I had surgery on my ankle end of June - this week I can start putting partial weight back on the ankle. Originally I planned to do other exercises while I healed, things that didn't involve legs. Didn't happen. I have been using my kneeling walker to go for walks most days. It is actually a hard workout on my kneeling leg - continuous squats!!

I pulled out my weights today - I will be doing a series of arm exercises with them. I will also do a daily plan... Thu, 18 Aug 2016 12:39:01 EST Tried Clipless Shoes in Spin Class http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5911208 Brought my clipless shoes to spin class this morning. Took me several minutes to get them to clip in, then the instructor told me to adjust my seat - seems the seat needs to be lower, probably because there is no sole on the shoes. I had a lot of pain in my arches when I tried standing, made some more adjustments, but couldn't get it to go away. When I googled the problem, I think the solution is moving the cleats back further on my foot. Right now the cleat is too close to my toes and it... Tue, 14 Apr 2015 13:32:02 EST First Long Ride of Season http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5910438 We went on our first long ride of the season yesterday. It was a bit cool in the beginning, but warmed up as we went along. Went to the Farmington Canal Trail - parked by the Crossfit at the corner of Putnam and Dixwell Ave in Hamden. Went all the way up to where this section of trail ends, at Cornwall Ave. When I put it into Map My Ride it says we went 23.48 miles round trip.

I'm getting the hang of clipping into the pedals with my bike shoes. I still need the left clip adjus... Mon, 13 Apr 2015 10:16:52 EST Finally warm enough to bike! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5907713 The weather is finally warming up enough to get out on our bikes again! Last weekend I purchased bike shoes and clipless pedals. Went on two rides to learn how to use them. The first ride, it was so windy - steady at about 20, with gusts up to 50, we kept it short and away from the coastline. Ended up going up a hill which just showed me how out of shape I get every winter.

Second ride the next day, there was no wind, so we went about 12 miles round trip. The clipless pedals t... Wed, 8 Apr 2015 12:30:40 EST Feeling Better http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5875070 Feeling much better. Now I need to get a routine going again, including tracking in here.

I've been researching things that I can do to help myself feel better through diet and exercise. I will be doing the autoimmune paleo diet, I did give it a try this week, but I need to spend more time tapering certain things (coffee being the big one) so that I don't have such a negative reaction. I ordered a new book today that has a slower approach and eliminates differently. For now I... Fri, 13 Feb 2015 11:17:28 EST Going to have to start over. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5856452 Tests results show I am very low on iron, so I have put my workout routine on hold for now. My energy is coming back slowly and not using the little I have on fitness is giving me the energy I need for other things (boring stuff like work, cleaning, laundry).

I've been learning a lot about foods that are iron rich, what combinations help you absorb better and what to avoid. My focus right now will be nutrition, which is actually more important than the exercise - it's also, always ... Sat, 17 Jan 2015 13:15:22 EST Day 9 of 60 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5853322 So where am I at? The weekend had two rest days in the program. My body seemed to really need them! Talked to my doctor on Monday, found out my exhaustion is from really low iron levels. So I need to become much better at taking my iron (I was really good until the doctor had me change the time of day I take it, so it wouldn't interfere with the thyroid meds). I am now going to take it when I go to bed every night. I also added iron tracking to my SP nutrition, so I can see how much I a... Tue, 13 Jan 2015 08:46:39 EST Day 5 of 60 Day Insanity Max 30 Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5850530 Day 5 of 60 day Insanity Max 30 challenge - I completed most of Fight Friday - I think he took the hardest stuff from the other days and put them all together! Thinking of pulling out my old kickboxing bag to use during this workout, so I can punch something :) Fri, 9 Jan 2015 18:00:15 EST Day 3 of 60 Day Insanity Max 30 Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5848655 Day 3 of 60 - this was the hardest workout for me so far, they have gotten harder each day, so I am afraid of what tomorrow will bring! Maxed out at 8:26 during my favorite things - pushups! This workout has so many squats and lunges, I can see a pair of daisy duke shorts in my future I'm including some small blurry before selfies, to get myself in the habit of taking photographs of myself, something I usually avoid, but if I am going to share my journey, I know how powerful photographs are.... Wed, 7 Jan 2015 13:51:55 EST Day 2 of 60 Day Insanity Max 30 challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5847618 Day 2 of 60 - Insanity Max 30, the tabata was a hard as I expected! Maxed out at 7:40, my weak arms and upper body get me every time. A lot of core work in this workout!! Tue, 6 Jan 2015 12:00:18 EST Day 1 - 60 Day Insanity Max 30 challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5846674 First day of my 60 day commitment to Insanity Max 30 and it kicked my butt! Because I can't jump, I follow the modifier, so it takes longer to max out, but I did max out at 17:55. Then my least favorite 5 minutes came up, 20 minutes to 25 minutes, I felt like I was maxing out every other minute. Then I attempted the 10 minutes of ab work - I was maxing out every minute!! Tomorrow is tabata - I've done tabata before and it was never more than 4 minutes - I'm afraid to find out what 30 minutes... Mon, 5 Jan 2015 13:01:01 EST Prep Time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5844669 Made it to spin class for the second Saturday in a row. It's so good to have people who want to go with me, makes me more accountable. Looked for a spring charity ride we can do together, so I have a goal to aim for, but there are still only a couple with 2015 dates listed. Hopefully now that the new year has started more will be added soon.

Starting Insanity Max 30 on Monday - I plan to treat it like a job with an exact time every single day that I need to get it done. That pr... Sat, 3 Jan 2015 11:46:42 EST Struggling http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5841840 I've been struggling this week. Haven't been feeling well - not a virus or other typical sickness, but a too much sugar (cookies) and carbs (tried black bean pasta), not enough protein and vegetables. Plus, some coffee really gives me heartburn and we were out of the good stuff.

I froze the cookies I like best, so they aren't tempting me all day long.

I picked up a rotisserie chicken and vegetables for a salad for lunch yesterday and had a baked potato stuffed with v... Wed, 31 Dec 2014 09:51:09 EST Obviously not a habit yet http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5834301 Starting over again. I lost the habit of coming here to log food and fitness first, then I lost the habit of writing everything in my paper journal. So I am starting over on both habits.

Tomorrow will be Day 1 of the new streak. Today i will get everything written down on paper. Wed, 17 Dec 2014 08:25:01 EST Day 4 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5832358 My scale is showing I am .9 away from this week's goal. I should reach it by Monday. My calories are super high for yesterday. Either there is a calorie cycling effect going on or it's because i remembered to set the timer in my phone and eat every three hours. Whatever it is, I will take it! Weekends are where I usually lose all my efforts from the week. I was honest with my husband about the impact our choices on the weekend are having on my progress and he is willing to make changes... Sat, 13 Dec 2014 11:07:52 EST Day 3 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5831871 Got my calories down yesterday. Increased my fiber. Fat is still a little high, but not by much. Didn't get my workout in yet this morning. It's cold out. The house feels cold. Makes me just want to sit under a blanket snuggling my beagle. It's only the beginning of winter, missing workouts because it's cold just won't work!! Finishing up this then making myself do it. Fri, 12 Dec 2014 10:20:01 EST Day 2 - Finding motivation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5831415 I've been looking for that motivator that will keep me going. In the past the best motivator was being part of a challenge group or training for a run. I haven't been running since my last ankle injury and I miss it a lot. There was something so easy and simple about putting on my running shoes, headphones and heading out the door. I've tried to get biking to be my substitute, but it doesn't come as easy to me. I do best when my hubby, who is an avid cyclist is going for a ride with me. ... Thu, 11 Dec 2014 13:10:56 EST Day 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5831320 Much better on my calories and fat yesterday. Still need to increase my fiber.

No workout - didn't feel well. Still don't feel well today, all achy and head feels big and stuffed.

Focusing on goal setting today. Create a vision board, maybe replace the background on my SP page. Good day for it, since I don't feel well. Thu, 11 Dec 2014 10:14:13 EST Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5830757 Filled in the tracker for yesterday. I can see I am high on calories and ate too much fat. Good feedback so I can adjust. I was most successful when I used a paper journal to write things down during the day and then filled out SP the next morning. That's the habit I want to reestablish. I need to figure out a way to use sp to preplan meal more. Just not sure the best way.

I missed spin class because I overslept, but did PiYo drench at home so I wouldn't miss a day of exercis... Wed, 10 Dec 2014 09:42:58 EST The journey continues http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5830283 I had a very successful beginning to the year. Then I think my body started to really enter peri-menopause, at least that's what the test results are showing. That plus my thyroid levels going completely in the wrong direction - I've gained instead of losing. :( So I am again higher than I was this time last year.

I do not like this trend.
I do not like it at all.
Time to change this trend.
Time to change it once and for all.

I've been tracking my food... Tue, 9 Dec 2014 11:48:44 EST Running vs Biking Ramblings http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5543463 I was never one of those made to run people. I found running later in life - late 30's, and only because my gym buddy at the time thought it was a great idea. I didn't really care for it at first, but the more I did, the more I liked. In particular, I really liked how strong and fit it made my legs!! I absolutely loved how it made me feel emotionally.

Biking on the other hand was something I did most of my life. Had a paper route as a pre-teen and that's how I got around. I n... Sun, 17 Nov 2013 12:46:33 EST Starting Out http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5532664 Starting out again! Best news was my weight is lower by 5 lbs since I last visited here. I reset everything so I can watch the goal ticker count down and stay on track! I also like how it suggested setting a different goal, instead of selecting a final weight in the "healthy range" it suggested I work on getting out of obese - at least that was my interpretation because the number suggested is just that - the goal to be overweight instead of obese. I love seeing that number because it is ... Tue, 5 Nov 2013 08:00:34 EST Mistake, Injury and Other Good Things http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5332980 It's been an interesting year so far, I haven't made as much progress as I had hoped, but I think aiming high is always a good thing if you don't let what you do achieve be a disappointment.

My first big mistake of the year has turned out to be a positive in disguise. I trusted a sales person at my new gym LA Fitness too much and signed paperwork believing what he told me instead of reading it through thoroughly - rookie mistake, I know! I can hear my mom's voice in my head telli... Tue, 23 Apr 2013 12:54:29 EST March 1st = spring http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5268160 It hasn't arrived officially or even in terms of temperature, but March 1st always means the worst of winter is over. Even if we get a freak late season snow storm in April, the snow won't last. Temperatures will just keep getting warmer!

Yay!

Spring always motivates me - makes me want to get very active and eat all the great spring time vegetables.

The SP app for my phone is awesome - no excuses for not tracking everything I eat and how much I move! Those ... Fri, 1 Mar 2013 08:11:15 EST Week one done! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5260958 I've done that all so important week one! Woohoo!

Looking at the reports I can see where I need to improve. I am eating the right amount of calories, but they are coming from the wrong mix - too much fat, not enough carbs and too much protein. This is so different from the last time I did Spark, I used to eat too many calories, too much carbs and always too much protein.

Plan:

Reduce fats - I can see those specific items that need to go away.
Increase... Sat, 23 Feb 2013 11:20:19 EST On my way! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5258446 Day five of tracking everything I eat. I am loving the app for my iphone, makes it so easy there is no excuse.

Good week for exercise too. I increased all my running songs this morning so I will have longer run intervals.

Off to my training session now. Thu, 21 Feb 2013 08:30:43 EST Why http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5252492 Why can't I seem to get it all together at once?
I used to think of myself as a powerful person when I really wanted something.
Does my lack of success mean I don't really want this?
I hope not.
I signed up at a new gym end of December, brand new in fact with great equipment and no crowds, though it is getting busier. I also signed up to work with a trainer twice a week. He has taken me from completely out of shape - worse shape of my life - to feeling like I can be... Sat, 16 Feb 2013 10:35:01 EST Nov 5 2012 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5124485 Starting week three of consistently back at the gym. Inspired me to work on my water drinking as well. I definitely do not drink enough water. I filled my bottle twice today but only emptied it once. My job is getting in the way of this as well. Hard to drink huge amounts of water and then do a 3-4 hour demo. I need to figure this out - I've seen what a difference water can make in the past. Mon, 11 Jun 2012 20:56:46 EST Missing but not out http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4868487 Missed a few days of tracking. Time to make myself do it again.

Did a charity bike ride yesterday. We went with the 25 mile mostly flat course. Well, not sure about the person who decided that was flat! We cut off 2 miles in a spot where the course over lapped and I was still hard pressed to get to the finish line. Since I only rode twice so far this year and the furthest was 7 miles I think 23 miles was an amazing achievement!! Sun, 6 May 2012 06:23:43 EST Getting it done! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4862607 Really like the new trainer, she is very educated in more than just working out. I have my first official session with her scheduled for next Wednesday night. In the meantime, it is my responsibility to make sure I keep moving. Didn't do well with that this morning - my alarm didn't go off so I missed my walk with Monica :(

I have time for a short workout this morning before work, so it is time to get off here!

Wed, 2 May 2012 08:31:49 EST Doing This http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4860841 Today is a day off from work, so I plan to get some food prepared for the next few days. Making healthy choices easy.

Work on my ten pound increment chart.

Print out a couple inspirational pictures to carry around.

I meet with a new personal trainer tonight, her name is Monica, that alone should make it a done deal 41

But I plan to ask her very specific questions about her training and nutrition. Tue, 1 May 2012 09:26:26 EST Day 3 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4858720 Yesterday we celebrated my daughter's 18th birthday with lunch at Rainforest Cafe, so my calories for lunch was high and my fat was definitely not the right percentage.

This is life. That was a celebration. A big part of life, so no need to feel guilt or shame.

New day.

Read a new inspirational story this morning. Mon, 30 Apr 2012 07:40:58 EST The Joy Fit Club http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4858081 My gym buddy Monica told me about a book she bought for inspiration, The Joy Fit Club. At first I thought, I do not need another diet book, but I went to look at it in the bookstore anyways. It isn't really another diet book. Reminds me of a chicken soup for the soul combined with a cookbook. It is page, after page of inspirational stories of people who have all lost more than 100 lbs. Each story includes a little box with tips from each person and a list of what they used to eat and wha... Sun, 29 Apr 2012 19:25:57 EST Day 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4857156 Second day of logging in and tracking my food.

First day calories and percentages were right on track. Yesterday I was over on calories. I will use this first week as a measure of where I am now and a guide for where I need to make changes. Sun, 29 Apr 2012 07:35:54 EST A beginning http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4855878 I have reached a new all time high weight. Between the new full time job that is more sedentary, and the latest stress in my life I seem to just keep adding the weight on.

So it is time to take back control.

I have solved a couple of the major causes of stress. Mon, 6 Feb 2012 12:38:21 EST Week 1 - Day 6 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4721514 Tired this morning. Closed the store last night, then went to get Kelley from a dress rehearsal so it was close to midnight when I finally got to bed. Up early because I have to work this morning. Today is all about the super bowl at work - chips, dips and buffalo everything! More hours, more money and better hours too. Very excited because this position will be so much easier to fit in a steady workout routine and eat healthy snacks every few hours. Still working the old schedule until a week from Monday, so I still have to close the store a couple more times, then I am done with that!

Did my new Brazilian Butt workout this morning - it reminded me of the classes I used to take at my old gym - I loved it! Mon, 30 Jan 2012 09:34:56 EST Clean Slate http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4710892 I am starting over - yep, completely over. I spent the last two days I had off from work really cleaning my house out - clutter and long unused items are either trash, donations or in new homes. Still a couple "spots" left to tackle but the majority has been done.

I also set up a dedicated space for exercise. A space that will have no other use so I won't have to search for, move or rearrange before I begin my workout. Excuse number one removed - it can not be any more convenie... Sun, 29 Jan 2012 19:47:16 EST Whole30 Day 12 - 324 Days Until Princess Half http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4151148 It has been a mixed week. I reached the point I always get to on a very restrictive diet where I feel emotionally unwell. Quick to tears and just unable to deal with everyday issues. To me that means it is not a truly healthy diet - healthy is energized, positive and feeling well overall. So I did what any sensible person would do - I cheated. That is to say I ate some extra carbs and immediately felt balanced and 100% better.

So how will I proceed? I will continue to finish... You removed the most common allergens from your diet for 30 days, so your body can heal and feel better, stronger.
