I've gained about 10 to 15 lbs. within a year, and I'm not proud of it one bit. Amazing how much it kills my self esteem! The hardest part for me is sticking to a workout routine. I generally eat healthy (thanks, mom, for instilling healthy eating habits at a young age!), but I fall off the bandwagon hard beginning Friday night lasting well through the weekend. Sometimes even lasting through Mondays, because, well, Mondays sometimes suck.

I've... Thu, 12 Sep 2013 15:47:10 EST It's About Mental Health, Too http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5200346 One thing I notice on my days that I workout in the mornings: my mood is much happier throughout the entire day. Not that I can't have an enjoyable day on my rest days (those are important for recovery), but there's just something about morning workouts that I love.

Oddly enough, I still don't consider myself a morning person. Winter mornings in the Midwest are even worse. You mean I have to roll out of my warm bed while it's still dark out, scrape my car windows, freeze my buns o... Thu, 10 Jan 2013 11:14:53 EST The Perks of Committing to a Race http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5034587 With only 25 days left until the wedding (insert obligatory eeek! here), I'm definitely feeling a bit nervous. That's why running and exercising is even more important these days - it calms me down and makes me feel great about myself.

Since the Indy Mini Marathon back in May, I've signed up to run the PU half marathon on Oct. 20 with my sister, who is a student there, and the Disney Princess Run on Feb. 24 with a few friends. Both races have their unique challenges for me to over... Tue, 28 Aug 2012 12:03:13 EST Pre-race jitters http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4863022 So, the Indy Mini Marathon is finally here. I did okay with my training. Just okay. I did all of my long-distance runs; could have done better with my shorter runs during the weeks. I fell off the diet bandwagon for an entire week, too. Thankfully I am back on track and just had a minor setback.

The weather is going to be in the 80s and there is a chance of rain, but that does not bother me too much. What bothers me is that I am worrying about the things that could happen making m... Wed, 2 May 2012 12:11:48 EST 5 Layer Greek Dip http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4820234 Easter weekend is almost here, and since we're a Catholic family, my Pinterest-obsessed sister and I are searching for healthy, meatless recipes to enjoy on Good Friday. Here's a incredibly simple one we found and can't wait to make!

5 Layer Greek Dip (courtesy of The Lovely Cupboard blog):

www.thelovelycupboard.com/2011/09/5-
layer-greek-dip.html

SHOPPING LIST:

-Hummus (to make it even easier, we chose store bought over homemade... Wed, 4 Apr 2012 12:07:29 EST Exercise plan that works for me http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4763029 It is tough for me to stick to a workout plan whether it is due to boredom, life getting in the way or lack of motivation. I have created a plan that works for me:

1.) Signed up to run the Indy Mini-Marathon on May 5, 2012 with a friend who keeps me accountable. Plus, I have found a ton of motivation by giving myself a tangible goal (i.e. finish the mini-marathon) to work toward.

2.) Joined my local YMCA (no excuses to skip running if the weather is harsh).

3.... Wed, 29 Feb 2012 09:28:49 EST People are noticing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4747665 I have dropped about 10 lbs and toned up a considerable amount since I became serious about my weight-loss goals. After you begin an exercise/diet, they say it takes 4 weeks for you to notice your body changing, 8 weeks for your friends and family and 12 weeks for the rest of the world.

My brother came home from college last weekend and said "You look really skinny." I rolled my eyes thinking he was messing with me, but he said "I am serious!" Like most brothers and sisters we lik... Mon, 20 Feb 2012 12:16:42 EST Fiance back on track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4738426 I have to brag a bit about my fiance - he has been working out for two weeks straight after a few months' hiatus. For about five months last year, he did Insanity and stuck with it on fairly regular basis throughout the week. Not to the degree Shaun T wants you to, but hey, he was seeing results so it worked for him.

Then he fell off the bandwagon around Thanksgiving. It was a huge bummer to see him go from feeling and looking great to back to his unhealthy habits of skipping work... Tue, 14 Feb 2012 11:53:16 EST Only 3.5 lbs away from goal weight! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4724889 I stepped on the scale, saw 138.5 lbs, said "no way!", then weighed myself again. Can hardly believe it, but it is an incredible feeling being this close to my goal weight. It has certainly been a battle, but it is so encouraging to see these results. The best part? I am still motivated to stick to my workout routine and healthy eating plan. In the past, it was so easy to resort back to unhealthy habits or give myself some leeway once I hit a milestone. Not this time! Once I hit 135 lbs, I am... Mon, 6 Feb 2012 10:15:35 EST Yummy Baked Flatbread with Spinach and Feta http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4698549 I am not much of a cook, but I have been trying to whip up some easy, healthy dishes. While I watched the fate of the Patriots/Baltimore game yesterday, I made this tasty meal:

Spinach and Feta Pita Bake

Here is the link to the original recipe: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/spinach-and-f
eta-pita-bake/detail.aspx

- 6 (6 inch) whole wheat pita breads
- 1 (6 ounce) tub sun-dried tomato pesto
- 2 roma (plum) tomatoes, chopped
- 1 bunch spinach, ... Mon, 23 Jan 2012 10:10:59 EST I Hate Running...So I Signed Up for a Mini-Marathon http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4671012 I know that doesn't make a lot of sense, but a friend recently asked me if I was interested in doing the 2012 Indy Mini-Marathon. My initial reaction was "heck no!", but then I slowly came up with more ideas to do it than not to.

Why I decided to sign up:

1.) I liked the idea of having a date to work toward. May 5, 2012 is the day of the race and my overall goal. Plus, it's such a rewarding feeling every day when I complete the daily miles recommended for beginners while... Tue, 10 Jan 2012 10:41:39 EST
