Yesterday I had a 9 mile run on my plate. I couldn't have asked for a better day for it! Sunny and 70's on January 31st, are you kidding me?? My friend, Tanya, and I went to the country for this particular run. This was her time running the bottom, but I have put many miles on these roads. We did a 2 mile out and back, pushing past the discomfort the hills brought. We took a potty break before we headed in the opposite direction for the remaining 7 miles. I didn't hide the fact that I was re... Mon, 1 Feb 2016 11:25:15 EST Sometimes it's hard to be good! This past week was full of good and bad choices or no choices. It started with traveling to Lexington this past Tuesday evening. I went ahead and splurged for dinner know it was probably my last decent meal for sometime. Steak, baked potato and a salad. You see this is the week we have been working up to Since July. Hubby was to finally have his shoulder replacement. I didn't want to get a salad and have to be jealous of his fabulous looking steak!!

Wednesday morning we were greete... Mon, 25 Jan 2016 14:46:01 EST Injuries and expectations! 2015 in a nutshell. I started 2015 strong, I trained hard all winter, even finding myself on snow days running up to 8 miles in the gym. Lost some ground due to an injury, but made up for it biking and using an elliptical. I completed my first half marathon injury free in April, my 2nd in May. In July I visited a foot doctor with the expectations of having a stress fracture. Plantar Fascitis was the diagnosis. Stretching and steroids, icing and a few days off seemed to be the cure.

I continued my trai... Thu, 14 Jan 2016 13:02:47 EST So thankful for God's graces! I cannot say it, think it or feel it enough! I am so thankful that God has given me a 2nd chance at life! I hate that I wasted so many years living in a shell that didn't allow my spirit to soar. Nothing makes me feel more alive then putting miles and miles behind me on the road surrounded by loving and caring friends who encourage me and push me to be better!

When you find that which becomes your passion, cherish it and care for it! Don't overdo it causing injury to yourself, our ... Fri, 13 Feb 2015 14:55:52 EST Trying new things and meeting new people!

I was invited be a facebook group to join a group hike, I had a 5 mile run on tap but decided to jump out of my comfort zone and go out and meet these new people. I had a really good time, every one was very friendly and encouraging. Looking forward to the next one! 3.35 miles hikes and 5 miles run yesterday! Sun, 30 Nov 2014 18:59:23 EST Columbus 26.2 Miles, my first Marathon

2 days post and barely any signs left that I just ran my first marathon! So glad I made a plan and stuck to it! Trusting yourself and your training is so key in success! One thing I can say for sure is 26.2 is humbling! My plan to run 3 minutes and walk 1 took me to the end of the marathon in 5:03.51.

Miles 1-12 1/2 I was with my friend Sara, she had promised me the day before she was sticking with me. ... Tue, 21 Oct 2014 16:38:32 EST Wow, this time next week I will be a Marathoner! Nothing more can be done, no more tweaking, no more worrying. Just rest, hydrate, trust the training!! Pray! I'm terrified and excited!! Sun, 12 Oct 2014 20:22:47 EST God painted a beautiful Half Marathon

It was surely a beautiful start to a beautiful Adams County Half Marathon. A cool crisp morning and the air was so fresh! I was somewhat nervous doing this whole 4:1 thing, uncertain if I could keep up with the speedy ladies on the run parts and especially make it to the end of the 13.1. I spoke with one of the girls friday and she said I could totally keep up and if I needed to I could go on ahead. I laughed that ... Mon, 29 Sep 2014 16:33:37 EST Tomorrow is the longest ever miles I'll do yet!! I won't lie, I am a bit nervous to be setting out at 7am to do 16 miles! I am super
thankful for a great support system and all of the girls that plan to come out and
pound the pavement with me! The first 10 miles will be a hilly loop back to the start where we will bring a 2nd group of people, have potty breaks as needed and head out to do a 6 mile out and back. I am providing bananas, bagels and water, we are all going to deserve a snack after this crazy business! Woot woot! Wish ... Fri, 29 Aug 2014 16:48:10 EST Ever stronger and totally digging it dude! I remember reading an article in Runner's World about recovery runs a while back. I went for a 13.1 mile run with friends and went out the next evening to try for a couple of slow miles to see how it felt. Oh my it was painfully slow and all I could muster was 2 miles. The article read that doing this was equivalent to doing the 13 miles the day before and ya know what, I believe it!

I hung up the idea of recovery runs for a while, but have been doing them for the past several week... Tue, 26 Aug 2014 14:05:26 EST Challenging 5k followed by an awesome Half Marathon!! I know most people don't do a 5k and run a half marathon this next day, but my mind says your are not trying for a 5k PR, but I never really hold back much! Finished in 28:20 and I'll take that with that crazy hill at the end!

And I got 2nd place in my age group!!

I would recommend, if you live anywhere with in reasonable distance, a... Mon, 18 Aug 2014 12:50:49 EST Shew! My 27s are back! I was worried last week end when I took so many walk breaks during my 5k race as was unable to continue my streak of being in the 27 time range. Not that 28 and a half is bad, it's still really good! Friday evening was hot and humid, and with only one walk break I was back in the high 27s! Shew! Wish I hadn't taken the walk break looking back on it. I am working on keeping most of my runs NOT following the Galloway walk/run so I can get that feeling like I meed to walk out of my head. Anythin... Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:17:15 EST An inspiration, a ministry, and honor!? Yesterday's 5k was harder than I had expected coming off my long run Friday night, it was just plain hot and humid and my legs were not fresh, it was hard to breathe. I finished in 28:22 with a ton of walking! When the race was over, at least for me, I was bummed about my time, I had so wanted to set a new PR, really wanted to get into those 26's, but it just wasn't my day.

While stretching and talking to some friends I had a lady approach me, she told me she had been following me... Sun, 13 Jul 2014 14:08:07 EST Do you have a Godly goal? With all of the goals I have set forth on here, to run this many half marathons, this many marathons, reach and maintain this weight, eat more veggies, drink more water, run more, walk more, etc., I just realized I have forgotten to set my Godly goals. I thank God for the motivation which has brought me to a healthy time in my life, for my fitness and healthy weight. I praise God for giving me friends whom challenge me and encourage me to do more, be better and who trust in my ability to com... Tue, 8 Jul 2014 14:57:57 EST Rolling hills they said! Am I the only runner that has a "hill day"? That is the day you train your body to push beyond it's comfort zone, your lungs hurt after, you work muscles everywhere and you are definitely not doing it for fun, but it builds you and makes you stronger and faster and THAT is why you do it!

The first 3 miles of The Biggest Loser Half Marathon were gorgeous, running along the Kanawha River with a nice breeze, great conversation and nice speed. I felt strong and confident, I watched the... Sun, 29 Jun 2014 14:51:53 EST My shirt for TBL half tomorrow! Look, you'll love it!

My friend and a local race director had it made for me, I am so super excited for tomorrow!! Wish me luck! Fri, 27 Jun 2014 14:33:32 EST and that's a wrap... And that's a wrap: With yet another 12 week 1/2 marathon training program seeing it's final long run, a gorgeous yet humid and deer fly infested (only a couple of miles) 8 mile run with some amazing, strong, determined ladies, the emotions are playing on me me a bit.

The Biggest Loser RunWalk Race Series has huge meaning for me, some people will walk their first 5k, some run it, some walk or run their first 1/2 marathon, some try for personal records for either. All while inspiring... Sat, 21 Jun 2014 23:21:04 EST Poll: 2 Marathons in 2 weeks? I need to know, how possible is it that you can do your first marathon run/walk and do either another full or a half 2 weeks later?? Thu, 19 Jun 2014 16:45:07 EST Just 12 days left!!!! Biggest Loser 1/2 Marathon! In just 12 days I'll be running my 3rd timed half marathon, my 5th 13.1 or more miles and my 3rd half marathon this month and even better, in my eyes, it is the Biggest Loser run/walk series! I am beyond excited!!

This week started my taper runs and for the first time since my 5 mile run I ran it alone and not in a group. I probably really over did it, see my training partner just ran a half marathon this week-end with her husband and another one in our running group. They finished... Mon, 16 Jun 2014 13:15:07 EST The STORM that ruined hill repeats!

It was amazing to watch this as the 11 of us stood waiting on the others to arrive to begin the daunting task of hill repeats. A weekly ritual which I give credit for making my 5k time slip into the 27 minute range. The storm filled clouds moved swiftly and what was to follow was a whirl wind of wind, rain and uprooted trees which left so many without power even into today. Our group ran for cover and hunkered in ... Wed, 11 Jun 2014 11:35:52 EST 16 miles, I did that??? I'm in training for my 3rd half marathon, so I feel almost confident, but not all the way. I decided, when my training partner decided she wanted to run 13.1 early, after only a max 10 mile run for me, that I wanted to do it too! So I did it, being awarded a really nice metal! That was last week-end, but then I decided I didn't want to max at 13 before the half, I wanted to exceed it. I decided to do 15 this week, however, time, running groups and things ended up changing my plan. I discovere... Sun, 8 Jun 2014 21:20:35 EST Why run when you can fly? Ran another 5k last night, big surprise I know!! Haha This one was a challenge as I know it would be! It started with downward rolling hills and flats and did a little turn around and back up. I knew if I was going to be anywhere near my times I've had to really kick in on the down hill. It was basically a tad over 1 1/2 miles down. I did my first mile in 7 mins 14 secs, my very fastest mile ever. Had to walk a tad during mile 3, about a 30 second recovery walk after I crested one of the hil... Fri, 6 Jun 2014 13:31:06 EST Negative Nelly in my running group, I can't improve?? I think I will make this short and sweet, I honestly just realized how tired I am!

Friday: Ran a 7pm 86 degree 5k, finished in 28 flat, I can deal with that!
Saturday: Ran 13.25 hot sweaty I have a lot to learn miles.
Also Saturday I learned that a girl from my local running group, in response to my pleasant taunting of another runner "I will catch up some day" responded by telling me I was dreaming if I ever thought I could catch her.

Ok, now lets analyze this... Sun, 1 Jun 2014 22:40:14 EST Tomorrow is another 5k, and 13.1 miles to do on Saturday. Oh BTW... I'll start with the BTW....It is official, I have signed up for the Nationwide Columbus, OH Marathon. Oh crap!! Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap!!!! Well happy belated birthday to me and dear Heavenly Father, stay with me!!

Enough of that business! Tomorrow I have another 5k and I am really excited, almost to the point of having pre-race jitters, which I have not had in a very long time! I'm not going to throw any numbers out there, just going to go and do my very best. Saturday I am taki... Thu, 29 May 2014 14:32:26 EST Happy Memorial Day and another visit to 27 land! I blog for several reasons, to encourage others and to help my failing memory recap events most of all! It is so normal for me to be telling someone about my week and have no clue what day I did what!

After my confirmation 5k on Saturday I rested a ton and prepared for 10 miles sunday evening. I had anticipated this run being just like the others this training session, NOT GOOD, but with a new training partner and a new plan, we had an average pace of 11:0, with 4 min running/30 se... Mon, 26 May 2014 21:16:16 EST The big fear, my PR fluke, battle tested today! Told my running friends I was worried that my two of 3 5k's in 3 days that ended with 2 personal records would end up being a fluke. They assured me I was "fast" and that the "hill work' and "training" were working. I headed out this sunny, crisp morning knowing this was an out and back and knowing there would be a narrow walkway running along side the bridge going over the Big Sandy River. If you are not familiar with an out and back it means just that you turn around and run right back to w... Sat, 24 May 2014 21:30:18 EST Day 4 of running = yet another PR! I guess when you reach complete exhaustion you sleep until an hour before race time, or 1 pm on a Sunday, missing church and not even realizing that you have been asleep for 15 hours! Boy I WAS tired! However, after a PR Friday night of 27:50 and a 9 mile run Saturday I managed to get 1st in my age group, 5th overall female and a new PR of 27:00.6. I have a lot to prove in the coming weeks!!! Totally enjoying a day of rest, at work, lol Mon, 19 May 2014 11:49:19 EST My week thus far, plus a little more. Last friday was a rest day and I am thankful that I took it!

Saturday: 8 awesome hilly miles with my bestie!
Sunday: 4 1/2 speedy walking miles
Monday: 5 extremely hot and humid sweaty miles!
Tuesday: 4 mile speedy walk
Wednesday: Today will be hill repeats
Thursdays, will be a 3 mile birthday run.
Friday night at midnight is 5k,
Saturday is is a long run, 9 miles.
Sunday I will rest! Wed, 14 May 2014 13:50:01 EST Mother's Day, the athlete in me won't rest! Even through tears! I had an amazing Mother's Day! It started with a wonderful gift that brought tears to my eyes! As if I was not already emotional enough! Before I show you, no I haven't accomplished this yet, but the fact that she believes enough in me to already have gifted me with this means the world to me and I am even more determined!

After church and back home I wanted a picture to remember this day!
<img src="htt... Mon, 12 May 2014 12:06:22 EST Hill repeats, 94 degrees, age is just a number! Just a few days ago I was ranting about how I would never run in the heat again! I do have a tendency to proclaim things only to find it was just in heat of the moment. After spending a couple of hours wrapped in a wet towel with my hair wet and tangled trying to re hydrate after a long 7 miles that I was clearly under hydrated for, I said NO MORE! Looking back I know that I can handle the heat, I just have to hydrate well and slow down, taking full advantage the walk breaks as needed. Mental... Thu, 8 May 2014 15:23:11 EST Video, my 1st of 43 challenges for my 43rd bday. I have asked my facebook friends to challenge me every day this month for my birthday. I'll be 43 on the 21st. Today's challenge, jump rope for 43 minutes. She also asked for video, so when she came by we did this. I'm still working on it, it's a challenge when we have customers coming in and out of the store all day and a challenge itself for sure! Thu, 1 May 2014 14:47:41 EST A revisit to the past, I'm going to do it again!

urnal_individual.asp?blog_id=3704220

A friend is going to join me and we are going to kick some tail!! Wed, 23 Apr 2014 21:44:45 EST I won a half marathon! Today was an important day for my buddy, Dick. After months of preparation Jen's Bunny Hop 5k took place today without a hitch, 167 registered, 131 finished and I was 23rd.
1st in my age group again and this time only by 7 seconds.

Ok, I set a teaser in place, so I won a free entry into Adam's County Ohio half or full marathon as a door prize! I'm super stoked!! Sat, 19 Apr 2014 23:17:08 EST Maybe owning the 5# helped! I feel like I struggled a bit during this half training trying to feed myself well so that I wouldn't lose weight, but not too much so that I wouldn't gain. I know I over ate some on the week-ends, knowing I needed the calories, because I was burning so much! I know I gained muscle because I increased my weights and faithfully went to zumba and toning 2-3 days per week. I can see the difference!!! I updated my ticker to own up to the 5 lb gain. Training was over so time to pull it back and ge... Thu, 17 Apr 2014 11:48:11 EST This may very well be a season that I am one to watch! Another 5k today and only 6 days post 1/2 marathon. I ran over 22 miles this week, that is just crazy to me! I don't know if I am still on a runners high, but I set a new PR today and got first place in my age group by 11 minutes. (I could have stopped and taken a break) Glad I didn't though!

So glad to have this support system and we all placed! Everyone in the 5k Crew placed today!!
<img src="http://ph... Sat, 12 Apr 2014 21:09:52 EST Can I brag for a minute? New 1/2 Marathon PR. I really feel like I do have bragging rights at this point!! I ran my 2nd 1/2 marathon yesterday in Xenia, Oh. Very little sleep the night before because being from Kentucky there was no way I was going to be in bed when the Wildcats were playing in the final four! Woohoo, they won!!

Ok back to the race! If you want to call it a race when you are not expecting to win, just to do your best and finish, so I gues... Mon, 7 Apr 2014 17:40:56 EST Hills upon hills we go! I really need to work on hills, Sunday's 5k was a hilly one and I did it in 31:45. Yikes!

7th overall female, 1st in my age group. Mon, 31 Mar 2014 23:31:18 EST Registered!! Did it!! I signed up for the Biggest Loser 1/2 Marathon in Charleston, WV at the end of June. I have time right?? Finish the April 6th 1/2, rest a week, start training again. 12 weeks exactly between the two. Technically I don't need to start training at the bottom, as long as I maintain a minimum 6 mile run each week for a few weeks and I can run 2 3's and make the rest peeriod a little long without stressing my body out. I think?? LOL I'm excited! Fri, 21 Mar 2014 15:09:30 EST 2nd 5k of 2014 A little faster than last week....30:13 and last week was 30:19...this was a super hilly run, I'm sore and I ran 6 yesterday and 9 to do tomorrow!

3rd in my age group 40-49 Sat, 15 Mar 2014 23:15:55 EST I'm so excited I could cry!!! I knew this, but had forgotten about it and I am so excited that someone in my running crew posted about it on Facebook! Biggest loser is hosting a 5k and a half marathon in Charleston, WV in June! Oh I bet you know what girl just picked her 2nd half for the year!!!! I could pee my pants!!!!!!!!!
Thu, 13 Mar 2014 14:17:57 EST 1st 5k of 2014 I've put in over 100 miles so far this year running, but today was the 1st official 5k I've done. It was for Developmental Disabilities, great cause and some super special young people came out and participated. I wasn't sure how I was going to do, my last race was in December and I've been getting under 30 minutes quite often. When we took off and it started uphill I struggled. I focused on just passing as many people as I could and tried hard to catch my friend Sara, I got closer and closer... Sat, 8 Mar 2014 12:41:20 EST What to do and how to prepare for it??? Well as time goes on and the more people I talk to, spend time around and the more people learn about my story things keep happening. Today I got an email asking me to do an hour long presentation to a "jogging" course at Ohio University about my journey and my love of running. I don't know where to begin!!!!!!! Mon, 24 Feb 2014 21:38:17 EST Measuring tape of success...why I needed this. After reaching my goal weight on 1/10/14 of 140 pounds I have watched the scale fluctuate hovering just above that goal from 1-4 lbs. I knew this was going to happen and I am fine with it. At some point I'll actually get below and that is ok too. With that said I decided to step back into a previous habit of using the good ole measure tape. So last Monday we measured (waist, chest, hips, thigh, upper arm and neck) and while the scale jumped from 142.8 my weigh in day on friday to 144 today ... Mon, 10 Feb 2014 14:41:59 EST It breaks my heart! Why?????????? UPDATED When I found you I was never happier, you comforted me when I needed comfort, supported my healthy lifestyle and gave me hope for the future. Most of all you tasted amazing!! So please tell me why??? Why have they discontinued my Lay's Light Fat Free chips??? This is serious business, I just emailed Lay's to ask them. To be continued....

Just got got this email:

Hi Julie,

Thanks for w... Wed, 29 Jan 2014 14:29:17 EST 40 miles in 3 weeks, chhhha-ching! Didn't think I could do it and I still have 5 days left! Boooyah Sun, 26 Jan 2014 23:29:37 EST Reached my goal weight!!!! In 2008 I embarked on a journey to lose over 100 lbs and today I hit my goal weight of 140 lbs!!!!!!!! I am very proud of myself, I have done the yo-yo diet stuff, lost and gained the same 50 pounds since my first son was born 22 years ago. I finally "get it"! You don't diet, you eat to fuel your body, you move to energize you body, you have to accept the flaws and what the years have done to you and be reborn by the journey. The journey never ends and who would want it to?? *happy dance* Tha... Fri, 10 Jan 2014 12:09:52 EST 40 mile challenge 1/6/2014-1/31/2014 So I joined this group challenge with my local running group and it started yesterday. The goal is to get 40 miles in before the 31st and of course it started with my dreadmill in storage and an arctic freeze across most of the country. So yesterday I closed up shop early, people weren't really coming in anyway and went home to do some serious purging. Several years ago we enclosed a porch off my bedroom and made it the laundry/giant walk in closet. I have been purging from there as well, two... Tue, 7 Jan 2014 11:07:57 EST Where I was on Jan 1st 2014 ...where to begin? My journey is not perfect, I have flawed, I have had setbacks, I have fallen and laid still for a while, only to get back up and start over. Yet, as well so many here on SP it is a testimony that anyone regardless of age, size or shape can make a change for the better. Baby steps is where I started. 2013 brought into my life a love like I never dreamed. The love of running. I cannot imagine life standing still now. Every day I have to make the conscience effort to make good... Thu, 2 Jan 2014 13:34:02 EST Registered and paid for my next Half Marathon, let the training begin, well in a little over a week :) Sun, 29 Dec 2013 21:29:28 EST Next half decided, Xenia, OH, April 6th!! So I have asked questions and have decided on my 1st of 3 half marathons for 2014. This is so affordable that I can't pass up the opportunity and sharing a hotel room with 3 other ladies from my running group makes it that much doable. I am super excited to register in a couple of weeks and make this is commitment! I have to say as stressed out as I made myself about the last half it was apparent to me as soon as I crossed the finish line that I HAD to do another one! This is the one, Xenia h...
