JONNYJETPROP's SparkPeople Blog JONNYJETPROP's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community I'm still here I haven't bloged in a while. To tell the truth, it's just hard for me to do it.

As for my weight, let's just say that I'm back to working out on a regular basis. My wife has been the good one of late and she has motivated me to get back on the program.

It's been a stressful year. My company filed bankruptcy as I was training to fly a new jet. My wife was hospitalized for 3 weeks including one in the ICU. She's fully recovered now.

Other than that, life has ... Wed, 22 Aug 2012 12:13:47 EST Fun at the gliderport I hooked up with a friend of mine this last weekend. I needed to get away from the office, so I drove out to Monroe, GA. It's the home of the Mid Georgia Soaring Association. I even managed to get a back seat ride in one of their sailplanes. It had been over 20 years since I had been in a glider. Good times. We capped off the day with a simple bbq.

I'm looking forward to going home. I'm just not cut out for the office life. Tue, 18 Jan 2011 02:05:07 EST Report from ice station zebra It's been a challenging couple of days. I've been on temporary assignment in my company's HQ just outside of Atlanta. Ice has brought the city to a standstill. I walked two blocks from my hotel to the office on Monday and had great difficulty walking back. I though it was safer choice than driving. Needless to say, my exercise suffered. I just got back from the gym. It's the first time I've been since Sunday. It felt good to work up a sweat. Thu, 13 Jan 2011 22:51:18 EST I'm still here I'm not the biggest blogger by nature. My life is simply not that interesting. Like too many, I slipped a bit during the holidays. I'm firmly back on track now. I'm back in the Atlanta area for work. We're bracing for the big ice storm heading this way. I did hit the gym today and I've been eating within limits. We shall see how tomorrow and the next day will be. Signing off from soon to be ice station zebra. Sat, 8 Jan 2011 22:03:25 EST A busy Thanksgiving weekend and my wife flew for the first time! Just wrapped up my TG weekend. We did the whole turkey thing. I missed my kids, but they were at their mother's this year. I got checked out in a Cessna 182 in the morning. It beat watching the Macy's parade, although I caught the end of it. My wife and I then hopped in the car and spent the weekend in Hilton Head. My first time there and we had a great time reconnecting as a couple. We headed back to Orlando on Sunday as my wife had call. She spent most of the drive back on the phone. She wa... Tue, 30 Nov 2010 07:16:21 EST Tough times in Abu Dhabi I've positioned to Abu Dhabi this month's flying. My company has 2 MD-11F cargo airplanes flying for Etihad Airways. This is the first time I've been here since going full stream on SP and I'm finding it tough to stick with the program. All it means is a bit more effort on my part and I'll get it done. I just ate a couple of Chicken Shawarmas and then logged in to check calories. OMG!. Tomorrow is another day. I got to the gym, but the equipment was full, so I only ended up with 15 minutes on... Mon, 1 Nov 2010 17:10:30 EST Warrior Checkout I've been busy, but I finally made it out to the local airport and got checked out in a rental. 0.9 on the hobbs and I'm good to go. Of course, I had to leave the next day for work. I'm planning some trips with my wife to see if she likes flying in small planes. Fri, 29 Oct 2010 13:49:12 EST The Big Party Today was the big house warming party. As with many things in life, it has been an all consuming thing, over the past several days. My wife wanted the house to shine and all the little things done. The good news was that it's over and now I'll have more time to myself.

I did get a new first class medical for flying. My doctor was very pleased with my weight loss and my blood pressure was down. All good in my book. Sat, 23 Oct 2010 21:24:40 EST John has a new pair of shoes! I did it. I went out this morning for my first run outside. I've been doing C25K inside on the treadmill, but this was the first venture outside. My wife, a nurse practitioner, was pissed. all I heard was "you need running shoes" and "I'm not taking care of you when you hurt yourself".

So I did 2.6 miles in 31 minutes running till exhaustion and then walking 2 minutes. repeat till home.

After, I jumped in the car and drove to downtown Orlando to a running shop called the... Tue, 19 Oct 2010 20:37:58 EST Fitness Map.........Way too cool! You have to try the fitness map tool on SP. It's just way too cool. I walked 2.62 miles last night at 3.5 mph. Tue, 19 Oct 2010 06:42:45 EST Weekend wrap up. It was a birthday weekend. My older son turned 13 earlier in the month, while I was away. My step daughter turns 20 tomorrow. She managed to sprain her ankle, so there was no Universal Orlando this weekend. We just chilled and had a nice grilled steak dinner Saturday night and a pig out breakfast today. I stayed on track, although the food choices were not SP approved. My father in law picked up some menudo and fresh corn tortillas for lunch. I just arrived back from the 6 hour round trip dr... Sun, 17 Oct 2010 23:20:36 EST I'm home After flying all night long, I arrived home yesterday around noon. The first thing on a long list of things to do was sleep. Because of that, I awoke at 4am. I started by driving 5 hours round trip to check in on our "other " house. I'm still trying to sell it and deal with the bank on a short sale. I got back at 1pm and spent the rest of the day with my wife. Other than a short walk with my dog, I spent the day relaxing. I'll be at the gym early tomorrow morning. Thu, 14 Oct 2010 21:34:41 EST A brief stop at home I was able to spend today at home. The recurrent training went fine, even with the Feds looking on. That did cut into the workouts a bit. Today, I slept in late with my wife by my side. Weighed in at a 4 pound loss and then jumped into installing electrical fixtures. We then went out to lunch with my inlaws. I ate a larger than normal plate of mexican food. It was very good. I then went off to Joann's with my wife and mother in law. My wife had been eyeing a fancy sewing machine. I gave my... Sat, 9 Oct 2010 22:05:05 EST October has been busy I've been on the go it seems like non stop. I spent 8 days moving into a new home and sending some time with my wife and kids and then it was back on the road. I'm sitting in Atlanta doing a four day recurrent training class. There are only two things that strike terror in a pilot. Recurrent training and your flight physical. I have both this month. The issue is that in some small part, you place your career in the hands of somebody else. There's nothing like going into the simulator and th... Tue, 5 Oct 2010 23:00:40 EST I'm back I took a bit of time off sparking for the big move. We are in the new house and I've totally cleaned up the townhome that we had been renting. It's taken a total on the overall plan, but I've either lost a couple of pounds or stayed the same. I did transfer my gym membership and got a C25K run in. I've been just OK with the diet part. I had to eat out while we moved and got the kitchen unpacked. It was pretty funny watching my wife and mother in law try to figure out how each of them wanted t... Mon, 27 Sep 2010 16:36:34 EST 100 days of Sparkpeople I just clicked over to 100 days straight for my current log in streak. As I look back, I'm happy to report that I've lost almost 40 pounds, I've dropped 4 inches in my waist, I'm in training to run a 5K and I'm feeling better than I have in a long time. I've met some great folks that have helped encourage me along the way. It has sometimes been fairly easy, but at other times I've struggled. I'm not cured of bad eating habits, rather I keep them in check. It takes constant effort to continue ... Mon, 13 Sep 2010 22:12:13 EST I've finished week 2 of 25K I finished week two and I'm ready to start week 3. Sun, 12 Sep 2010 20:58:33 EST Coming off a rest day I'm still in the Atlanta area, working at my company's headquarters. I took yesterday off for a well deserved rest. I've been doing real well in the nutrition side of things. I came back today and ran week 2, day 2 of couch to 5K. Instead of stopping at 20-30 minutes, I took it past 5K. So my on the treadmill time was 33 minutes to cover 5K. Not an exact race, but a positive sign. Fri, 10 Sep 2010 20:45:19 EST Life in the big HQ Just hanging out. Not the drama that there was in July. I've been doing well in the diet and fitness area. I signed up for another month at a local gym. I finished the week 2, day 1 work out from couch to 5K.

I've been driving out to the local GA airport to eat lunch. It was interesting to see the NASCAR airforce out on the ramp in good numbers over the weekend. The races were in town over the holiday weekend. Tue, 7 Sep 2010 21:35:34 EST Finished week one of C25K I got the last day of week one in before the gym closed. Mon, 6 Sep 2010 00:41:23 EST On the road again After an all too brief stop at home, I'm out on the road again. This time I'm sitting in my company's HQ on union business. The reason for the back to back schedule is that we'll be moving into our new home in the middle of the month.

During the brief stop, I was able to weigh myself. I dropped 3 pounds during the two week trip. OK progress in my book. I was also able to fit into the size 42 waist pants that I never quite fit into when my wife bought them many years ago.

... Sat, 4 Sep 2010 21:15:46 EST Let's keep "Labor" in Labor Day We hear around the holidays the term "Let's keep Christ in Christmas". I hope that you can keep "Labor" in Labor Day. For those who are interested, I'll include a couple of links:

.htm

Jonnyjetprop........Proud to be a Teamster Fri, 3 Sep 2010 20:46:08 EST So it's 1am, why am I walking around the parking lot? Answer: Sparkpeople

Yesterday was a day devoted to sleep. I simply needed it and got alot of it. After awaking at 10pm, I realized that I hadn't exercised or eaten any real, hot food all day. Not to worry, the fiber bars, almonds and fruit insured that I wasn't starving. So I walked down to a local bar/restaurant with a view of the approach lights at the Bangor, ME airport and had a healthy dinner. OK, maybe I should call it breakfast. That left only the exercise column unchecked. ... Thu, 2 Sep 2010 01:27:04 EST Today's a better day Even though I was tired, I still woke up early in London to get a hour in at the hotel gym. I then walked to a local market and scored some berries on sale along with some apples for the flight to the states. As I sit here now in Philadelphia waiting for my connecting flight I'm 600 calories below my target, not above it like yesterday. Sleep will come when I get to Maine. Mon, 30 Aug 2010 18:07:22 EST I'd love to tell you today was a successful day, but....... It started with the best intentions. I arrived in Nairobi and figured I could make it without eating in the hotel. Plans changed and had to take a later flight. The problem is the only breakfast option was a buffet. My weakness. I did OK by my standards but I knew I was going to have to be good. Arrived London having only eat the minimum food off the flight. I ended up walking 90 minute to get some exercise and some money. After getting sidetracked by a longer walk I picked up some Indian tak... Sun, 29 Aug 2010 18:15:52 EST Bumming around Brugge It's been a very busy week for me. In the drive for efficiency, my schedule has been pushed to the limit. I finally have a bit of downtime in Belgium. I've been doing real well with food and exercise, but sleep has been lacking. despite the light rain, I walked around town for over an hour and avoided most of the diet sinners in Belgium. I did have a bit of chocolate and a waffle, but all were tracked. I made it to the hotel gym for an hour on the treadmill and I've been doing push ups in the... Thu, 26 Aug 2010 16:40:42 EST Walking for Lobster Here I am in Maine, just hanging out at a less than great hotel. The normal crew hotel is sold out and I'm bummed. No exercise equipment (working) at the hotel and no gym to go to. what's a guy to do. I walked an hour to a local lobster place for a nice, healthy lobster dinner. Stayed in range and got two hours of walking in. Not too bad. Fri, 20 Aug 2010 20:03:38 EST Random thoughts from seat 9A I had some time to think about the changes I been making as I was flying along in seat 9a. American was even more helpful by sitting outside our gate in Dallas for an extra 20 minutes.

I didn't lose a single pound this last week and it's not a bad thing. I'm in this for the long haul. I was thinking of all the other good things that my life style change has brought. For one, I'm fitting in seat 9A far more comfortably than I used to. Maybe loosing 30+ pounds is a good thing. Runni... Thu, 19 Aug 2010 12:26:10 EST The house just got alot more empty Today was a busy day. We packed up my step daughter and moved her to her college apartment and then we dropped off my two sons after their final summer visit. Except for my inlaws and our pets, the whole place just got a whole lot quieter. Tue, 17 Aug 2010 21:24:40 EST My dog Buster has lost 7 pounds on Sparkpeople! My dog has lost weight using SP. (OK, his owner has lost a couple of pounds too!)

Here's the scoop. Took my dog to the vet. They weighed him and the vet asked me what's up and I told him that I've been working on losing weight and it includes walking the dog. He laughed and told me to keep it up. Sat, 14 Aug 2010 18:59:46 EST mixed success As I said good bye to my parents and wished them a good trip home tomorrow, my day was only a mixed success. I stayed on track in the nutrition department but I didn't go to the gym. Too many less than 8 hours of sleep nights caught up to me and I slept thru the alarm.

The old me might obsess with the not exercising part, the new me takes the holistic view. I still had a good week.

Fri, 13 Aug 2010 21:07:53 EST A good day My parents, kids and my wife visited the new house under construction. We then went out to lunch. For dinner, the kids and I went to my parent's hotel to swim in the pool and have dinner. Pizza was on the menu, but I made a big salad and brought some cut up watermelon.

For me, it was enjoying time with the family and staying on track with my diet. A success all around. Thu, 12 Aug 2010 22:09:03 EST My parents are in town I picked up my two boys today and then my parents flew in from the West Coast. My wife prepared a wonderful dinner that was tasty, but also allowed me to stay on track. Wed, 11 Aug 2010 21:54:00 EST House a month away My wife just got the call. The new house is about a month away. We went to the house tonight. My wife loves the kitchen. We went out for dinner after, so I went over my cals slightly for the day. Tue, 10 Aug 2010 20:58:51 EST A rough weekend It was great getting back into the cockpit after spending a month at HQ. I got slammed over the weekend and had great trouble staying on track. I did get right back into my groove today though. Mon, 9 Aug 2010 20:34:07 EST I love delays, NOT! Let's see, we'll launch at 5am. Let's make it 1pm. OK, maybe we'll try it tomorrow. Nothing like flying a plane out of a maintenance base. The delay did allow for extra sleep, a hour on the hotel treadmill and a trip downtown to buy healthier options to eat. I guess it's not all bad. Wed, 4 Aug 2010 20:48:25 EST Goodbye 25 I stepped on the scale this morning. I'm down 26 pounds from my starting weight. I'd like to say a few words to the lost pounds. Sorry guys, I won't be missing you. I'm over you. You won't be invited back. "El Gordo Captain" is changing. Next stop, goal weight! Sat, 31 Jul 2010 22:37:13 EST Happy Camper I'm home and hanging out with the wife and my dog. It was a long day starting a 4am and ending now at 10pm. I wasn't able to exercise because of working and driving 7 hours. I'm OK with it. I watched my diet and the gym will be open in the morning. It's not all or nothing. Fri, 30 Jul 2010 22:15:43 EST Reflections on a successful business trip It's not that the business aspect wasn't successful. I wanted too reflect on the SP part of the trip. I stayed on track in both nutrition and exercise. All in all, a successful trip. Thu, 29 Jul 2010 22:36:45 EST Dinner with an old friend I took time out to have dinner with an old friend. I drove to his home in Eastern Atlanta. It was nice to see his wife again and his children for the first time. I was happy with the comments about the change in my appearance.

I was happy too that I was still able to steer clear of potential diet traps. I enjoyed the grilled steak, nice salad and small baked potato. I limited the cheese and crackers before the dinner and skipped desert. Despite a busy day, I still was able to hit ... Tue, 27 Jul 2010 01:11:26 EST New belt required I'm happy to report that I required a new belt. I've dropped from a 46 waist to a 44 fitting loosely. Progress. Sun, 25 Jul 2010 17:35:53 EST Hanging out I took some time off from my "office visits" at company HQ to drive to Aircraft Spruce. I picked up a copy of a G1000 guidebook. Boy, have things changed. Now, if I can only retrofit the Garmin G1000 into a MD-11. Thu, 22 Jul 2010 23:45:01 EST I'm 300 lbs again I weighed myself today. I'm 300 lbs again. Considering that I weighed 322 at my last medical, I'm doing OK. I haven't weighed less than 300 since 2001, so I'm looking forward to passing that mark on my way to my goal weight. Tue, 20 Jul 2010 21:33:41 EST Getting ready for a checkout I spent the day brushing up on the VFR regs. I drove around a couple of airports and have found a place renting a Piper Warrior close to where our new home is being built. I'll arrange to get checked out next month. Mon, 19 Jul 2010 20:37:08 EST To my wife We celebrated our 7th year anniversary tonight. While I went a bit over on the calories (600 to be exact), it's a once a year event. The alarm is set for 4:40 in the morning to hit the gym.

Thanks honey for 7 great years and hoping for many more. Sun, 18 Jul 2010 21:25:47 EST Fun day with the family I'm wrapping up a great day with the whole family. The boys are going back to their mother's house tomorrow. We took the boys to one of the Orlando area attractions. We then went out to dinner at a Maggiano's Little Italy. My self control to portion control was topped by the unexpected good table manors of my special needs son.

With the food under control and a good, hard workout in the early morning, I was able to stay on track and not feel guilty. Wed, 14 Jul 2010 20:32:13 EST Full House I'm a happy camper. The boys are over, so it makes for a very full house. I love it. Sun, 11 Jul 2010 15:57:28 EST Because I'm worth it! Today I joined a gym. Mind you, I'm a member of a gym at home. No, I joined a gym in a swanky suburb of Atlanta. I'm on assignment this month and will be spending about two weeks here at company HQ. The hotel, although nice, has the poorest excuse for an exercise room. So I hopped in my car, drove down the road and signed up for a month at a local gym. I spent some cash, but I'm dripping in sweat having just come back from a long hard workout. Why did I do this? Because I'm worth it! Tue, 6 Jul 2010 19:59:21 EST A minor victory When I got home from my trip, I noticed that my pants were loose. I was packing for a trip to headquarters, so I decided to go to the section of the closest reserved for pants that didn't fit. Well, they do now 334 Sun, 4 Jul 2010 22:18:34 EST Looking back on my latest trip I just found out the my last live trip for work has been cancelled and I'm going home. This was my first trip after my renewed efforts to get my physical life under control. Like everything else, there was the good and the bad. My biggest gold star moment was after a 21 hour duty day, I realized that I hadn't exercised for the calendar day. So instead of a beer with the boys or hitting the pillow, I hit the gym at the hotel. I only did 30 minutes of cardio, but it was something. I was able to... Thu, 1 Jul 2010 15:22:56 EST
