rowing club does. The show organizers give out, over 3 days Fri-Sun, money for tasks that need to be done and pay non-profit groups to do them, it is a good deal for them because no one would work and spend all day for $3.47 an hour ( 20 volunteers made the club $2500 working 7am to 7pm, do the math, 12x3x20=720 volunteer hours $2500/720= is $3.47/hour), but for our club, $25... Tue, 17 Aug 2010 12:20:18 EST Flour grinder anyone? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3522656 Does anyone use a grinder to make flour from wheat? Wheat is easy to buy from the health food store and a long time ago I read about fresh ground flour for baking, I think I could get used to ultra tasty and nutritious bread. But I don't know what kind of a grinder to get or where to get it
If someone has experience, please tell me what you use Tue, 10 Aug 2010 16:21:42 EST
