Mon, 6 Jun 2011 12:04:21 EST Conquering my fear http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4265397 Have you ever had a defining moment in your life? Something that you can look back on and say, “Yes, my life changed right then.” My defining moment was August 13, 2000, when I had a horrible, horrible bicycle accident. I fell over a retaining wall and landed about 10’ down. The fall crushed my right shoulder, resulting in 4 surgeries, including 3 replacements over the past 10 years. Being right handed, the broken shoulder completely changed my way of doing things. Unbeknownst to me, my origi... Mon, 30 May 2011 16:05:42 EST Natural Bridge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4218205 Yesterday was a lovely, lovely day. It started with a 5K race at Natural Bridge (Kentucky). The mountains were foggy when we got there.

It was a good race. It started out on the road, went up hill for a mile. We turned a corner and crossed a swinging bridge

After the bridge, we were on a single lane path for about a mile and a... Sun, 8 May 2011 12:43:46 EST Purple hair... Seemed like a good idea at the time ;-) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4200320 Okay, so what am I doing?? Yesterday I decided to get my hair cut really short. Then I decided, what the heck. I'm going radically short, let's go radically fun. I opted for a purple streak!! Yes, you heard me. Purple. Hahaha... I've got such crappy hair, anyway, so I figured I may as well do something fun with it. I'm tired of looking at my hair and saying, "Ugh."

This morning I'm trying to figure out exactly what to do with my short hair. It's sort of just there, with a giant pu... Sat, 30 Apr 2011 12:18:59 EST Reclaiming my inner Pixie http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4198143 Yesterday I went out for a run through my neighborhood. I’d already run 3 miles and was getting a little bit sweaty (okay, maybe a lot sweaty), when suddenly a cute little 7 yr old boy came running down a hill hollering, “Aunt Pixieeeeeee!!” Then he came up and gave me the biggest hug, with my sweatiness and everything. He absolutely didn’t care that I was sweaty. I talked to him a few minutes, and then he ran off to play, and I continued my run.

About the Pixie thing… All my famil... Fri, 29 Apr 2011 08:48:27 EST Stop the clock!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4163980 This evening I went for a run after work. I wasn't sure how it would go. I had planned to change into my running clothes before leaving the office, and then hit the road running either in the park or the cemetery before I drove home. But the car I sold my sister on Saturday night (cheap car, but still very much capable of getting her from here to there) decided that today was the day it wanted to throw a rod and crack the engine! Needless to say, I will refund her money. I felt horrible that ... Wed, 13 Apr 2011 20:04:46 EST Personal Victory in my Personal Worst http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4139507 I ran a Half Marathon today. Run The Bluegrass was an absolutely lovely event, running from the Kentucky Horse Park into the Fasig Tipton Farm, and then back to the Horse Park. If you watched any of the World Equestrian Events on television, then you’ve seen the beauty of the Horse Park. And today was a beautiful day to be there. It was very windy, and it always seemed we were running against the wind, regardless of which direction we were running. But the temps were steady around 50°, and it... Sun, 3 Apr 2011 19:40:40 EST Make Healthy Food Choices, and Move on Purpose http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4050367 I went to the doctor a week or so ago, and I had all the standard blood tests -- cholesterol, glucose, liver, kidney, vitamin D, thyroid, and anything else they could throw in there. The results came in the mail today...

Cholesterol is good. No glucose, liver, kidney problems. Thyroid is managed correctly. Vitamin D is the low end of good, but still good. My blood pressure was 109/73, and my heart rate ranged between 49-51 during an 8 hour period.

So what do I do to get ... Sat, 26 Feb 2011 21:52:17 EST You know what they say… http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4018903 … You never forget how to ride a bike. I’m living proof that “they” are wrong.

When I was a kid, I rode my bicycle everywhere I went. I rode to the movies, I rode to the store, I rode to school. I rode everywhere I wanted to go! Even into my early 20s, I rode my bicycle. Then I stopped. Somewhere around age 22, I stopped riding my bicycle. I still walked a lot of places, but I never rode a bike.

In August, 2000, my brother came to my house and asked me to go for a rid... Tue, 15 Feb 2011 08:03:44 EST Excuses… Oh, so many excuses… http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4012284 Today I ran a 5K race. I knew it would be a total suckfest as far as time goes, and it turned out I was right. So let me think of all the excuses I can give.

Excuse #1… I have rheumatoid arthritis, and last year my toes began to swell so much that my toe knuckles swelled on the bottom of my feet, giving me giant ping pong balls in my feet. My rheumatologist told me to cut back on my mileage. She’s a runner, so I listen to her advice.

Excuse #2… On Black Friday I sat outs... Sat, 12 Feb 2011 16:10:07 EST
